Appearance: Toshiro, at first glance at least, appears to be everyone’s prime example of a teenager. Still looking as if there is plenty of room to grow while also showing signs of adulthood, he could very easily walk along the roads and amongst the villages as just another elder child if it weren’t for his green hair. Of course, all of this is sculpted to provide the appearance of someone memorable who could also fade into a crowd without any worry or trouble.
Beyond his green hair, the face of Toshiro is free of marks, blemishes and is carefully kept clean of all facial hair. His cheeks are somewhat narrow, giving him a semi-feminine visage for those who do not pay close attention. As determined as he is to remain unidentifiable, it comes as no surprise that he works to maintain this neutral appearance and keep his face unmarred by battle or stubble. The rest of his body is similarly bland, Toshiro preferring to keep his muscles lithe and defined without any real hint of strength training or allowing himself to fall out of shape. The real difference is that the pale smooth skin of his face stops around his collar bone and then begins the mess that is the skin of his body.
The body of the boy is a mess of scars and discolorations. Some are wounds taken in battle while others are marks of experimentation or training. Whatever the reason, the mess of painful marks and spaces of skin make him seem ever the monster to some whenever he is disrobed. Despite this, many would not guess such horrors existed on him. With a standard frame of roughly five feet and seven inches and a weight resting just north of one hundred and seventy pounds, he walks without limps and moves without any apparent aches or pains regardless of the damage done to his body.
Apparel: At this instance in the existence of the world, it is incredibly dangerous to consider one’s self to be a shinobi. Therefore, one can assume it exponentially stupid to go around openly displaying ninja gear and clothing. Toshiro has taken that thought to heart and fully conceals himself with a loose and flowing overcoat at all times that reaches down to his ankles. The coat is rather nondescript, being black with white edges on the bottom of it and around the cuffs of the coat sleeves. The collar is rather high, usually covering the bottom half of his face and helping further conceal him.
Beneath the coat is when the assassin comes into view, clothing that is just tight enough on Toshiro’s form to allow it the maximum amount of mobility that he desires during combat. A sleeveless black shirt lays overtop a layer of fishnetting that covers his torso and all the way down his arms, tactical black pants with plenty of pocket space and ample room to hang pouches from both his belt and thigh. His boots at first glance appear to be of a standard combat style but are actually lighter and designed more closely with classic shinobi sandals.
Blemishes or Scars: Doctors tend to gasp when they take a glance at the man beneath the clothing he wears. Toshiro can easily be considered one of the most monstrous looking individuals ever gazed upon. It seems every inch of his torso, arms, and legs are covered in some form of scarring or discoloration. There are, however, a few more noticeable markings that others would consider the ones that stick out the most.
The first one that everyone seems to mention when describing Toshiro is the large X carved into his left pectoral muscle. Despite whatever popular stories or myths that exist about this wound on the puppeteer, it did not arrive on him via combat. In actuality the wound was his first wound and a total accident when he was testing what pain truly felt like. Using his father’s kunai, Toshiro dug into his chest to experience what pain really felt like and when he felt that he had been too much of a coward to experience the fullest extent of pain he then proceeded to drag an intersecting cut deep into the muscle. He’s had the scar ever since he was eight years old.
The next big noticeable marring of his flesh is his left thigh. From knee all the way to his hip is a mottled gray color that seems almost necrotic at a glance. This was Toshiro’s first accident as a poison maker. The poison was half finished and while testing its lethality on a rodent, the rat bit him and he dropped the poison coated blade into his thigh. While the next few hours were horrific, he was lucky enough to have been infected by an incomplete concoction that left him permanently marked rather than dead. The skin is far from healthy looking, but the battle scars over it look solid enough to indicate that the area still heals itself as best as it can.
While he has a considerable number of smaller knicks, scrapes, and wounds on the rest of his body; these are the ones that definitely stick out the most. Add that to the fact that he rarely allows himself to be seen by anyone but medical personnel, and you have a man covered in scars that hides them as best he can. That includes going to great lengths to keep scars off of his hands or face.
[3] CognitionAlignment: Toshiro’s alignment is one of many complications, having developed into a very strict code of conduct for the boy as he has lived his life. While he shows great hesitance in attacking fellow shinobi or any who practice the arts of ninja, he seems to enjoy the torture and killing of samurai. He feels obligated to serve his community and work hard to protect the down trodden and those who have been taken advantage of, regardless of cost to himself. This leaves him somewhere along the lawfully evil side of the spectrum, showing incredibly potential for cruelty and misuse of his abilities for the strict vengeance he feels must pursue while paired with an incredibly in depth code of responsibility and honor that he adheres to religiously.
History:
Toshiro was born into the world while shinobi were still in power, the arts of the ninja being practiced in every major village and country. He was told stories of one day attending the academy, of one day becoming a true shinobi as his father was and taught the ability to defend and serve his village. The land of Mists were known for some of the fiercest and most talented shinobi throughout all of the lands and Toshiro looked forward to the day when he could join their ranks and become something more than just himself. That desire became even greater when his little brother was born, the driving need to be a shining example of what their family should stand for became a constant suggestion from his father and mother, to try his best in order to set a good example for the younger one. The world, at that point in time, was his oyster and the lands were relatively peaceful. Such a time meant lots of joy, excitement, and a total lack of stress.
With his father being a shinobi of the hidden mist, it is unsurprising that on his sixth birthday his mother let him know that he had the option of moving from his regularly taught classes and instead start attending the ninja academy. And not only that, but his father would be home in time for his birthday party later that evening. Such luck could only be struck down by the wrath of whatever divines could possibly exist. On that day was the chosen moment when the Samurai of the realm decided to strike back against the shinobi and leave so many dead. That day would be engraved in the memory of Toshiro and something he avoided talking about from that day onwards. The actions taken by the blades of a few would forever influence the world view and future of Toshiro as he sought to repay the samurai responsible for the destruction of his world tenfold.
Being the sons of shinobi, both Toshiro and his brother Kidimaro were taken in by the survivors of the assault and taken into hiding, fleeing the Samurai and their quest domination. Instead of living as refugees or dogs under the heel of their new Samurai overlords, Toshiro and his brother ended up underground (Most of the time quite literally) as shinobi skills were taught to them as best as possible. Unfortunately a lot of that training was only learned on the battlefield. Such a form of tutelage for the pair did not come without prices both mentally and physically. It was also during this time that Toshiro saw the worst in the cruelty of the Samurai and decided the only way to ensure the suffering stopped was to give the armor clad barbarians a taste of that very suffering they dished out.
After a long occupation that has lasted nearly a decade, both Toshiro and his brother came out the other end of their ordeals hardened. But the world had changed again, shinobi were rising up against their samurai masters and once again becoming a force to be reckoned with. Unwilling to be left behind by their brethren, the brothers figured it best to split up in order to better their chances of survival. While Kidimaru headed west to see what had become of the Land of Fire, Toshiro stayed upon the home front that he had come to know so well. Now he spends his days lurking, waiting for any opportunity to strike back at the regime that had made an example of his father and took Toshiro’s life away from him.
