It was almost time to head out. Adrianna had just a few more solid duties left to perform, and then she would be ready to embark on her quest.
At their last meeting, Tojo had disclosed to Adrianna that he had volunteered her to perform a high-ranked special mission laid out by the Kazekage himself. Apparently, Suna intelligence had picked up on some rumors about a horrific beast slumbering in stasis out beyond in the Water Country. By the rumors' descriptions of the beast, it sounded suspiciously similar to one of the fabled tailed-beasts, the demonic creatures of immense power that were said to have nearly brought the world to annihilation hundreds of years prior.
It was a tantalizing thought. One that such an animal could exist, two, and most importantly, that the Village would trust Adrianna of all people with the all-important task of investigating the situation. If a village were to capture one of the demons and harness its power, that in itself would change the balance of power on a global scale. The implications were extreme.
Adrianna had protested at first- surely, she was not ready for such a responsibility. Tojo had assured her that the objective was only to scout; no one expected her to actually engage or subdue the beast. The mission was purely reconnaissance. As well, he claimed to feel that she was more than ready to undertake such a high-level scenario. Adrianna appreciated the flattery, but inside she guessed that her prowess as a Shinobi made her viable for the mission more because she was an unknown who wouldn't attract attention, rather than her skills having any sort of real impact on the chances of the mission being a successful one. Adrianna remained less than enthused about the mission- until her old master casually remarked that successful completion of the mission marked one of the last few hurtles before she could take the ANBU exam.
The old bastard had always been good at enticing Adrianna by using her own ambition against her. She resented him slightly for it, but ultimately had to admit that becoming one of the ANBU was what she wanted more than anything else in the world. With that being said, how could she pass up the opportunity to further her progress toward achieving that goal? She couldn't, of course.
And so there she was, preparing for the long trip. The Village treasury would provide the general supplies, like food, water, camping equipment and et cetera. The only equipment Adrianna had to prepare was her personal items- her weapons and her accessories.
As always, her bow had been meticulously taken apart, cleaned, trimmed, and put back together. It was in perfect combat-ready condition. She replaced its string with a fresh one, and made sure to pack spares. She'd made sure to individually wrap ten of her arrows in ninja-grade exploding tags- a perfect combination for on-the-go firepower. She'd exhausted her home supply of explosive molding clay to fill her water-tight pack to the gills with the stuff. Running out of the clay would not be an issue.
She had spent almost an hour hand-crafting a specially designed quiver out of clay. Once it hardened, the quiver would become hard as a rock- perfect to hold arrows in. She'd cut a slab of synthetic black rubber, cut thin holes into its surface, than snugged it into the lid of the quiver, giving the arrows a way to enter the quiver, but preventing them from falling out if she ever ended up upside down or climbing a vertical service. As well, the holes allowed her to partition off her arrows into groups, meaning that she knew where each type of arrow was located in the quiver at all times without needing to look.
The last touch was to unceremoniously untie her headband from its strap on her arm, and dump it on her workbench. Anonymouty would be key there.
With all her gear ready to go, Adrianna slung it around her body and exited the house. It was time to go on adventure...
