[STYLE=margin: 20px 80px 15px 80px; text-align: justify;font-family: arial;font-size: 10px;]Arctic winds soared across my solemn pacing, their wake chilling the little of my slight frame left uncovered, too pervading my ears with buffeting squalls I by now found familiar. I could discern the hardly obscured chatter of children in the distance, environed by the bustling hum of a village filled with life; the sun had just crept its way over the mountains surrounding us – the established source of light bringing about the commencement of their morning commutes, even as I moved to initiate my own. Reminiscent thoughts beset this excursion, filling the air with nostalgia and pleasant memories, as well ponderance of the day and deeds ahead.
It was an odd task, the one assigned to me – perhaps not in the eyes of most, but given my often-expressed partiality toward operating alone, I found it peculiar, and possibly disrespectful. To expound, my latest assembly with Kumogakure's high council, for the most part, had involved a drawn out, pressing lecture on the importance of our village's lowest-ranking shinobi, and my role specifically in aiding their development. Duly, I was partnered with a Genin – one of the more promising candidates from a decent-sized pool I'd been allowed to select – and given the task of sporadically collaborating with him as a coequal, not leader.
I was not angered; the idea was, I'd admit, interesting enough. Constructed for the more talented of his generation, rather than the traditional three Genin, one Jōnin cell, I'd merely act as a higher-ranking peer, allowing for a fairly challenging experience, and much more freedom on his own part.
Coincidentally, if I'd read the sheet of intel correctly, today marked his first B-rank mission – this alone was the origin of my reminiscence. It'd been years ago that my own first had been completed, similarly a Genin at the time, alongside the then-Chūnin, now-Raikage Eiichiro Munashi. It had been the start of a long friendship; I wondered, with the roles flipped, what the end result of our own commissioning would be. Few in the entire village could truly consider me a friend, and I preferred it that way; personally, I found the pros of working alone to outweigh those of working in a team, and anytime I had attempted it, the others had either ended up being a hindrance, obnoxious, untrustworthy, or a combination of the three.
I, however, did understand the importance in getting along with someone I'd have to see and work with on more than one occasion. I'd atleast attempt to be amiable, regardless of a first impression or whether I ended up liking him or not. The thought wandered as both my distance from the destination and time before our assignment would commence dwindled closer to nothing. I approached the entrance to our village, my vision sifting through the small crowd before halting.
Curiosity and anticipation grew with each passing second; I studied the surroundings attentively, looking to view him beyond mere statistics. On arrival, he'd find me near the back of a scattered crowd before the village gates, my slender build donning a hooded, black trench coat, skinny black pants, and tight, foot-contouring tabi's of the same shade. A chokuto was positioned at my waste, a white, horned mask loosely strapped to my neck, reversed so that it rested on the hood of my coat, with the rest of my tools concealed variously along my person. Most noticeable would be my featureless, revenant oculi, which scanned the vicinity as I searched for him.
