Funny enough, the girl soon became energized after the male’s somewhat solemn monologue, bouncing about the trail before asking yet another question pertaining to an ever growing subject: the Chuunin Exams. Known all throughout the lands and the hidden villages, the Chuunin Exams were sponsored by a third party as a test to make sure that the village’s Genin demonstrated the skills needed in order to be granted the title of Chuunin. He had heard briefly of the Raikage making the selection process very small so that the selected Genin would have the highest rate of success as possible. As far as he knew, the Chuunin Exams was full of many trials and that death was a possibility for those who were unfortunate enough. Silently, the boy gazed up at the sky before turning his attention back towards the perky female.

“…I…I’ll go to them. However, I’ll only go to them when I know I’m ready.”

The Medic responded, the flaps of his pilot’s hat swinging to and fro with each and every step. True, he had much work to do should he wish to participate in the Chuunin Exams but he was sure that his confidence would escalate once he convinced himself that he was up to the challenge.

“…I’m guessing you’re going right? We could help each other get ready for them. I’d like to see both of us get the Chuunin Title.”

Arate commented, a slight smile appearing on his features. It was true that he wished to ascend higher in the shinobi ranks and both of them receiving the rank of Chuunin would be quite the sight to behold. In fact, any and all Cloud Shinobi receiving the title would be a pleasant sight.

A slight smile appeared on the boy’s visage upon hearing the femme’s reaction towards his choice of specialty. It was true, medical ninja were the ones who were often the deciding factor between whether or not a team perished or survived and Arate knew that that pressure would be on his shoulders in the future. Still, the youth listened as the crystal utilizing kunoichi began to go onto a more personal subject, wondering if the Medic ever felt like he didn’t measure up to the rest of the world. Strangely enough, the boy could relate to the boisterous girl’s experiences. When he had registered into the Academy, he found himself struggling to keep with the designated “prodigies” of his graduation class and his choice of specialization had drawn even more criticism towards him. Of the three Arts, Genjutsu was often denoted as the most useless as most did not see its potency or “flashiness” compared to Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. Arate’s choice to chose Genjutsu as his primary Art definitely caused confusion amongst his class mates although the higher – ups of the Academy had told the dark skinned male that his choice was a rare one however if he continued to refine his Art, he’d be blessed with unbelievable power. It mattered not if he didn’t belong to a esteemed clan or was in possession of a unique element, it didn’t mean that he was doomed to failure. Now, if Arate could only convince himself of such…

“…Sometimes. It kind of reminds me…of when I lost sight in my right eye. It was a training exercise and I was put up one of the top students of the Academy. My Genjutsu wasn’t particularly refined and as a result, I ended up taking a…bad injury.”

He gestured towards the gruesome scar on his right eye, his eye almost looking as if it were a glassy soulless orb.

“…But I have to keep telling myself that I can’t let shortcomings stop me. I may not have any special abilities or be affiliated or a member of a clan but I strive to become the greatest Medical Ninja and Genjutsu specialist that I possibly can. We seem to have something in common, both of us feel that our efforts are wasted. Maybe we can convince ourselves that our efforts aren’t meaningless, that we can rise to our own personal heights.”

The boy explained, head turning towards the blonde ninja.

In that strange moment, the angered Inuzuka appeared to have calmed down, his facial features reverting back to their original states and after a seemingly random comment, the older male leapt from the table, causing the Medic to gasp as he hastily began to inhale lungfuls of air, deprived of the resource once he was practically choking. He couldn’t believe that he couldn’t even break the attacker’s grip. Damn, talk about physically weak. Shaking his head, the youth gazed at the Inuzuka comforting his pet so to seem, tempted to take this opportunity to leave the area. Alas before he could even lift himself from his seat, the red clad warrior spoke of luck being on Arate’s side, claiming that now the dark skinned boy was of relative importance to him. The added threat at the end of his statement didn’t comfort the Medic in the least bit and upon receiving a “slap on the back”, the boy was effectively pushed forward onto the top of the table, practically face-planting on the table’s wooden surface.

…Am I just that weak…or is he just really strong?

The youth wondered silently as he lifted his head to hear that the clan member was now…treating him to food? Arate blinked his eyes confusedly, his right one seemingly devoid of any emotion. The white haired male showed quite the shift in attitude and the look on the Medic’s face was definitely one of apprehension. From the sounds of it, he really didn’t want to be around somebody who looked as if they wanted to eat him right then and there and also one who was so quick to give a deadly beating should Arate cross his path. Given his already volatile demeanor, that certainly appeared to be something of unavoidability. Even so, declining the clan member’s offer would only incite another period of rage and with reluctance, the Medic soundlessly rose from his seat and began to slowly walk towards the food stand, functional eye fixated on the Inuzuka as he did so. Needless to say that Arate wouldn't let his guard down just yet, not when faced with this wolfish lunatic.

True, the opponent was at the outer perimeters of the explosion and even though he had fallen victim to the Genjutsu, he was resourceful in the fact of falling backwards to spare him taking much unneeded damage from the detonation of the exploding tag however it wasn’t as if Arate would remain idle after his single handseal. No, just as the exploding tag combusted into short-lasting flames and cloudy smoke, the youth shunshined forward, narrowly escaping the violent explosion of electrical energy from the lightning doppelganger, the exploding tag wasn’t necessarily utilized in order to cause harm but to conceal and concealing it would do. True, he had not witnessed the Hokage’s single handseal but in turn, the Leaf Village Leader would not notice the Medic’s soundless evasion, he too being masked by the cloud of smoke. Still, the boy made haste, retrieving yet more arrays of secondary weaponry from his respective pouch as he deftly maneuvered around the cloud’s right side, barely sprinting outside of the cloud’s perimeter. Unfortunately for the Kage, the shrapnel wouldn’t be sufficient in breaking him out of the Genjutsu seeing as though Arate’s skill in illusionary arts was much higher than his ( Primary vs Teritary ) and as a result, the opponent would be forced to endure two turns of unavoidable suffering at the hands of the simple yet potent illusion.

Seeing this, once the blonde ninja fell belly-down, he’d simply fall amongst the soft grasses, completely incapable of performing his acrobatic maneuver of choice. Instead, he’d literally be a sitting duck, face down due to the Genjutsu making his legs feel as if they were coated within a vicious glue and also causing him to lose almost all sense of balance. The dark skinned boy would quickly be but five meters away from the Kage’s position, now in front of the large cloud of smoke. Effortlessly, he launched but a tailed kunai poised to plant itself deep into the Kage’s exposed back and it was then that a familiar handseal would be executed therefore causing the kunai and tag to erupt into a brilliant display of smoke and flame from before. As an extra precaution, the boy leapt back a meter once he had detonated the explosive note, making sure that he too wouldn’t fall victim to its dangerous spray of bits of metal.

The boy’s heart sank once he had noticed that the clan member had ignored his gesture towards the populated food stand and instead questioned the reasoning behind the Medic’s reaction. The half blind youth only blinked in response, lips quivering as he desperately searched for the strength to utter but a word. The canine’s high pitched whine momentarily captured Arate’s attention and just as the dark skinned male gazed at the wolf’s direction, the air suddenly became thick with chakra. Just before Arate could turn his attention back towards the now enraged Inuzuka, he felt a clawed hand grip the collar of his shirt, causing him to gasp in exasperation as he felt the razor-sharp nails dig into his upper chest.

The Medic flinched at the acute pain and upon witnessing the older shinobi’s transformation, his entire form was washed over with unmistakable horror. The fang-like teeth, the sharpened claws and the animalistic eyes…it was as if all of his fears were manifested into one being…no, monster. The Inuzuka’s booming voice didn’t help with Arate’s morale and in absolute panic, the Genjutsu specialist gripped the clan member’s wrist with both hands in a feeble attempt to wrestle out of the stranger’s vicious grip. The strength he posssesed, it was almost…inhuman and given Arate’s absolute lack of athleticism, his efforts would prove to be futile. In a flurry, the boy shook his head, the flaps of the goggled pilot’s hat swinging to and fro as he did so.

“…N-Nothing!”

The meek voice came out, the Medic yelping as he felt the claws dig further into his skin due to his constant yet worthless struggling. Oh, the worst thing could have possibly happened for him and now, the young boy was now at the mercy of this awakened beast…

His estimation was correct, there was something odd about this perfect replica of the crystal using girl, considering the strange “clang” that was made didn’t reflect the sound made when flesh hit a harder material. Nevertheless, the Medic jumped upon hearing the femme’s high pitched voice, body whipping around to notice his sparring partner waving frantically in hopes of catching the half blind boy’s attention. The youth blinked his eyes confusedly, witnessing the dissipation of the clone through his peripherals. Well, she was certainly a clever one and after but a moment of thought, Arate had realized as to the trick she had done. The male watched as his sparring partner closed the distance between them, tonfa still gripped within his right hand. She immediately questioned as to why nothing had occurred earlier, despite the Medic’s obvious display of handseals and her other assumption made Arate shake his head a tad bit, causing the pilot’s hat on his head to slump over slightly on his right hand.

“…It was a Genjutsu. I’m surprised that you weren’t affected by it, that is, unless you possess another unique ability or some sort. I’m a Medical Ninja but I also specialize in Genjutsu. I was never any good at Taijutsu so, I felt that Genjutsu as well as Ninjutsu would be my areas of focus. The illusion I used wasn’t at its full power, which is why you didn’t feel the effects.”

Arate explained, dark skinned hand rising upward to rub under his nose.

“…That was a good strategy though. You tricked me.”

His meek voice continued, vaguely trying to pass a smile the female’s way.

Convinced that he had avoided a possible confrontation, the boy continued to idly stare at the flavored drink before him, oblivious to the high flying form of the wild Inuzuka. Needless to say once he saw that a body had landed on his table, he jumped in surprise, mismatched hues widening as he gazed at the now airborne drink that he had purchased. Motionless he was, watching as the white haired male stared hard at him, his face nearly inches away from his. The boy hadn’t taken a breath since the lunatic leapt on the table but after inhaling but a whiff, he was overcome by a most horrible stank. The scent burned his nostrils as obnoxiously bad breath billowed past his face that smelt like a combination of raw meat and dog shit. The male had asked a simple question yes but already considering how startled Arate was already, he couldn’t help but scrunch up his face, facial features contorting into stunned disgust.

He coughed, gasping for fresh air but then immediately straightened up once he realized his own reaction. He wasn’t trying to be rude, he truly wasn’t! He was just caught off guard that’s all and in hopes of changing the subject quick enough so that the demanding Inuzuka wouldn’t catch on, the Medic gestured over towards a nearby stall that was vending endless amounts of ramen to the carnival’s attendants. All the while, his eyes gazed back into the pools of yellow, taking notice of the individual’s slitted pupils. The stranger’s overall appearance was quite animalistic and Arate was beginning to think that this boy was of a peculiar clan or bloodlimit and even though he’d like to know, he knew that there was no chance of that happening after that rude reaction of his and even as much as he’d want to apologize, he remained silent and still, eyes the size of saucers.

The opponent’s plan was clever, Arate would give him that, but unfortunately he had miscalculated. The tailed knife was not following a linear trajectory but rather at an angled one. The possibility of successfully striking the Medic’s thrown kunai, given its flight path, as well as causing it to be knocked back five meters was of impossibility. For that to occur, the kunai had to be literally stricken on its underside, which the opponent had not done. Even so, the Hokage did manage to strike and stop the boy’s kunai with his own, causing it to drop at the five meter mark. True, Arate wasn’t the most athletic individual in the world and the fact that his opponent intercepted his kunai was believable and to be expected. But it mattered not.

All the while, the dark skinned boy had been watching with an unwavering gaze and after immediately noticing the kunai being intercepted yet still being at a favorable proximity, hands came together to form but a single seal, therefore activating the combustible. Scorching flames and billowing smoke encompassed the five meter blast radius as heated bits of shrapnel flew outward indiscriminately, capable of perforating the blonde haired ninja, as if the fire wasn’t enough. The blonde would not have the chance to observe his own lightning clone nor would he be able to commence with its own detonation since he had to suffer the effects of but a simple yet deadly shinobi tool. Evasion would not find itself easy for the opponent had already succumbed to the effects of the Medic’s debilitating Genjutsu and the taller ninja’s choice to ignore that would prove to be fatal.

The mute ninja had been informed of a most lavish festival being thrown as a means of uplifting the village peoples’ spirits and to him, a nice casual festival seemed to be one of the best methods at calming his nerves. Stationed at a small table, the boy idly gazed at the non alcoholic drink he had purchased, the concoction itself having a sweet and tasty flavor. The leather, goggled pilot’s hat on his head was slumped slightly to the right, falling a little bit over his right blind eye. As already stated, adjusting to unilateral vision had not been an easy task for him nor was coping with the vicious scar that would forever mar his appearance. Nevertheless, the Medic was content, especially at this point in time and even a rare genuine smile appeared on his features.

That is until he caught ear of the Inuzuka’s statement. The dark skinned boy looked towards the voice’s source and was met with a most beastly individual. With white hair and topaz hues with slitted pupils, his predatory comment fit perfectly with his overall appearance and considering that there was a less than friendly looking canine trailing behind him, Arate hoped as to he wouldn’t be of interest to the feral duo. Oh, but what a mistake he made. With mismatched hues did he stare, the pilot’s hat repositioning to reveal the boy’s blind right eye and horrific scar. The Medic didn’t mean to openly stare as such but he couldn’t help it, his fear of being noticed by this individual was only causing him to draw the stranger’s attention to himself. Noticing his behavior, the flustered youth turned his attention back towards his flavored drink, right hand gripping the glassware shakily. Even then, the Medic occasionally gazed at the Inuzuka’s direction, praying that he had not captured the clan member’s attention.

Simultaneous to the blonde’s weaving of seals did the Medic begin his own, dark skinned hands weaving together a most faux but convincing sensation. The opponent’s lower extremities would increase in viscosity at the sequence’s end, resulting in some rather annoying yet devastating effects. Immediately after, the male fumbled within his pouch littered with various weaponry and launched a projectile of an ivory hue, poised to stick firmly into Gaia but a meter north of the opponent. Taking note of the doppelganger speedily approaching, Arate tensed, right hand still nestled within his open bag.

Stepping into the forested area, the Medic wasn’t quite sure as to why he was entrusted with the task of hunting down a rather elusive opponent. Despite he was instantly at an disadvantage, the youth just had to make do with what he had available to him. With a inexhaustible yet weakened light source, mismatched hues surveyed the area as pouch and holster housed a multitude of tools and other notable accessories. The boy tensed as right hand fumbled about various weaponry.

Just where was his opponent hiding?

The boy blinked different colored hues, lowering them and twisting his lips once he had observed that his technique had had no effect. Even though the girl was stationary, she should have had faced the effects of the Genjutsu regardless lest she was secretly part of some bloodline that were blessed with eyes that could pierce through weaved illusions. Abandoning the illusion then, the youth watched as Hayline partially dismissed some of the crystal at her disposal only to go plummeting into the depths below. Blinking confusedly, it was needless to say that the Medic was surprised once he witnessed the crystal utilizing shinobi leap from the lake, soaring above the dark skinned male’s head and landing neatly three meters behind him. With haste, the boy’s right hand slid to his side, gripping the sturdy tonfa constructed out of synthetic materials. Just as the girl was poised to land a fierce punch on his abdomen, Arate brought his tonfa upward, gripping the extension part so that the shaft was parallel with the upper portion of his arm. The result was him successfully blocking the punch though upon making contact, it didn’t sound as if flesh and bone were colliding with the blunt weapon but rather, something harder…tougher.

?!

Unless this girl was made of crystal, this doppelganger before him had to be of something else. Not sticking around to find out, the Medic pivoted and leapt back three meters to the clone’s right, both his dark brown eye and milky white blind eye a bit widened in surprise.
Just what was Hayline planning?

The female yawned which could only be interpreted as complete boredom. Shifting uneasily, the boy struggled to find another medium of conversation and before he could even utter another syllable, Hayline leapt into the air, landing neatly in the center of her fine sheet of crystallized water. Pointing out towards the dark skinned boy with a pale finger, she called for the youth to observe this mystical event for she had the ability to stand on the surface of water. Even though Arate knew that standing on top of water was possible through precise chakra control, he only stood silently, a look of slight surprise plastered upon his features once the blonde demanded that Arate demonstrate his abilities. She even went so far as to adjust into a comfortable stance, making it an easier process to retaliate to whatever the male might conjure. Blinking his eyes and then nodding silently, the Medic shifted his stance as well though it was nowhere near as refined as the girl’s. He really wasn’t one for Taijutsu and his battle stance reflected that. Observing the scene before him through unilateral vision, hands came together to expertly dart through the needed sequence of seals to manifest a most convincing illusion.

Upon the final seal, Arate concentrated as he began to probe at the female’s sense of touch and it was then that the technique soon came to life. She’d begin to feel her legs loosen, almost as if they were purely composed of viscous glue and should she attempt to move, well, she’d become fully aware of her complete absence of balance. T’was a simple Genjutsu and Arate would’ve told of his ability of such however he abided by her wishes. He didn’t speak of it and only presented a small sample of his prowess.

Although minute, the smile that began to curl on the femme’s features calmed Arate, knowing that he had not possessed as a nuisance or a potential foe towards the teenage girl. Even though the question she had posed was rhetorical and was supposed to be humorous, the male only blinked his eyes confusedly before a meek grin appeared on his visage, a dark skinned hand rising upward in order to fiddle with the pilot’s hat donned on his crown. Listening further to the girl’s explanation, the boy’s mismatched hues widened as she spoke of herself possessing the capability of manipulating an advanced release.

He had heard vaguely of these rare elemental releases, formed by the synergy of two of the basic six elemental releases. Equivalent to that of a bloodline limit, these wielders of these unique and powerful elements were definitely not to be trifled with and having the ability to manipulate one of these selected elements was a prestige indeed. Thinking that she was going to go into more about the creation of crystal and its mechanics, the youth was a bit startled to see that she had redirected the conversation's subject and instead wished to learn more about Arate himself. Her name was Hayline, a ninja of Cloud.
