Description: A curious glow enwrapped a house in Konohagakure. To worsen matters, horrid screams ring out from the house during the nights. We do not know the cause, nor what happens within. Investigate the matter.

A house stands deep in the slums of Konohagakure, eerie and looming. Little do the shinobi know of the horrors that occur within, revealed through the horrified screams that taint the nigh, yelps of utter terror and pain, a damning melody whose macabre tune crunched the guts. Each night these screams rang out for hours, coming to no end until the sweet sun rose, her majestic gleam a cessation to a fright no man is meant to see. Yet, it was the duty of a certain man to glance upon what, perhaps, was to shatter his mind forever – his duty as a shinobi of the Leaf.

From the house, an eerie glow shone into the surroundings streets. The light dimmed when the day came, but during the nights, it smoldered with a sense of foreboding – after all, the radiance simply seemed unfit – no house is simply meant to shine. The light combined bizarre frequencies to take on a hue that simply felt unsettling, an alien color that was quite unlike any the eye had ever seen. With but a glance, the slightest fear began to crawl into the senses, a primeval, ancient fear.

The house stood much higher than any other in the slums, at over ten meters. Shaped from oaken wood, it was surprisingly resilient during storms, in stark contrast to its ragged, derelict appearance. Various cracks spanned the walls, but should one look through; they simply see a deep darkness not even light can pierce. The windows have been boarded shut, not with wood, but with bone and skin, the wretched odor of carcass rising into the air.

What happened within? That was for the brave shinobi to investigate.

It felt weird to me that I would be called out to go on such skilled mission just after graduating the academy. As I stood in the office a scroll was handed to me by the receptionist. I unraveled it and began to read the mission requirements. To my golden optical shells it would seem it was a mission for spying. The objective would be for me to travel to this mysterious house, once there investigate what the sounds come from and return back with the initial report. I rolled it back up and proceeded to bow in hanks toward the receptionist.

" . . . . I will not fail . . . . t-the ho-hokage or my village. "

With those words I proceeded towards the door with haste and left with out slamming it to the best of my abilities. I began to move at the highest speed allotted to my skill level. As I proceeded towards the forested area marked down on the map. Within my haste I just thought about something intriguing. I remembered a section of the scroll which said something interesting.

" This mission has and appointed slot of two ninja filled. "

My mind stuck to that fact that there would be someone else with me. I was a bit afraid at that fact, would they be as prejudiced as the children I met in the academy. Would they fear me because of my "abnormal" appearance. The thoughts were quickly put aside once I had come upon the manor in question. The report was right in every aspect. I shivered the fear I felt was just from the vibe, I literally jumped backwards when I heard a scream. I wanted to know where my partner was and I hoped they came to my position fast.

Sayuri had already been to the office to pick up her scroll regarding that of her mission. Though the details were somewhat vague in what exactly they would be dealing with, the descriptions of what went on were chilling. Eyeing the scroll again from the safety of a tree within the woods close to the house, she narrowed her eyes at the line that said she would have a partner.

Perhaps I should have waited for my partner before rushing out here...oh well. I'm sure that whoever it is will be here soon.

As if on time with her thoughts, a bit of a ruckus below alerted her of someones arrival. The boy looked strange in appearance, but regardless she could tell he was another shinobi of the Leaf. A scream, most likely from the house filled the air and the boy jumped back, seemingly scared from it.

Great, they sent me someone new to the field.

The Kurama didn't have much room to talk however since she still didn't have much experience either. But regardless of that fact, at least she wasn't scared of her surroundings. Sayuri dropped from the trees above, making sure to land in front of her partner, and some distance away just to try and scare him less.

"I assume your my partner for this mission? Well, it's nice to meet you. My name is Sayuri. I do hope that you won't be scared the entire time. After all, we have a mission to complete."

The door of the house opened as if to welcome them. The two heard a whisper in their mind, the words compelling, yet frightening as they send a shiver through the spine. The voice was ambivalent, both furious yet kind, a bizarre, nonsensical dichotomy that further enforced the aura of this alien situation. The whispers were as follows.

You walk into a world you cannot bear to see. In terror you will plea. Reality unwrought, the taint of the world cleansed by the Hungerer’s touch.

A bright vision followed the words, seen clearly in both of their minds.


Naota

Truly, the vision playing out in his mind was utterly unsettling. His mother and father stood before him. Their belly tore open as slowly their guts dripped out, liquefied, screams of pain leaving their chapped lips. Naota’s mother spoke in this vision,”Please, please son..Why do you let me die? Why do you let me suffer. Oh gods, I do not want to die. You let me die.”The vision played out again and again for five minutes before everything returned to normal, the house awaiting his entrance broodingly.

Sayuri

In the vision, Sayuri’s father appeared, speaking in a quiet, hushed tone. ”My daughter…you have failed again and again. It took you so long to become a genin. The Kurama are disgusted with you. And the Gods have punished me for your failure.” Upon speaking, her father, slowly began to rot, his skin taking on a discolored hue as one limb after another fell off. For her, too, the vision played out for five minutes.


And without a trace, the vision disappeared. Still, the building awaited their entrance.

”Come, walketh into my home.” the voice whispered again in their head.

My body shook violently as I realized someone was approaching. They appeared before me in little to know time. In a reactionary response my hands were put into a defensive position. I was suspicious of everything that was before me before I saw the symbol of the leaf upon her person. It reflected even within the darkness the awarded by the forest tree's blocking out most of the sun. I calmed down a bit and my hands slowly fell to my sides, I was ashamed at my actions for the fact I was a ninja and should never lose track of my situation.

I found the kunoichi a bit rude by what she had said to me. I understood that I shouldn't be so scared but it still stung a bit. I chose to keep quiet as I hide most of my face behind my collar. With a few steps forward I chose to walk past her and try to get towards the house when i was stopped. My body felt weird as if something ominous was about to occur. And sadly I had wished my body was merely misinterpreting the situation, the problem was I was wrong.

A glow emanated from the house, I close my eyes trying not to be blinded but it appeared too late. I was caught within a vision of some sorts. I looked and there stood a woman and man, her stature was at the size of five feet and six inches my exact height. Her eyes were as golden and bright as mind. I realized it within only mere seconds that the woman before me was my beloved mother. And the man beside her I had never seen before within my life. It confused me why would they show me my mother and some random guy. I was cut off in my thought when she spoke forward to me.

”Please, please son..Why do you let me die? Why do you let me suffer. Oh gods, I do not want to die. You let me die.”

As he spoke I saw her body seemingly liquify and burst. the most horrid of images appeared before my very eyes. I ran forward screaming with all my might. My eyes leaked uncontrollably I could feel my nose flare a bit and expel a bit of sweat through it causing it to run as I approached the mysterious figures who were being disemboweled. The man to the side reached out with a skeleton finger as if trying to caress my face lovingly. It hit me like a ton of bricks that this man was as mysterious as I would have thought. His smile was the same as mine before they both disappeared.

" MOTHER!!!!!no....no.....why.....why!!!!!! "

A mysterious voice beckoned me into the house with it's inviting wisdom. The bastard who showed me these images had caused me to be angered beyond anything I had felt before. I actually wanted to break his neck for showing my mother before me and killing her again. If this was all my fault I wanted to fix it with everything I had. My legs began to move once more as I ran forward into the doorway. hopefully straight into the house.

Sayuri found her so called partner a tad rude as well. How could he simply walk passed her as if she were nothing? Perhaps he was mad that she had scared him? Regardless of the reason, it still irked her. But, they were on a mission, not a friendly get together and the mission was what was important.

She started to trail the boy, though briefly before stopping dead in her tracks. Why was her father here? With each word that he spoke, her heart felt like it was breaking. How could he say that? She was trying so hard and had made it further than most in their little forgotten clan in a long time. She didn't understand why now of all times he would say this.

"F-Father, please, I...I've been trying! Can't you see that? All I want to do is make you proud and---"

Her words stopped as her eyes widened in horror. The flesh of her father began to rot and fall off while his limbs began to fall as well. It was as though her entire body went numb now. It was a Genjutsu, an illusion. She may have been fooled at first, but not now, and not again. Even as it started replaying she realized that she couldn't quite get out of it until she was let out.

That's when she saw her partner running for the front door of the house, full speed. Whatever vision he had seen must have been bad enough to trigger such an action from such a skiddish boy. However, rushing into things never solved anything. It was a rash action that could potentially get the two of them killed.

"Wait! Don't go in alone and wait for me! We don't know quite what we're dealing with!"

Grumbling to herself, Sayuri hurried after the boy, only barely able to pull up the rear. He was faster than her, which wasn't surprising. Physical work wasn't entirely her strong point. Regardless, the Kurama followed him into the house, scowling.

"I said wait, or else you'll get trapped in another Genjutsu like we did outside!"

Inside the house, who knew what was awaiting them.

[Katsumaru]

Immediately upon stepping into the house, the world shifted. Colors flashed and morphed and the sounds from the streets blurred together, creating a bizarre, otherworldly scene as the two tasted the colors, their flavor reminiscent of rotten meat. An odor, too, entered their noses – one quite unlike anything they had ever smelt before. Yet, still the scent aroused nausea, curled up the stomachs. The fragrance simply felt unreal and eerie. Even with the nose held shut, the odor permeated, as strong as ever. And again the voice rang in their heads, tone a mixture of anger and a sickening, sadistic glee.

”Sweet, sweet children, the melody of the Whisperer will forever ring in your ears, be you alive or dead. So, plead, kneel before the Hungerer. Pray. Beg. And you will be releases.”

Then all turned black.

Motionless, the duo of Konohagakure nin awaited – and regardless of how hard they attempted to struggle, neither of them could move. As they sat in the darkness, a shrill, high-pitched whistle rang in their ear. Disturbingly, for an hour Naota and Sayuri could not move. Due to the sensor deprivation, time blurred together, the hour dragged out, time endless.

The light returned.

Before them stood a small room with three doors, each covered in finely written words. From left to right, these words read: Khatgh, Z’thalan, and Enzgul. The doors lacked handles. In their place were fingerless hands. Blood flowed from the walls, the crimson hued liquid dripping onto the grounds delicately.

I ran towards the building within a raging fury which was reawakened by the uchiha blood which coursed through my veins. I could feel a quick quake within my eyes as I could feel a burst of chakra hitting what seemed to be a seal within my eyes. I didn't understand the strange feeling but I made it into the door with no problem at all. As I walked in the kunoichi had followed me into the room as well screaming something from behind me which made no sense. I was in a rancid mood that was only changed by the rancid smell I sniffed, it was stronger then any trash I had ever had the unfortunate chance to smell. I had gotten dizzy and wanted to vomit as I closed my mouth and held my nose but the smell penetrated all of my defenses. That's when it hit me I wasn't smelling this stuff at all my brain was being sent this stuff other wise it would be impossible. Before I could even react I heard the same voice from before it sounded as if it was mocking us.

" Why, why do you even have to do this. . . . what will you gain from hurting us !!! "

There was no answer to my question as I could feel myself being dragged into a void of nothingness. It was as if I was being swallowed into the realm between life and death - limbo. I realized I was still conscious when I began to blink my eyes within this permanent looking darkness. I struggled but it wasn't like I was bound it felt as if I was paralyzed all along my body. I began to think why had I done that outburst why didn't I think before I leaped. I felt my anger was totally out of my character yet understandable within my predicament seeing my parents die multiple times. Wait parents, that person next to my mom I had never seen before in my life but he felt like he was the same as me. I wondered why that was but broke out of that thought and called out for the kunoichi.

" I'm sorry, I should have thought things out better. I'm not usually this impulsive something had just run over my emotions. I apologize thoroughly. "

As I finished apologizing something illuminated our area fully. I realized immediately that this room was unnatural in appearance as there was blood running down the walls. I looked at them frightened a little bit because this entire room was impressively scary. My mind rolled over to the fact I was still alive, if he really wanted to kill us he or she could have already. That meant one ting they were trying to send a message across to us and that we would need to go through there trials to understand it. I shivered a bit but knew I needed to get this over with already. My eyes seemed to flash a different tint for a split second which made me blink a few times. All the excitement was getting to me and probably bringing back my disease maybe for a second.

As soon as they had entered the house, everything had gone straight to hell. The colors of everything started to distort and warp the world around them. The flavor that followed made her want to vomit. It was like trash, rotten meat, mixed with the most wonderful taste of that nasty medicine that you take as a child.

Then the smell came to and was enough to disorient just about anyone. Even though she knew, deep down, that it was nothing more than some sort of Genjutsu she couldn't shake it. Her, someone from the Kurama clan, couldn't break free of a Genjutsu. Maybe that vision earlier held some truth.

The voice, the same one from that they had heard outside, bellowed out through the space around them. Maybe in their heads? Sayuri really couldn't tell. Her partner yelled at the voice, like that would help anything. She felt like telling him to shutup but as she went to move to grab him, she found herself frozen, paralyzed still.

And then everything went dark, faded away into the endless depths of a void.

What's this? This is an incredibly advanced, multi-layered Genjutsu. Who the hell could even pull something like this off...?

Sayuri blinked, then cringed as the deafening scream took over, drowning out everything around them. Even as the other shinobi started to say something to her, all she could do was pick a few words from it, just barely able to read his lips. Something about being sorry and that he usually doesn't get like this.

How refreshing. Too bad they were already caught in this trap.

Almost as suddenly as the onslaught of the visions had come, they all went abruptly as a light pierced through it and allowed them to move once more. Blood rolled down the walls and before them were three doors. Either it was trying to get them to split up, or doom them down whatever door they took.

"Stay strong. I don't know your name yet by the way. I'm Sayuri." The Genjutsu user flashed a brief smile, figuring that perhaps if they knew each other on a slightly more personal level it would make them try harder.

"Obviously we need to pick a door. Under different circumstances I would say for us to split up, but...." Sayuri reached a hand out to grip at the odd shaped doorknob to the door labeled, 'Z'thalan' and began to open it. "I think it'd be best if we stick together, hm?"

As long as we both don't die that is...

[Katsumaru]

A lengthy hallway lead ahead , the path crooked and misshapen. It seemed as if an intoxicated worker constructed the hall, for the walls were crooked and the ground arced both up and down. The walls were covered in skin, wood behind rotten and worn by the ages. A green hue emanated from the other side of the hallway, a color which, bizarrely through some means, pulsed as if it were alive. As if it watched. The hall was rather wide, at twenty meters.

With each step through the hall, the ground rumbled, shook slightly, as if it suffered through the greatest pain. The rumbling came in combination with a howl – originating from a curious source, for the pitch was ambivalent, both high and low, an unnatural combination of tones. The hall suffered the very woods that constructed this structure suffered. The building was alive. And that it would make known as the walls closed in, attempting to crush any caught between.

I looked at her as she began to talk, I found out her name was Sayuri. The smile she gave me was something I couldn't tell, it looked real but it could be fake as well. I didn't exactly feel like saying my name back towards her for some reason. I don't know but I'll call it a hunch from the expression she made before she didn't like me. She rose and walked towards the door marked "Z'thalan", after I just made a rash decision she decided to do the same. There could have been a trap associated to the doors but she opened it anyway.

I rose quickly getting back in a defensive stance as a wails and groans of pain pierced my ears. the high pitched screams scared me senseless. Yet when I looked my legs had already brought me directly into the room. I could feel a dark aura within the room as if our luck had just gotten worse. I stepped once more and heard a screech of pain, the floor looked like it was skin, the same could be said for the walls. It was like we were within the stomach of something sinister and evil. I mental said sorry for every scream of pain which was awoken with my steps. I looked forward and something blindsided me a glow, it was green in color and pulsed within the air from the other end of the room. I tried to speak once again trying to recover from my fright but that's when I truly realized the walls were moving.

"Something is wrong! Come on lets go! "

I attempted to grasp at her left hand and pull her with me as I raced toward the green light. The walls would no doubt crush us if we didn't get out of here since the alternative was going back towards the other room and never escaping. Or maybe walking into a deadly trap, but then again the green light could be a trap. I didn't know but I wanted to figure this out and I wasn't gonna back down because the hokage wouldn't back down in this situation. The hokage would just burst through and figure out the situation for themselves.

Sayuri stared straight ahead, eyes entranced by the pulsing green glow that was coming from the end of the hallway. Whatever was down there was either a trap or exactly what they were looking for. It was hard to tell considering there were still two other halls that they hadn't chosen to go down. But, it was better this way.

If they were to split up, they would die.

However, the hallway wasn't everything that it seemed. The whole place groaned and wailed in pain as if each step they took only made it worse. That's when it was made painfully clear that the hallway was like the inside of a living being. The walls and floor were like skin and flesh.

That's when, as they walked, the walls came to life and began to close in on them. Sayuri almost froze in place, not expecting that at all as Naota, whom never actually gave his name, grabbed her arm and ran forward. She ran of course, but ripped her arm from the boy's grasp.

"Stay sharp, and keep both hands free in case you need to defend yourself!"

All they could do now was run forward to the green light as fast as they could. As much as she would have liked to pull something to halt the incoming walls, the only thing she could think of was either a Raiton or Katon release jutsu. And unfortunately, she didn't quite know what Naota was capable of, but....it didn't hurt to ask.

"If you have Raiton or Katon, use it on the walls! If this hall is truly alive, the pain from those type of elements against the raw flesh should make the walls halt!"

It could, perhaps, be their only shot of getting out of the hallway in time.

Suddenly the wall stopped.

Again everything fell silent.

But this silence was different.

Even though not a single sound seemed to rise into the air, their senses registered something faint. It was both like a ring and a howl, a bizarre combination of sounds that seemed quite unfitting, creating a debilitating, alien pitch. The sound was utterly disgusting – simply something about it that seemed as if it was not of this world. It was a melody, yet also a shrill howl. The resonance filled the mind with a compulsion to vomit. Not from nausea, but simply because the horrid melody seemed so absurd, so sweet yet at the same time, utterly terrifying.

Their run was successful. As the two approached the green light, the duo would once more feel as if they were being watched. The same voice as before rang in the ears.

”You walk close to a terror you cannot bear. Turn, or kneel and pray. Else, your will regret your every step, your every breath.”

Should they dare step through the door, a small room awaited. Ten by ten meters. That within – it was simply wretched.

It was something human eyes were not meant to see.

That, truly it was not.

A beast, nay, a thing quivered in the center of the room. It was a sphere with limbs extending from its bizarre figure. Arms and legs extended from the body, trembling, as if attempting to tear free. The desperate attempt of the various limbs failed utterly as they simply shook. Tumors grew from the sphere, a compelling color – a bright combination of red and blue from which the gaze was difficult to avert. The tumors, too, quivered.

Faces covered the wall. Faces carved from the head. Eyes have been placed within them, all twenty of them turning to meet the two brave Konohagakure shinobi. Blood flowed from these faces, a constant stream pouring onto the grounds. But this blood was not red. It was blue. The cerulean liquid dripped, slithering along the grounds to a pedestal in the center. A book stood upon the pedestal, glowing with a green light.

The books cover was delicately carved from bone. Judging from their strength and texture, the bones belonged to children. Each page was fashioned not from parchment, but from soft, infant skin. A truly wicked mind was at work here. But the culprit was nowhere to be seen. The book waited to be opened.

I ran with her, the suggestion I could hear was to use a sort of element to stop the advance of the walls. The pain I could hear just from my steps would no doubt be tripled. I couldn't bare to cause anymore pain at all, I just continued to run towards the pulsing green light which was now getting closer. It took three more steps and we were now within the room the light was emanating from. My eyes, widened in disbelief, we had just walked into the inferno from what I could see. It was like we had died and were punished to the underworld, I couldn't take the sights before me and felt a gurgle within my stomach. I bent over and emptied the contents of my stomach onto the somewhat living floor.

" No, is . . . is this the end of use. . . did we die. . . "

The horror before me threatened to bleed my eyes of there contents, tears dripped steadily, I was scared out of my mind. I didn't know what to do since this was my first mission, my chance to prove myself was lost within my mind. I brought my hands to my face trying to cover up my disheveled appearance. I shouldn't have been this scared but I didn't know what else to do at all, the fear was too much for my body.

The end of the hall where the green light had been emanating from was no better than the hallway itself. The moment that they entered the room, Sayuri's eyes narrowed while all mental processes battled her natural instinct to vomit at the site of the massive green blob. Were those limbs coming out of it? What was worse was the walls, covered in the faces of unnamed humans.

They were bleeding. Everywhere. And she felt as though she were too.

However she shook her head and inhaled sharply as if to gather herself once more. Quickly she grabbed a kunai from her pouch while eyeing the strange monster in the middle. Its red and blue bulbous form was disgusting, but they had already come so far.

"Are you kidding me...?" She murmured, glancing quickly to her partner before back to the monster while backing slowly towards the book. "Man up, otherwise you will die."

Sayuri, now close to the book made of bone and what could only be assumed to be infant skin. If she had to think of something, then the person who started this all was into some kind of dark magic or a form of voodoo. This, most likely, was their book of shadows. Without this, they would be almost defenseless.

Alright, it's now or never I suppose...

The Genjutsu user eyed the book some more before reaching out to gingerly open to the first page so that her eyes could quickly scan the contents. Regardless of what was inside, her plan was to snatch the book up and make a run for it, back out of the house.

...If that was even possible...
