PLACES OF INTEREST
-- Old Suna, the Slums: A small section of the Hidden Sand that refused to allow their homes and land to be renovated, and instead clung to the “old ways” of Sunagakure. The majority of these people are pious monks and humble shop owners. However, taking advantage of the situation, a small but sudden influx of organized crime has swept through the region.
-- Former Administration Building: Until the recent coup overseen by Hitogoroshi Lash, this building was the center of political action within Sunagakure no Sato. Now, Lash has forbidden entrance to the place, calling it condemned, and has placed a small guard retinue to keep watch over the place. Those who are caught entering without permission from Lash himself will be given a death sentence.
-- The Pit: In spite of its ominous name, the Pit is a beautiful dual-arena found within the administrative complex. Larger than life in size, it is fully equipped to comfortably seat over 25,000 spectators at any given time. Comprised of two separated quadrants—one indoor arena and the other outdoor—the Pit, in its latter area, offers a wide variety of elements combatants must overcome while doing battle with each other.
Even more hazardous than the rocky cliffs of Tsuchi no Kuni and slippery slopes of Kaminari no Kuni, and more dangerous than Hi no Kuni’s feared Forest of Death is the arid desert of scorched earth and smoldering stone that surrounds the Hidden Sand. This hellish domain, devoid of water and teeming with violent sandstorms, stretches on for as far as the eye can see. With few to little landmarks to chronicle one’s journey, getting lost in the sea of golden sand is easier than one might suspect. Described as a venerable hell on earth, this fiery domain has become the resting place of countless souls foolish to have ventured too deep past its borders.
WHAT IS SUNAGAKURE NO SATO?
Sunagakure no Sato is a ninja settlement located toward the eastern borders of the Kaze Desert. Known for the savagery of its ninja in combat and, strangely its artistry (including the Puppetry Ninja Arts, which is said to have originated within Sunagakure no Sato), Sunagakure is arguably one of the most powerful shinobi establishments out of the Great Five Nations. With an emphasis on Fuuton (Wind) based ninjutsu, Sunagakure shinobi are said to be as fearsome and deadly in confrontations as the endless series of sandstorms that encircle their beloved home.
From a very young age, these ninja are trained to mercilessly pursue the success of their mission and that there is no greater honor than dying in service to their comrades, people, and village. This has led to the development of an almost fanatical devotion to both their country and village; shinobi of the Hidden Sand obey their Kazekage’s order without question or hesitation, even should it mean certain death.
However, these warriors are not merely mindless barbarians. Many of the Hidden Sand’s ninja possess an almost innate sense of artistic talent, generally in painting, sculpting, and drawing. At the same time, there have been several musical geniuses that have been born within the country’s hardened borders and gone on to produce some of the most beautiful masterpieces ever heard. Another art, more inclined to the shinobi’s nature, is the Puppetry Ninjutsu skills that have flourished throughout the world. Considered Kaze no Kuni’s greatest feat, it is here, within the Hidden Sand, that the art was first conceptualized and, shortly after, created.
In the past, Hidden Sand shinobi preferred to dress in robe-like clothing (to stay cooler in such horrendously hot weather) with light armor ontop of it for protection. These colors were generally of grey, beige, and earthier tones which allowed the ninja to easily blend in with their bleak surroundings. In recent years, however, after the “transformation of Sunagakure”, the village’s people have found themselves able to dress more freely.
With the coming of the Overlord, things have changed slightly. The vibrant life that Sunagakure was known for even in the forgotten deserts of Kaze no Kuni has all but vanished. There remain but a handful of shops and businesses that remain open, and while crime has flourished in the absence of a strong, unified Shinobi front, the Overlord has plans to crush it and restore peace to the land. The term "shinobi" has become frowned upon by the current administration, preferring to use the term "warrior", as someone who is capable of displaying the military might of the Sunagakure Dominion.
WHAT ARE OUR PRINCIPLES?
VICTORY OR DEATH - The motto with which the Overlord lives his life, the goal of all of Sunagakure has changed. Gone are the ideals that friendship and love conquer all. In their stead, a military regime which prizes the ability to be successful has emerged. To that end, friendships or other less platonic relationships are not frowned upon, but neither are they upheld as virtues. What the Overlord expects, above all else, is desired results. How a Warrior of the Sunagakure Dominion accomplishes this is inconsequential, so long as they do not directly interfere with the will or the dictates of the Overlord.
REGARDING CHARACTERS and TRUST
With the way that the storyline of Sunagakure no Sato is developing under Lash's reign as "Kazekage", or the Overlord as he styles himself, characters who earned their titles and displayed their skills for the former administration are ones that Lash does not trust. Basically, regardless of the fact that you have the title that you have, anyone who has not earned Lash's trust currently is viewed unfavorably by him. The ways to earn his trust are by roleplaying with him in a thread, or by successfully completing missions and/or events that he has assigned to them. Completing a D Rank Mission is worth 5 Trust, a C Rank is worth 10, a B Rank is worth 25, an A Rank is worth 75, and an S Rank is worth 150. Simultaneously, failing a mission deducts that must Trust that Lash has towards your character. Trust earned or removed through RP with Lash will be given by him as a "grade" in the final post that he has in the thread with them.
Because of this fact, new characters are capable of essentially starting with the title of Genin, but depending upon your backstory, you may or may not end up with Lash viewing you unfavorably (-1500 Trust), with which you will need to work your way up in the faction with him before he will begin to trust you with essential tasks and duties for the village. Non-Ninjas who seek to start in the village may do so, but do so at (-250) Trust, and may earn enough Trust that Lash will recruit them into the village as a Shinobi or else otherwise utilize their skills. A high enough level of Trust is required before Lash will ever consider your character eligible for a promotion within the village.
It is important for all Sunagakure no Sato shinobi to keep track of their Trust levels, usually indicated within their bio. Failure to keep track of your Trust levels will result in Lash's temperament not changing towards you.
Sunagakure OOC: The Overlord will post his intentions for the direction of the village, including all future village-wide and site-wide plots, within this thread for the denizens, or future denizens, of Sunagakure no Sato to discuss freely. Do you have an idea of something you would like the village to work towards? Let the Overlord know in here!
