Mannerism, etiquette and civillized conduct are all hallmarks when it comes to Etsuo. Contrast is stark and apparent between him and your average Shark-Man. He does not indulge in the bellicose behaviours of his fellow Hoshigaki, rather he finds pleasure in secular behaviours that most of his 'brethren' would vomit at the thought of. Etsuo is in constant turmoil trying to suppress his more primitive needs, and occasionally his most grotesque fantasies, the consumption of human flesh, will briefly influence his thought process. In times of desperation or great despair Etsuo finds himself more violently inclined, entering a somewhat berserker mode where he has a hard time discerning a rational course of action. Motivated only by an undying hunger, in these outbursts, Etsuo is highly volatile. To combat this, Etsuo has learned to manage his anger, and has disciplined his appetite in various ways, such as only allowing himself to eat meat, as to suppress his normal bloodthirst.

Nevertheless, this persona doesn't arise all too often, and the majority of people he has come into contact with don't even know such as side exists. In him they see a sophisticated individual, who is not easily swayed into a cause of which he doesn't wholeheartedly believe in. Some may say he's a tad stubborn. This is partially true, as it is often hard to get Etsuo to agree to anything really. This rule however, is almost totally negated if a woman is involved. Etsuo has a soft spot for women, especially ones he finds attractive, and often succumbs to their will as if they were some master seductress.

Etsuo, who possesses a fond admiration of the opposite sex, not only has the devilishly good looks to attain their favour, but a charming attitude aswell. He indulges in witty conversation, small talk and other things of that nature. Gregariously natured, Etsuo has a knack for talking people up. He is well-liked by all who come in contact with him due to his intelligent banter. Etsuo is just an all around intresting person to be around.

Apart from being a ladies' man, Etsuo is also known to be a great leader. Maybe it's his intelligent persona again, which gives him extraordinary credibility. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't take many words from Etsuo to stir up a cause. He's not all talk either, Etsuo's also known as somewhat of a strategic genius. He loves to take high risks, however only calculated ones for he is very analytical. He prefers decisively silent victories over bloody triumphs. Etsuo would go so far to say that he enjoys outsmarting and trumping his opponents, treating battle as sort of a game.
