Captivated
The land is Adaris. A land of powerful races, and even more powerful technology The times are treacherous. For years, the two warring factions have threatened to tear apart the very land with their combat, always fighting back and forth over conquest of the most insignificant items. They fight so fiercely over the land that it grows barren, dry, turning into nothing but a lifeless desert, under which lie the bodies of men and women from both sides of the conflict. The scorched plains are but the place where the battle has raged longest, but the balance has never shifted to favor either side, and the battle hardened veterans are growing tired of fighting on the shifting, treacherous sand.
No one can truly remember when the fighting started, though they know that the eldest living generations still speak of a time of peace. A time when the skies were not blackened by the smoke churned out by the Rokudan factories, as they manufacture endless steam powered war machines to march out upon the land, destroying more with every move they make. A time when the noise of the Ventanian wind turbines was not solely dedicated to the making of their own war creations, weapons of exquisite finesse and power. A time when war....was only a word.
But those days are no more. Now, the sounds of battle are as common to the people as their own breathing. The sounds of marching as another battalion of units joins the fray. The sounds of weapons firing in the training yards on either side, the shrill squeal of pressurized steam releasing, or the harsh crack of an out-flow of air. And the reason behind the war has faded into the mists of time, becoming nothing more than mere rumors. The fact remains that not many know of the official reason.
So the true tale has taken much time to gather, requiring many different conversations, much searching between various different people who are almost too senile to exude a single coherent statement. Fortunately, enough information was gathered to piece together a loose stab at what actually happened. A long time ago, the two factions were each perfectly content with their neighbor, and trade and information flowed quickly and freely between the two. Those were times of great innovation, and scientific advancement flew forward. Sadly, the time ended abruptly, when the daughter of the elven king of Rokudo went suddenly missing. Having no one else to blame it on, the King blamed his Aerarien neighbors in Ventania, pointing the finger of blame squarely at them. Naturally, the King of Rokudo pleaded innocence, stating that he had not ordered such a terrible deed. And then, suddenly and sadly, all the great innovations that had been created, suddenly were turned into weapons for war.......
