INVESTIGATE

DESCRIPTION: It’s very much assumed that people do all kinds of things in their lives, and for many that thing is drugs and other illegal substances. Scandals about teenagers showing such worrisome behaviour has spiked somewhat in the village over the past few years, and because of that several sets of parents in the village are concerned about their children- They’ve changed their image, had new haircuts, begun hanging around with shady people and completely turned in to different people, and to keep tabs on them they’ve asked for people to keep a close eye on their sons and daughters and report back to them exactly what they’ve been doing and with whom. Of course- This change may be because of stress at home, or simply a new outlook on life, but some parents are sure that drugs are behind all of it..
OBJECTIVE: Spy on their children and report back to the parents what dubious behaviour they showed.. if any.
PAY: 1,000 Ryo and 200 EXP.

Kasumi's current mission was simple in theory, but could possibly get a little tricky for her in reality. The kunoichi was assigned to locate and follow around a boy that was only a year younger than she herself was. His name was Kashi, and he came from an upbringing that wasn't one of the greatest. Brought up just inside of Kusa's gates in a place where crime, poverty and drugs were relatively notorious, his parents had begun to worry about what he was doing when he wasn't at home. They scraped together a small amount of money on their own and put up a mission; to spy on Kashi and see what he was doing.

The boy was too old to be kept track of by his parents, but too young in their eyes to be left to roam freely. All Kasumi had to do was find him and follow him around for a little bit to see what was going on. She was to see if he was doing anything illegal and then report her findings to be passed on to the family. Whether he was doing anything wrong or not was not her concern for the mission, and so it was not her job to intervene. Knowing herself incredibly well though, she knew it would be difficult to keep from smacking him around and giving him a speech if she did find that he was in with the wrong crowd.

To start the mission, she waited just outside of the house he lived in with his parents, pretending to be waiting for somebody to meet her. As soon as he exited the house, the mission had begun, and she was on his tail. She made sure to keep a relatively far distance from him. With her headband being a clear sign of her line of work, it would be too easy to mess something up and be forced to scrub the assignment -- especially if he truly was involved with the wrong people and doing the wrong types of thing.

He walked through the streets and led her into the center of the village, making it difficult for her to keep her eyes trained on him. With so many people in one place, it was easy to lose track of a person, and even accidentally start following someone entirely different. It appeared to Kasumi that people didn't really dress very differently from one another, though she knew not the reason.

The tail lasted for about half an hour before she actually did managed to lose track of him, and when his light brown hair had disappeared from her line of sight, her heart skipped a beat and elicited the feeling of panic deep in her chest. Her one objective for that particular moment was to not lose him, and that was all she had managed to do. With so many people, she knew it wasn't going to be possible to find him by walking and searching in the crowd, so she did the only thing she could think of; she scaled the side of a small building and climbed to the top.

Unfortunately, the building she had chosen to travel up wasn't as large as she had hoped it would be. However, there were several buildings around it that were larger, and these buildings "lead" to buildings that were a great deal larger than the one she found herself atop. Using her physical prowess, it was easy as one, two, three for her to find her way to the tallest building around. What types of people found themselves inside it and what types of tasks were carried out from it were unknown to her, but it served as a pretty good vantage point for her current task. She could see almost the entire village.

She could also see all the people, though they were nothing more than specs on the ground. She would need to use a pair of binoculars to search for Kashi and find out where he was, and luckily, she had just such an item in her satchel. Her hand slid beneath the flap and into the contents, touching upon the binoculars rather quickly. With a single, quick movement they lenses were affixed to her eyes and she was staring straight at the ground, able to make out the features of everyone that walked to and fro on the ground.

Her search began at that moment, and she hoped to find Kashi as quickly as possible. With so many people to look over and everybody moving at a quick pace, she felt like it might take her a little while to find him. The buildings around that part of the village were rather nice and clean, so Kasumi didn't think it was possible for there to be anything devious or disreputable going on, so she had hope that maybe Kashi was the good kid that his parents hoped he was, and not into drugs or crime, or even worse, part of the gang she had just located. If he was, then he was probably already there, and he would probably be busted along with the rest of its members later that night when she reported their location.

After fifteen minutes of searching though, Kasumi laid her eyes on his light brown hair, cut short to the point that she could see his face much better than at the onset of the mission. It seemed to her that he had simply gotten a haircut, and that that would be all he would be doing that day. When he started to walk away from the direction that one would normally travel to get to his home, however, her thoughts quickly changed and she knew he was up to something else. She stowed the binoculars and descended the building quickly and quietly, never taking her eyes off of his freshly snipped hair for more than a second. She was going to begin following him again, and find out once and for all where he was going.

Binoculars Used

As soon as the red haired woman's feet touched down on the soil, her blue eyes were darted forward in the direction that Kashi had been walking. She knew soon enough what area of the village he was going to, and as she skimmed the top of her mind for things that might be less than moral, she couldn't think of anything there that qualified as such, or fell into any category near that of illegal or immoral. It gave her a spark of hope that she would be able to report good news, and that his parents wouldn't need to worry too much about his present activities, or his future either.

She watched as he walked into a small building, white with brown trim and a red sign that read "Ishi's Construction." It struck her as odd, seeing as she had expected to find that he was involved in drugs, alcohol, or something else that was prohibited to someone his age. As Kasumi looked through the window, however, it appeared that he was looking for a job. He handed an older woman several pieces of paper out of his bag, and she returned several different papers. Kashi took them to a table and started writing what the kunoichi assumed was his signature and maybe his initials, and then shook hands with the old woman before leaving the shop with a smile.

A happiness found it's way into Kasumi's heart, and a smile onto her face. Though he had been born with nothing and he and his family clearly struggled, he had been able to get out of all the temptation and peer pressure that surely existed in the place where he lived, and find a job to make money and probably help himself and maybe even his family. Whether he had been into doing the wrong things with the wrong people before or not, Kasumi now knew what she was going to report back to the Atrium, and what his parents would hear about.

Kashi was a good kid with a good head on his shoulders, and he was trying to make a place for himself in the cruel world that they all inhabited. Though he had come from nothing and likely never had a fair shot at anything in his entire life, he had fought his way out and beat the odds to find what looked like a good job that would be able to pull him further out of the depths from which he came. As Kasumi began to make her way back to the Atrium, she found herself feeling a new sense of hope and a new sense of purpose. Perhaos as a shinobi of the Hidden Grass, she could do more than just go on missions and get stronger. Maybe she could do something for somebody.
