Somewhere along the outskirts of the Forest of Death, a single lone shinobi stood. His hazel eyes briefly skimmed the leaflet held in hand as the young man muttered a few words to himself. Casually meandering through the nearby forests, he’d quickly recap the mission objectives out loud while taking little care to conceal himself. “Curb the wildlife. Pick a few half-clovers. Easy enough.”
Though a bit contrary to the stereotype of stealthy, assassin-like ninjas, after some consideration it’d become rather obvious that Anders had done so on purpose. In announcing his presence to the forest without a care in the world, the Chuunin had hoped to lure out the more bold creatures which had been causing the locals trouble. Tramping about in a methodical fashion, he’d bee line deep into the confines of the forest, slowing pace once the more minor creatures had dissipated. If the more common wildlife were unwilling to traverse in this part of the forest, chances were high that he’d find his indicated prey.
While doing so, he’d also keep a keen eye out for these two leafed clovers described in the mission briefing. Pausing repeatedly along the way by numerous four leaf clovers, he’d stop momentarily to stomp them out of existence. In doing so, he had aimed to clean out the immediate perimeter of these false prin with the hopes of curbing growth of unwanted flora, allowing the more desirable plants to flourish. Given several hours of this methodical but most likely fruitless eradication, he’d eventually stumble across several impudent beasts, specifically a pack of feral wolves.
Fangs bared and snouts snarling at the individual, he’d take a few challenging steps forward while showing his own toothy grin to match their aggression. A pristinely cleaned and well-honed wakizashi was draw from its sheath as he proceeded. “Well, well. What do we have here?” Clearly threatened by his advances, these instinctual animals charged forth, leaping at him from multiple directions at once in an attempt to devour the shinobi. These primordial tactics however were by far insufficient. Relying on technique rather than strength, the wakizashi had already begun the culling. With a single swift rotation, a triplet of thrusts was delivered, perforating the throats of three creatures respectively. Their lifeless corpses fell from the air as blood erupted violently from the release of stored pressure. Having witnessed such a one sided slaughter, the remaining victims had backed off cautiously and had begun to flee as a unit.
Rather than notching an arrow however, Jack had opted differently. Containing the necessary skill set to not only out pace but track these feral beasts, he’d follow them with relative ease while concealing himself. To his fearful prey, it’d appear that the forest invader had mercifully allowed for their escape. In reality however, a more malevolent plan had been enacted as he trailed the pack back to its den. Upon finding the remnants of their pack, he’d appear once more like a demon of slaughter.
Left with no real alternative, his former aggressors bared fangs at him once more, only to meet the lukewarm steel blade drenched in their clan mate’s sanguine blood. Given the gap in strength, it was a rather short lived affair. The entrance of the den was strewed with canine corpses littering the premise and all was silent… save for the den itself. From within, the weak whimpering of several smaller creatures could be heard, most likely the newly orphaned pups. With a skeptical look, Jack paused at the entrance while briefly reviewing the mission details. If one were to be specific, these pups fell outside the jurisdiction of his culling. They were not aggressive, nor did they trouble local villagers. After considering this point, he’d scoff loudly and crumple up the paper. “To hell with the details. That man isn't going to take my shit anyway.” Reaching swiftly into his pouch, he’d withdraw several globs of explosive clay. It was clear that the man’s original intentions were to simply collapse the cave in and be done with it. He’d pause however and neatly repackage the clay back within the confines of his bag after several considerations. First. The exploding clay wasn’t exactly free, nor was he wealthy. Second. If the prin happened to be within the cave itself… he’d most likely spend the next several hours kicking himself while excavating the entrance. Instead, he’d opt to enter the cave with a lit torch and search it manually. As for the pups… Well, let’s just say that the whimpering stopped.
With his search of the cave completed, he’d then proceed to the second stage of his cleansing. Leaving the corpses out intentionally, the Chuunin would spend the next several days repeating the process. In this time, he’d search the nearby area for prin while monitoring the eradicated den. Chances were high that other more gluttonous beasts would come at the prospect of free food and housing. And when they did… the vicious cycle repeated itself once more. Moving from one den to the next in a similar fashion, he’d continue to eliminate the wild life while in search of the required prin. If these animals were fortunate, he’d stumble across some sooner rather than later.
