BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Dai rolled over to look at the alarm with his eyes half-open. Through his blurred vision, he made out the red glowing numbers that said five o'clock in the morning. Dai muttered in a low grumbling voice, "ten more minutes..." Then he slammed his hand down on the snooze button. Dai rolled back over away from the clock as he pulled his blanket over his head into a linen coocon. As it seemed that he finally started to fade away back to sleep, the thing screamed out a second time. He glared up at the clock with malice and, in a split second, Dai grabbed a kunai from under his pillow then hurled it at the clock, pinning it to the wall next to a window. Sparks jumped from the clock for a bit then the numbers faded as a light smoke came from the device.
“Sigh...”Dai said as he placed his hand over his face, “Not another clock...”
As he pushed himself up from the bed, Dai lingered there for a few seconds before doing some push-ups. After getting in a set of twenty, he swung around on one arm to sitting upright at the bed side. Dai reached over to the side of him to open his fridge and pulled out a cherry soda. After finishing it with one swift motion, He lifted himself up off the bed and threw the can at the wall. It made a hollow clank as it fell into an array of assorted trash on the floor in the counter of the room.
Dai walked over to his counter, stretching his arms out along the way, and pushed various articles of assorted trash to the floor to get to a stack of papers and scrolls. He had grabbed several missions the other day after his graduation to save himself the running back and forth. As he mulled through the papers, Dai came across several things that he just tossed back on the counter. One was a newspaper that got syrup on it which he quickly dropped and the papers scattered. He wiped his fingers on his shirt as he grabbed back up the paper.
In the stack of rubbled documents, he came across a comic book that drew his attention from his search. Pacing around the room, Dai flipped though it, page by page, and absolutely forgot about his mission that had to complete. About a third through the comic book, Dai happened to glance up at the mission details on the counter. “Dang it” were his first words as his eyes grew huge in realization that he was going to be late for catching this kid in the act. He dropped the comic book right there on the floor and did a one-eighty for the bathroom.
Dai took a quick glance at himself to check if he needed to fix himself up any. He slung open his cabinet to have all of his makeup fall out all over him. Everything now was scattered all over the bathroom floor and dropped down to sort through the mess. Grabbing and tossing as he picked out what he needed and the rest went flying behind him. Dropping everything on the vanity counter, He didn't have much time so he grabbed his primer and just slapped it on haphazardly. He dabbed the concealer quickly with light touches of eyeliner that made him look like a raccoon. Smudging on the red eyeshadow, he applied even more smudged up red lipstick.
Once it was done, He looked at it in the mirror and decided that was good enough. Draped over the closed toilet was his hodge podge quilt like robe and his pants that looked like a clown owned them. Grabbing them up, he gave them a quick check for damages which revealed a single tear which he figured could be patched later. The only things left in the cabinet were his mother's obsidian chopsticks. Twirling his hair up to a knot, He set it in place with the chopsticks. Now fully dressed and ready, Dai headed out for the door and grabbed his jacket from the hook on the way.
There was a light mist in the air that morning along with the smell of fallen dew. It was almost a death trap as Dai ran down the catwalk of his apartments and down the stairs where he nearly knocked several people over. Dodging and weaving, he constantly apologized to each person he almost hit. Once on the sidewalk, Dai ran as fast as he could toward the school.
Once he figured he was close enough, Dai climbed up to the top of one of the buildings near by the academy to watch the coming and goings. His stake out lasted about ten or fifteen before the kid showed himself. He was pretty rugged looking like he hadn't taken a bath in a week or hadn't gotten any new clothes in months. There could be many reasons that the kid would be doing this but none of them mattered to Dai. He had a chance with the academy, but he gave that up so whatever hardships he was forced to face was his own fault. He knew he had seen that kid before when he was in the academy himself. He never put much focus in any of his classes and spent them making it hell on others. He wasn't in Dai's grade level so he didn't have to deal with the guy but reputation spoke for itself.
The boy was small for his age but he seemed to have a bit of an arrogant confidence to him that intimidated the other kids. A posse was also starting to form around the kid which could be a bit of a problem, but it was nothing that couldn't be handled. Dai used Henge no Jutsu to morph into a smaller nerdy looking kid to draw their attention. Kids were nothing but predictable because, as he headed that way, the group was on top of him before he got anywhere near the academy.
There was four of them in all: one was a kid with a bowl style haircut and wore clothes three times his normal size. He was annoyingly popping gum as he stared down at Dai. Another one wore a green bandanna with white rimmed sunglasses. He wore a torn jean vest, no shirt, and torn blue jeans that were quite faded. The third was a chubby prick who wore fairly decent clothes as if he was trying to fake the bad boy look, which made him look like an idiot. The ringleader stood at being the smallest of the group but his smell could make a horse gag. He wore a blue t-shirt with the image of a smiley face squinting its eyes and sticking out its tongue. His pants were jeans that had dirt and grass stain all over them along with the occasional rip and hole here and there.
The bowl headed one walked up first toward Dai and pushed him back saying.
"Well lookie here! A pipsqueak we haven't seen yet!"
The fat one caught Dai as he flew backwards by the shoulders to hold him there. "Hey, I got him!"
The other two lackeys came up cracking their knuckles ready to have some fun. As the one with the bandanna went to swing, Dai used Kawarimi no Jutsu leaving a block in the chubby ones' hands and the bandanna kid hit it full force. The boy let out a loud scream as he fell down holding his now bruised hand.
Standing up on a wall looking down on them, Dai yelled out to the group below. "Not what you were expecting, was it?" He lifted an eyebrow then leaped back down among them. As he looked at them, They started to scream and ran from him going straight for the academy.
"At least, They have some sense in them."
Dai turned to look at the only one who had stayed, the small boy. His eyes could of pierced right through him at this point. This kid was certainly persistent, which he could give him at least that.
The boy puffed up his chest and said, " Hey look, It's the patchwork crossdresser! What are you going to do, kiss me to death?"
A group of kids were starting to gather now, so he had end this quickly before it became too big of a spectacle. He was bigger than the kid so as the kid ran at Dai with his fists up, he danced around him, grabbed him by the back of his shirt, and lifted him into the air.
"I have no time for this. So I'm going to give you an option and, if you want to keep your ears, you are going to want to take it. Do you understand me?" This got the kid nodding up and down quickly. "I want you to go back in there and finish whatever you didn't do to pass. I'll talk to the instructors on your behalf so you don't have any trouble getting back in. You okay with that?"
Dai lifted an eyebrow and gave the boy a glare and he started nodding in agreement. Dai, satisfied with the result, turned and dropped the boy in front of the academy. He pointed toward the door and the boy wasted no time going inside. Dai followed in after him and looked for one of the instructors, which didn't take long.
A male instructor was turning corner when he was surprised by Dai. After realizing who it was, the instructor asked him, " What are you doing here, Dai? Didn't you graduate a few days ago?"
"I'm actually on a mission at the mission at the moment." Dai turned to see the boy and motioned him to come over which he did without trouble. "I know he dropped out but I was wanting to see if you would be willing to give him a second chance if you could?"
The instructor seemed to contemplate the decision before he finally said, "I don't see why not, but if he drops out again I'm not going to be able to do this again."
Dai looked over at him and he shrunk two sizes. "I think he understands that, plus I'm going to be making sure he going through with it." The instructor looked convinced as he told the kid to get to class.
Dai pulled out the scroll from his sleeve and read the next mission. "Well, One down and three more to go for today. But first though, it's lunchtime and that grill is calling my name!"
