Once again, she had wandered further off than she had meant to. Luckily, this wasn’t a rare mistake for her and the surroundings were familiar to the golden haired girl, but it would take hours to get back home – she would miss the dinner.
Father won’t be happy when he hears about this…
She sighed softly and shook her head, her small hand stroked the fine fabric of her white dress absent-mindedly. Well, at least the day was beautiful: the sky was blue and cloudless, the forest green and lively.
That’s what had driven her out of the village and in to the forest again, a conversation with her father.
Roze halted her steps when she arrived at a small opening in the sea of trees. It had been the usual conversation about her age – she would be 18 far too soon – and finding an acceptable husband (plenty of money and from a good family) for her so she could make herself useful. That’s all he had been talking about lately.
A movement at the corner of her eye-sight returned Roze to reality and she turned quickly to find the cause. A big bird rose above the treetops and flew over her head, the flapping sound of its large wings loud in the quiet forest. Roze followed its flight with her amber eyes and let out a small amused sound when the animal disappeared from sight. It was a familiar creature, majestic old hawk, the king of this territory. She would have liked to get closer to the bird – she had tried numerous times – but her carelessness had ruined yet another chance to do so. That’s right, why to think about the past when there was so much to do right now?
Now that she was here, there were many options to choose from: she could go to check the small cave where a fox had moved some time ago and she suspected that now she might also find rowdy little cubs there; or, she could go to see that flower she had found on her last adventure, there wasn’t anything like that plant in the entire forest – how had it gotten there, had someone planted it…?
The flower. Before she had even really decided that option, Roze was already running towards the place where she had last seen the flower, the shore of a small pond. She was almost there, anyway, as if she had unconsciously decided her destination hours ago. And there it was: the dark forest pond and only a hand length away from the water grew the flower. Roze kneeled beside it carefully and put her hands around the bloom, careful not to harm it. The petals were deep blue, the center like a small ruby and it looked like a giant harebell with only one flower. Her thoughts started to wander again and she started to create a possible history for the beautiful plant in her head.
