I listened to her diligently as she began to explain an encounter with a medical kunoichi when she was little. She'd seen a headband, apparently, and had been pondering whether this woman was from the very village I had just mentioned. Before I could acknowledge this, however, there was one thing I absolutely needed to say. "You went looking for a christmas tree? By yourself?" I inquired, raising my head slightly to make eye contact with her, an eyebrow raised in expectancy. Had I known back then, I would have reprimanded her! Surely, her parents had not given her permission for such a dangerous thing. A little girl, after all, should not be alone in the woods of Kaminari no Kuni-- period. That was too much of a risk. And with a sprained ankle!
Had that "mysterious" woman who had approached her then been a criminal, or a slave trader, I probably wouldn't be talking to Yukiko now. "You really shouldn't have." I continued, dropping my head back on the pillow with a sigh. I worried for her, even now. If anything, this just proved the fact that I wouldn't be able to protect her always. To keep my eye on her, and ensure that she didn't put her life in risk. I hoped that she understood that her life wasn't her own now. She was a part of her parents, a part of her siblings, a part of me. And if anything had happened to her, I would have been devastated. She would never know this, but I'd be a completely different person without her. Nothing more than a lost soul. A killer. A person that I never wanted to be again.
"Anyways," I spoke, closing my eyes. "The Kusagakure symbol depicts sharp grass, in the form of an extended 'M'. Was that the symbol that you saw?" I asked. Once she replied, I'd continue. "And if this medic you met had milky white skin, and bright blue eyes, in addition to flowing blonde hair... I'd wager that she was, in fact, Blanche. She'd been fairly recognizable, especially because of her hair. But I suppose we can't be entirely sure, hm? Seeing as how she didn't give you a name." Then, something struck me. Yukiko had been a child then, gullible and innocent, for the most part. The perfect target for someone-- a shinobi-- to gather information from. Perhaps this woman had been attempting to infiltrate Kumogakure, under the guise of a Kusagakure kunoichi? "... Did you give her yours? Or anyone elses, for that matter?"
I was intrigued to find out everything I could about this little incident, it could be heard in my tone of voice. While I was frustrated at a 'Yukiko' that did not exist anymore (for putting her life at risk like that), I needed to know whether this strange woman she had met had been an enemy or not. Perhaps, she'd been connected to the recent death of Eiichiro in some way. Although, I sincerely hoped not. As that would place a good portion of blame on my little sister. So I kept myself thinking, hoping that it was Blanche, and then contemplating how silly a coincedence this entire thing would be. For Blanche to have simply stumbled across Yukiko all these years ago, the two of them connected to my story in more ways than one. If it had been her, had she asked for me?
