[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] SO IT BEGINS. The hospital in Iwagakure is quaint and unsuspecting. More makeshift then anything, really. The building is small, but then again, the staff are volunteers; No one really has the money to pay for a large scale operation, and the Kage had yet to subsidize a building, so they made due with what was available. Even so, despite the conditions of the place, the staff were no less rigorous than those of any other shinobi nation. They had strict standards, and wouldn't let just anyone join their ranks. Applicants would have to pass a test, one that was held every three months, in order to become a fully-fledged Iryou Nin. The time had come again for that very test, and a group of several hopefuls waited outside of the hospital, standing by the entrance and waiting for the line to thin in front of them. Meanwhile, a table had been set up, inside, where an Examiner sat, ticking off names of those who had applied for the exam, and her assistant handed them all notebooks and pens, before ushering them through to another room. "Nakawa Sado... Inoue Chiisui... Yamanaka Juun... That should be everybody for this batch, except for..." The instructor shrugged. There was always a straggler or two. She didn't much care. If they couldn't be bothered in showing up to their exam on time, then they certainly weren't the kind of ninja they were looking for. She watched the clock tick down absent-mindedly, waiting for the second hand to make it's way around one last time, signifying the start of the exam at Nine O'Clock sharp. In twenty seconds, the door would close, and be locked securely. Would their straggler make it in time? made by renni

Preperations...They had continued even from the night before...And the night even prior to that! The exams meant everything to him, well at least for the time being. One needed to achieve the first portion of their plan to reach their wanted goals in the future. Grinning as he slid a hand through his hair before pushing his glasses further up the length of his nose, he'd speak to Alenka. "I wouldn't be this prepared without you, I just want you to know that dear! You are so wonderful!" Grinning and embracing her in a kind hug, he'd hold it for a short while before stepping back and letting out a calm, yet positive sigh.

"Now, let us go...I fear our preparations may have eaten up a bit of our time...Sad, we won't be able to arrive fashionably early."

Fake sobs took him over for a split second before they exited the apartment with haste. And while they did not pause and began to make up time, they didn't run nor sprint, it was all about class right now. But, Gungnir couldn't help, but glance from at his watch a few times, time was running out. If they didn't get their in time he'd have to postpone his plans...again. His serious side pulling his innocent mask within the fire, he'd break into a sprint, fuck style! "Fall behind and you'll be left there!" With their sprinting came the closing of the gap between themselves and the "Hospital". Twenty seconds left, he didn't need to look at his watch, he held a mental clock of the time now.

Their sprint ended into a casual walk with five seconds to spare, pushing the doors open they stepped in, the doors slowly closing behind them with a single second to spare. His more child like self reemerging. "Gungnir Valhallios, I do believe I am quite literally right on time." Grinning slightly he'd bow to those who appeared to be the examiners.

The woman at the desk gives you a glare as she checks your name off, not fond at all of your arrogance at assuming you'd be let in whilst being so uncaring about almost missing the exam. She notes your companion and nods non-chalantly. "Very well, take your notebook and pen; however, your friend will have to wait outside." With that, the Green eyed instructor turns, and walks towards the classroom, assuming you would of course take her instruction. Her assistant, with blonde hair and pale blue eyes, would nods at you meekly as she leaves. "Here are your things... Good luck!~" After handing you your things, she pushes together her fingers and smiles a bit as she sees you on towards the classroom, the pink attire she's adorned being quite attractively form fitting. Were you to guess you might put her at perhaps in her early twenties, still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with naive optimism. Assuming of course you would follow the red-haired instructor, she would wait impatiently for you at the door, ushering you in before closing the door firmly behind you and leaving you to take your seat. "My apologies for being late, but we had a straggler." She stands impressively before a blackboard in front of seven rows of three desks, sixteen of which are full. The atmosphere reminds you of the ninja academy classrooms, except unlike the academy, each desk is separate and sits on a flat, level surface, quite different from the academy and not merely a system of walls that serve as tables for the row above, coupled with benches. It is perhaps less efficient in that respect, but it also serves its purpose. The desks are spaced out with four foot wide aisles between the rows, both for comfort and to avoid cheating. There are five seats free, those being the leftmost column, second row; the middle column, second row; the middle column, fourth row; the rightmost column, sixth row, and the left column, seventh row. None appear that different; then again, poor choices do tend to have a nasty way of coming back to haunt people. Which seat will you take? made by renni

Alenka would have to be left behind? But...But...No matter, it was a trivial matter and would not hinder him in the slightest. Childish like disappointment filled his facial expression as he slumped over as if he had a deformity on his back. Sighing he'd nod before raising himself up to his full height and facing Alenka, she was even taller than himself. "I'LL MISS YOU! But, if you can't follow me in then you can head on home or just sit around here, your choice dear!" Reaching in for a small peck on the forehead, he'd vanish into the room he was meant to be within with the rest of the examiners. Taking the offered notebook and pen he'd step into the classroom, though a slight vein began to protrude visibly within his temple.

"I did not straggle. In fact not once did I move slowly in my preparations for this day! And my goal was not meant to keep me away from the rest of the group. But, to each their own love!" Closing his eyes as he grinned and nodded at her he'd look for an open seat. Various ones showed themselves, but it was the middle seat, second row, that took his notice. Slipping into the chair he'd place his notebook down slowly before opening it to the first fresh white page. Clicking his pen active he'd await further instructions. He didn't want to get ahead of himself and make a poor marking on the blessed script before him!

If you were to describe the emotion on her face, it would fall somewhere between murderous and absolutely livid. You notice the white on her knuckles as her lips draw perilously thin. However, despite the anger she displays, when she speaks, her tone is cool, and her verbage strikes swiftly, like the bite of a serpent. "Well now, I guess someone has both a problem with respect AND attention issues." She stares at you even as her hand grasps the chalk that lays on the tray in front of the board and starts spelling her name on the board behind her. "My name, is Kurama Shizuka, and SOME of you would DO WELL to remember that it is I who will decide if you are to make the cut as an Iryou-Nin." And with a loud clatter, the chalk is replaced in the tray as the examiner's eyes scan the crowds of students; each of whom seem to bear a look of hope mixed with intimidation by being faced with this powerful woman. Her eyes linger on you for a second as she begins anew, taking a stack of leaflets from a drawer in the desk up front. "This exam will have two parts: A written half and a practical half. The written test will be ninety minutes, and will test your knowledge of medical procedures, human anatomy, the human chakra network, and various Iryou-Nin techniques. The second half will involve a series of hypothetical scenarios which you will be tested under in order to judge your reaction time, as well as your ability to think under pressure. For the sake of fairness, this room has been equipped with chakra suppression generators, in order to keep you from using ninjutsu as a means of cheating. Also, consider yourselves forewarned: If you ARE caught cheating, you will be immediately disqualified and will be banned from ever taking the exam again. Human lives are at stake, and we cannot risk them in the hands of unqualified idiots." She ends her speech with her eyes flashing in what you think is your direction, although you can't be certain, as she begins to hand out the tests, placing them face-down. You notice on the back of the booklet that she places upon your quaint table, it reads 'DO NOT TURN OVER UNTIL INSTRUCTED.' Either way, in a matter of seconds, Shizuka is back once again at the front of the room, her eyes roaming the crowd of students. "All questions are to be answered in the notebook unless otherwise specified by the test. There will be a space for you to print your name on the cover, please do so legibily once we have begun. The passing grade is Eighty Percent, so please, do try your hardest. Are there any questions?" The words hang in the air, but no one else puts their hand up. Do you dare to ask something? [/i] The child's words did little to Gungnir's confidence, it was as if an ant was crawling upon a marble statue. Merely grinning so intensely that it forced his eyes to shut, he'd await further instructions. Yet, despite not talking back a second time, the child conitnued to throw her weight about as if it meant a single thing to Gungnir. She was merely the first step to his future, to his greatness! And sadly for her, she had already been taken in as a memory, a mental note made to kidnap her and torture her to death...But, die slowly she would!

Yet, unlike what she saw in the others, she did not intimidate Gungnir, not even with his child like and care free mask. Instead his grin lightened up to your average one so he might watch her, the thoughts of her screaming in agony watering his mouth. Listening to her following words with the focus of a viper tracking a rat he waited, anxious to jump the gun and begin to scramble neatly upon the notebook before him, he wanted to be the best there ever was! Sliding his hands into each other, fingers lacing opposing hands he'd listen to the last bit of what she had to say.

Grinning as he separated his hands, his right hand used to push his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. His left hand soared from the desk to it's highest potential in the empty air. "Yes, is there anyway to obtain extra credit?!" Sure the question was meant to push her buttons, to make her snap even if it had no hope to. But, it also had a bit of truth behind it, if there was a way to gain a better grade, he'd do so...As long as it didn't mean cheating of course. Then again, when he had been taught by someone of Alenka's skill it meant very little for him to cheat, it would be useless too. It'd be a true disgrace to the months they had taken to prepare for this very moment.

She shakes her head as her forehead collides with her palm. before answering your question much in the way one would expect such a stupid query to be addressed. "No, there's no extra credit. This is an Exam, not an arts and crafts project. Would it kill you to take this seriously?" You think you see perhaps the slightest glint of pity in her eye, as though she might actually feel bad for you. You cannot gather what her reasons are, but regardless, she walks over to her desk, as no one else bothers to ask anything. With her eye on the clock on the wall, the room goes silent, almost eerily so, as it ticks down the seconds, until finally... "You may begin." The voice sounded sharply against the silence, cut through it, as the tide of seventeen tests were flipped. You glance over the first page and see a place to write your name as instructed, as well as a place on the notebook to do so. Looking further on, you skim the first three questions over, getting a feel for the weight of things. 1. You have been hit by an enemy ninjutsu. The jutsu itself wasn't that strong, however you feel dizzy, groggy, and your stomach feels as though it's burning in pain. What has happened to you and what is the most effective jutsu in your arsenal to cure it? 2.You find yourself stranded in enemy territory with two of your team-mates feverish, stricken by some unknown malady. Your mission is to return the scroll you've stolen. If you leave now, there is a chance you might make it out alive without encountering foes, however, you still have a long way to travel before you get into friendly territory, and your teammates will likely either die from the fever, or be captured and interrogated if you leave them. If you stay and heal them, however, it's almost certain you will face a fight from pursuing enemy shinobi, presumably of Jounin level. What do you do? 3. Name five medical techniques that can also be used for combat purposes, and describe how such effectiveness would be derived from said techniques. They stare back up at you from the blank white paper. Do you still feel confident? Or is your demeanor slipping? How will you come to answer these questions, and what more lies in wait beyond? made by renni

"Perhaps it might..." Nodding to her as the test was to commence, Gungnir was quick to write his name down...And on to the questions. The first question was simple, or at least in his mind it was, there were very few Ninjutsu that weren't strong, but could effect you in such a way...

Realizing that the Ninjutsu I was attacked with is surely poison based, the conclusion could only be summed up as that I would have been poisoned. But, just in case I would use the To Delve Into The Body Technique to check the status of my body, inside and out. And once having obtained the required information I would move on accordingly.

Nodding at his completion of the first question he'd move onto the next. And he immediately knew how to answer it, roughly in half the time it took to complete the first question.

Simply, one ally would have to be sacrificed. Ending one of their lives, and thus their suffering, I would be allowed to heal the other efficiently and no doubt with time to spare, to put distance between us an the enemy shinobi. One ally would be lost, another would be healed and would be able to help secure the scrolls returning to our village.

Moving onto the third question, Gungnir shot a glance to the clock, had any real time gone by? Not really, no second was wasted. Gaze already back on the test, he'd scan the third question's length. The question was perhaps the easiest so far.

Dead Hands Technique;
While the technique can be used to destroy useless and infected tissue, it can also be used offensively against ones foe, to destroy or damage their healthy tissue and such.

Cold Wave Technique;
While it can be used to aide with fevers and such, if one wished, they could abuse it's use and send their target into a fit of hypothermia.

Chakra Scalpel;
Well known for it's use in surgery and it's rare use in combat, it is nonetheless deadly. While it requires key precision, my studies have shown that if properly trained it can be used to sever planks of wood, and cripple targets within a few strikes.

Cauterized Technique;
Used to cauterize wounds, it could be simply converted to combat use by aiming to severely burn one's foe.

Blood Transfusion Technique;
Used to make sure one's patient does not bleed out, it could be used just as well to cause intensely high blood pressure in one's target. This could lead to severe internal bleeding and such.

Now he had to move onto the next series of questions.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,420,true] CONFIDENCE. You jot down your answers quickly, confident that you are, of course, correct. You've been studying for some time, so why wouldn't you be? You might stumble across a passing thought of overconfidence, but even so you continue to feel pleased with your answers. Others, however, are not nearly as pleased. You hear the occasional cough, and as you look up you notice a few nervous faces amongst the crowd; people with their hands wrung into their hair as they read, their expressions gaunt and their faces pale. Perhaps they have seen something you haven't? Or maybe they simply had not studied as much as you had, and were now reaping the benefits of being lazy? Either way, the next group of questions loomed before you, itching for you to finish them. They seemed a little more specific than the first three; a gradual curve, one might say, of difficulty. 4. State the effect of and maximum dosage of soldier pills upon any given shinobi at any time. 5. Name, in full detail, an Iryou nin's primary functions on the battlefield. 6. Give a detailed account of how you would perform surgery in order to remove fragments of shrapnel lodged in a teammate's ruptured stomach. Keep in mind the effect stomach acid has on the bloodstream. The three questions before you are certainly more daunting than those that came before. Are you still so certain? Pencil to paper once more, Gungnir moved onto the fourth question of the test. Scanning it's short worth, he'd begin to work his words, as if his pencil was his sword and the paper was the shield of his foe.

A Soldier Provision Pill afford the user a recovery in their chakra, and boosting it as well in some cases. Each pill provides the user with an additional amount of chakra equal to DOUBLE their normal chakra pool. And it is because of this only one may be taken at a time, more than one dose in a short amount of time would kill the user.

Now he was on to the fifth question.

Support. A Medic-nin is there to ensure the success of their team/group. They are to be aware of their surroundings at all times, for if they become injured they would not be able to properly heal their team. They are to avoid direct front line combat, for the above reason. They are to never give up, quit, and or die until they are the last of their team. They are not permitted to quit healing their team members until they have died. Though despite all of this, my studies have shown me that some Medic-nin have trained themselves in Taijutsu as a means to defend themselves more appropriately as well as their teammates.

And then six, it hit him like a wave of chaos...And he liked it. He hadn't prepared the past series of months for nothing, this question was like asking why a dog liked table scraps.

Firstly I would make sure a clear airway, proper breathing, as well as circulation are secured before analyzing the injury. Next, the Clean and Pure Technique would be applied to prevent infection, for obvious reasons. The Anesthesia Technique would follow this, followed by the Blood Transfusion Technique...The latter being used for the stomach acid and food leaking into the bloodstream and the damage it could cause, as well as making sure the patient didn't bleed out. Chakra Scalpel would then be used as a means to open the flesh, and remove the shrapnel, taking time to reapply the various listed techniques above to make sure the surgery is completed without any error or real problems. Once the surgery would be finished, I would cauterize the wound or merely heal it shut before bandaging up the wound and giving the patient some antibiotics as well as various other medical properties, as well as giving them dates to visit me for check ups.

Question six was his favorite so far.

You hear light groans of frustration, and you think you hear a sob as someone in front of you snaps their writing utensil. You're not entirely sure why everyone seems so stressed out; this whole thing has been easy for you thusfar. A breeze, even. A voice calls out from the front. "You have fourty-five minutes remaining." You don't seem bothered, though. This exam has been easy thus-far. Your eyes scan across the seventh question, and you smile. Then they comb over the eighth, and you realize things just got several magnitudes more difficult. Is THIS what people were groaning about? 7. A medic must be quick and effective when healing allies on the battlefield. They must be able to adapt to a situation and know how to treat the wounded before them, regardless of their body type. List FIVE unique bloodlines and THREE specific anatomical characteristics of each which would allow a medic to quickly identify each of them. 8. Draw a full diagram of the human skeleton in the space below, with all bones labelled properly. (Does not need to be perfectly to scale, but accuracy will be taken into account.) Time was half over, and you had THIS brain-buster to contend with. Would you even have time to complete it? Your eyes check the ninth question quickly, and you're just as shocked by its requirements. Pushing his glasses up a bit, he moved on to question seven, and while it might have been a brain teaser for other...It was more like a simple snack for Gungnir's!

[li] The Hoshigake's outer physical appearance makes them plainly obvious, various blue and grey skin tones, and the beady eyes, along with the gills.
[/li][li] Along with this they lack an entire bone structure, instead they have a system of cartilage.
[/li][li] Their sharp teeth are also unique, as while some [namely Kirigakure shinobi] have sharp, shark like teeth, Hoshigake literally have the closest thing anyone could have. The teeth are built like saws and there are multiple rows, and are quite replaceable in no time.

It had been a bit more difficult than he had thought, but he was sure he had answered enough with good enough answers to pass the seventh question...But, now onto the eighth. Reading it he groaned, he had never liked to draw, and he knew this one would take some time...Surely eating up a majority on the clock, but he felt as if enough remained for him to do it properly and still have enough for the last two.

You have less than a sixth of your total allotted time remaining, and you notice some people outright sobbing into their sarms faced with the struggle. One person, a man in a black robe, with long, red hair, stands up and takes his test up to the front of the room, already finished, apparently. You think you hear whispers behind you, but you can't be certain. If someone's trying to talk they're being awfully quiet. There are just two questions left now, and neither is simple. With the time left, you'll really have to cut out the distractions and do your best, or risk leaving something unfinshed. 9. Sketch and label all of the organs involved in the human cardio-pulmonary system in the space below and state their functions. 10. You find yourself in a combat situation. Your squad of five faces an enemy squad of five ninja. You believe they have the tactical advantage, but that all of your own ninja are stronger. If you rush them, you believe you can defeat all of them, although perhaps at the cost of a team-mate, some heavy damage, and near chakra exhaustion for the whole group. You can retreat, however, but you know you will be pursued, and either you, or one or more of your team-mates will likely suffer heavy damage in the escape, possibly incurring death because of it. Heart; Oxygen-depleted blood cells exits the body via entering the heart, more so the right heart/right atrium via the superior and lower vena cavas. Following this it is pumped through the atrioventricular valve where it then makes it's way into the right ventricle. It's finally step leads it to the semilunar valve and into the pulmonary artery.

Arteries; Blood is pumped from the right ventricle, into the pulmonary semilunar valve before it makes it's way into the left and right pulmonary arteries where it begins to travel through the lungs.

Lungs; Following their job, the pulmonary arteries carry deoxygenated blood to the lungs, there it releases carbon dioxide before it begins to pick up oxygen during respiration. Arteries are further divided in to very fine branches called the capillaries. Their function is to carry blood to all cells of the body via their very thin walls.

Veins; Oxygenated blood then leaves the lungs through pulmonary veins, leading them back to the heart, this time to the left heart, thus completing the pulmonary cycle. The recycled blood then enters the left atrium, which pumps it through the left atrioventricular valve and iinto the left ventricle. From there the blood is then distributed to the body through the systemic circulation before returning again to the pulmonary circulation, repeating the process countless times after.

Taking in a deep breathe due to the sheer amount of energy he put into finishing the ninth question as quickly as possible...He moved onto the tenth and final question! Scanning it, he found it to be perhaps a trick questions..., but he did not hesitate!

Entirely situational, it would depend on the mission, but as one was not given...Retreat...Retreat until the tactical advantage was our own, as suffering heavy damage to a single individual is much more acceptable than the death of one or more and the others becoming weakened in the process. And of course I would make sure I was not the injured one, but instead to keep the injured one in my care until I could heal him entirely and properly.

It was a stretch, but you seem to have been able to capitalize on it. Chairs start scraping and a line soon forms to the front of the room where people pile their tests one on top of the other. You notice one of your test-mates before you, a tall black man wearing pale gray clothing, seems to be visually shaking. You're not sure why this is such, but if you had to guess, you'd say it was due to fear. He places his test on the desk and saunters slowly back to his seat, before folding his arms before his head and burying his face in the space between, ashamed to show it. A few others seem to adopt similar worrying poses, clearly scared to know how they did. Would you be so confident? Either way, assuming you would follow suit, the examiner would motion for you all to stay seated and silent as she grades your exams. The red haired man a few desks over reclines confidently, wearing an obvious smile. Others tense up, yawn, or act altogether bored and/or restless as the wait goes on, but finally, after another quarter of an hour, the examiner stands, and faces you all. "Of the sixteen who wrote the written test, only SIX of you will be going on to the practicals. However, do not be discouraged; a number of you failed by only 10% or less. We know how stressful tests can be, but it's important that you study hard, and come back to write again." She looked at certain faces around the room.
