The blades of vengeances have fallen swiftly. The shinobi are no more as 'Absolute Justice' has returned...now, it is the Samurai that rule the Five Major Nations!
But at what cost? Have they become the very thing that they despised the most...? Heroes and villains seem to change roles every day, but one thing is for certain - we yearn for our freedom, for days gone by where we flew the skies unhindered.
The idea of compensation has not occurred to me at all, and I suddenly feel embarrassed not to have thought of it before. A life at sea has taught me to live for quite some time even without supplies, but my reserve of ryo is dismally low. I consider his proposal, and hear the sincerity in his voice as he speaks of a dear friend...no doubt one of his teammates on the infamous 'Mizu no Hidari', who could benefit from the use of the Sharingan I would discard.
If such a thing can be of value to you, then absolutely. I thank you for the opportunity, and would prefer if we began as soon as possible, Inuzuka-kun. And just 'Akuharu' is fine.
I smile once more, fascinated by the prospect of manipulating the form in such a way as to pass kekkei genkai from one body into another. The idea intrigues me, and as I stretch and scratch the back of my head lazily, I am already running through a list of scenarios, idea's and alterations, before speaking once more with a look of good-natured anxiety.
It will be several minutes more, before I remember to think about the pain.

"Of course, let us begin immediately. Please... lay down here."
Words could not describe how excited he was, but as a respective medic, Taiga would not allow it to allow his hand to falter. No, it'd remain true and steady during to operation. Though he was of a smaller stature, Taiga helped Akuharu down upon the medical table. Shirohime stood obediently, awaiting her brothers orders. She would not make a sound nor move without word from him. Putting on latex gloves as well as a surgeon face mask the boy pulled them firmly on and begin allowing chakra to circumnavigate his inner chambers, channeling it into the palms of his gifted hands.
"I'm going to put you to sleep, you'll awake when its over, okay?"
Without waiting for another word the boys hands hovered over his frame and his chakra begin to envelope Akuharu. Soon he'd be welcome to the realm of dreams, conciseness slipping away from his mind. Taiga smiled as he watched the man lay still, not a single movement. Walking over to the counter he called for a nurse to fetch Chae, he'd needed to be quick, telling her she nodded and went off whilst Taiga retrieved a moderately sized needle as well as a container. Filling it with a numbing anesthesia, he pulled it out and walked back over to his patient.
It was time Taiga thought as he stick the needle into several spots surrounding the mans right eye, with the final injection he paused for a moment, stilling his hands.
Taking the jar with the Hyuuga eye he placed it on a nearby stand while chakra steadily gathered to his hands. It'd all be over soon he thought. He'd have to be careful how he removed the eye. A bead of sweat formed at his brow as his readied himself to the task.
We have been walking as we spoke and I have not paid attention. Already, we are in a room whose location I cannot exactly pinpoint and my focus shifts to the table where I am asked to lie down, more stunned that there is anywhere to lie down than that I've complied instantly with the boy's wishes.
What leads up to the first needle entering my eye is unimportant. But as they move down, injecting the dense tissue surrounding that half of my face, I am momentarily reminded of having my lower jaw healed, the terror of not recognizing the stranger in your mirror. But I do not move. I am as still as death, I make no sound.
When the last needle enters, I am already succumbing to the numbing effect that spreads along the ridge of bone enclosing my eye. The deep black spasms into red, a sudden convulsion of color, a reflex to being approached with a weapon. But I relax soon into stupor only moments after, and with the dreams that come, I do not cry out until I am long asleep, and there is no one capable of hearing me.

With Akuharu now sleep, induced into a coma by Taiga's gifted hands the boy now set to remove the Uchiha's esteemed right eye. Chakra formed around his left hand, sharpening around a single finger. The Chunnin's eye and the surrounding area numbed when the procedure would be over he shouldn't have much pain until later in the day as it wore off, but for now Taiga had to be as precise as possible, even the slightest flinching of his hand could sever a never rendering Akuharu's eye useless or even worse the socket.
A single breath left Taiga's lips and his chest stopped it's subtle, slow fluctuation, stilling for but a moment as blood was drawn as Taiga carved around the eye, plunging the chakra scalpel into its depths. The motion was refined and careful as it pierced flesh. Stopping, Taiga grabbed the tongs and with care plucked the eye from is nestled spot. It dangled without care, but it was vulnerable, like that of a child. Inspecting it, the boy placed it within one of the vials before releasing the air within him and taking a quick, much needed breath.
"Now to insert the new eye..."
Reaching for the eye he carefully removed it , his and hovering over the removal site. This was the much harder part. Healing energies blessed the boys hands as he readied himself to reconnect the nerves and insert the eye. Actually performing the surgery was much harder than the boy thought, reading and studying up on it he thought it'd be simple, but in reality a slip of his hand, a mistake, connecting the wrong never and it was all over. The fear of mishaps weighed heavy, but the reward of success evened the scales.
Giving Taiga confidence he could complete it. He was almost there, almost finished...
A bubble of water, and a billion lights, and smoke and blood; endless fields of vein-shaped trees as black as midnight burst through a sticky sap of congealing blood!
What happens is a vulgar oversimplification of 'pain'. As the metal snaps the tendon holding my right eye, I feel as if I will vomit.
Panic and pandemonium and intensity. A guttural denial of being at ease, the disturbing half-sleep of one tortured but altogether too real as from a hundred years and yet mere inches away a blistering new layer of sensation radiates outwards from my thoughts themselves.
f a l
g . . .
and some disjointed fraction of mind wonders 'why am I not still numb?'
But I know what is happening. I can feel the deliberate erasure of every memory my right eye has ever held. A splitting away, a breaking apart; I cannot move and my mouth is dry but I am screaming nonetheless. I can see only darkness for what could be hours or days or instants between dreaming and being alive measured as each beating of my heart slows to near stillness, and then, I am s o m e w h e r e e l s e . . .
It is not day or night, but some ambiguous gray middle The sphere that shines down from above is foul and black, and each inhalation of air is done as if the world itself is nothing but ash. There is rain. Where it touches the ground and my skin, it stains, leaves behind what appear to be tomoe that burn themselves through to the core of wherever they come to rest.
("Where am I?") The sound vibrates like a blister tearing, but I am unanswered and suspiciously aware of being alone. My voice echoes through ground that arches up high enough for me to wonder if i'm scaling a cliff. I am on a massive island and on a dot of land so small it is insignificant given the scope of the sea and on a great eye that sits saturated in a scar of entrails and I am alive and dead and yet...UP. I am moving up. Towards the summit of this...hallucination...this dream...this nightmare...even as a flaring of chakra that is not my own casts harsh green shadows over everything.
I am afraid.
I am afraid.
And my eyes open fully to the chakra that suffuses my surroundings and for what seems like the first time, I can see.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Slow, stalling breaths released itself from Taiga's lips as he placed the Hyuuga eye within the now borrow socket. The process required the utmost care and a gentle hand, one that was fit to caress a newborn child. He had to be careful and not further damage any nerves within the Uchiha's eye. Sweat rolled down the boy's face whilst energies gathered to his hands and he began allowing them to mend the wound inflicted by his own hands. Each nerve was being connected to the eye, but he had to be extra sure that the eye would function as the old one did. Pouring all his concentration into it, the eye now settled neatly within Akuharu's right eye.
Knowledge of how the eye worked and is functionality in its entirety came in hand and it seemed the lads strenuous training paid off big. He was quite confident that the procedure had went well and that each nerve was tethered with absolute mechanical precision. Now the time to see the his effort bear fruit, Taiga changed the flow of his own chakra and stirred the now sleeping, dormant Uchiha. It wouldn't take long for the man to awake from his resting state and as he did, Taiga applied one final dose of healing energies to the eye for good measure. All objectives had been completed, Taiga's body was heavy from use of chakra, the surgery took a lot out of the small boy.
he could feel his body shaking from pushing himself to the limit, but he wore a smile upon his face. The hope of success brimming within his glowing gems.
"Wake now Akuharu and tell me... what do you see?"
Taiga's voice would beckon him from his dream like trance, enticing him to join reality once more. Taiga wasn't entirely sure if it'd function as it should, thus the words he spilled from his lips was to determine had he did what he thought would take him several more years to master or had he fell short? It resonated within the concaves of the boy's mind, yet he did not blink, only awaited the words.
There is no answer to my inquiry, or to the others I shout as my vision feels assaulted from all directions by a foreboding I cannot understand. My head feels heavy, drowning beneath too many thoughts as in this awkward dream I steadily climb a hill that seems to reach up into forever. At its peak, which takes days or centuries or no time at all to reach, I see an indistinct shadow that resists the enhanced sight that seems to permeate my entire body. It is midnight black, a new void breaching the abyss, and then...
...then there is light.
I sit up, suddenly, blinking. Without conscious effort, chakra flows into both of my eyes, the left a black spiral tinted with red, the right, a glowing white that causes the veins on that side of my face to bulge slightly. There is a momentary disconnect as my waking mind tries to make sense of the shift in perspective, and then everything collapses and unfolds and is laid bare.
I see everything. The pulse of chakra in my own body, in Taiga's, churning through the people in the next room. The insects in the walls and the tiny off-color organs within the insects, all in exacting detail that feels as if it wraps around my head and plunges into my every thought. I am visibly shaken. I barely hear the young man's question as he tries to see to my health, but the numb pain stemming from my right side is not the main distraction.
The world feels new, young. Brimming with a near innumerable shaping of light and color that intrudes into every fragment of reality. I speak up as if in a trance, swerving my legs over the edge of the small operating table, and try to look at Taiga without looking through him, and fail.
And I cough briefly as a surge of pain seems to ricochet between neurons. I lift a hand up to my line of sight, moving it back and forth, watching as twin trails of chakra representing its flow and a subtle constellation like mapping of odd points of light follow as if in slow motion behind it.
There are...points of light, like a chart of the sky, pin-pricks running throughout...nearly everything I look at. There is...chakra moving from point to point, I don't...I don't understand what I'm seeing. I can see through and into everything. The next room. The ground beneath us. I can see...I think.....I think I can see behind myself...what is this?
My voice is weary, even though I have not done the bulk of the work, and I feel impolite suddenly.

"That Akuharu is the esteemed Byakugan!"
Taiga couldn't help but reveal the large smile that had stretched upon his lips. He had done it, something most medics who were even older and more experienced then he. It was quite the accomplishment for a boy his tender age and even more it spoke volumes of his dedication and prowess as both a surgeon and a medic. He was surely on his way to becoming one of the very best Kirigakure had to offer. Turning around Taiga took a pen and jotted down some important scribble and placed it within his sisters mouth, whilst telling her to give it to one of the staff at work for documentation for future reference should they need to be pulled up.
"Amazing huh? I can only read about it and imagine but you get to see for yourself the truth of such power.."
The boy reveled in awe for but a brief moment, he was sure Akuharu had things to do and as such Taiga stepped forward, inspecting his work for but a final time and offering the Uchiha some bandages to cover up the eye that was no doubt consuming vasts amount of chakra from his foreign body, but if any other body could handle such intense power it would surely be the body of the cousin dojutsu.
"Your free to leave, but be sure to keep it covered, okay?"
As he spoke he grabbed Chae's medical records, looking over them beforehand to be sure that the operation would be safe for his brother and also that he'd be able to accept the evolved Uchiha eye. As he read, he was sure Chae would arrive soon, oblivious to why he was called to such a place by Taiga. The boy smiled, thinking of what he'd say when he found out his brother procured him something much needed for the great things he'd accomplish.
Why? He couldn't answer that question, but he had been unmistakably curious to find out. The day, for the most hard had been filled with nothing but miscellaneous running around after having received a message from a messenger to head over to Kirigakure's medical facility. From there, the employee's and medical trainee's informed Chae that his official teammate - Taiga- requested his presence within Kirigakure's somatology laboratory. Chae's level of curiosity only amplified by the fact that he hadn't heard of that particular 'laboratory' until that particular moment along with being requested specifically by Taiga.
"Wonder what all this could be about."
Truth be told, he wanted to see taiga, anxious to tell him of his new and undeniably powerful technique without actually showing him. He wanted it to be his trump card against Kirigakure's enemies and a secret weapon to the village itself, a weapon that not many others could stop on their own. Nevertheless, excited yet also nervous, Chae soon found his way over to kirigakure's official laboratory and quickly gained access after showing his identity as a registered Kirigakuer citizen and shinobi. Descending down a set of stairs, his eyes jumped from one place to the next, examining and observing the surrounding area with hidden interest.
"Weird, I've never seen this place up until now. Odd."
Looking around, he saw tubes and a myriad of what looked to be preservation pods, some empty while others were filled with various organs. Before long, he noticed Akuharu making his leave as his attention soon eased over to a standing Taiga with a chart of some kind within his hands.
"He, taiga, been a while since that last mission. What exactly. . .is all of this cause i'm just all the way confused."
Rael frowned, none too pleased to be summoned by an anonymous party, and yet somewhat curious about the previously unvisited point of interest. As a member of the village's medical division, he'd obviously heard of this new research facility, aimed towards testing the human anatomy, but never stepped foot inside its premises. And yet, from what the courier-nin briefly informed him before departing, he was expected to be taking over a surgery on another Kiri soldier within the laboratory. Not just any surgery either; an eye transplant. The young medic was uncertain why they couldn't just have one of the more experienced surgeons they had on call do the job, but he wasn't going to complain. If nothing else, at least he'd get the opportunity to look around and see what was so special about the place.
Walking over to the facility from home took him roughly twenty minutes, stopping once or twice to verify directions. Granted permission for entry upon showing proof of identification, as well as the summons delivered to him by the messenger, Rael was waved inside, immediately detecting a drop in temperature as he stepped through the entryway. The operating room itself was apparently located downstairs, and he navigated his way through the near-empty hallways, keeping an eye out for signs on where to go. Along the way, he passed by a black-haired male with one eye covered, but was denied the chance to ask anything before the other party hurried off, apparently in a rush.
Fortunately, he discovered the correct area before long, as evidenced by the sight of one familiar figure, the other unknown to him. The much older and taller individual, looking just as burly as described in the message, was no doubt "Kang Chae Yoon", the new recipient for whichever eye he ended up transferring over. Odd. It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with either of them; wonder why he needs a transplant anyway? Figuring that his questions would be answered sooner or later, he maneuvered his way over to the pair, greeting them with a casual wave.
"My apologies for coming late." The nine-year old tilted his head upwards, to get a clear look at his 'subject'. "You must be Kang Chae Yoon. Hiraiyomi Rael, medic. I'll be handling your surgery today."
It seemed, for some inexplicable reason, Taiga gave Chae the cold shoulder, ignoring his question regarding the need for his presence. Fortunately, a second medic made their way down the staircase, one of which immediately informed Chae that he'd been expected for surgery. His eyes eased upon Hiraiyomi as he introduced himself before fully identifying Chae. Judging from what he said, he had orders to perform and oversee the surgery itself, which, admittedly Chae had no problem with.
"This surgery, how long do you think it'll take? I'm not in a rush or anythin' its just, the brothel is sorta having a specials night I don't wanna' miss."
Once spoke, Chae laughed boisterously to the young man, not truthfully not even expecting him to understand the meaning behind his words. Before long, Chae made his way over to the operation table where both he and Hiraiyomi would begin their little experiment. Choosing to not be hesitant, Chae removed the miscellaneous items and carefully placed them on a nearby table. With everything removed, he lifted himself up onto the table, sprawling his body out upon its back in a lateral fashion. Huffing a series of nervous sighs, Chae expressed his readiness to begin the process.
"Ready whenever you are little doc. I got faith in ya, don't worry."
Rael just shook his head at the older shinobi's "The surgery will not take long, Mr. Kang; we will be finished well before the half hour mark is up. However, I must regretfully inform you, the 'brothel' you mentioned is currently...out of business; they closed just days ago. I'm afraid you'll have to get your jollies elsewhere." Should he mention the fact Yokumaru-sensei and him were responsible for flooding the entire establishment, then apprehending all their staff and workers before practically razing it to the ground?
Hiding a chuckle at the burly fellow's anticipated distress, Rael helped the man up onto the operating table, despite his ability to do so himself, then moved over to the adjacent table with all of the necessary tools he would need to perform the following operation. Everything ranging from surgical scalpels, to bottles holding various anesthetics, was included. However, there were several issues he needed to hash out before proceeding. The first, obviously, was the eye to be transplanted. As if on cue, the other youth wearing a lab coat handed him a small vial, containing a most unusual item that Rael immediately recognized. Personally, he knew no one bearing the fabled Sharingan, but word around the village was that their Mizukage and one of his direct subordinates recently each came to possess what should have been an Uchiha-exclusive gift.
Wonder which poor sod's got two empty sockets in his head right now.
Examining the red-tinted organ another few seconds, Rael turned back to his patient and maneuvered his way over, taking a seat on the high stool next to the operating table as he glanced down. Sensing the man's trepidation, he gave a wane smile and offered some mild humor to calm his nerves. "Deep and steady breaths, Mr. Kang. All I can say is, this will hurt less than giving birth. I wouldn't actually know, but I've been told it does." Well-aware his plan probably backfired, but smiling all the same, he raised the vial containing the Sharingan eye up so that Chae could see it.
"Which eye would you like me to replace this with, Mr. Kang? Also, anesthetics, or no?"
"The brothel? Destroyed?! Oh man, you can't be serious. That was probably one of the bests places in the entire village. "
His head turned and watched Rael gather up the necessary tools that he needed to successfully operate on Chae's eye. For a moment, Chae, admittedly, felt nervous, naturally envisioning something going wrong during the entire process. Fortunately, those thoughts, those visions immediately replaced themselves with with thoughts of fine women, fresh Sake, and a luxurious room where all of Chae's desire were fulfilled. He laughed at the young boy's comment, finding his words fully of truth and humor.
"Haha, you've got a point there. You're pretty funny kid. Oh, which eye? Go for the right eye, the left is my lucky one. Don't ask, long story. As for anesthetics, go for it."
Taking deep breaths, he relaxed his body, closed his eyes, and finally prepared himself for the operation.
"Do your worst doc, next time I open my eyes, i better be looking at you through only one, haha!"
Seeking permission to use anesthetics that would put Kang Chae Yoon in an 'inactive' state was merely for formality's sake; he would have applied it regardless of the man's decision. No one short of an idiot would request the operation to be performed while conscious and aware of the proceedings; only a bigger idiot of a surgeon would agree to it. "Believe me, Mr. Kang. The next time you see me, your view of the world will be quite different." Bringing his arms up, the medic-nin performed a sequence of fifteen hand seals, then placed both palms on the patient's chest, lulling them into an immediate and unnatural sleep.
Making his way over to the table with all of the necessary equipment, Rael carefully inspected the tools he would need for the following bit while slipping on a pair of brand-new medical gloves: two dozen modified acupuncture needles, designed specifically for treatment by those learned in the art. Extremely malleable, nearly twice the length of senbon used by Oinin and thin as human hair, few even amongst the Hunter Corps were well-versed in their application. As such, it was with extreme care that Rael took them in hand and returned to the practically comatose shinobi, slowly lifting each arm and leg before slipping five needles into the respective limb. While he could have left Chae awake for this segment of the operation, since it didn't hurt at all when done by a professional, the brawny adult might have had misgivings.
"In the odd event you should awaken during the surgery, Mr. Kang", he explained, despite knowing the other party's inability to hear him, "these will keep you from making even the smallest of motions; can't have you budging now can we?"
Satisfied the much older Genin was completely oblivious to his speech, Rael peeled back the man's right eyelid, making one last check to ensure the organ was motionless, before continuing to work. One by one, he gently eased the remaining sterile senbon into specific locations around the eye; three beneath the soft folds located directly beneath, and the last two at a downwards angle from above, just missing the hard bone millimeters away. As his fingers holding onto Chae's right eyelid moved away, the flap of skin remained peeled back; part one, success. Sending the barest amount of healing chakra down into the points of entry, the boy ensured that particular portion of his face was completely numb, as yet another precautionary step in case the man awoke.
