Jounin Selection, the Tower of Trials.

The Tower of Trials is one of the largest structures in all of Mizu no Kuni. Situated several miles outside of Kirigakure, this tower is built around one of the oldest trees in existence and stands at roughly one hundred meters tall. Inside, the tower is separated into three levels.

Each of the three levels is thirty-three meters from the floor to ceiling, respectively, and twenty meters in diameter. The tree that the tower was built around punches through the center of each floor, with the top floor boasting the most serious "damage." A large hole, extending beyond the tree's trunk, lies in the center of the room (this whole is roughly three meters around the tree). This tree is unique in the sense that, spare for the top, it has no branches.

The walls of the tower are made with standard materials used in construction, but reinforced by five feet of concrete (this is true for every wall). The tower's infrastrucure is remarkably stable, despite most of the materials appearing molded and or weathered. The floorboards creek with each step, and random vegetation (spurred from the tree) is scattered about the tower's interior. This includes small shrubby and turfs of grass, but nothing truly useful.

There are no windows, but the tower is lit rather substantially by some unknown means (presumably a jutsu).

This will be a free for all event, and will continue until there is only one clear victor. All four of you shall enter the tower at the top floor, forming a "square" inside of the circle. You may not enter with any jutsu prepped, nor attack or prep a jutsu in your introductory post. Likewise, all summons are banned from use. You are, however, allowed to use any and all items listed in your profile.

This thread will have a strict 48 hour IIC. While I understand that real life situations do come up, 48 hours is more than enough time for you to feasibly post. Players will be allowed one extension of 24 hours throughout the course of this event. After that, they won't be given another, no matter the situation.

If a player fails to post while not in immediate danger, they will be disqualified and removed from the event. However, if they're in the line of fire they will be forced to take the hit (which will count as a critical) and suffer whatever that means for their character, along with being disqualified.

Despite this event not being fatal-specific (as in you do not have to kill your target to defeat them), this is a death enabled thread. Being a Jounin Exam, I expect the lot of you to take care of yourselves; I won't be intervening with any NPCs if you get yourself into a tight fix. With that being said, however, I don't expect to see all of you purposely trying to kill each other; we're all part of the same village.

Everything is cold. The visible breath caught like a cloud of insects in amber, my sugegasa and clothing and hair and the host of smaller blades clanking together in my satchel; it all carries the same chill as the mist. The afternoon sun collides with a hanging mess of leaf that shreds it into a subtle sparkle of bent rays, but the sky has been dark all day and where I walk I leave shadows of moisture on the highest wooden platform I can climb. Along the krakken's jaw of old buildings shaping the path towards the oddly configured tower as if they are stone teeth, it is not always easy to remember that I am still in Kirigakure. There is a sense of savagery marking every physical feature of the village with some inherent cruelty.

It is still wild here. Every act of honor occurs in a shell of architecture stained by corruption.

There are others both gathering in attendance, and a part of these 'selections'; walking or running in raucous groups or shifting alone over rooftops for a better view. The platform where I stand is wide enough that three others find easy purchase beneath the dense treetop green that hangs over each wooden plank. They resemble long sad arms reaching to hold us in place, but we are truly rooted down only by the thick husk of a tree that seems to extend in each direction forever. I cannot clearly see the others well enough to identify them, not yet, but I know who to expect even before my gaze travels towards them. I ensure that I am far enough away^{10 Meters} that clearly picking out their movements is not difficult, I separate myself instantly, try my best to become merely another feature of our environment.

My hands cannot be seen; the sleeves of the long armored robe I wear are empty, and within its bulk, I move slowly to dig through the items in my satchel, noting Nuibari chained simply to my side. The summoning seal on my right palm can be used to call the larger blades I have become known for, but for now, I appear unarmed, calmly scanning the Tower of Trials and gaining my bearings.

Good fortune to us all.

I say the words more to myself than to those gathered, and it would take effort at this distance for any of them to hear me. My hands slowly move to unbutton a small opening, just big enough for my hands to move in and out of concealment deftly if necessary. My heels tense against the floor, a grinding motion prepared to pivot, contracting the muscles of my calves and forearms even while rolling my neck to pop my shoulders lightly, my fingers able to stretch and extend partially without being seen beneath the cloak. I am anxious, full of anticipation. I feel the pressure of eyes I cannot see watching me even beneath the heavy brim of my conical hat, and I grit my teeth, trying to find peace in the building tension.

I’d say to myself as I took my last pull off my joint filled with Royal Kush, I needed to relax I could feel every cell in my body burning up. The thought of participating in this competition was thrilling It was my chance to display how much I have learned, what I’ve trained for over the past couple of years. Even though I was in the ANBU it wasn’t enough to be known around the village, as I entered what seemed like a rather large forest inside of Kirigakure I hadn’t had the pleasure of exploring this lands before now. I was nearing my destination I could see the gigantic tree house sitting up there on the tree; I would enter while quickly being directed to the top floor.

“Smooth and easy, just like your girl she freaky.”

I’d say to myself as I walked into the room it was fairly lit, My face would be hidden behind my ANBU issued mask. My mind was on another level right now, I knew that if I could put on right now it’d be too easy for my rap career to take off. I’d be known for not only impressive ability to put together verses of the top of the dome, it was time for people to know about the Storm within me. As I arrived to my designated starting spot, My hand would make its way into my satchel as I stood rocking my head as if I was listening to some type of music.

“Time to play garbage man, so I can come on top man, don’t wanna fill any coffins, but I’m gonna leave you kids coughing.”

Words I’d mutter myself as my hands sifted through all of my items.

The Jounin Selection. Her path to this moment had been unorthodox and spanned two villages on opposite sides of the continent. In spite of this, she had risen to the limit of what her current title allowed her to accomplish. She had lead a team, run a lab, and completed a slew of missions. These privileges, however, were not enough. The red tape of military politics prevented her from achieving all she could.

Jounin were not only leaders among their village, but sent on the most dangerous assignments and were privy to the most deeply guarded secrets of the village. It was the beginning step to all that she wanted to accomplish, and nobody would stand in her way on the path to greatness.

The red haired kunoichi had found herself at the top of a tower supported by an ancient tree. Though it consisted of 3 levels, this particular level's wooden floor was in considerable disrepair, leaving a large opening at least 2 meters wide around the tree that held it up. Thick concrete walls kept them trapped in this strange arena. She just hoped that she was the one to walk out victorious.

Hotaru's scarlet hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and her bangs were restrained with the symbol of kirigakure. Staying true to her style, her outfit was something not normally seen on a battlefield and even polite society deemed it 'inappropriate.' A cotton, black jacket covered her shoulders, however, the front was left open, displaying her signature red tattoo and matching bikini top. Black denim micro-shorts covered a few inches of her thighs, and a bright red leather belt held her item pouch to her left hip. Traditional tabi style shoes guarded her feet, though they were dyed black to match the rest of her outfit. Despite wanting to look her best, this was too serious an occasion for her to risk being hindered by a wardrobe malfunction.

Violet eyes scanned her surroundings, searching for the other competitors. to her left, a robed figure hid himself under a conical, woven hat. He did his best to disguise his identity, but Hotaru locked onto one tell tale feature.

I'd know that hair anywhere. Guess we'll be fighting each other, huh Akuharu?

To her right, a dark skinned boy with white hair stood, talking to himself as he waited for the signal to begin. There was also a 4th competitor, but Hotaru couldn't get a visual since the tree blocked her from seeing the starting place across the tower.

In preparation for their fight, a strand of bright red cloth was looped several times around her knuckles and around her thumb. The excess few inches of wrap hung lazily from her wrists.

Silence.

It was the goal I aimed to achieve as I stood amongst my peerage here; the lucky chuunin who had chosen to compete for that most illustrious and challenging position amongst the ninja ranks. We were but four in number, although a look to my left showed a familiar face; Or rather, a rather familiar shock of white hair, hidden behind a porcelain mask.

'Oshe...'

So he WAS here. Of course, that was not unexpected. The man who I had once briefly called leader was now beside me, to be locked in friendly combat with myself and two others. I smiled a bit, my lips tense with anticipation, lifted from the weight of their usual make-up. I had been provided a chance perhaps, to prove to the Mizukage that I was the rightful choice to lead our team from the get-go.

Then again, I doubted anyone in the room would recognize me now. My hair was tied back firmly in a bun, and I had taken a page out of Draco's book, foregoing my familiar lacy get-up for something far more functional. A black cotton full-sleeved half jacket was worn over a pale green tee that cut off above my midriff, and black leather pants acted almost like a second skin, held tight to my waist by a stylish belt that bore my hitai as a buckle. My various satchels and accessory pouches dotted the outfit, allowing me access to that which I would no doubt be using though-out the course of this battle, but even so, I still felt light and unhindered. Not that it mattered much, though, as the floor beneath me was quite old. So old in fact that it creaked with every step and shift of weight we made.

It was this, more then anything, which had coaxed me into uneasy silence; a routine I would continue as others took their place. Words were spoken to my right, and I heard them; barely more then a whisper was a greeting and a wish of luck upon us all. I was thankful for that, as the slow creaks of floorboards and mumbling took up the air again. I tried to filter out noises that rose from the burgeoning lack of noise aside from my own breathing and the pounding of my heart; the latter of which seemed to pound steadily against my ear-drums, reminding me of what was at stake...

I stood as a sentinel; muscles tense, mouth dry, and mind buzzing as I listened intently for the sound that would signal the start of this grand battle. However, even I could not yet say what would come of it, and I would be lying to say that I wasn't at least slightly afraid of what would come... After all...

The activation of both Dojutsu occurs as my head leans down marginally, obscuring the sight of my face completely from the other participants with the brim of my hat. It brings forth a burst of light that expands the complete distance around me, and brings with it vision that allows me to see into and through the entirety of the arena, as well as the other participants clearly for the first time.

Hotaru.

For an instant, the Byakugan doesn't see through her. My vision seems to focus against my control, showing her as I have always seen her, as if she is the only real person in the room. I blink, and the strangeness dissipates, and I cannot spare time to think about it as my hands have already moved beneath my cloak, unseen by the others, to form several handseals. There is nothing for the others to react to, not yet, as I hold the final seal, and calculate the next three angles of attack.

But my body is primed for movement, and I lift my head easily allowing both eyes to take in the steady stream of information relayed to me by every function of my temporary opponents bodies, my hands capable of darting out of and even discarding my robe if I should so choose. I await their own actions, and though I have technically begun the first stage of my assault without their knowledge, I will not be seen to consciously make the first move; if there is something to counter, some attack they attempt to disrupt me in any way, I will see it coming before they actually move to complete it, and respond accordingly.

Ambitious thoughts flooded my head as I stood there waiting for the signal to go to be giving, my heart was pounding as if it was about to burst out of my chest. But it wasn’t fear that had my blood pumping it was the thought of battle; it was my first chose of action. I had so many options but there was only one that stood out to me, the one that required me ¬¬trust someone that I had the pleasure to call Student. I hadn’t known much about her nor did she know much about me, but the reality of the situation was that we could use each other as pillar to our very own success. Which is why my eyes fell upon the scarlet haired woman, covered by my mask a smirk would cross my face.

“Buzz.”

As the signal was giving to start a noise erupted in my head, my body would act accordingly as I would grip a small sphere in my hand. My eyes hand been set on the girl that had the long scarlet hair, so as my hand pulled from my satchel I would throw the sphere towards her^Hotaru. As the sphere floated through the air I’d leap back attempting to separate myself while forming one seal, the winds would begin to condense itself in my hand. A manifestation of a storm had taken place; a whip formed of pure Ranton chakra if everything went as planned I would send the whip towards the scarlet haired girl attempting to coil her entire body. I would keep my ears open as I sent my whip forward attempting to track the girls movements.

Tier 1 - Punctual Winds: With the speed of lightning and fluidity of water at their command, ranton masters have learned to perform their techniques with greater finesse than your average shinobi. Because of this, the seal count required for all ranton based jutsu are reduced by two (with the absolute lowest being one).

Tier 2 - Plasma Extension: The majority of the ranton user's power comes from the piercing ability of their jutsu. Plasma, being extremely hot, can eat through nearly any substance when applied over extended periods. Rather than wait, however, ranton users have learned to compress and focus their creations to increase the piercing power of all techniques. As soon as the 4 competitors had filed into the top level of the tower, the fighting would begin. Immediately, the white haired man to her right plunged his hand into the pack at his side and turned to lock onto her position. Rearing back, he tossed a small paper ball towards her which was pretty easily identified as a 'hikari' bomb. As soon as the projectile was thrown, he formed a single handseal and produced a tendril of bright blue light in his hand.

Instead of panicking or running from the impending attack, Hotaru simply smirked.

Looks like this one isn't playing around.

She mused playfully as she mounted her extremely simple defense. Standing in place, a low amount of chakra in her left foot, she raised her leg into the air and winked at her attacker.

"Byeeee."

Hotaru stomped her foot onto the the floorboards, pulverizing a 2 meter diameter section of the wooden planks. With nothing to support her, a flurry of scarlet hair would be the last thing anyone on level 3 would see of her as she fell to the level below. Both the light bomb and the storm whip would be nowhere near close enough to affect her, and neither would be long enough to chase her on her rapid descent.

Landing on level 2 in a crouched position directly below where she began, she stood and moved about 5 meters closer to Akuharu (moving to about 4:30 from 3'oclock if the circular tower were a clock) so she could catch a view of anybody following her down. Her left hand reached into her pack and wrapped a few (3) exploding tag around an equal amount of shuriken and kept her eyes peeled on the level above, waiting for someone to attempt to drop down to her floor.

A rustle to my left was my first warning that the festivities, such as they were, had begun. Oshe, or at least what I had suspected to be him, had begun moving, and as such I would not hesitate to react. Of course, his attention was drawn by someone else, the mysterious fourth competitor who I had not yet seen, which offered me an ample opportunity to attempt to strike. The only lingering question was whether or not I should do so.

To be fair, I had no benchmarks to judge the strength of my other two competitors, and that scared me a bit. I was fighting two total unknowns to me, and had little opportunity to gather what role they could play in this coming fight. It bothered me quite a great deal to miss out on the opportunity he handed me, but I had decided that now, Oshe was not the biggest threat in the room to me, and it would be pointless to capitalize on what could be a potential ally against opponents who might wind up being much stronger than he or I.

Regardless, as soon as I saw him moving, I took off, cutting in towards the tree and moving from 9:00 to approximately 10:30, some five or six meters left, and about eight forward from my former location. As I did so my hands slipped into my pockets and withdrew a familiar round container. Popping the cork, I would spill it's contents on my chosen canvas before dropping the spent bottle, then begin forming a number of handseals.^{1 2} I would then, having finished my jutsus, slip through the hole in the ground which surrounded the tree, letting one hand grasp at the edge of the wooden floor and use my momentum to swing me up around, as a layer of chakra coated my feet³, anchoring me to the ceiling when they made contact.

Of course, as I did so, I noticed the loud crashing noise, and the thump of a body hitting the floor of the second level below. Either someone was already down, or I wasn't the only one who had no plans to stick around and fight it out. That said, I could see no one, so I had to assume they were on the move or elsewise cloaked, but the creak of floorboards below me informed me that someone was indeed walking, to the right of where I believed I heard the noises. In which case, I could only assume that the competitor who had been hidden from me had sought refuge from the fighting down here as well. A hand began rifling through my pockets again for a friendly object, and I found it rather quickly, smiling.

The next part of my plan was set to begin. I had to trust that my subterfuge would be successful as I started to work on it.

Description: Kinobori no Waza, the art of tree climbing serves a dual purpose. Taking part in Kinobori Shugyou (Tree Climbing Training) helps a ninja learn how to focus their chakra. It also teaches the ninja how to run up trees and walk on vertical walls. The training helps the ninja learn how to focus just the right amount of chakra to a particular part of their body. The amount needed to climb is small but it must be precise. The feet are regarded as the hardest location to master chakra focusing. So by gaining the art of this skill, the ninja will have any jutsu available (theoretically) because they will be able to focus their chakra as needed.

^{''Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.''}

My eyes, capable of penetrating into and through the entirety of our ‘battleground’ as it were, offer me somewhat of an unfair advantage. My ability to track and accurately predict every single movement that my opponents made, who’d completely ignored me thus far, allow my next actions to flow so smoothly I am at first wary that my initial plan has worked so well. In the moment that the only other male^Bit removes his hand from his pack to toss the Hikari, and the oddly dressed girl^Shinryu begins her mad dash towards the tree composing the area of the inner platform, the handseals I’ve already formed shape a sphere of water, from back to front, collecting into completion (beginning from beneath myself) before flooding around my two competitors. Hotaru’s own motions are quick enough to spare her the being caught as well, but her constant tactic of running from danger as opposed to facing it head on can only serve her continued survival for so long, and I know this.

Biting my lip to release the tiniest trickle of blood as flooding chakra forms a complete sphere of water around the two remaining combatants on the platform, its transparent surface can stretch wide enough, given my dominion over Suiton, to ensure that the light bomb never detonated by my opponent is also caught within the convergence of sky and water. As I have used my superior vision to track their scrambling from nearly the exact moment the Exams began, ensuring that the two are within close enough range^{Less Than 5 Meters} of each other, despite the males ‘leap’ backwards, is almost as easy as what comes near instantly after. By the time they, with their attention so focused on everything BUT me, could even notice the globe of Suiton closing around them, it will already be too late.

The skill that is my own namesake, taking its cue from the blood flowing freely from my lip, colors the water itself a deep crimson red, and with the advanced water prison having completely surrounded their position, this subtle, but poignant, manipulation ensures one thing above all others; my victims will NOT be able to see ‘through’ it, even though I can. As the prison itself prevents my nearest opponents from performing handseals, and restricts their every movement with the pressures of the sea itself, it takes little effort for me to withdraw Nuibari as I move swiftly towards the edge of the platform where they are trapped, and in what to them must seem like a single movement (as it will occur from their perspective without any conceivable forewarning) I use the legendary blade to pierce through the lower windpipe of first one^Bit, then the other^Shinryu shinobi, circling around them quickly, eyes watching and capable of allowing me to adjust to every nuance of their positioning. The blade, though quite literally capable of piercing through anything, will not deliver fatal blows in and of themselves, but it will guarantee that if they wish to live, they will both require immediate and extensive medical treatment, and will effectively remove them both from the fight.

Hotaru’s movements, however, do not escape me either. My vision was absolute, all encompassing. As she moves to just beneath where I’ve just stood, I can easily pick out the fidgeting of smaller weapons suggesting she has some trick in mind, and the exploding tags³ wrapped about the bladed projectiles cause a slight conceited smirk to mar my features. She is clever. Efficient. Absolutely beautiful....

Only allowing the prison of blood to dissipate once I am sure my defeated opponents can no longer continue their battling, My hands reach into and out of my concealed satchel to lob a selection² of smoke grenades into the same hole my partner has just created to escape our predicament, pulling their twin pins the instant they leave my hands. They will careen down, spilling thick black plumes as they fall, and come to rest against the same platform Hotaru has landed on from her fall, but their purpose is two-fold, even as the smoke billows out and my feet take up a coating of chakra that adheres to the bare edge of the old wooden platform, letting me skim its outer edge with a succession of steps that take me around the Tower of Trials itself. I will come to a halt when I’ve rounded the enormous tree at its center, and can descend its impressive length out of Hotaru’s sight, my hands running through a brief series of seals in the process.

I am ready for anything. Patient and waiting. Hunting her.

If target is running across a surface of water, the prison moves twice as fast. Same effects as 'Water Prison' apply.
Description: Suitenhoufutsu is a suiton ninjutsu technique which causes water to rise from the ground and surround the target, like Water Prison, yet without requiring the user to keep it steady by keeping hand contact. After the user does a string of hand seals, they summon the water, and can then use this water to drown his target, keep them imprisoned, or even torture.

Special: Can only utilize blood from a fresh wound. This skill does not effect the power or capability of the water techniques used in conjunction with it. Can make the user easier to track by opponents with enhanced senses, as the users own blood is present. Drains a negligible amount of chakra from the user every day [equivalent to x1 Mid] for the rest of their life, once learned. The rank of the technique is an indication of the difficulty of learning it, not of its power.
Description: Mixing a small amount of their own blood into water either naturally present, or created by their Suiton Ryuuken, manipulations of water, and the user's water-based jutsu will take on a blood red coloration that lasts for the remainder of the thread within which this skill was used. Furthermore, any technique which utilizes the Tier 2 Suiton mastery to cast "A" Rank and lower suiton jutsu without a water source, is created to instantly match this same distinct look, and can seem to pull from the initial point of the wound or the user themselves by simply converting moisture in the air near the users skin into a thick crimson liquid. Though it is still water, the amount of skill and control necessary to learn and perform this technique make it almost indistinguishable from the users real blood, utilizing its trace amounts of chakra in conjunction with the natural 'flowing nature' of the element.

Description: Kinobori no Waza, the art of tree climbing serves a dual purpose. Taking part in Kinobori Shugyou (Tree Climbing Training) helps a ninja learn how to focus their chakra. It also teaches the ninja how to run up trees and walk on vertical walls. The training helps the ninja learn how to focus just the right amount of chakra to a particular part of their body. The amount needed to climb is small but it must be precise. The feet are regarded as the hardest location to master chakra focusing. So by gaining the art of this skill, the ninja will have any jutsu available (theoretically) because they will be able to focus their chakra as needed.

“Poof there she goes, she was on her toes..”

I’d mutter to myself as my whip had fully manifested itself, even though the girl^Hotaru had managed to slip away I had thrown it before she had fallen through to the ground. But when it hit the ground there was no explosion of light, there was only a splash of water. This of course would be odd to me; after the girl dropped through the floor I would stop moving back and begin to move towards the hole the scarlet haired beauty had placed in the ground. But before I had even reached the hold I could hear the sound of water pouring off the platform through the center where the tree passed through mainly, I’d stop about 5 meters as the dim light would allow me to see the water pouring down into the hole the girl had placed there. A smile would cross my face underneath my mask as I’d quickly lash the whip towards the flowing water, as my whip hit the water I’d release a potent electrical surge through the whip that I would expect would surge through the water.

“Poof.”

I’d say as the entire room would be lit up by surge of electricity that would rip through the waters, this wasn’t the normal way I’d use this technique but adapting was a part of being a ninja. So as the shock quickly ripped through the waters I would expect to shock everyone that had been standing it, I would fill slightly bad but if Li had gotten caught in my jutsu but it couldn’t be avoided. But I wouldn’t let them thoughts linger around to much as I had a battle to fight in front of me, so quickly after I had sent the surge of electricity in to the water I would disperse the whip before quickly jumping into some hand seals. Once the seals were done the water that had been flowing on the ground would quickly shoot up from the ground whipping it’s self into a perfect form.

“Poof.”

I’d say once that was done my hands would quickly pull together forming perfect seals, I would then push on towards the hole that the girl had left in the ground. Sounds of water splashing and the floor creaking would be sounding as I moved I quickly moved towards the 1:00 section of the platform. My ears would be open as well as would be focused as they could possibly be under the influence, though the lights were dim it was enough light for me to see.

Raikoukei (Storm Whip)

Special: At b-rank, this technique can only cause temporary (one post) paralysis of the limb it comes in contact with (even if wrapped around the limb). At a-rank, however, the user can induce a fully body paralysis for a maximum of one post, plus one more for each time retrained up to a maximum of three. It should be noted that if should either rank come in contact with the victim’s head, they will automatically be paralyzed for two full posts.
Description: Forming the necessary hand seals and utilizing their unique Kekkai Genkai the user form a mass of swirling winds, condensing them into the form of a whip. Within this whip lies a small vein of electrically charged water, that, at the user command, can send a powerful electric surge into any caught by the whips touch.

Despite the efforts of a few of the contestants, it was very unlikely that anyone would be able to follow her to the second level of the tower thanks to their own infighting. It was much more probable that they were fighting among themselves, leaving her in the clear for the time being. Assuming that was the case, Hotaru tucked the prepared shuirken back into her pouch with her eyes glued to the floor above for any sign of a pursuer.

Using her time unopposed to her advantage and since it would take a considerable amount of effort to come after her specifically after her strategic exit from the starting point, she thought it best to take this opportunity to formulate a plan and put some more distance between herself and her competition. If there was no sign of someone following, she would quickly run forward and drop down to the ground floor through a narrow hole near the trunk of the colossal tree.

Landing with a stylish yet impact reducing crouch, Hotaru stood and examined her surroundings. By now, she was a comfortable distance away from all competitors (about 60 meters below them) and she could take the time to formulate some sort of plan.

The same form of illumination from above somehow trickled down here, giving Hotaru pleanty of light to look around. It was identical to the other levels; the same wooden flooring separated the ground from the earth below. The base of the massive tree plunged into the soil below the tower. 2 meters away from trunk (in the 4:30 position) she cracked her knuckles grinned. Maybe she could turn this thing in her favor after all.

It seemed a shame to have used so much ink... Then again, such things could always be replaced.


To clarify, my initial plan hadn't gone, well... Quite as planned, for lack of better words.I hadn't been able to make my escape in lieu of a large bubble of water rapidly filling the space around me. I'd have suspected Oshe, but by all means he seemed merely as dumbfounded as I about it. He threw a light grenade which seemed to be caught by the wall of forming water, or maybe it wasn't water, as it was now turning the scarlet color of blood, before it formed a dome around the both of us and filled in, restricting our movements with pressure and preventing us from moving. Given that this happened before Oshe had started the handseals for his technique, he'd never have gotten the chance to finish it, ergo I was safe from any perceived attacks he'd sought to launch, albeit I would've likely been protected anyway from the rubber soles of my shoes, given that it's rather hard to send electricity through an insulator like rubber.

The issue lay in the fact that both he and I were trapped, and I had a very good idea by whom. Fortunately, I had prepared something in advance. I had been planning to leave it as a bit of a present for Oshe and this mysterious stranger, but it seemed as though the latter had forced my hand, and so now we come full circle to the ink I'd used on my chosen canvas; in other words, the floor.

It did indeed seem like a waste to have emptied the whole bottle doing so, but having drawn twin serpentine shapes on the floor as I ran, my hand trailing back and making small but quick shifts left and right, before discarding the bottle right before the moment I was trapped, seemed as though it would save my life, here, or at the very least my chances in the competition. Perhaps my opponent did not see the significance in such an action. Perhaps he merely thought that I had prepared something else. To be honest, I was surprised that he had managed to catch both myself and Oshe in a single technique without vision of either of us, insofar as I was aware, but he'd done it, near as I could tell.

I of course assumed it was him, for as I was trapped and had my vision obscured by the bubble of scarlet water, or blood, or whatever it was exactly that I was trapped in, I heard the pounding and creaking of swift footsteps coming rapidly towards us from behind. Of course, they intended to close the distance as quickly as possible, it seemed, and so it was that my technique would come to fruition.

As for handseals, which I was sadly bereft of given my predicament, I didn't need them. From the moment I started to draw, the ink had taken on a life of it's own, waiting, biding it's time until I was done my work, and until I was ready. As the boy closed the distance to five meters, about my starting point in the room, my pretties would know it was time.

Rising from the floorboards rather swiftly; at least as swiftly as the stranger's bubble had enveloped us, if not faster, a solid wall of black scales some four meters tall would obscure my foe's path. However, it would not stay four meters tall for long, as the head of the snake which was looped behind him, now swiftly started moving, tightening a coil around the boy's position and looping over itself once, and then twice, forming an eight meter wall around him, with approximately four meters by two meters of space in the middle; just enough for the snake to fit. There was little room, if any, left beneath the point where the scales overlapped for the boy to try to squeeze through, and in the few brief seconds it had taken the snake to coil around my unknown opponent, it's head had reared up over the opening in it's coils, slamming down with blunt force at the being that would almost certainly be caught within. It would drive it's face down against this foe, smashing him into the floor, and likely either pushing him through, or slamming him against the weakened floor. If it did hit, and I felt sure it ought to, then likely he would wind up with a number of broken bones, and possibly ruptured organs from the sheer blunt force of the strike. If the floorboards broke, It would open it's maw and bite him, assuring he did not escape, before likely driving him through the second floor as well, and perhaps even the third, if he could not find a way to free himself.

Would it kill him? Possibly, but I hoped it didn't. I had little choice left in the matter though, as I wasn't exactly in the position to choose whether or not the strike was lethal. I only hoped my baby didn't hurt him too much. It was a fight amongst members of our village, and ideally I wanted us all to do well, and avoid any casualties as best as we could. As for the other snake that would rise from my drawings, for there were two serpents, it's job was simple. It would whip its pointed tail into the edge of the bubble we were trapped within, at roughly the same time it's brother started coiling around my foe, piercing the obstruction and setting both myself and Oshe free.

"You owe me one, Sempai"

I said the words with but the briefest exhale as I would leap to the second creature, (The one that had freed us) and grab hold in between it's scales, allowing me a brief moment to catch my breath as the beast slithered swiftly across the floor carrying me to the other side of the room, approximately hovering over the hole in the floor at 3:00.

Masteries:

Tier 1 Mastery - Mobility of Artistry: Skill, finesse, and patience. These are often the founding pillars of any masterpiece, which requires an extreme amount of focus. However, there are those of the Sumi clan-- often referred to as geniuses of their time --who have demonstrated the ability to produce astounding artwork without the need of remaining still. Those who have dedicated their time and effort into the clan’s jutsu to this degree are capable of drawing their art flawlessly regardless of the environmental circumstance.

Tier 2 Mastery - Inspiring Mass Production: Along with the profound skill of drawing in any position the user might find themselves in, they also find pride in their ability to produce more in world-breaking time. Sumi clan members of this level are capable of doubling the amount of creatures their famous Choujuu Giga technique creates, without adding any further costs.

Tier 3 Mastery - A World of Colors, the Final Mix: Masters of spying and espionage, the Sumi clan’s greatest asset is also their greatest weakness. While able to create nearly any creature they wish, the fact remains that its ink-based structure makes it an easy target. However, there are very few masters in the Sumi arts which have developed a unique skill to bypass this one flaw.

Ascending to this grand level grants the Sumi member the ability to mix color into their work, granting their creations perfect mimicry. With this, you wouldn’t be able to tell a Sumi creation from one of the real world (i.e if you put a tiger beside a ink-tiger they would be perfectly identical). This magnificent bonuses requires no additional chakra, and is simply a mutation of the traditional blank ink via chakra (during the “animation process”).




Chōjū Giga (Super Beast Imitating Drawing) (
Rank: D, C, B, A, S.
Type: Supplementary.
Range: See special.

Chakra: D- Low, C - Mid, B- x2 Mid, A- High , S- x2 High.
Special: The distance these creations may travel from the user depends solely on the user’s highest known Minu Ga Hana technique. Chōjū Giga allows the user to draw and subsequently summon their creations onto the battlefield. The rank of this technique determines the size of the creations, as well as the number. Traditionally, all techniques that are summoned are modeled after living things. It is not uncommon for clan members to, for example, combine kunai shapes into birds or replace knives with animal’s teeth in order to meet their field needs.
D Rank: This rank allows the user to create up to 5 tiny creations like sparrows, fish, and mice. Due to their size, nearly any damage, even basic taijutsu, is enough to destroy these small creatures.
C Rank: This rank allows the user to create up to 2 small creatures like cats, hares, hawks and snakes. These animals are a bit more durable than their smaller counterparts, but can still be destroyed with overview weapon attacks, including secondaries such as kunai or shuriken, etc. The number of small creatures they can create also increases to 10.
B Rank: This rank grants the user the option to create up to 1 medium sized creatures like lions, wolves, bulls. Due to their size, they have gained even further durability. However, techniques which would otherwise be fatal to the creature’s real counterpart will, of course, destroy the technique. Additionally, the limit on small sized creatures is increased to 5, and the cap on tiny creatures is raised to 15.
A Rank: At A rank, the user can create Large creatures such as elephants, whales, and birds capable of supporting up to 1 person to fly on. However, they are limited to 1 of these per use. The caps on lower ranked versions are also raised; the user can create up to 20 tiny creatures, 7 small or 2 medium. Finally, thanks to their size, they boast even further augmented defensive rating.
S Rank:The pinnacle of their abilities, Sumi clan members can create Giant sized creations, such as giant suits of armor up to 10 meters in height and five meters in width, or super sized versions of traditionally smaller creatures. These monsters boasted an incredibly resilience to most attack, requiring potent ninjutsu (or taijutsu) to end their reign. Additionally, it increases the number of tiny creatures to 25, small to 10, medium to 3, and large to 2.
Description: The most famous technique in the clan, nearly every jutsu stems from their ability to draw and create virtually anything their heart desires. Traditionally, even mundane items like swords and projectiles are melded with an artistic flare, combining them with animals to add mobility to normally static items. Additionally, each size creation has a certain defense associated with it and retains properties of their real life counterparts. For example, snakes can bite and constrict, birds fly, fish swim, and fangs and teeth are capable of scratching, slicing, and puncturing.

[bg=White] Akuharu sees every initial movement and minute detail of the snake as if in slow motion from the instant it begins to pull itself into being via the power of the Sharingan, just as well as he see's the chakra pervading the ink via Le Byakugan, indicating that indeed, his path will be obstructed quite soon. This gives him ample time to adjust for the roughly one to two seconds he'll have before it completely surrounds him and prevents his own movement. In that brief window of opportunity, Akuharu performs the single handseal necessary to launch Nuibari, using all his strength to let it fly straight through not only the snake itself and its wall of overlapping scales at the exact second that it rises up, but also curving so that the blunted handle of the blade strikes Omoi and Oshe in the heads with sufficient force to knock them both unconscious, as they are still trapped within a blood-colored sphere they are incapable of seeing through or dodging within (and only 5 meters away), given that the legendary sword can pierce through anything in it's path. Omoi's unconsciousness has a dual effect, of course, dispelling her technique. By the time the two bodies hit the floor, Akuharu has continued with his original plan, letting Nuibari return to him as he makes his way down the tree, out of sight of but moving towards Hotaru. The Nuibari, or "Sewing Needle", is one of the legendary relics made famous by the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. The blade itself assumes the form of a narrow "longsword" (長刀, chōtō) that greatly resembles a large needle, with a long length of thin wire mirroring thread, tied to the eye located at the base of its hilt. This sword is said to possess the ability to pierce all and stitch them together, demonstrated through its ability to effortlessly penetrate multiple targets in a single thrust and then quite literally stitch them together in substantial bundles, by simply pulling the attached wire taught. Legends claim a capable user can even throw the sword with the intent of piercing a line of multiple enemies, before catching the needle at the other side and repeating the process at different angles, in order to create knots of corpses with the wire passing through the entirety, effectively creating bundles of bodies at various points along the length of the thread. A truly terrifying sword indeed. Nuibari (Sewing Needle) Rank: S. Type: Sword. Blade Length: Three and a half feet. Handle Length: Eleven inches. Special: The Nuibari is a longsword in the shape of a large needle, with a long thin wire that resembles thread tied to the eye. This sword is said to pierce all things and stitch them together, being able to pierce multiples targets at once and stitch them together in bundles. This wire is “chakra-forged,” and because of this, is infinite in supply (it is created from the hilt and lengths as needed) without influence from the user. One of the most unique characteristics of the blade is the fact its cutting strength is on par with other fabled blades such as Kusanagi (allowing it to pierce through bone and even armor with enough force). Furthermore, with a single hand seal, the user can release the blade to take on a life of its own. It will propel and turn itself at the user’s will for one turn, and then return to the wielder for x2 Mid worth of chakra per use. This allows the user to make a “trap” of sorts of incredibly shard wire, which (as the weapon returns to the user) can be fastened tighter around a victim, slicing them to pieces.
