Perceptive – Preferring to analyze before acting, he is slow to initiate combat, but when he counters an opponent you can be sure it was with immense calculation.
Humble – Though confident he will one day become a revered samurai, he acknowledges his current inferiority to the greater samurai of this era and hopes to appease them with his progress.
Ambitious – A goal without a plan is just a dream and Kazuya is too stubborn to give up without reaching his goals. His desire to obtain legendary status is a testament to his instinct to achieve.
Merciful – Though this age calls for bloodshed, Kazuya doesn’t believe in meaningless slaughter when lives can be better spent paying penance or providing services that would otherwise be rendered inaccessible through death penalties.
[/ul]Negative Traits:
Unsociable – Ideally he refrains from interfering in political and social affairs, instead keeping to his studies of martial arts in order to become a rounded combatant and a formidable candidate for the title of Shogun, a title he desperately hopes to earn but is fearful he may never achieve.
Curious – Contrary to his claim that curiosity is a good thing, it is true that being too curious has its drawbacks and because of this, he unknowingly allows himself to let his admirable traits become bad habits. He simply tries to stick his nose in places it probably shouldn’t be in.
Untidy – Kazuya has earned quite the reputation for being a messy person. Instead of organizing his living quarters as well as his training regimen, he carelessly places objects in places of convenience. This isn’t to say he loses things easily—he remembers where he puts everything he owns—his room is just an utter mess.
Timid – Tying in to his unsociable nature, Kazuya can be quite shy and bashful in public, admiring tranquil solitude more than the noisy company of people. This isn’t to say he cannot assert himself, but that he is uncomfortable in the limelight.

Appearance: Kazuya maintains an above average physique that would seem built more for speed than strength, albeit quite toned from years of practice with his bokuto and tempered from the swift and brutal strikes of his sparring rivals. Rigid and sturdy like the terrain surrounding him, he is more than capable of intense labor. His skin is majorly unblemished and quite lightly colored even considering the climate’s effect on most people. Adorned with coal black eyes--although it is often insisted that they have a faint red hue to them--with matching black hair that is also mistaken to be deep brown in color on occasion.
The hair itself is faintly wavy and his ears are hidden from view by his locks, which hang as low as his neck. His chin is very sharp and pronounced, his lips curved into a subtle frown that pairs with his thin, sharp brows to form an innately disappointed expression. His shoulders slouch and his nose is small and dainty. Kazuya’s hands are at first glance petite, but this is best as it allows his fingers to make deft and delicate movements that brutishly large hands cannot fathom to mimic.
Abandoning any desire to dress fancifully to impress others, Kazuya has reduced his wardrobe to plain color garments, typically black, some with hoods attached and tattered around the edges, while others are wrinkled but otherwise undamaged. The entirety of his wardrobe consists of free-fitting sleeves and leggings in order to permit unrestricted movement. Covering his feet are nothing but socks and traditional sandals. Hanging against his left hip is his katana, which he keeps with him most always in an effort to remind himself to be constantly vigilant of his surroundings, as carrying a weapon helps to keep him concentrated on what’s important.

Childhood for samurai can be inconveniently stressful and harsh, largely in response to the immense expectations placed on the children. Expected to compete among eachother to determine a sort of caste or ranking system, as well as being required to develop combat skills to thwart off opposing nations—primarily the shinobi, who were the only formidable opponents the samurai had besides themselves—as soon as possible. The sheer pressure on some children was enough to drive them mad or into a pit of depression that, in either case, usually claimed their life.
In order to keep his mind off of such dreadful truths, Kazuya took an interest in reading and studying ancient writings that related to the samurai legends in order to keep his eyes on the prize and familiarize himself with the lore of his people. Some of the best stories were of nameless samurai whose origins were unknown and yet they were able to perform feats beyond that of any recognized samurai to date. Such stories inspired him to train harder and to perfect his technique.
Upon reaching adulthood he was finally able to be formally inducted into the ranks of the samurai, however this was an experience that Kazuya was reluctant to speak of afterward. Though he was grateful for having been accepted among their ranks, he felt he was mistreated and undervalued by his comrades and that they didn’t truthfully accept him as part of their organization. He felt more like a beast of burden sent to fetch them what they demanded, whether the task was realistic or an utter impracticality.
Provoked by his mistreatment, he began to develop more considerable abilities in order to prove his worth and capability. After a month’s time he decided to challenge one of the samurai who was of equal formal standing and yet had made to order him around just as the rest did. Though they were prohibited from raising their katana to one another, they were allowed to spar against eachother using bokuto. After a few short-lived flurries from his opponent’s weapon, Kazuya was able to disarm the male with a numbing strike to the left shoulder which seemed to produce a muffled crack. Some had scolded him for his offense, but such prowess is to be nurtured in their society, and so Kazuya was able to free himself from the torment of mistreatment.
It has been three months since Kazuya had claimed victory in his first tournament, and he looks forward to being given the chance to prove himself an Adept Samurai to those ranking higher than him in the Land of Iron’s military.

Tsukesagiri (Cut and Thrust)
Rank: C
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Type: Offensive
Handseals: --
Chakra Consumption: Mid
The battojutsu practitioner subjugates their dominant hand with chakra. This allows the practitioner to commence their attack from any position, this particular technique allows the practitioner to thrust into the opponent and then punctuates the movement with a harsh vertical or diagonal slash, which leads them to sheathe their sword once again.
Tsuka Dageki (Hilt Blow)
Rank: C
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Type: Defensive
Handseals: --
Chakra Consumption: Mid
A technique that is used by the holder of the weapon to suddenly launch the hilt of the blade outwards from any position. The main function of this attack grants the user the ability to use the blunt end of the hilt while it is still encased, and move it forward to suddenly strike the opponent. The attack is so quick, due to the method of movement, that it is a extremely difficult to predict technique, and usually ensures a hit if performed on a unsuspecting target.
Note: The stunning power of this technique is one turn after contact.
Iaijutsu (Art of Mental Presence)
Rank: D
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Type: Supplementary
Handseals: --
Chakra Consumption: Low to cast and sustain
A defensive nature of fighting, all Iaijutsu practitioners will tend to stand in closed positions, sending chakra throughout their bodies to quicken response times. this leaves little openings and makes sure to make the least amount of wasted movement possible so as to remain solid like a rock. Once the swordsman has understood the basics of fortification, they move on to more complex defensive patterns.
Kawasu (To Parry)
Rank: D
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Type: Defensive
Handseals: --
Chakra Consumption: Low
Commencing from any position, the practitioner draws their sword and moves to deflect or simply block the strike, then resheathes. As the user becomes more proficient in Iaijutsu, more strikes can be defending against in a fluid movement, before they are overwhelmed by the attacks.
Note: This technique serves as a counter against multi-strike based techniques. A maximum of three techniques can be parried per use at an incredibly fast, almost "simultaneous" rate. It should be noted that these parries must be plausible, and simply because a user can defend relatively quick does not mean the are immune to being struck. As state, this will be widely considered as a multi-strike counter.
Ridairekuto (Redirect)
Rank: C
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Type: Defensive
Handseals: --
Chakra Consumption: Mid
Commencing from any position, the practitioner proceeds to unsheathe their blade and quickly strike against an incoming physical attack. But, instead of simply blocking it, the user will instead use the opponents momentum against them, which in turn forces them off balance and leaves them vulnerable to a strike afterwards. While off balance, the opponent will be unable to perform actions involving high amounts of dexterity, due to the surprise of being knocked off center.
Note: Once parried, the opponent is left off balance and unable to find their footing for half a turn.
Sumasshu (Smash and Defend)
Rank: C
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Type: Defensive
Handseals: --
Chakra Consumption: Mid
Commencing from any position, the practitioner strikes with the hilt at a frontal opponent's face, forcing him to stumble back, which allows them to follow up with a quick slash or cut. Following the mindset of 'the best defense is a great offense', the user will seek to stop an opponent from throwing an attack out in the first place, leaving them on the defensive and unable to fully utilize their offense.
