Clean Up Crew [Mission]

TRASH PATROL

DESCRIPTION: With so much plants and trees in Kusagakue along with other lovely imagery which makes the village find pride in its appearance, it’s a shame that people still insist on littering in the village and throwing trash all over the place. This is a problem in all villages, but Kusagakure has chosen to enlist shinobi to help pick up all of the trash around the village. Quite low-grade work, it’s not too hard and you even get a grabbing stick and a set of plastic gloves from the overseer of the mission to make sure that you don’t touch any of the more disgusting trash that can be found around the village. Do your best to pick up all you can!
OBJECTIVE: Clean up the village and remove any carelessly thrown trash you can find!
PAY: 500 Ryo and 100 EXP.

After a long day of missions the previous afternoon, Kasumi had managed to get a good night's rest and awoke refreshed and ready to tackle to two new missions that she had taken on. Her first job of the day was to pick up trash that other people had decided to throw on the ground. While she would have preferred tracking down some sort of criminal or beating up on some thugs, the lower ranked missions were just as important as the higher ranked ones. Or so her parents always told her.

Her assigned located was one of the large, expansive parks that the village boasted. It was a place of beauty and wonder where many people from around the village enjoyed having picnics and lazy afternoons. For some of the younger citizens, it was a place of nighttime fun -- sex, alcohol, drugs and all around partying. Naturally, they weren't the type to clean up after themselves, and so it fell to lower ranked ninja like Kasumi and other volunteers to do the cleaning of themess that they happily left behind.

Her overseer was a woman who went by the name of Sachiko. Her long red hair was reminiscent of Kasumi's, and if the young kunoichi didn't know better, she might think they were distantly related somehow. Sachiko seemed to pick up on the resemblance as well, and remained somewhat quiet for several seconds after Kasumi arrived, seemingly stunned. When the shock had withered, the woman's true demeanor revealed itself, unfortunately.

"Kasumi Sansei, right?" she asked. Kasumi nodded quietly, her blue orbs taking in all the trash that surrounded them. While she knew that there would be a lot -- otherwise it likely wouldn't qualify as a mission in the first place -- she hadn't expected as much as she saw. Wrappers of various junk foods and other types of items, cans and bottles of several different alcoholic beverages, and several fire pits full of burnt and soggy wood and coal, as well as uneaten and/or discarded food.

"Good, we've been expecting you. Some of the other volunteers are already here and have started cleaning up. There are gloves on the table over there, and there's a grabbing stick and plastic bag with your name on it underneath," she explained, marking something off on her clipboard. "Better get busy, don't wanna let all the non-ninja show you up, now do you?" she said sharply, as if her tongue was coated with venom. She left Kasumi to get to work, which the kunoichi was very eager to do.

The gloves slid over her hands like a second skin and guarded her nerves from the cold metal of the trash collecting stick. The plastic bag was large, black and smelled of some type of odor concealing scent. Her hair had been pulled back and tied up to keep it safe from the possibility of coming into contact with any of the trash that had been left by whoever had partied in the park the night before. Kasumi found it difficult to believe that they were able to get away with doing things like that when there were ninja and police all over. Perhaps there were just more important things to do.

However, what was more surprising to her was that the people of Kusagakure would actually treat the land in such a way. In her homeland of Mizu no Kuni she might have understood it, but Kusagakure was a place of natural beauty and pride in the color green. The fact that they would willing throw trash around and leave it there to possibly rot and ruin the environment and the peace for others made her sad, in a way. It made her more than happy to take on the "grunt work" of cleaning the park up.

She began immediately, going after the trash that was closest to her feet -- so close that she realized she must have almost stepped in it. The pointed end of her stick jabbed downward into the can and went through and through. She even managed to get a hold of the wrapper that was laying underneath the aluminum. Making sure to move the stick up carefully to avoid letting the trash loose from her stick, she placed it inside of the black bag she carried with her and edged the junk off of the point and into the trash bag.

There was so much trash that Kasumi resigned herself to the fact that she would be there for awhile. Even with the other volunteers committing to the work of cleaning up the trash, there was too much and it would likely spill over into a second day of work. Perhaps she'd return to help on the second day, even though her duty would be fulfilled after just the one. Until the commitment was over though, she decided to do as much of the work as she possibly could. That included laying her gloved hands on what she hoped wasn't half digested, regurgitated food, but instead something less unpleasant.

After several hours of working in the park picking up the litter and shoving it into trash bags, she had finally finished the job she had been assigned to. She had cleaned up a good section of the park and managed to fill ten trash bags completely. Though Sachiko was nowhere to be seen, she was sure that she was free to leave, as most of the other volunteers had already gone. Some of them had actually left just after she had arrived. One way or the other, she concluded that she was done with that particular mission, and so she moved on to carry out the next one.
