Shatter the Sky! [ Training | Private ]

With a tiresome sigh, I fell back and spread my arms out to my sides. Laying on my roof, I chose to stare at the midday sky; a small rest from the training of my Kagura Mind's Eye. It was, admittedly, getting a little tiring and more than a bit tedious. Unfortunately, it was both a slow and a boring process, in which I sacrificed my true vision for a new sort of sight. Sometimes I found it to be more true than my real vision; I could, for instance, tell when people were lying. Though a useful tool, it certainly wasn't my favorite to train as it was.

Groaning, I pushed myself from the shingles of my roof into a sitting position. I came here often, whether to train a technique that required little physical effort, or simply when I was thinking. The wind was warm, and the view of the village was pretty nice, depending on my mood. But now wasn't the time for me to lounge around! Now, I had to keep myself occupied training my abilities, in order to assist everyone better. That, of course, was my ultimate goal; making those I cared about happy.

With a frown, I realized that I no longer had anyone I truly cared about. Not that I didn't care about everyone in the village, or even the world, because I did--but I had no one I was close to anymore. All those that had been close to me were gone, and now I was alone. Still, it wasn't something that bothered me; in fact, I was happy as it was! But my visions of the future were far more blissful than even now, despite my contentment, because they were filled with friends and comrades, people I'd sacrifice myself for in an instant.

And now was the time for me to prepare for that future. It wouldn't come to me, I'd have to make it happen. That wasn't something I could do without a lot of hard work, and this was part of that! With a new determination and a massive smile, I formed the 'ram' seal with my hands and delved into the eye of my mind as I gave up my real vision. My focus was the source of jounin-level chakra that had been on the second floor of the Hokage's Tower, which was hopefully still there waiting inside. I couldn't quite reach it with my standard reach, so I began to pump more and more chakra into widening the range. After a moment of concentration, I was again able to "view" the tower with my new sight, and, sure enough, the source of high level chakra was still there! With a grin, I focused on holding my technique out that far, by concentrating on that once chakra signature. For many moments, despite my struggle, I was able to sense out that far. Unfortunately, eventually I failed and my sense returned back to approximately twenty-seven meters.

Again I tried to push my senses out, but unlike before I couldn't force myself any farther than I was. It had been a struggle before, I knew that, but now I couldn't do it at all. While it was quite irritating that I simply couldn't, there wasn't much I could do. I was getting closer and closer. Nearly every time I pushed my senses out, when I finally failed and my mind's eye pulled back to a comfortable range, it would increase. The increases were small, but they added up more than well enough. However, by constantly using the technique and pushing myself passed the limits I was under, my reserves of chakra were beginning to noticeably dwindle. Unsatisfied but undeniably tired, I decided I'd call it good for a while and rest.

So, like before, I'd fall lazily onto my bed and wrap myself in darkness. This time, however, I'd allow myself to be drawn into unconsciousness by it. It was easy--with my chakra low as it was, my body was more weary than I cared to admit. So as I sat indulged in black, I simply closed my eyes. This time, though, I couldn't feel any chakra; I'd used my mind's eye so much that day, it was nearly a foreign sensation. Simply darkness, and nothing more. No smells or sounds, only the feeling of my bed and the cool air.

"Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!" I awoke with a surprising amount of energy. "That was such a good nap!" With a wide grin, I hopped out of my bed and opened the window before leaping out of it. "Alright!" Deciding it would be more challenging for me to locate the same chakra signature I had focused on before, as he'd likely have moved, as opposed to searching within the tower, I formed the 'ram' hand seal and closed my eyes. Like I had done all day, I could feel the presence of all the living beings around me by their unique chakra. Not a single jounin-level shinobi was anywhere within my range, though, so I could only assume he'd be farther out. Hopefully he wouldn't be too far, or I wouldn't succeed from my current perch atop my roof.

Something else caught my attention, however, before I began my search. A dwindling chakra signature, nearly completely faded and obviously much more powerful than it currently was. This one was so far gone, there was no way it was simply going for a stroll! In fact, if I were to judge, it would be struggling with a near-fatal wound. I nearly broke my concentration and leaped from the roof to help before I realized that it was coming from within the hospital. I was a Medic-nin, but the hospital most certainly had more skilled medics than I, so I could only hope that they'd recover. The only thing I could say regarding their recovery was that their chakra wasn't decreasing, only sitting at a dangerously low level.

I sighed without closing my Mind's Eye or breaking my hand seal, and figured I should distract myself with searching for that jounin. I knew his chakra signature, now, so not just any jounin would do. My body tensed as I forced my chakra into the technique, and it expanded with a struggle, though still far easier than before. Perhaps thirty meters out, I felt three strong chakra, none of which belonged to the jounin I was searching for. However, just before the range of my chakra sense faded back to a twenty-eight feet, I felt him enter my range near the other jounin! With a grin, I concentrated on the area I had sensed him.

Moments later, I was able to feel him enter my range, and frowned. If he was approaching me, I wouldn't have to work to find him, and any training I'd complete by focusing on him was diminished to an insignificant value. So I diverted my attention back to the hospital, where I searched for the obviously injured shinobi. I felt his chakra drop to nearly nothing before rising back to its previous level.

"Shit! What are they doing?!" I couldn't help but ask it aloud in anger, partially because I knew the ninja could die any time, and partially because, even though I knew it was going on, I couldn't do anything about it. With a frown, I gritted my teeth and broke my concentration, so as to not sense the dwindling chakra any longer.

For a while longer I sat there, focusing on sensing everything around me but that single dwindling chakra signature. It was a hard task, probably harder than pushing my limits and breaking the range of my mind's eye, even. Still, I managed, somehow; I chose new targets to focus on, following them as they walked out of my range. Deciding that a solid ten meter increase to my capabilities, from 20 to 30 meters, would be satisfactory, I focused on achieving that final meter I needed. Twenty-nine meters was so close, but I realized that it was very far, as well, when it came to forcing myself passed my limitations. Surely, I'd done it many times before the same day, but each time put a strain on my now recovered chakra reserves.

I was getting used to the vision I'd been training all day. It wasn't as if I hadn't been before, but now it felt almost completely natural. Like my normal vision. Despite its ease of use, before it always felt foreign and strange, and I'd often hurry to use it before breaking the technique and returning my vision. My true goal in the utilization of this technique was to use it both without seals and without the need to close my eyes; I knew it was a goal that took a lot of effort and a sort of mastery over the technique, but it would be invaluable once I could utilize it as such. I'd be able to immediately sense any presence I hadn't expected, or track those moving too fast for my eyes to track. I'd fight more effectively and keep everyone safer.

As I'd thought before, stronger presences were easier to focus on and follow, as they made a much larger impression on my senses. Yet, somehow, the weakest chakra trail of all was the one I was struggling to avoid; it seemed to reach out to me in a sort of desperation, rather than sit idly by like the rest. It was dying and I didn't know what to do. I was a medic, and I even worked at the hospital, but I was far from the most skilled medic we had. They would be there now, working to save that person, but it was as if they were wailing within my mind for someone to save them. So, despite my earlier success, I could no longer avoid the presence of the dying. Knowing that I wouldn't be satisfied if I didn't go check, but also that I wouldn't be able to help, I decided to guide my way to the hospital utilizing my mind's eye.

With a simple push I was soaring through the air, landing on the ground beneath the roof of my apartment in a crouch. There, I formed the needed hand seal and closed my eyes before making my way to the hospital. I avoided people well, but those things that weren't living held no chakra trail, and so I'd have to break my technique in order to avoid buildings and such in my path. Fortunately, during my trek, I managed to avoid running into anything solid completely, though I proceeded cautiously and slowly. Perhaps due to my constant use of the technique, I could feel the range of my senses naturally expanding. It was little at a time, but by the time I reached the hospital, I estimated that I was able to sense chakra trails approximately 30 meters away. With a wide grin, I broke my technique and pounded my fists together.

Now, it was time to go check if the hospital needed my medical skills!

It was apparent the hospital was far too full with workers to need me, and judging by my mind's eye, they were succeeding in treating the one I'd been worried about. Thus, I made my way out.
