Smoke trailed from ominous flames lining the horizon. The scent of charred stone and a chorus of dreadful shrieking filled the air. My figure was a blur, cries of panic and an eerie, calamitous roar inciting my alarm. A sudden disturbance in the ordinary comings-and-goings had sent the village’s vanguard into a state of terror. I could make out an unbearable fear on the faces of a fleeing citizenry as I continued forward, a single thread weaving through the living and non-living with sightless resolve. I wasn’t sure of the commotion’s source, though with all of the rumors that had been floating about recently, I was certainly inclined toward a particular suspicion.
As I advanced, the distant, billowing conflagration would fill my imagination with flashes from a not-too-distant past. I was incensed with a sudden anger, as repressed events made themselves plain before my consciousness. Identical cries of terror, a temple burning, my previous home, and family, within flames, and I myself incapacitated, though nonetheless too weak to come to their aid regardless. The obscure, shadowy events that had set the course for my arrival within a new home. Eyeing the fiery horizon once more, and the fleeing masses, I wondered if today would mark a reshowing.
I would alter my visage (x) via adornment moments before converging upon the scene, veiling my eyes in the case of violence. Moving closer to the sight, however, I was halted by a small assembage of shinobi who, having witnessed the destruction of our gates themselves, had already arrived near the spectacle's source, and were seemingly waiting for the dust to clear. Falling in line, I would be on a rooftop, three meters behind, and two meters to the left of the taller, dark-haired figure once my movements came to a stop. I was unsure of what exactly their plan was, yet there I waited, slightly perturbed, though attentive and focused on whatever would proceed.
