SENSOUSHISHI
戦争ライオン
The War Lions
[/center]
The history of the Sensoushihi goes back farther than most texts will tell you. Throughout the ages their tale has been retold countless times and, thus, has countless versions and variations. Some accounts claim that the Sensoushihi created the very first thunderstorms by roaring to the heavens eons ago. Others believe that when warriors die on the battlefield they are escorted into the afterlife by the Sensoushihi. However, the oldest and most respected telling of their story begins with an old sage.
The Tale of Unari the Sage is a bit of a legend, really. It's origins date back to the beginning of all things, when the predecessors to modern shinobi arts were still in their infant stages. It tells of a man Unari who lived on a mountain in what is now known as Kaminari no Kuni. Unari was a hermit of sorts. He lived alone on his mountain, you see, although it hadn't always been that way. There was a time when he lived in a small village down in the valley, surrounded by colleagues and friends. The lot of them were some of the first practitioners of Ninjutsu.
The ability to physically manifest ones Chakra was still a relatively new thing and thought to be unheard of in other parts of the world, so the mountain-dwelling 'wizards', as they were came to be called, took great pride in what they could create. Unari, though as much a Ninjutsu-user as they were, was a bit different. He wasn't content with manipulating the elements as his fellow practitioners were. He dared to take it father. He dared to tread in God's territory. He dared to use his Chakra to create life itself.
This dream, however, was deemed blasphemous by Unari's fellows. They shunned him, banished him, even, for his endeavors were thought to go against nature. Exiled, Unari found refuge in a mountainous cavern. He continued his quest to create life with his chakra. It is said that years of seclusion and fierce determination are what brought him to a breakthrough. The legend tells that at the first break of day after a brutal, yearlong winter, Unari plucked a strand of long, white hair, held it up to the sunlight, and poured his chakra into it. The strand of hair multiplied a thousandfold into a massive, white mane - a mane belonging to a beautiful lion.
This lion spoke to Unari, telling him that he had never before been summoned by a human and that only a truly worthy being could summon him. The lion bowed to Unari, deeming him worthy of his servitude. Unagi returned to his village with his creation, and his colleagues praised his masterpiece. However, though once a humble scholar hoping to unlock the secrets of Chakra manipulation, Unari had since become bitter toward his former comrades. He thought of them as traitors to him and to their art. As such, he had his "creation" destroy the village and it's inhabitants.
Unari, poisoned by this new power, sought to share it with the world by means of domination. There wasn't a force on the planet that could match him, let alone defeat him. The lion, however, wasn't going to have any part of it. Unari's yearning for world domination was all hatred and no heart. He would no longer take orders from someone who lacked heart. As such, the lion vanished without another word, deeming humans not yet ready to wield the power of the Sensoushishi.
It is said that Unari retreated to his mountain cave and tried relentlessly to recreate the mighty, white lion once more, but no matter how many strands of hair he plucked, he was unsuccessful. He would never see them again, not in life, anyway. But perhaps in death.
