_{The Holy Grail War is fought over the Holy Grail, a omnipotent device that will grant the winner one wish. This could be selected from a list provided by the Admin. Examples would be...Bijuu 1-3, a added chakra boost. A relic. A Kin. You get the picture. I must stress that this is not a tournament. It is a war. Incidentally, it is not fought between Nations and Villages. The Grail chooses a number of people (8 and up) who will compete. These people should be those who we want to get to be active, the best thing being that the use of the Holy Grail is that it can change who it's eight 'Master's' are going to be. If someone goes inactive for a period of time, they can move the control marks over to someone else. Control Marks are a Fuinjutsu that is used to show who is a Master. They are also used to control a Servant. These are Historic Figures who have come back to compete for the Holy Grail amongst themselves. These could come from Real Life, Hercules, King Arthur. Or from Naruto History. Let's say I chose....Gene's old chara Ue, Zenkami. He was a Puppeteer. So let's say...he has Puppetry abilities and helps my Genin Character fight by commanding his Puppets for him. Essentially it's a Summon. Also a strange and perverted sense of the Endo Tensei technique. In a willing sort of way. Those who have watched Fate Stay/Night and Fate/Zero will know what I'm talking about.
These Summons will only last as long as the War is active, so....it's a long term event thing really.}

That honestly seems pretty silly and isn't very related to the plot of the site--further, we shouldn't need to bribe people in order to get them to be active. If it takes promises of reward to get them to post, their writing and story will be half-hearted, and there would always be the threat of them leaving simply because they don't have the same attachment as somebody who actually wants to write here.

Look, you want people to do something, you offer then carrot, not stick. You want people to come online, you make it worth their while. If this means giving them stuff, make 'em work for it. That's economics. I'm not saying it's a perfect idea. As for not tying into plot....I can't really help that. If you want to try and tie it in fine, but all the plot I see right now are Bijuu. I admit that any story created will not be as effective as if they had willingly joined, but that's the overall site's job.

The reason we are losing activity is because a lot of people don't like to RP realism into shit, hence why they stay on lame ass forums where they are just handed shit without any effort.

No, I don't believe it should work like this at all. I wouldn't given them the carrot or the stick. If they want a reason to write here, it should be because of the rules, the story, and the community, not because they might get a free item or jutsu.

Giving people free stuff via posting in an event will not guarantee they post in any other event. If anything, because you had to coerce them with freebies, they are less likely to post elsewhere, because that suggests they were posting out of interest of getting whatever free item that was, not out of a desire to tell story or write. You end up creating a standard of giving away free things to get people to write. You end up angering older players who actively post but aren't involved in this giveaway. You effectively create far more issues than it is worth.

If people do not want to roleplay here, we should not bribe them to do so. Part of what we need right now are individuals who are willing to help post sitewide plots, interact with people on a larger scale, and push the site in a new direction all-in-all. That means we need people that write because they find this fun, and treat it as a hobby.

We have stronger options to consider in regards to wrangling activity that don't involve giveaways; as is, the XP Modifiers are enough in that regard.

I agree with akuma, giving away free stuff doesn't always help. It's been proven by the pass giveaways, the same inactive people post in the thread getting the free stuff. So things like that make people want to rp, it just gives them free shit so they can go afk with. It would better help the site if we advertised the site more and work on the plans that we already have in the works to make them reality.

WHOA. WHOA. WHOA. Who said anything about FREE? This is a death-match between a couple of people who become MAJOR targets for the Villages. This isn't so much as too attract people, as too keep them here. Select a few new members, give 'em a servant, tell them to kill each other....that's about as far as I can dissolve this. Right-o, again this is not a 'free' event. It's something to keep people occupied with. Look at what I said above to Bit. This is a Death-Match. No other way too look at it. As for the older players....I don't think that's really the way too look at it. Most of them have characters of sufficient power and prestige to easily roll over newbies. Too say nothing of RP ability of course.

Right....that statement is soooo true...if it was in fact correct, this topic wouldn't be here. We can't point to existing options and say 'this works' because it isn't. Yes the EXP Modifiers should be enough, but for some people, they aren't, why? Perhaps they don't qualify for it? I sure as heck know that I don't qualify for the current Fable Modifier as I know no one with a Summon, and don't have enough spare EXP to purchase the technique.
I'm not dismissing their worth, they are absolutely brilliant, but yeah....troublesome for those still new on their feet too navigate. Especially those for whom this is their first time.

Allow members to compile accounts. Fold one into the other. This would, of course, come with a cost.

All Equipment from the account being erased is just that, erased.

Ryo, takes a 50% decrease.

EXP, takes a 25% decrease.

The history, KG, Etc., etc. of the account being kept remains the same. Only thing changing is the addition of half the other accounts unspent Ryo and three quarters of the other accounts total EXP.

I'm sure this thread has grown since the first post, but one of the reasons why I almost overlooked this place is because there hasn't been any recent "bumps" on RPG Directory; I almost assumed this place was dead due to the lack of activity.

Honestly, I'd recommend closing down all the villages but two, and putting a cap on the number of alts, preferably down to two. If you have more than two, you can shelf the other ones until one of your current ones die, or you can get rid of them in exchange for penalty waivers that allow you to scrap or recreate after death without losing experience.

The logic behind my suggestion is that the site isn't active enough to necessitate having 5 villages and a lower country. What that's done for us is take an already small population of members and spread them even thinner across the boards, which is why villages go inactive so frequently.

So, shift everyone into whatever the two most active villages are, allow only two alts, and focus events around the two villages fighting each other. Not NPC monsters and Sephiroths, fighting each other.

On the other hand though, people need to really up their A-Game in so far as activity. All the greatest events in the world won't make a bit of difference if half the participants are missing their IIC every single time, which is pretty much the norm here. We need to meet the site halfway. Half of us are in college and therefore really busy most of the time IRL, which is cool, but no one here is so busy that they can't be bothered to at least log on and say "skip me this turn, sorry", especially in the year 2012 where everyone has an internet capable phone.

And if you are too busy to do that, don't join the fucking thread. Final exams, road trips and parties are never "surprises". So don't join a thread if you know you have a trip to Germany or midterms coming up in a week.

Anyway, that's my two sense.
