Sigh.

Tsukune closed his eyes for a long moment, allowing his mind to wander over the archives of his memory. The last seven years seemed like a dream, and even now, he didn't like to indulge his own sorrow by digging into the memories of the past. This was different, however. He wouldn't mind doing it for someone who needed it. It was fascinating, in its own way, to explain the war to someone who had never witnessed it. Every adult alive today remembered it. Even those that didn't want to remember it.

“The Hidden Leaf and the Hidden Sand were skirmishing, if you remember that. Having little vanity battles, border conflicts. Nothing unusual.” He sat for a moment, remembering. “Things escalated, this time. Iwagakure was drawn in by alliance. Kumogakure and Kirigakure both saw a chance to strike at their enemies in a moment of vulnerability. Soon, all Five Great Nations were engaged in the war. They used our country as a battlefield. We had to fight just to defend our own land.”

No one saw it coming.

“Everyone was waiting for the war to end, and it never did. It just went on and on. The small countries were the first to fall. Amegakure, Takigakure, Kusagakure... All of them were completely destroyed. The Great Nations were decimated. The whole world was on fire, it seemed like. Soon enough, though, it all just stopped. No one had any troops left. Everyone was dead.” He stopped for a moment, swallowing. “The rest of us... We wandered, trying to survive without a village. I did that for years... And now, all of a sudden, there's a village again.”

He smiled faintly, searching her eyes. “In some ways, I'm as confused as you.”

This sucks.

Tsukune hurried down the street, his senses attuned to the task at hand. That task, specifically, was acquiring a horse whip for an elderly client. What he intended to do with it, Tsukune didn't have the slightest clue. He was glad that he didn't. Any of the possibilities that came to mind were liable to leave him with horrible mental scars. Rather than suffer that, he pretended the whole problem didn't exist, and that he just needed a horse whip for... some reason. Some bizarre reason.

Alright, so...

There was already a place in his head, and he was heading for it. There wasn't much call for horse inside of a shinobi village, so he was more likely to find the whip at a less reputable place of business. He arrived outside the shaded windows of one such speciality store. He braced himself, taking a deep breath, and charged into the store. He moved like a whirlwind, grabbing up a rod with a thong of black leather at one end, dropping his money on the counter and escaping the house of sin before more than ten seconds had passed.

He shook his head, holding the thing away from him with reluctant fingers. He wasn't bothered so much by the idea of it; more the idea that an old man and his lady friends would be enjoying it soon. He nearly gagged on that thought. He hurried back to the old folk's home, depositing the items on the counter. The receptionist caught his eye for a moment, giving him a look that begged him not to ask about the list. He nodded once, turning away from her with a slightly sickened frown on his face.

“Don't tell,” he murmured.

HELP THE ELDERLY

DESCRIPTION: An old people’s home which promotes independence of the elderly in Kusagakure has requested some shinobi to go out and buy the items that a certain old gent or lady has requested. Due to the short timelimit, your agility as a shinobi comes in to play and you must be successful in collecting the items, as any wrong things bought may result in the mission being jeopardized! The items can range from soap to ready-made meals and the mission is fairly straight forward, so try not to mess up!
OBJECTIVE: Buy the items on the list and deliver them to the elderly!
MININUM SHINOBI: 1
PAY: 25 EXP and 500 Ryo.

Tsukune made a displeased sound as he sat impatiently in a plastic chair. He was sitting in the lobby of an old folk's home, awaiting a list of objects he needed to obtain. It was a petty mission, but he reminded himself for the third time that it was the lot of genin to get the lowest missions on the ladder. Someone needed to support the economy of the country, and it was better to give those jobs to kids than waste the talents of the high ranked shinobi on it. He was technically a genin, so he was just going to have to deal with it.

As he was musing, the aid finally walked up to him, a piece of paper clutched in her hands. Tsukune smiled at her warmly. She was a petite little thing, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She was the picture of the girl next door. She had to have the heart of one, too, to be working with the elderly. It was just one of those things you had to have a passion for, and Tsukune sure as hell didn't. She explained how important the list was to the client, and he reassured her with a light smile and an acquiescing word.

Standing up, he took the piece of paper from her, shaking her hand with his free one. He turned and walked back into the sunlight, savouring it. The weather in the village was excellent around this time of year. He let a smirk slip across his face for a brief moment, then he looked down at the paper in his hand. There was a nearly illegible list, short and sweet, scrawled across it in black ink. He scanned the items, his eyebrows raising. A jar of peanut butter. Two ping-pong balls. A horse whip. One cucumber. Bring back ASAP!

Tsukune stared down at the list.

What... the fuck.

“Excuse me.”

His words were soft and polite. It was far different than the last time he had been standing before the Assistant's desk. He had been a heated during that, he supposed. No sense wasting time worrying about it now. This time, he simply looked at the assistant, his face neutral, before setting a few sheaves of paper on the assistants desk; mission listings. Technically speaking, he was a genin with no mission record, after everything that had happened. He needed to rectify that if he intended to improve. “May I take these missions, please?”

DESCRIPTION: A certain wealthy woman in Kusagakure has a problem- It’s nothing too concerning to the village itself, but she believes it to be the worst thing to happen since the shinobi war. Her cat Fluffles has several times ran away from home and has required assistance in order to find him, and it seems that despite after years and years of escaping the family home, Fluffles continues to toy with the poor woman’s emotions and has gone missing once more- Will anything stop this cat?
OBJECTIVE: Find Fluffles and return him to his owner!
MININUM SHINOBI: 1
PAY: 25 EXP and 500 Ryo.

CUTTING BACK THE FOREST
RANK: D
DESCRIPTION: Despite the fact that Kusagakure is widely known as a village that harbours all kinds of plants, not all of them are ones that citizens want to see in the village. Sometimes the plants get out of hand and they need cutting back in order to prevent them from growing over paths and becoming menaces, and because of that the village has requested shinobi to go out and cut back some of the plants that have started to become overgrown- cut them back by any means necessary, but don’t go overboard and destroy the plants!
MININUM SHINOBI: 1
OBJECTIVE: Prune some trees and bushes!
PAY: 25 EXP and 500 Ryo.

Muchi Moshi no Jutsu (Supposing Ignorance Technique)

Type: Supplementary / Ototon Ninjutsu
Range: Touch.
Handseals: Yes.
Chakra: Very Low.
Special: Lasts for up to one round, plus one more for each time retrained. Can be broken by a specifically-directed chakra surge of Very Low or higher.
Description: The user forms the hand seals, channelling chakra into their hands. They then touch the target's ear, using the minute sound of the contact to set up a subtle vibration that interferes with the function of the ear, causing a painless sense of temporary deafness. However, the technique is rarely used on enemies, as a directed chakra surge of the same strength, focused on the ears, can very easily break the technique.
Domain: Ototon. Ototon Ryuuken 'D.'

Hebesuifu no Jutsu (Drunken Sailor Technique)

Type: Offensive / Ototon Ninjutsu
Range: 25 meters.
Handseals: Yes.
Chakra: Mid.
Special: Effects everyone in range, save for the user. The user must stay still and maintain the last hand seal (Bird.) The sound takes a certain amount of time to take effect, depending on the user's highest rank of this technique:

• D: Full Turn.
  
• C: 3/4ths of a Turn.
  
• B: Half of a Turn.
  
• A: 1/4th of a Turn.
  
• S: Near-Instant.

Description: The user forms the hand seals, creating a continuous sound such as a yell or a whistle. Using that sound as a medium, the user creates a constant stream of selective vibrations all around them. These sounds are designed to bypass the outer ear and assault the inner ear, disrupting the target's sense of balance. This induces a false sense of paralyzing vertigo, causing the target to stumble and vomit painfully, immobilizing them for the duration of the technique. Primarily designed as a stalling technique.
Domain: Ototon. Ototon Ryuuken 'C.'

Shousen no Jutsu (Mystical Hand Technique)

-Not So Alone

Akikou.

It was a beautiful name. He watched as she approached, sizing her up. She was a little under his height, and looked to be around his age. She didn't have the same world-weary look that he did, after his years of war, but her physical form certainly suggested that someone who had only just finished growing into an adult. She had skin darker than his, with striking blue eyes and brown hair tied into a ponytail. Her attire, a blue tank-top over blue pants and a brown hakama, fit her figure well, and was probably nice and cool in this warm weather.

“I am surprised, yes.” His tone was friendly, if a bit cautious. He watched her for a moment more, quietly considering her words. “I'm Tsukune. I've only just returned to the village and it's all a bit... overwhelming.” That was something of an understatement, he reflected dryly. He opened his other eye, fixing her with a more alert look. It seemed only polite, after all. He pushed his back of off the tree, facing her more fully. She seemed a lot more confused than he did, even if she was mostly content with it.

I wonder.

“Do you know how you got here, Akikou-san?” My question was innocent, but pointed. It was only a guess, but she barely seemed to recognize t he village at all. The way she looked around suggested that it was the first time she had seen most of the things around her, but she moved with an ease and familiarity that suggested she had been here before. It was hard to make sense of the conflicted pieces of information. More important than that, he didn't like the idea of leaving a girl to wander about without a clue...

-The Authority Of A Goddess

Enthusiasm.

Well, he had that. He had a lot more hope and drive in him at the moment then he'd felt in years. Not since before his team had started to die all around him. He twitched slightly, shaking the thought away like nothing more than an annoying fly. She kept her eyes on him, a somewhat disconcerting sensation. It was as though needles were boring into his skull. He refused to look away, however. From what he knew of her, she was not one to take kindly to weakness and insecurity.

Her?

The thought had never occurred to him. He had no conception of her abilities, but immediately the pieces clicked into place. She was a medic, then, at least in some capacity. As he contemplated this, she was suddenly up and moving, her feet alighting on her desk. Her hand came at him, outstretched. His reactions kicked in and he brought his arms up, crossing them in an 'x' before himself. He was but a moment too slow, however, and before he could shape his block properly, she had given him a light blow in the forehead.

At least, it looked like a light blow. The force of it pushed him back, and he just barely managed to prevent himself from falling on his rear. Such things weren't dignified, at least not in the office of the Kusakage. He brought his composure under control, and he stood, brushing himself off slightly. He looked at her, settling behind her desk, and delivered her a deep bow. “I see,” He said, his voice low and respectful. “As you wish, Kusakage-sama.” With those words, he turned and strode from the room.
