Murder in Kawatonton!

Mission info: A teenage girl was brutally murdered in Kawatonton, a town just north of Kirigakure. A second was brutalized, but escaped death. Find the killer and give him a dose of his own medicine.

As the sun rose over the eastern horizon, a new day dawned upon the Land of Water. People arose to perform their various daily rituals as the village was brought to life by the sun that consumed the night's darkness. However that one unique trait of the village remained: the mist. It was everywhere. It sort of provided the village with a 'spooky' feel, perfect for those who preferred to remain hidden.

Yox set out of the village gates with a new task today. A new day brought on a new mission to be completed for the Mizukage and the village. As he walked out of the large gray gates, he pulled out a scroll with the details of the mission. He read the contents whilst heading down a long dirt track through a rather dark forest. Today he was directed to the north, to the town of Kawatonton. It was a rather small town based outside of the village, however as it fell in the land controlled by the Water Land's Daimyo, the village and it's ninja were accustomed to lend assistance to this town whenever it was required. Recently there had been murders in the town, and it was Yox's job to get to the bottom of it.

The damp leaves, from the water molecules in the mist, rustled around him as the wind gently blew against them. It was a peaceful place, the Land of Water, but it had many unpleasant people within it. Even the ninja of the Mist were renown for their brutality and lust for battle and war. A nice juxtaposition. As Yox walked he wrapped his brown cloak around him, maintaining the warmth near this body whilst trudging along the path. He kept his eyes cautiously looking around him at the deep forest, careful of anything unexpected that would jump out suddenly.

As he closed in on the town, Yox could read the town banner on a wooden plaque above their small gates. He had finally reached his destination. The first place he would head would be the survivors house. He had to find some answers, he needed to catch a lead to track down whoever was responsible for these murders.

Knocking on the door to the house, Yox awaited a response from inside. As an elderly man and woman opened the door whilst clutching each other, Yox made it clear who he was by revealing the headband of the Mist that was wrapped around his waist. They nodded in response to him, leading him through their house and into their daughters room as she lay on the bed. Yox looked at her state and felt pity for her. She was a young girl that obviously couldn't defend herself. The person responsible would pay... with their life.

"Could I have some alone time with your daughter?" Yox questioned the parents as his tongue habitually slithered around the outside of his mouth. His piercing glare frightened the couple, although the intent in his eyes proved to be that he would bring no harm to their child. So they left him. Alone in the room with the girl on the bed. She innocently looked back at Yox as he sat on a chair on the side of her bed. She had been brutally bashed and was still recovering. Yox tried his best to show that he meant no harm to her.

"I'll find who did this to you. But first I'll have to ask you a few questions. You're lucky to have escaped death. You weren't the first victim. I'll need you to tell me about the person, starting off with the basics. Tell me what you remember," Yox asked the girl as he drew out his own personal notepad and pen. He would write down the details as the girl spoke them to him. He needed some sort of image, some sort of description that he could go off. As for right now, he only had a blank page in front of him.

The injured girls gaze turned out to the window nearby her bed. She looked out as the sun glistened and brought life to the land outside. As she sat there quietly, Yox realised that it was still a very confronting subject for her to talk about. A near-death experience would shake up any individual. But after a moment of silence, she turned her head back to Yox and began to speak. "It was a boy. A boy from my past. A boy I remembered when I was younger. We used to tease him and at the time we believed it to be harmless–.. but now I've seen what he has become. I've seen now the effects on him. I suppose this is his revenge. The revenge of years of torment from us. The revenge that has taken the life of a girl I know, and almost mine. I regret what we did and said to him years ago, but I doubt he cares of that now. He lives for vengeance, and his personal justice. He's grown up now... but his mind is deranged. To think he would go this far. To think... he would kill someone. My old school book is over there on the shelf. Inside there will be a photo of him. I can tell you where he preys on his victims, where he attacked me."

Yox scribbled down the minor details as she worded them to him. Once she had finished, he picked himself up off the chair at her side and made his way over to the bookshelf in her room. He skimmed his right index finger along the assortment of book spines, reading the words that were vertical along the books. 'Year book'. Pulling the red scrapbook out from the shelf he made his way back to the girl and handed her the book. She then flicked her fingers through the pages, coming to a page at the back where a photograph of her class was pasted. She pointed to a feeble boy up the back. A feeble boy with glasses and ragged clothing. He was standing alone as the others in the class were smiling and embracing each other. This boy looked miserable.

"He doesn't look like this anymore. Though, I didn't recognise him at first. He dropped out of school after the boys and girls in our class teased him. I thought he moved to another village. But he's here now... and he means business. I doubt he is the same innocent child I knew from my days at school. Years of torment has changed his mind into something psychotic," she said whilst looking at the picture of her classmates.

"Tell me where you were attacked," Yox said to her whilst gazing at the photo and carefully studying the face of the boy. He had a good memory, he wouldn't need to take a photograph of this person with him. She responded to him whilst he studied the image. "Down by the old leather factory. It's abandoned now, but it's a shortcut to get home from the town centre. He got me when I wasn't looking. Luckily I didn't get knocked out like the other girl."

"I'll put an end to this guy," Yox hissed at her as he re-adjusted the chair after being seated on it. He gave a final nod to the girl, leaving her room and her house to the street. It was time to scout out the abandoned factory.

He tugged his cloak around him as he exited the victims house. It was time to track down the murderer. At least he had some sort of lead now, and a vague idea of his appearance from an old photograph. He figured the best place to start looking was around the crime scene where the last event had taken place. If this was the perfect spot to strike, the culprit would definitely return there to carry out his bidding.

The town had grown much louder than it was prior to Yox going into the victims house. Stalls and street markets began to open around him, as more people packed into the streets for the purchase and sale of goods. Yox walked past various street stalls selling foods alike. He purchased a pork bun in exchange for a few coins before heading toward the district where the abandoned factory was. He would find a spot near the factory and wait– wait for the murderer to return.

He paced down a dirt road, exiting the busy district and heading off into a more quiet part of town. Many quiet houses were around him, and the street stalls had cut off a few miles back. If any environment was more perfect for a mugging, this was it. If someone screamed it was doubtful that anyone would hear it, and if they did... doubtful that anyone would actually come. Yox walked into a nearby alleyway, gripping onto a ladder that headed toward the roof of a house. Climbing up the ladder, Yox made his way up on top of a second story house. The perfect view was always from a good height. He could see the factory quite clearly, sticking out from the wooden houses like a sore thumb. Leaping across the rooftops, Yox made his way to the factory.

He leaped across the road from a rooftop, heading toward a ledge on the factory. The plan was to sit above and watch what occurred below. He would be like a silent snake. Watch from the tall grass, waiting. Patiently waiting for a guileless mouse to come closer and closer until– BANG, he would strike. Yox chewed on the rest of his pork bun as he watched the streets below. There was not much activity. A few passers now and then but no one who matched the appearance he remembered from the photograph. It seemed to be just an average slow day in Kawatonton.

Yox swung his legs back and forth as he sat atop the ledge of the building. He raised his chin upward, looking to the sky and admiring the clouds that were developing above him. It was a nice place. All of a sudden something drew his attention back to the streets. Loud footsteps and panting of an individual drew closer below as Yox watched from above. Soon the person began to shout out. "Hello! Mister, are you here? Ninja of the Mist. It's my daughter. As I was coming home from the markets when I saw him watching her from the rooftop opposite our house! We have to hurry back," the man shouted out into the air. He was unaware that Yox was perched above him. Nevertheless, Yox quickly leaped down to the man.

"I'll get there as soon as I can. I'll put at end to this mess," Yox hissed whilst slithering his tongue around. Without a response from the father, Yox took off through the streets. Kicking up from a nearby pile of dumpsters, he leaped back onto a roof and scaled the side of a house to the rooftops yet again. He knew exactly where he was going and it wasn't that far away. He just hoped that he would make it back in time.

Yox leaped across the buildings with his golden hair flowing in the wind around him. He had to make it back to the girls home, and he had to make it fast. Any moment that boy would finish what he started. Any moment the deceased list could rise to two. With his arms pivoted straight behind his body, he aerodynamically flew through the air whilst pushing off the various rooftops below him. He hoped that he wouldn't fall, any minor delays could result in the death of the girl.

He could finally see the house come into view as he headed closer. The window was wide open. Perhaps he was too late? Leaping across the final building, Yox landed on the roof below the window. Shifting his body up and into the room, he rolled inward and withdrew a kunai from his leg holster at the ready. He quickly peered around him, studying the room carefully just incase anyone was to suddenly jump out at him. It was clear, except for the bed.

The young girl lay there motionless. A knife was plunged in her chest. It seemed the job had been finished, and Yox was too late. He dug his own kunai back into his holster as the door barged open. It was the father who had finally caught up. He looked at the sight on the bed, the sight of his dead daughter. Tears began to flow from his eyes and down his cheeks as he silently paced to his daughters lifeless body and held her. She had been lucky the first time, not so much now. Yox hung his head to the ground as the father nursed his dead daughter. His golden hair flung over his face, concealing any minor emotions that his face made.

He had to track this guy down before it was too late. Many more victims would follow this girl. It was Yox's top priority to track him down and find him before more pain was inflicted on the parents in the village. Without speaking to the father, Yox leaped out the window and onto the roof beneath it. Rolling across its surface, he kicked up again and proceeded up to the rooftops. He would have to monitor that construction site like a hawk. That was the spot where the crimes went down, that was the only real lead he had. That and a brief image in his head of the guy when he was younger. No doubt he would've changed by now, especially if he had become a brutaliser.

He made his way back to the ledge that he had been seated on prior. Digging into the backpack on his back, he pulled out his set of binoculars that were inside. From there he held them to his eyes and looked around the streets below. He studied the faces of everyone that passed by, everyone that was even close to the scene. His determination to catch this creep had now risen tenfold with the death of the girl. How she had been so helpless and yet the boy did not stop there, how he had to finish the job. It made Yox slightly angered. But in a way Yox admired the boy. He finished the job he started. Something that Yox always believed was a good trait, but now he had seen it turned bad. Nevertheless, Yox would find this guy... and he would kill him.

Up above the sun was illuminating the shadows in the streets below. This large high rise building provided some good darkness to the area below it, especially when the sun was positioned behind it. By the late afternoon, this area became the spot for anything shifty to go down. Yox watched as a few dealings occurred below him. A few men approached each other, two of them separating and meeting as they shook hands. An obvious exchange of goods and ryo was made before the two groups separated. Yox was not concerned by this criminal activity, he was more concerned about the killer he had to find. He was still coming into realisation that the girl he had talked to this morning was now dead. He would avenge her, and the other dead girl.

Peering through the binoculars, Yox noticed a boy in his late teens approach the compound. He was rather shifty himself, looking around him as if someone was following him. Yox slipped his binoculars away back into his backpack. This boy was a little too suspicious, and because he was by himself, it made him top priority. The boy pulled a shoulder bag off himself and placed it on the ground below him. Yox stood up and shifted his body across the ledge, taking a closer look to the bag and its contents. Yox identified what looked to be some rope and a heavy metal pole. Squinting his eyes, Yox realised who this person was. It had to have been the killer. Who else would be carrying a bag filled with rope and a thick metal pole around in their bag? The obvious tools of a thug.

The boy continued to run his hands through his bag, appearing to make sure that everything was in it and that the rope was long enough. Perhaps another victim would come here, perhaps he was about to make another hit. Yox would continue watching the boy, he wouldn't let another person fall victim. Suddenly Yox could hear the whistling of someone coming closer. The voice sounded low even though the pitch of the whistle was high. Leaning back against the gray concrete wall of the factory, Yox watched from above as another boy in his late teens entered the scenario. He was walking down the street with what looked to be a fishing rod hanging over his left shoulder. As he approached the area closer to where the suspect was, he tilted his head as if he knew the guy.

"Hey," the boy with the rod said, "Tomtom. You're back in town? I haven't seen you in ages! Since primary school man. You've changed quite a bit now though. You've lost your glasses and bulked up a bit! Haha you look kinda scary now," the boy joked. Yox leant over the edge to take a closer look at 'Tomtom' who was now below him. Yox noticed the bag was open nearby but the pole seemed to be missing. It was then that he realised Tomtom was holding it behind his back as he spoke back to the boy.

"I'm glad you remember me, because I remember you. All the mean things you said to me when I was younger forced me to relocate to another town. What you did to me at school carried on at home. Now my parents are both dead... and you're to blame," Tomtom said as he paced closer to the boy with the rod. As he approached, the boy with the rod's face changed from quite a cheerful one to a rather sad one.

"I'm sorry for your loss," he said, "but we didn't know what we were doing back then. We were just young kids man, we didn't mean to hurt you like that! And I never meant any harm to your parents bro, I swear." Yox watched as Tomtom firmed the grip around the pole in his right hand. He had paced very close to the boy with the rod. It was obvious what was coming next. Yox had to act, and he had to act fast. Leaping off the building, Yox dove down through the air closer to the two. He channeled his chakra into his right arm as he mumbled to himself, "Way of the Snake". His right arm proceeded to jolt in front of him and stretch out to the body below. He caught Tomtom with a fist in his kidney, thundering the boy to the side winded from the strike. In the process of falling, Tomtom also dropped the metal pole on the ground beside him. Yox then landed on the ground to see the other boy with the rod rather stunned as he stood there to witness everything unfold.

As his right arm slotted back into place, he shoved it into the boys chest with the fishing rod slung over his shoulder. The boy was jolted back from the palm to the chest, sending him back a couple of feet and out of harms way from what was about to unfold. On the ground, 'Tomtom' looked up to Yox with a confused look across his face. He wondered who Yox was and why he had just knocked him one in the kidney. Winded, the boy heavily panted whilst holding the right side of his chest with both hands. Struggling onto his knees, he looked up to Yox above him and muttered out a few words. "What the hell was that for?"

Yox looked down to the boy with disgust. His tongue slithered from side to side around his mouth as his eyes remained fixed. "I am Yox, a ninja of the Hidden Mist. For your crimes against the people of Kawatonton, you have been sentenced to death. May your soul rot for eternity," Yox hissed down to the boy. The eyes of the boy widened as Yox spoke. He looked toward his waist, looking to the sign of the Hidden Mist branded on the metal headband. He struggled to rise up off the ground, but his injury and the assistance of Yox's foot held him down on his knees. He continued to breathe heavily, though each breath growing larger and larger as he began to panic. There was nothing he could do.

Leaning his own head back, Yox placed his hand down his throat to grab the handle of his rapier. He always kept his primary weapon stored within his body and with the assistance of his bloodline limit, he could access it at any time. It was the perfect hiding spot. The rapier slid out, the tip shining as it was pulled from his throat. Yox held it into the air above him as the sun tinted off the moist blade. With a final look down at the struggling boy, Yox sliced the tip of the rapier across Tomtom's neck. The pierced flesh leaked blood as the boy dropped to the ground. Yox watched as the life was drained from the boys eyes as he faded to the ground. The pool of blood grew around him as his face planted on the dirt. The task had been finished before a third victim's life had been taken.

Yox turned his gaze back to the other boy. He slid the wiped the blood off his blade on his cloak before sliding it back down into his mouth. The boy looked as shocked as ever. His face had turned white since Tomtom had collapsed on the ground. "Don't be afraid. I wont hurt you. This boy has been killing many of your classmates from the past. Those who have hurt him, he has hurt them back now. His mind was delusional. It's time for you to leave," Yox enforced before looking back to the corpse. It had created such a mess, he really needed to work on his killing technique and prevent so much blood loss. It was a sickening sight. But now he had to clean it.

Ripping off the boys shirt, he wrapped it around the gash across his neck and hoped that it would trap most of the flow of blood for the time being. Yox lifted the boy over his shoulder and walked in the direction that the other boy had come in with his fishing rod. He would simply dump him in a river and let him float away. Death was a natural part of life. It was a shame it came so soon for this teenage boy. Yox thought about the rumours of the war that was coming to the Hidden Mist... there would be plenty more dead bodies to come.
