My handbag was rather heavier than usual, having crammed our provided supplies inside it. It was charming, really, them giving us such goodies. Almost like we were being paid to go on a picnic! Of course, border patrol was a serious occupation, but i couldn't help doubt anything of note happening. I was to meet him out there, so we could immediately begin, but i was in no rush. Not simply because mcqueen heels and rushing were two words that did not know one another, but also because this mission meant we would spend a great deal of time alone, and that worried me, to some degree. I mean, of course we were used to each others' company, it was, after all, what we had known for years, and in some cases, all we had known, being rather unusual and not making much of an effort with other shinobi. But i was still different around him. Still moved a little more natural, held my head a little higher... It was stupid to pretend he didn't affect me, but more so to pretend that it could mean anything.

Careful not to get a heel stuck in the earth, i made my way to our meeting point, trying desperately not to frown. Things had been this way since the academy, really, when we were thrown into a squad together. Of course, initially, he had disliked me, a bit too flamboyant and out there, even as a youngster. But spending that much time together, saving each others' necks... It wasn't something that happened without two people becoming close. And as such, i think my flaws sank to the bottom, and i was buoyed up by his simple tolerance of me. And now, after it all, we're rather inseparable. Although, i do hope it's not simply me being clingy. That would never do. Do i love him? It's nothing quite as simple as that, darling. Do i ever want to be without him? Not a chance.

The country border was coming up faster than i'd anticipated, and i could already feel my heart's pace quickening at the thought of simply seeing him. On the surface, i was completely in control. My perfectly made-up face betraying no emotion, not even a twitch of bright orange, my choice in lipstick today, to give away my feelings. Maybe that's why i wear so much makeup... to hide from him. Oh sweetie, how terribly cliche! But there he is. Smile now, shoulders back...

Mission Subject: We need you troops! The border is only partially covered by the Samurai protectors for now, so we need you to patrol the areas not covered, which should last an entire morning or afternoon depending on when you set out. You will be given enough food and supplies to last you the afternoon, anything more you wish to bring will be your own things and will not come from the village.
Special Requests: Although I would prefer this be done in teams, you may do this solo, if I see you as fit to do so. It's a C-rank so we're not expecting too much trouble.
Notes: Look out for squirrels!

Border patrol, huh? Hadn't that essentially been what Kain had just done? He and Coco had been wandering out from the gates and stumbled upon a foreign ninja, one that was too close to the gates for comfort - and although Kain DID have every intention of cutting him to bits, the Mist ninja threw the first punch.. and, well, we know how that ended for him! But here he was, OFFICIALLY watching the borders, and what a piece of shit this was. He had mentally decided that he was going to get double pay for this, and not to mention he still had the head of the intruder, so you best believe he was going to get a bounty and reward from that, too! Unfortunately for him, here he was, only hours after his most recent kill and he already wanted to go out for more - which is where the slight sense of excitement in this mission came from! Kain, although outwardly appearing lazy sprawled out on the ground, was actually somewhat looking forward to lurking around the countryside, keeping an eye out for any threats - and, more importantly, potential prey!

"Right!"

He jumped to his feet, quickly shaking the dust and dirt off his clothing (he couldn't be bothered getting an earful from Coco) and immediately moved to sit on a large rock instead. This was pretty much the exact same scenario that played out this morning, but this time their roles were reversed, although rather than sitting about Kain had all his weapons and equipment laid out in front of him. With a face that showed he was putting a lot of thought into this! There were kunai, shuriken, explosive tags and explosive pouches (half of these courtesy of the mist shinobi!), and while this was all fine and dandy, it was a real big cluttered mess. He would need to sell off some of this gear, and while he was at it he really needed to get himself a new set of weights, seeing as the ones currently on his ankles weren't even noticeable at this point. But that there was the annoying part, he needed money for all of this, and he could not STAND doing missions to get paid, let alone stand the village itself as of late. I mean, other shinobi were out scouting entire villages, and here they were, watching the fucking border!

"This is shit!"

Coincidentally he said it right as Coco approached, and in little more than a few minutes that one thought had put him from excited, to totally unhappy with this all! He threw all of his items back into his pouch with a sour demeanor, then immediately stepped off the rock in Coco's direction, dropping to his feet and watching her approach. Her bag was noticeably stuffed to its limits, and Kain didn't know what she was trying to bring along with her, or why she even carried things around in there in the first place - it was awfully impractical for a shinobi! His right arm came upwards, digits pushing themselves into spiky, unkempt hair, and he just maintained a sort of confused expression as she neared,

"What's in the bag?"

His first thought was of course something useless, like a change of clothes.

He certainly didn't look happy. Had something happened to annoy him? Then again, he had a bad tendency to get annoyed at nothing in particular, so it was wiser just not to ask.
"You never ask a lady what's in her handbag, you know." I said, smiling what was, in my mind, a mysterious and intriguing smile. Of course, aside from the treats provided, there was the usual jumble of wonderful items. My cosmetics, naturally, as well as a few tangled necklaces and bracelets, a book or two, strands of ribbon, which i have found no use for yet, my purse, cigarettes, a few stray senbon... i'll stop there.
"What have you been up to? Caught sight of any intruders?" I asked, knowing full well that he had been bored until my arrival. Looking around, i shielded my striking eyes against the sun, full lashes batting against my hand as i squinted into the distance.
"I hope something happens on this mission. If all else fails, samurai are supposed to be guarding these borders too. We can throw things at them when we get bored!" I said cheerfully, wandering over to the rock that he had just vacated, and laying out a few things atop it. Bottles of water, important for healthy skin and just about everything else, a few pieces of fruit, rather uninspiring, and some sweet rice balls, rather more tasty.
"We've been given provisions, isn't that sweet? Admittedly, they're not exactly up to par with my usual consumption, and a bottle of wine would've been nice, but i suppose it's free, after all."

I wasn't suggesting we eat them yet, simply getting them out. After all, i supposed we ought to actually patrol, rather than camp out in one spot. That was tedious, wandering the border... i wonder why i actually chose this mission? I sat down beside the food, still scanning the horizon.
"It's more of a precaution than anything, isn't it? Before, i would've asked who would bother to seek out iwa, with its current less~than~impressive state, but then, we met that mist shinobi..." It was still nagging on my mind. Although, perhaps iwa's rather weak state was not current knowledge, after all? Oh dear, this village. It was just not fitting for somebody like me! Somebody fabulous and ambitious, somebody with much, much bigger things awaiting them than the dirt and dust of iwagakure.

Sighing, i tossed back my hair, snatching up one of the bottles of water and reclining further on the rock.
"We simply have to get out of here sweetie! See the sights, meet the big names, steal the most luxurious treasures... After we wander the borders for a couple of hours, of course." And with that, i stepped gracefully to my feet, sipping a little water, before tucking the foot all back in my bag, and swinging it onto my arm.
"Let's get started shall we? I believe if we continue on this way," i gestured with a bright red nail, "we'll be alongside ame, and we can follow on beside kusa. By the time we're on the border with taki, i'd say we've done more than enough." I said, consulting my map just to be sure.

It was a drag, and my feet would probably hurt by the end of the trek, but we were shinobi after all. Such things were simply another aspect of our work! And so, with a few weary steps, i began to walk, dazzling blonde flowing out behind me as i slipped into strut.

His confused, yet interested, expression had quickly morphed into one of annoyance. Of course, she had to remind him that the samurai were lurking around THEIR borders, protecting THEIR village, what the fuck was this? Were they ninja, or were they samurai? Throughout the course of his life, these two worlds had never met (at least in his experience), and if anything, Kain got the impression that this was a silent takeover of sorts. A devastating war cripples all the shinobi villages, and then the Samurai silently move in and incorporate themselves into not only the government, but into the security and protection of the villages? Maybe it was due to him being a Kagehebi that he could notice it so well, but the Samurai were sure being snaky with these tactics, and he couldn't help but feel he was the only one seeing this all! The Kage of his village had basically rolled over and accepted it all, then left the brunt of the work to the Samurai, leaving Genin like Coco and himself to cover the sections they weren't patrolling?

"Fucking Samurai! I'm wanna do more than throw things at them.."

He turned to the rock, quickly snatching a water bottle of his own, keeping it in his hand for the walk. It was going to be long and tedious, but they were getting paid for it he supposed, although this didn't change just how unhappy he was with this whole scenario. What were the other villages up to? How were they recovering? Were they as submissive to the Samurai as Iwa was? What were their plans for the coming years? Kain didn't like his position in all of this one bit, and to be honest, he was open to new goals - and allegiances, provided it was promising enough, of course. Kain just kinda stood there, listening as she went over their course, taking a couple glances at the map, somewhat unsure of what exactly they'd do on this trek. Essentially all they had to do was take a big walk and keep an eye out for anything obvious, they had the entire afternoon ahead of them to do so and the sooner he got away from all this the better. With a nod of his head to Coco, Kain proceeded to trail on behind her as he often did, taking this time to pay more attention to opening his water more than anything.

"They really did give us awfully plain supplies.."

He tore the top off, bringing the bottle to his lips and taking a few sips, then spinning the cap back on and tucking the bottle into his pocket. And so, off the two went, walking along not on a designated path, but in just a general direction. Odds were they weren't going to run into anything, and already being in a bad mood over things wasn't good as it was, but having no fun while on this mission was just going to put him in a rather vile state. Kain was fairly temperamental, and despite the fact he was rather clever he tended to lose his cool - and not in the sense that he'd get mad, either.. he just, well, he'd get a little crazy. Boots thudded into the ground rather loudly as he walked on, now being to Coco's side rather than behind her. His machete clanged on his left hip, while the severed head of the mist shinobi bounced around in his satchel. And while it was still sunny, it was apparent by its lower position in the sky that at some point this mission would carry out during the night, and they both knew how he liked to prowl around in the dark!

"Y'know, I'm really get sick of th-"

He stopped, not just his sentence, but his walking too. Crimson eyes had set their sights well off into the distance, he had noticed the faintest of movements, just enough to catch his attention, and what he seen he did not like. The armour, the swords, it was clear what they were.. Samurai. Not but a few minutes into their patrol did they catch sight of them, after Kain had just finished thinking about how much he disliked it all, and it was taking a whole lot of willpower not to just cut them down right now!

"Oi, up ahead.."

He spoke quietly to Coco, nodding his head in the direction of the foreigners, although she had probably noticed them too when Kain stopped moving. Snaky-eyes watched the men, ill-intent written all over his face, but this was not the time nor place for that.. or was it?

My Kage Bunshin entered the scene quietly, the dirty brown poncho I had opted to wear as part of our cover during our search replicated in his body. Now, as he penetrated Tsuchi's countryside after backtracking the group's approach into Iwa, he would be met with a very interesting surprised - out in the distance, some 40 meters away, lie two shinobi. Pausing momentarily, they looked away, to his North-West, at something in the distance. With their backs to him, he doubted they would be able to see my approach, Regardless however, knowing he was in enemy lands, no one was to be spared. Time to go to work.

"..."

He began his approach, a slow trot adopted as his eyes, burning with chakra, remained fixated on the two. Under the cloak his hands began to jitter - let the fight begin!

With the troop's inability to properly recognize an enemy within the hidden merchant, my clone would act swiftly, as would I. Chakra briefly surging throughout his body, the clone would disappear momentarily before reappearing 15 meters to their back, while they were still captivated with something off in the distance. Sharingan helped guide my clone's Shimmering Flicker [5/10] in case they somehow turned and caught him, but given their stillness, it was doubtful they would.

You get to be part of the lucky ones...

...I wonder!?

Time was not wasted. His gauntlets aglow under the folds of the dirty cloak as they charge the power of Raiton, the raven-haired clone would unleash an intense chain of lightning that aimed to catch them both - the male first, with the female following. Paralysis was expected within seconds of the lightning's inception, and although he had the power to claim their life, the voice of experience would butt in - nothing more valuable than hostages, it said!

Time to go...

As such, should the chain strike, my clone would keep the deep-blue shock until their bodies could handle no more, surrendering to the momentary loss of consciousness and nothing less. If all went well and the thunder struck, the crimson kumo-shinobi copy would rush to snatch up their lifeless bodies. One under each arm, he'd struggle to meet back with his master, and return home with their new trophies.

Erratic movement disrupts the chain’s effectiveness. Each extra victim within the chains raises the chakra cost of this technique.
Description: An advanced version of ‘Shooting Thunder’, the Chain of Lightning allows the user to pass strong currents of lightning from victim to victim within a thirty meter radius. After a series of handseals, the user outstretches their hands, and the energy focusing within is displaced rapidly towards their target. Once they are hit, the victims are paralyzed and helpless, and the bolt then proceeds to jump and hit anyone else within range. Excellent when outnumbered, though one must use it with care, for it takes a great toll on the user’s chakra pool.
