Appearance:



An average looking male with fair skin, and long black hair. His Hair is often pulled back and tied into a pony tail in order to keep the hair out of his face. He stands at around 6 feet and weighs an average weight of about 180 pounds. Around his eyes are a red tattoo that he received shortly after graduation. It is a family tradition and as such, all members of his family have the same markings around their eyes.



His Eye color is a golden brown, almost hazel color and seem to hold a great deal of compassion behind them, despite the numerous obstacles he has faced. He has several scars ranging along the length of his upper and lower torso from various injuries incurred in the past. Notably one across his chest near his heart where a katana pierced him almost killing him. Others are less notable and though each are monuments to his struggle and character.



He is a fairly athletic individual and as such remains muscularly defined, as most shinobi are. He is not muscular in any sense of the word, but rather slim and toned.



Kou has tailored outfits specifically outfitted for form and function and less about style. Usually he stays to plain colors such as white, black, or red without any flashy patterns and insignia's. He believes that a shinobi should blend in with his surrounding and not stand out no matter what his task is.



Typically he will wear one special item and that is a hand knitted sash which he uses as a scarf. Its scarlet color signifies his family heritage and is a precious item to him. He will occasionally use it to cover the lower half of his face during dust storms or to conceal his face while out in the field.



He is also outfitted with two black leather bracers, and the typical sandals a shinobi would wear. He will also carry a standard issue cloak around just in case he has to travel in the rain, or to conceal his identity while out and about. Sometimes it is better for him to go incognito rather than be noticeable. The Cloak itself is something hand made from Iwagakure no sato, and he has no particular emotional attachment to it, though he does like the fact it cost him so much.



He will sometimes bee seen carrying a gourd with (火水) Himizu etched on the side in black ink. It is often speculated it carries his personal supply of Sake while he is around town.

Kousuke has suffered several notable scars. His upper torso is has several large crescent scars from battles with the Samurai criss crossing his chest and back. His arms are slightly scarred as are his legs, however the clearly noticable scar is over his left eye. The X shaped scar over the eye is a reminder of an enemy he once fought and lost against.

DISCIPLINED





Kou has an amazing sense of discipline and personal responsibility. He takes certain tasks of protecting his comrades seriously. Though he often has a childish or playful nature often playing pranks, he treats missions and training as serious subjects. When instructing someone personally in Kenjutsu; more specifically Battojutsu; he becomes an entirely different person. He has a strict training regime he keeps to, since he has never been very good at ninjutsu, he practices as hard as he can to hone his sword skills. He has been known to be one of the foremost authorities of Battojutsu in Iwa. His swordsmanship and discipline have earned him titles including Sword Demon of Iwa and Heavenly Sword Saint.


DETERMINED





Determination is a key factor in Kou’s personality. He has never been very good at Ninjutsu or Genjutsu and so has solely relied on his Taijutsu skills. While he does have some hand to hand skill he mostly relies on Kenjutsu as an offensive and defensive technique. This has required tireless hours of training and practicing his skills, studying forms, finding mentors to teach him the skills required and then perfecting his skills every day. His determination to solely rely on Kenjutsu and become world renown as a master swordsman has caused many long nights, bruised hands, and occasionally a broken ego. Any time he is unable to accomplish a task, he simply trains harder to become stronger than the day before. He is relentless in his determination and even if outnumbered or facing a stronger opponent, he never gives into despair.


HONOR



Kou’s honor is precious to him. He holds his honor like a closely guarded treasure made of precious metals and rare stones. He keeps to his strict code of honor no matter the reprimand he may receive which has been cause of several detainments and punishments for failing to follow through. He believes killing a weaker opponent is not honorable, therefore will not attack anyone whom he does not deem strong enough to fight. He will not attack from the shadows or strike from behind, which has caused stress among team formations. He will not fight an uneven match, or if he outnumbers his opponent. For these reasons he is often looked at as uncompromising and stubborn, however most respect his adherence to his personal honor over everything else.




INDEPENDENT



Kou has a somewhat rebellious streak. He often will act alone without his team when necessary and will often request to work alone. His ideology is that he can’t allow others to come to harm because of his own weakness and refuses to work with those who he feels would be a hindrance or could be wounded in combat. Because of this, others find him hard to work with as his teamwork is lacking, and he often will act alone even when not directly leading the mission. He will also fail to act on orders if it adversely effects his own personal honor. He has actually been placed under house arrest several times due to an unwillingness to comply with requests or direct orders when it conflicted with his personal honor. He is often given or takes on missions that he can perform solo, though he will seldom find a group of people he can depend on.



Disdain




Kou has a hard time being motivated about much. Usually he won’t take on a mission unless his Sake his running low, or he is eating cup ramen every day. He is often called lazy, but only accepts missions he finds worthy of his time. He often will refuse a mission if it doesn’t pay well, or it’s a “hassle” for him to complete. Often he is forced into the mission under threat of arrest for insubordination if it is required for him to go. He much prefers the quiet life. Though he seems unmotivated, he will be quick to act when a comrade is in danger, or when his attention is required. If there is a dangerous element that threatens the safety of the village or several other shinobi have failed to complete the mission he will take it upon himself to complete it.
