Meeting the people he was supposed to instruct was remarkably similar to how he imagined one would go about greeting a girlfriend's parents.
'Yes I'm feeling up your sperm droppings, but we're going to be nice to each other just for a good show aren't we fellas?'
Grunting to himself, Kaku paused in his musing as he blocked yet another swing from the cadet he was sparing with.
He had said to the Major that he'd fall in line with the troops themselves first as just another recruit. He'd deliver his report to the Major later on, and help assist with the instruction under the guise of someone older. He'd probably make himself completely unrecognisable just for his own personal security.
And was it his imagination, or had the Major paired him up with the buffest kid in the group? Still, whatever manner of physical work this farm boy had done, it wasn't going to be enough to win the battle today.
True to the Primarch's assessment, they used Jian's clubs specifically altered for pinning, trapping and twisting wrists. Slightly more painful then simply disarming, but nonetheless effective.
Unfortunately, the boy he had been paired with used it in a similar fashion to a a sword, attempting to make motions with it that would only really be effective if you had more range and a sharper edge. It was for this reason that Kaku was consecutively beating him.
Because he seemed to be stuck on the use of the batton to cleave his opponent in half, and while he had the physical mass to do something of the like with the appropriate blade, his motions were continually intercepted pinned and disarmed via his own disarming handle. Which was something Kaku had to be careful about now, as it appeared the kid was getting the main focus of his strategy, and was now more about smacking his wrist until he dropped it, having learned that clashing the Jian's together was a game of speed and intuition, something that he lacked.
Through the battle, Kaku used it to organise his thoughts, regarding how to best re-organise the combat structure. Weaving beneath a blow, he felt the baton clip his ear, sending the delicate organ a flame with rushing blood as the sensation of pain lanced through the side of his head, not dissimilar to a hot needle.
How on earth the females could stand getting their ears pierced was beyond him. Using one hand to cover his injured organ in pure reflex, Kaku adjusted his stance and engaged.
:Later:
"I saw you tearin' it up with young Ricco back there."
It had been a slightly awkward silence when Kaku hand snuck into the Major's office and locked the door. He pretended he couldn't see the normally decorative sword had been moved to a more optimal location for it's traditional purpose.
"I'd hardly say it was an uneven fight Major, he'll be a force to be reckoned with once he's trained up."
The unsaid words of 'for this level' lingered between them.
Kaku nervously coughed and handed a couple of sheets of paper to the Major.
"What's this?"
Kaku paused to allow him a few seconds of reading to answer his own question by backing it up with his own words.
"My synopsis of your work here." It included the flaws Kaku had seen with the group, not enough grappling in co-ordination with the Jian, a lack of portal shield to fend off projectiles (apparently there was armour, but to Kaku, you need a more active policy for half of the things that could be tossed around.) he'd also looked at some basic forms, turning side on to your opponent, removing the ideal of 'power swings' from the arsenal and incorporating some measure of uniformity. Discipline was important to a small group such as this, and lacking it severely reduced their effectiveness.
Worming his way out of actually strutting around and telling the veterans and the newcomers alike hadn't been hard at all, they were far more likely to listen to the Major then himself, and Kaku found that jived just fine with him. He'd done his part.
As he exited the gate, Kaku took one last glimpse at the motto above the portal.
'Heh, damn right'
