The brief wasn't exaggerating when it described the trees as 'impressively large'. They towered above normal trees and dwarfed the forest management workers. Arkiuz wagered none of the buildings in Kumogakure no Sato could reach this height safely or within his lifetime. A flurry of activity drew his eyes to the base of one large tree. A camp of sorts had been erected around the base of the thick trunk. A dozen or so make-shift tents and the bustle of men and women hacking and chomping at the bit of large pines littered the area, along with grunting, the occasional yelp of pain and the curses that followed.
Making his way along the dirt road the workers fashioned to a large tent at the foot of a large stump, several meters in diameter, Arkiuz pulled the tent-flap aside and stepped into the dimly lit area. Not at all decorated and plain with only a single bedroll, a table, and some scattered maps. Sitting among them was a large, burly man in work clothes, a bandanna worn over his black hair, a large axe sitting beside him and a map in hands.
"Excuse me, sir." Arkiuz spoke politely.
The man turned around, eyed Arkiuz with a squint and snorted, "We dun need a blessin'. Git lost, son." And waved a hand dismissively before returning to the map in his hands.
"I'm here to lend a hand. As per your request." Arkiuz responded politely, waiting.
The man turned around once more and grinned broadly. "Why ain't ya say so?" And jumped to his feet, towering over Arkiuz in a matter of seconds. He quickly sprawled the map out for Arkiuz to see and began to brief him on what needed to be done. They had done the brunt of the work; chopping, cutting, trimming. And now just needed an extra push to get the trees down quickly and safely. An hour passed as the two strategized and when the conversation was done, a brunt of the work would be given to the young Genin. Which is precisely why he had picked this mission.
Arkiuz strode out of the tent with purpose. He passed through the throng of tired, scratched and tough looking workers to arrive at the trees they had scored with axes and saws, glad that he was blessed with Fuuton instead of Raiton or, Heaven forbid, Suiton. And that the trees were fairly close together. It made this a bit easier and he wouldn't have to rely on anyone but himself. For now, at least.
Quick and efficient hand seals followed by a sharp inhale and the workers backed off. Three seals and... "Fuuton: Daitoppa!"
An exhale that was disproportional to his size and appearance exploded from Arkiuz's mouth. The workers had to cover their faces from the sudden blast of wind. The crack and explosion of wood filled the air, followed by the rain of splinters. The trees in front of the group had been split where they were cut and now began to tilt dangerously. Arkiuz made it a point to turn tail and run. More for theatrics than anything. Earlier in the day, he had made note of the trees and attached a thin line of Chakra threads, the same used in puppetry, to subtly tug the trees in an organized fall, all it needed was a powerful tug and Arkiuz was doing just that. The workers were in the way but when they saw the Shinobi turn tail and run, they followed and scattered.
As the dust settled and began to clear, some of the trees had fallen according to plan while others simply fell, unorganized but far from where they should or would have fallen naturally. He'd done what these people would have taken weeks to accomplish. Sometimes, it's good to be a shinobi among normal men and women.
Checking in with the tall foreman, he inquired if there was any more work (and if he could take some wood) to be done and the man laughed. Stating that they were now pushed further ahead of schedule than need be, he dismissed the young man. On his way back, Arkiuz noticed a runner with a letter in hand headed in the direction of the Mission Base.
