If NPC's can impact one's story in a significant way, then Random Encounters have the power to turn it around completely. The Naruto universe is full of potentially dangerous opponents and obstacles that are naturally difficult to surmount. Within this world, there exist situations where a player, normally carrying out a unique role-play session, is interrupted with a new slew of unique possibilities. Most writers should be familiar with the basic idea, which can be found in many roleplaying video games; the player character (PC) is pitted against a non-player character (NPC) for various spoils and rewards, allowing them to grow ever stronger.
Random Encounters are conducted by members of staff, and will always involve the use of specific NPC's. As a player seeking this type of encounter, you can either trigger an RE through you own role-play, or simply request one by staff. From that point the process is simple. The staff member will roll three dice, one to determine the difficulty level of the fight, one to determine the type of enemy, and the third to determine the amount of enemies. Depending on the outcome, the characters in your thread will then be challenged by the specified NPCs. Should you defeat them, the reward is yours! Be warned, however, that death of your character is entirely possible.
There are some restrictions in place to keep players from spamming RE's or using them to farm for rewards, since they can be a profitable source of income in all departments. A member can only be involved in one active Random Encounter at a time, and can only request one every seven days. If you are active in an RE, then you cannot request a new one until your current one is over.
Though rare, seeing them through to the end can be quite beneficial for the player. These encounters are not always of danger, and could lead to some form of discovery, or the trigger for a longer, more rewarding quest. For example, you could encounter a sickly person on the side of the road, during combat, which, upon being helped, will grant you with lots of money! (or a means of doing so). Just be prepared for anything. In the end, each encounter can offer the player a unique and different opportunity.
Each board will have a pinned thread describing the country/capital/village's overall setting, a brief description of the area, and then, a breakdown of all possible random encounters. From enemy combat to possible treasure localization, random encounters are one of the best ways to keep your muse always peaked. Best of all, you can obtain lots of things during these encounters, even by simply looting!
