Akio wasn't sure exactly what emotions he was feeling as he walked through Leaf. He was in disregard of his location, walking aimlessly through the busy streets as citizens of all kinds avoided him. His mind reminisced actively. He thought of his home. The Land of Iron. This place was so unfamiliar. Not uncomfortable. Not unpleasant (save for the mass of ninja lurking about) but the weather and environment were nonetheless enjoyable.
Even this drastic weather change bothered him. THe Land of Iron was harsh, not uninhabitable but harsh. Akio was almost always at least slightly cold. He was told that even their weather was made to hone their survivability. They would learn to cope. As Akio's mind continued to wander, he began to remember some of his training. Now, it was always inherent, ever present, even when he wasn't conscious of it. Though now, he thought of it deliberately, allowing the action.
"Akio"
His mind had transported him to the Land of Iron. It was snow blanketed everywhere, though the evergreens still stood tall. Before him was his personal trainer. His sensei. He required no thought to remember the man's name.
"Roku-Ishi"
He was tall as Akio but more sturdily built and with a great lightly grayed beard. In his right hand he held a sword that Akio would now recognize as a ninjato. Back then however he registered it simply as a straight piece of steel. "Before I can grant you the honor of your personal blade you must formalize yourself with other weaponry. This is a ninjato. Typical to ninja too weak to carry heavy swords and without the preference of the katana."
They stood off a snowy hill. A tall hill at that and dotted with nearby trees. Without warning (although Akio was unsurprised) Roku-Ishi swung the slender blade into the wood of the tree. It penetrated the bark quite deeply, moving close to a foot inside the tree before momentum stopped it inside the wood. Akio was sure Roku-Ishi's strength was at least partly responsible.
"You need to be wary of this blade. It is lighter than the standard katana, and thus faster. Maintain distance against this blade, or catch a blindspot. Akio nodded slowly. His normal quirk when answering seriously and honestly. His memory was hazy of this encounter. Their surroundings were shrouded in the fog of forget. However Roku-Ishi moved several paces backward and Akio's mind remembered the sound of clings of metal. Akio remembered now. Roku-Ishi was educating him on different blades. Their class had taught him a lot, Akio thought, and this knowledge had become invaluable over the years.
He waited for his sensei to return.
