I didn’t really know what I was thinking as I took that mission slip. My eyes had barely even touched the wording or scanned by the direct subject of the objective of the mission until after having exited the mission headquarters. “Damn..”, my usual response to having fucked up in situations like this. I don’t know why my nerves become startled in enclosed spaces, it made me look hesitant and paranoid as I brought it up to the receptionist. My nervous ways had birth from living in a household of strict punishment. Although I hadn’t lived that lifestyle for over eight years now it still seemed to hold somewhat of a hand over my shoulder in society.

The mission note would become crumpled in my hand as I met with a group of investigating shinobi, a young duo of brats. They were all of genin ranking – training to become ANBU at young ages to progress quicker into the ranks of their fathers. I held no grudge to society like their predecessors, but I did want to push my limits further. I needed to get my name out there somehow – completing missions was one of the better ways. Its all me and my other teammates as a genin used to worry about, it must have meant something even back then. My ruby-red eyes settled eagerly upon the batch of genin accompanying me along the mission. Before making my presence known I’d cough to assert the attention of the mingling group towards me.

“GEAR UP. NO TIME TO WASTE..”

My voice was calm but very spirit-crumbling to any of the few who thought I was ‘cool’. ‘Cool’ got you killed – and it would be the first thing they’d know if they paid any less attention. My goal was simple, to keep these two nitwits safe whilst completing my mission, and as a chuunin ranking official – show them what its like to be on a real mission. I hadn’t made it out of the chuunin exams for good looks, and that would be something these two would see firsthand. First thing was first though, I needed to think up of a plan. The two hyuuga brothers before me would salute me and afterwards I would turn to run towards the inner city of the village into the country of water as I thought of my next move.

Although I had crumpled the piece of paper I still knew my areas of weakness. They had three possibly C ranked shinobi, maybe even more lethal, and I was stuck with a crowd who’s chakra pool was as low as mine or even lower. If I wanted to become a true shinobi that would have to be one of the first things to change about me. Hair like a phoenix blazingly jousted outwards towards my back as I rushed through the city passing by the city dwellers. I hadn’t really given much thought to running around the city like I used to in those years before I had been to the exams. Realizing now how fun it was brought back soothing memories of the friends I used to have.

It had crossed my mind that it may have been them who were the missing shinobi, but no, it wasn’t really possible at this point. Most of my comrades had fallen in my very own eyes in the chaos of the war. It was odd that I induced other memories to bring plausible escapes to their deaths, still having hope in the back of my mind that it was all just an illusion. Nonchalantly my gaze stared into the horizon as my body moved like a ghost throughout the streets of mizu no kuni. The sun had only just awakened and I would use this light to my advantage in tracking down the missing ninja. After all ~ It was the first step into becoming a Jounin-Commander or officer.

Their last known location was at a restaurant not too far from the outskirts of mizu no kuni. This meant that they were on the run, possibly, so I had to keep at a good pace if I was going to ever catch up to them. My eyes slid backwards, behind me, as I made loose turns down alleyways as shortcuts towards the village gate; I also had to make sure those two hyuuga were following me. My burgundy optics would meet with theirs seldom as I gazed back – the strength of their dojutsu still amazes me till this day. Its no wonder kids their age had surpassed me at an even younger time. I wasn’t jealous, though, become someday still I’ll become the master of wind and possibly the wielder of a great power.

Although that didn’t seem plausible now it was missions like this that made me think so. If this was going to be the only thing fueling me then I was glad to accept that mental imprisonment. I would stop before the gates of mizu no kuni – looking back to the hyuuga boys before proceeding through them. “GLAD Y’ALL COULD KEEP UP” I said with a smile trying to keep my breathing at a minimal. They were also short of breathe as I kept on pursuing my retort. “THE LAST KNOWN LOCATION IS THE SHI FU RESTAURANT NEAR THE OUTSKIRTS OF MIZU NO KUNI” I’d finally say before taking a moment to catch my breathe.

“UNDERSTOOD RAITORA-SENSEI” one of the brothers said in a calm manner bowing to me in respect. I simply nodded to his gesture and proceeded on to walking to the village guards. “WE’RE ON A MISSION TO HUNT DOWN THOSE TRIO OF MISSING NIN, REPORT THIS TO THE KAGE THAT IF WE ARE NOT BACK BEFORE TOMORROW TO SEND AFTER US” I would say as a final notice. I would motion to the two hyuuga as the gates opened before us – my stride returning back to a swift pace as we edged nearer to our point of investigation. It was going to be a different journey from here on out, not too many people was pleased with the shinobi nations nowadays.

Our feet drug trails from the gates of mizu no kuni for hours on travel. The two brothers had caught up to my position after a good hour of sprinting behind me. While they played in their game of speed my eyes frantically motioned over every detail that we had encountered – one being a distinct trail into another portion of the woods manifesting this part of town. I wouldn’t let it slow me down, however, as it was close to the restaurant. Our strides would come to a restless halt and as we regained our normal breathing patterns stares of the townsfolk would begin to rain down on us like arrows from archers. I didn’t allow it to bother me but the two hyuuga seemed to take offense.

“IT’S NATURAL. THEY DON’T LIKE SHINOBI..” I’d say to re-advert their senses away from becoming angry. After a few minutes or so of standing outside of the restaurant I’d finally get the courage to walk on in past the few strangers who hadn’t stopped staring. My entrance seemed pretty fast compared to the slow-moving atmosphere clouding the room. “I DON’T MEAN TO DISTURB YOU ALL BUT, HAVE YOU SEEN ANY ROGUE NINJA HERE LATELY?” I’d say to portray my image as the protagonist. The last thing I wanted was for all these men to gang up on me and the two genin. If anything I wanted to handle this as

calmly as possible.

Instead of a reply I was given a silent cold stare emanating from every figure in the room. This made me somewhat aggravated but I wouldn’t let it get the best of me – I was an idol now in a superior title, or so I allow myself to believe. “IM HUNTING DOWN THESE ROGUE NINJA. IF THEY HAVE TERORRIZED YOU IN ANY WAY I CAN BE OF SERVICE IF YOU LET ME KNOW..” “WE AIN’T SEEN NO DAMN NINJA. ALL OF YOU FUCKERS CAN GET OUT OF TOWN IF YA ASK ME!’ a sly remark would cut off SEISHIN – something that irritated him even more than when someone was being impolite. All the person would receive was a gaze of sheer aggravation.

“THE NEXT PERSON WHO GIVES ME A SMART REMARK IS GOING TO END UP TASTING THEIR OWN BLOOD. .” I’d say to break the laughter and chaos rambling about in the bar. I had had enough of the disrespect I was receiving – and I wouldn’t tolerate it when I was trying to do them the favor. “ HAVE YOU OR HAVE YOU NOT SEEN ANY MISSING NINJA ACTING ASTRAY?!” I’d say in a final outburst – my tone adverting into one of authority. The room fell silent once more but not from hiding, but from fear. “THEY ROAM ABOUT IN A FOREST NOT TOO FAR FROM HERE. I HEAR THEM THERE EVERY NIGHT” a voice from the back would say.
