CHAPTER 2:


Hikaru looked out the opening of her room and could see the morning sun off in the horizon. Off in the corner, her bags were packed. she was going on a trip. The girl's saddened eyes quivered as she stared off into the country side. In a few hours she'd have a new home. Sighing she rest her head on the sill of the opening. she only had one thing on her mind.

Hikaru-san…

Downstairs was Dr. Feline Hellion. she was in the living room with another woman. A person she knew closely apparently.

“Are you sure you’re ok with looking after the house?” Dr. Hellion asked.

The woman nodded. “Gentou was a very good friend of mine. I would be more than happy to look after the home and land she and her grandson took such great care of.”

Dr. Hellion nodded. “I’m counting on you.”

They looked up the stairs. The woman with Dr. Hellion frowned.

“Is she going to be ok?” asked the woman.

Dr. Hellion nodded. "she needs time. I’ll have to be there for her as much as she needs.”

The woman nodded again. With that, Dr. Hellion began her way up the stairs. Hikaru was still gazing upon the landscape from the opening when her authority walked in and tapped on the open door loud enough for Hikaru to hear. Hikaru turned around to her authority, still very much saddened. Dr. Hellion was sad to see her assistant so glum. she looked at her assistant with heavy eyes, not wanting to look at Hikaru’s saddened face. Dr. Hellion took a deep breath and nodded.

“Hikaru, it’s time…”

Hikaru sniffled a little, holding back tears as she uttered, “Oto-sama.”

They were then seen walking down the stairs together, Dr. Hellion holding Hikaru’s bags.

[Riku]

They were headed for the front door when the new caretaker stopped them. she walked over to Hikaru and got down on one knee.

“Hikaru, words cannot describe how much pain I feel for you and your authority for you loss. You grandmother was a great woman and I’m going to miss her too. That’s why I’m going to make sure this house is maintained. You’ll be able to come home anytime you like. Ok?”

Hikaru nodded silently. But then out of nowhere she hugged the woman allowing her sobbing to let go.

“Arigatou gosaimasu, Miss…”

“Safe travels, Hikaru.”

They exited the house and headed toward her authority’s carriage. mrs. Raiku stayed behind. Hikaru was about to reach the carriage when she heard a person yell her name. Hikaru turned around in the direction of the voice along with Dr. Hellion. They both saw a little girl running toward them. She looked sad as well. She ran up quickly and called Hikaru again.

“Hikaru, don’t go!”

Hikaru closed her eyes. she took a deep breath, opened them and let her tears dry.

“I’ll miss you,” she said.

“I’ll miss you too.”

Hikaru began backing away. she turned to the open carriage door that her authority had for her and quickly climbed inside, not wanting Shirai to see her crying. But as she was getting in, one of her tears hit the ground for Shirai to see. She looked up, seeing Hikaru’s face as she peered through the glass. The carriage was started and now was slowly pulling away. Shirai helplessly watched as her childhood friend left her behind. Hikaru, who was looking back at first now turned away with her eyes tightly shut.

Good-bye…Shirai…

Dr. Hellion could see the sadness in Hikaru’s expression. she focused hard on the road ahead and tried not to think about it.

[Riku]

Several hours later of driving, their carriage crossed the village limits. Hikaru had fallen asleep. It was the most peaceful she'd been all day. Dr. Hellion hated to wake her. But knew she had to. she nudged Hikaru. Hikaru stirred from her sleep and saw village background. she was here, in Town. Hikaru still didn’t speak. she yawned and leaned back in the chair.

Dr. Hellion nodded. It wasn’t too long before Hikaru reached her new home; an apartment building Dr. Hellion had been living in for some time now. Hikaru came here a few times during her visits to the city. Now it would be her home. Dr. Hellion parked the carriage and got to help Hikaru with her things. It was a very quiet event. Hikaru was quiet the entire time they unloaded the carriage. she went upstairs into the apartment with her authority.

Hikaru took her bags straight to her room. she knew where it was. It was a guest room. When she opened the door, Hikaru found that the room had been rearranged to be somewhat like her old room. she appeared surprised by it at first. Then Dr. Hellion came up behind her.

“I tried hard to make it look like your old room, Hikaru but there were just some things I couldn’t do.”Hikaru nodded.

She entered the room and dropped her bags by the bed. she jumped onto the bed and laid back. Clearly she wanted to be alone. Dr. Hellion simply took the hint and left the room, closing the door. she sat down in the living room and silently thought about all that had gone on. Dr. Hellion scowled and then grimaced.

Hmm… she thought.

[Riku]

Her mind rolled back through all the dangers they had experienced with this group, from the day they first kidnapped Dr. Hellion forcing Hikaru to accept her powers to the final battle in which Hikaru defeated them. That was the day that woman was killed.

TRIGGER FLASHBACK

To defeat Thieves at age 9, she's an amazing girl. But even so, she still is just a girl.

Dr. Hellion looked back to Hikaru’s room. Inside, Hikaru was looking at a picture of her grandmother and her. her mind drifted.
Hikaru gazed upon the vast space that was her farm yard. Bright morning, Hikaru appeared eager to go out and run across the dirt. But a voice stopped her.

“Hikaru?”

Hikaru turned to see her grandmother approaching. she smiled and eagerly gave her attention to her.

“Hikaru-san!”

“Hikaru, you didn’t forget we have chores right?”

He shook her head. “I remember!”

“Hop to it then boy!”

She pointed to a shovel which she would use to turn the ground for planting. she ran over to the shovel, which was far taller than she was. she picked it up and bowed properly. she saw her grandmother smile warmly before running off to turn the land as she asked her to. She watched her eagerly perform her duties without complaint. She was aware not many children these days did as they were told so obedient and lovingly. She found herself surprised at how well she appeared to be handling the task, only to then be reminded of her assistant, Felecia.

"Felecia, she's amazing. Like you…” she uttered.
Hikaru bolted out of the door to head off for school.
“Hikaru-san, ittekimasu!”
“Hikaru hold your horses!”
She stopped. “Hikaru-san? I don’t wanna be late.”
Her grandmother came to the front door and waved her back over.

[Riku]

“Hikaru, get back here and give your grandmother a hug! It’s rude to leave so abruptly!”
Hikaru chuckled and gave a cheeky smile as she rubbed the back of her head. she was so eager she had forgotten to properly bid farewell. Hikaru ran back to her grandmother and gave her a tight hug.

“I love you Hikaru! Now be good in school.”
Hikaru kissed her grandmother on the cheek then stepped back and bowed.
“Hai! Ittekimasu!”
Hikaru then turned and ran off to get to school. her grandmother watched her leave and sighed. “That girl has so much energy. I wish she'd speak English more too!”

Hikaru and her grandmother stood before a bountiful land of crops. It was time to pick some for dinner. Hikaru aimed to start with the corn. As she was reaching, her grandmother’s hand took hold of her own, stopping her.
“Hikaru, you know the rules. We thank the land before we take from it.”

Hikaru appeared confused but she did remember that was the rule. She appeared serious.
“Whenever the land gives to us, we must be thankful for what it gives. Because if we don’t it may stop giving it.”
Hikaru stopped her confusion and looked the stalks of corn. she sat down on the ground with her hands pressed together and bowed her head.
“Ittadakimasu! We are grateful for what you give us!”

Her grandmother nodded and allowed Hikaru to stand up again as she too thanked the land for the food. She smiled at Hikaru.
“NOW we can pick out for dinner.”
Hikaru was quick to start picking cobs of corn.
"Hikaru, not too many! It’s just us eating tonight.”

“Ah, hai!”

END FLASHBACK

Hikaru was in tears again.
She taught me everything I know. Even with these powers, I couldn’t…

[Riku]

Her mind flashed through the moment Zeta had killed her grandmother. she couldn’t think about it without being horrified. she rolled over on her stomach and began crying into her pillow without restrained. Meanwhile, her authority stood outside the door, also saddened.
“Hikaru…”

The next day, Hikaru had been brought to the park by her authority in hopes a bit of fresh air would help her. But her authority had to go to work so Hikaru was there by herself. she didn’t feel like running around at all. Instead she sat under a tree and stared at the grass. As she was doing so, a pair walked up to her.

“Hey! You’re new around here aren’t ya? What are you doing sittin under our tree?”
Hikaru looked up. It was two boys no more aged than 13 staring at her with an angry expression on their faces. Hikaru said nothing and simply went back to staring at the grass. One of the two boys grew angrier.

“Ey kid! I’m talkin to ya! This is our tree!”
Hikaru looked up at the girl again and glared. “Nandemoii…” she said before going back to staring at the grass.
“What? Kid do you speak English!?”
While they were talking, one of the kids with a soccer ball looked over and frowned. The girl that was talking to Hikaru suddenly grabbed her by the shirt and pulled her.

“Listen you twerp! Stop ignoring me!”
Hikaru just looked into the angry eyes of the girl. “Nani wo shiteru no ka?”
The girl got angry and sent her fist right into Hikaru’s face knocking her backwards onto the dirt. The girl watching was horrified.
“Griffon, what are you doing?”

“Shut up, Chelc. This kid pissed me off.”
Hikaru laid on the ground refusing to move. Hikarusan, gomen nasai. she thought.

[Riku]

Griffon walked over to Hikaru and pulled her up by her hair. Hikaru started grunting in pain but refused to move. “Now you little shit, speak English now!” Hikaru remained silent. So Griffon pulled her fist back again. “Ok have it your way!” As she was about to throw the punch, a whistling noise came from behind. It was the sound of a ball being flung across the air. It smacked Griffon across the back of the head forcing her to drop Hikaru. The ball rolled back to the person who threw it; the girl who had been watching.

“I swear, Griffon, you’ve reached a brand new low! I’d kick you back up to level, but these are brand new shoes.”Griffon and Chance turned to the girl that just rescued Hikaru. Griffon was about to move when the girl launched the ball with kick, sending it into Griffon’s face. The moment Chance saw this happen, she took off. The girl walked up to Griffon and picked up her ball.

“Now, you should go find someplace else to play, before I really decide to practice with my soccer ball.” Griffon stood up and growled. “This isn’t over!” He then walked off rubbing her nose. The girl then turned to Hikaru, who was finally standing up. she went over to Hikaru and shoved her. “What the hell kid? Why did you just let her do that?”

Hikaru looked at the girl for a moment. she sighed and looked away. “Arigato…”
He then started walking. That’s when the girl shouted.
“Hold your horses! Where do you think you’re going?”
Hikaru stopped and appeared shocked. she turned around and looked at the girl. her eyes quivered as she then saw her grandmother instead.

“It’s rude to walk away from a stranger who did something nice for you without properly thanking them.” “Hikarusan…” Hikaru said. “What?”

[Riku]

Hikaru walked back up to the girl again. “I’m…sorry! Thank you for helping.” “Ah she does speak English. What’s your name, kid? I’m Lillian.”
“Lillian, I am Hikaru.”
“Hm… Hikaru eh? Cool. Nice to become acquainted with you kid. You should toughen up. Don’t need to see you being punched around all the time.”

Hikaru had a hard time holding it back, but she had a grin on her face. Lillian shook her head and sighed.
“Eh you still got the ‘lost sheep’ look on your face. You gotta be new in town. Come on, I’ll show ya around. You like ice cream?”
Hikaru nodded, “Yeah.”
“Come on, I have a feeling you could use a triple scoop.”
Lilian led the way with Hikaru following. As she did, her mind drifted again.

Hikaru was finished taking out trash and was getting ready to start sweeping the front of the house. As she was doing so, her grandmother called her over to her.
“Hikaru, come sit down for a minute. You work so hard.”
“Hai.”
Hikaru came over and took the chair next hers, jumping onto it as she was too short.
“It’s such a lovely afternoon isn’t it, Hikaru?”
“Yes, it’s really nice, Hikarusan!”
“These are the days given to us in reward for all our hard work. Did you know that Hikaru?”
Hikaru looked confused. “Really?”

“Oh yes, nothing is by chance. The laws of nature are all around us and so they provide the way when we need it most. It also provides us with things we never expect, but somehow understand why they’re there. There will be many times where this occurs.”
“How will I know when those times are coming?”
“You don’t, Hikaru. But when they do happen, there’s a feeling in your heart that lets you know, this happened for a reason.”

[Riku]

Hikaru just nodded and smiled. Hikaru had her eyes focused on Lillian. she looked over to the horizon now and saw what appeared to be a faint image of her grandmother smiling at her. Tears were rolling down her cheeks now. “Kid, why are you crying?” Lillian asked. Hikaru turned and noticed that Lillian was now looking at her. she wiped her eyes and took a deep breath and shrugged.

“Hm? So weird kid…” Hikaru smiled back at her grandmother’s silhouette suddenly realizing Lillian had been brought to her for a specific reason. Arigatou, Hikarusan!
Hikaru stepped through door of the apartment using a set of extra keys given to her by her authority. When she walked through the door, she saw her authority in the living room with a pile of papers. “Hikaru, you’re home. I expected you to be back sooner.”

Hikaru looked apologetic. “Gomen nasai! I was taken for ice cream.” “Ice Cream, taken? By who?” asked Dr. Hellion. “A kid named, Lillian.” She’s speaking English and seems to have made a new friend. she's coming along a bit better than I hoped. Hikaru walked further into the apartment and was heading for her room when Dr. Hellion noticed something and stopped her.

“Hikaru, is that a bruise on your face?” she asked. Hikaru rubbed the spot on her face where Griffon had punched her. Dr. Hellion immediately walked over to her. “Who did that to you?” Hikaru nodded. “Daijoubou. Lillian helped me take care of it.” “This is serious, Hikaru. You can’t be dealing with bullies.” “But I am! And I have! I’ll be fine, Otosama! If I need help I know how to ask for it!”

Hikaru turned away and stormed off to her room, shutting the door.

[Riku]

Dr. Hellion sighed. she'd come to the harsh conclusion that with all the time apart from her assistant, Feline had appeared to have forgotten how to properly deal with a child.
“Mom, I bet you’d know how to handle this,” she sighed as she wondered about her mother. Hikaru regressed to laying on her bed with the picture of her and her grandmother resting in her arms against her chest as she stared at the ceiling. Hikaru’s body felt shut down as she laid there, depressed as it were.

As she drifted, she nearly fell asleep but was jolted back into consciousness when she heard some sort of a scream outside her opening. Confused, she went looking out the opening. That’s when she saw it. The screaming belonged to a woman who was running down the street. Hikaru looked confused at first until she saw a person chasing behind with what appeared to be a knife.

Town was still a crime filled cesspool even without Thieves around. It angered her and her instincts were quick to flush her with urges to act. she looked over to the dresser. What she saw there was her headband and two wristbands; the ones that allowed her confidence. she went to reach for them and hesitated, with mental images of her grandmother’s death flashing in her head.

If I couldn’t protect her…how can I… She heard the screams again but fainter this time as they had managed to get a distance away. Hikaru sighed and shook her head. she grabbed them off the top of the dresser after that. Meanwhile the woman who was being chased managed to make the classic mistake of running into a dead end alley.

“It was a simple concept lady. Fork over the bag and keep quiet! But you had to run didn’t you? You just complicated things.”

[Riku]

She started walking toward the terror-stricken female wielding her knife for her to see. She started shake badly as she drew closer. “Guess I’ll have to make this messy for me.”
The woman was unable to hold it in as she drew with in arms reach and screamed as loud as she could. But it was at that moment a bright flash went off in the alley getting both of their attention. “What the hell?”

The woman looked over to the edge of the alley to see a short framed shadow standing there. she stepped a bit forward to reveal herself. It was Hikaru with a sly grin on her face. she had her hair slicked backwards with a pair of sunglasses on her head. she was wearing a brown jacket, blue shirt, jeans and sneakers while holding a instead of expensive device.
“What the hell is this girl saying!?”

Hikaru’s grin faded and she glared at the woman. “I can’t forgive cowards like you!” Hikaru declared. “You just signed your death certificate!” Hikaru scratched her head and looked at her device. “I was unaware devices could sign things.”

Hikaru sighed as the woman rushed her with the knife. Thinking speedy, she jumped, took the device by the hanging strap and swung right. she cleanly smacked the woman across the face with the device and knocked her into some trash cans. The woman was stricken at what she saw. Hikaru landed on the ground with both feet. Hikaru looked over to the woman at that moment.

“Ah?” she replied. She nodded having gotten her answer without her actually saying anything. The woman was now standing up again and shaking the hit off. “Grr! You! You’re not a normal photographer are you?” “I’m afraid not! I am the super crime scoop investigator, Scoop Hikaru!

[Riku]

"I just got your entire attempt on film! And speaking of film…” Hikaru reached into her pocket and pulled out some film on a roll. she took the roll of film by the edge and launched it at her foe. The film tightly wrapped itself around the woman. “Consider yourself ‘captured’!” Suddenly Hikaru heard the sound of sirens off in the distance. she looked back and could tell police officers were coming. Hikaru took a look at the woman, dropped the film and saluted her.

“I leave the rest to you!” She jumped off into the shadows just as police arrived. They were making their way into the alley to assess the scene. Meanwhile she just stared up into the sky. Thank you, Scoop Hikaru, whoever you are.

Chapter 3:

An office near downtown was where a certain detective was residing at this current time. she was looking through articles about the city’s Thieves crimes down to absolute 0. As she read it she laid back in her chair and sighed. This detective was Hikaru. With Thieves gone the bulk of her investigation work was gone. she was going to have to find something soon if she wanted to make the cut. But so far nothing had emerged. she decided to turn on the TV. When she did, she found herself on a news channel.

‘And now it seems like the village may have itself a vigilante on the streets. Just earlier today a woman was saved from a woman with a knife by a mysterious young woman wielding a device. The would-be victim said she came to her rescue in a timely fashion.’ Hikaru was surprised to see this and stuck to the channel. The woman in question came on screen to give commentary.

[Riku]

“It was amazing. she knocked the girl down with a single hit using her device. Called herself Scoop Hikaru and then before I could thank her, she vanished!” Hikaru recognized name and sighed. “Gintou!” Instantly grabbing her coat, Hikaru rushed out to her carriage and decided to hit the road. Gintou, why have you returned? Her carriage raced down the street, seeking to get to her destination as quickly as she could.

Hikaru sat down to dinner with her authority. A large bowl of beef ramen sat in front of him; a large bowl for her authority as well. Hikaru sighed. Back in Home, she and her grandmother would go pick the Iron Country's and fruits that they would use for dinner. Ramen was a foreign dish to her. she looked at it with an unsure expression. Dr. Hellion was looking at her assistant also uncertain.

“Try to eat something, my assistant.” Hikaru stared at the bowl quietly. The more she stared at it, the sadder she appeared to become. Finally she sighed and turned away. she hopped off the chair. “Otosama, I’m not very hungry right now.”

Hikaru walked back to her room, leaving her authority there. Dr. Hellion could only sigh as she tried to finish her own dinner. Hikaru turned the light on in her room and walked over to her desk. Again she looked at a picture of her grandmother, face filled in sadness. she laid her chin on the desk as she sat there at the desk.

“Hikarusan...” she whispered. Dr. Hellion had finished dinner and was in the kitchen cleaning up when her phone began to ring. she looked over to the cordless phone and picked it up. she answered it.
“Hello...”
“How’s she holding up?” came the voice.
“Detective?”

[Riku]

Hikaru was on the phone with Dr. Hellion now. The Dr. sighed and shook her head. “I can’t get her to eat or anything. she's completely heartbroken,” Dr. Hellion answered. “I can’t blame her. she loved her grandmother very much. Anyway, listen I have news for you. I think Thieves might still be lingering about.” Dr. Hellion was surprised to hear that and sighed. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, I was watching the news. Hikaru. was seen in the village earlier." Dr. Hiellion was surprised again. she looked back at the room Hikaru was in. "What?” “Yes, she saved a woman from an assailant. Hikaru. once told me she shows up wherever Thieves makes trouble. So perhaps the woman was attacked by Thieves!” “Impossible! Thieves was defeated by Hikaru.”

“I can’t imagine why she'd show up again in the village then,” said Hikaru. “I understand! I’ll be on my guard. Thank you.” She hung up her call with Hikaru and then looked over to Hikaru’s room. As Hikaru was in there sulking, Dr. Hellion entered and looked at her daughter. “Hikaru, you saved a person earlier?” Hikaru sighed and looked to her authority. “How do you know that?”

“Hikaru called. she said it was on the news. I need to know! Was it Thieves?” Hikaru shrugged and laid her chin on the desk again. “Thieves is dead. The woman I saved was being attacked by a street mugger.” “Why did you not tell me?” “Because I did not feel the need to. I did not even want to save her.”

Dr. Hellion was surprised by her assistant's words and sighed angrily. “Then why did you?” “Because as much as hurts knowing I was unable to protect Hikarusan, I would be even more hurt knowing I didn’t protect a person else’s family member!”

[Riku]

Hikaru looked at her authority with tears rolling down her cheeks. she then walked over to her bed, laying down on it with her back to her authority. “Nobody else deserves to know the pain that I know! That is why I did it!” “But Hikaru, don’t you understand! A person already does! Me! I feel that pain!” Hikaru’s eyes quivered as she held them widened. Hikaru looked over to her authority. she now had tears forming in her own eyes.

“Your grandmother is my mother! I love her too! Hikaru. or Hikaru, you’re still my son! So any pain that you feel, is pain that I experience as well.” “I see. So Hikaru. caused you pain as well by failing to save her...” He laid back down and on her pillow, allowing the tears to roll onto it as she sobbed. “You entrusted me this strength and I was unable to use it to save her. I don’t deserve it! I’m not the hero I should be!”

“Hikaru...” Hikaru shut her eyes and started to cry again. “I can’t be anyone’s light! I could never be Hikaru. again!” Dr. Hellion’s anger took hold of her and she walked over to her assistant, forcibly rolling her over so she could look into the girl's eyes. she still had tears. “Stop saying such stupid things! Don’t you think that if you really didn’t deserve that power I would take it from you.

You could never cause me pain! You are my joy! That’s why I left you with her; to keep you safe! I knew that while you were in Home you could experience joy! As such seeing your joy gave me my own! You have all my love, son! And you always will!”

Hikaru was speechless staring into the face of her authority.
