flashback || mid-afternoon
But she wasn't done. That was just twenty-five needles which was one quarter of the hundred. She needed to devise a plan. Right now it was like she was running a marathon and she just passed the first mark. There was a long way to go. In the absence of any rational thought she had used up a lot of her chakra of this time but not without any result which was at least comforting. She closed her eyes and did a rough estimate of how much chakra she had left. Definitely not enough to hit the fifty needle mark. But, it was enough to solidify her twenty-five needle mark. The really good thing about training was that there was always room for her to learn and solidify. The basic part of the jutsu was learned and solidifying only meant that she was trying to make sure that her new skill wouldn't fluctuate. She would hate having to start from the very beginning.
But that meant that she was going to again have to use up her body's remaining chakra in one go. Even if she didn't want to, she really didn't have a choice. It was either her chakra was going to go to waste or she was going to try and do something useful with it. She already expected the results and so she wasn't that worried about it. The second round of her training was about to end and no without progress. It was a short round; shorter than she wanted; but she got somewhere with the stupid water flying needles. She was certain that after this jutsu she wasn't going to train for a very long time. She was getting very tired of training.
She released the last parts of her chakra into the air. She was not going to have to be analytical while the air gulped up her precious energy. She looked at her final product. Twenty-five needles would form after she was done releasing her chakra into the air. She was going to have to do a lot more than that to be able to get to the full learning capability of the jutsu. She was certain that if she kept at it right then and there, she would eventually be able to get to that point. But she was really getting tired, tired enough to call it quits. It wasn't that she wanted to give up but that she needed a break. She had been training non-stop for the jutsu since the moment she woke up.
The best part of it was that the air had consumed all of her body's remaining chakra and so she was going to have to give up anyhow. She just felt that at her current level, she was not yet ready to go forward with such a high rank jutsu. She sat down on the ground, her eyes casting down as she finally admitted defeat without even putting up a fight for the full four turns. There was still somewhat of a want in her head that she wanted to continue. But her body was not going to let her as she fell to the ground, all the energy escaping from her body. She hit her limit and failed at trying to go any farther.
