Domain: Doton. The open expanse welcomed him with the cool embrace of the morning. A slight breeze tugged at the aureate tresses comely nestled atop his head, which seemed to shimmer against the dawn's twilight. He had been awake for quite some time and, after some deliberation, had finally convinced himself it was time he tightened his grasp on an affinity of his: geomancy. It was ordinary for one born within the boundaries of Earth Country to be naturally inclined toward terrakinesis and Uekyuuchi was no exception. Contrarily, he had focused more on expanding his influence in skills he'd found himself more intimate with as a person, such as clan and medicinal arts, while shunning those that could be exploited under the banner of war. Unfortunately his values could not outweigh the overbearing truth that in the wake of war forever loomed the shadow of revanche. It was because of this that he would need to be ready and willing to protect himself, and the ones that he loved, at all costs. His eyes, open and accepting, closed slowly at the draw of a breath. There was no need to waste any more valuable time, and given his inexperience with influencing the matter around him, he would be forced to start fresh with the knowledge he already possessed. Preternatural chakra control was a must in both his areas of expertise which left him with a slight advantage in terms of precipitating techniques that centered around furbishing oneself. Unfortunately this didn't easily extend into the field of ambient manipulation but Uekyuuchi had no intentions of letting that slow his progress. After a filling breath, upon the exhale, his hands were clasped together tightly to form a solid seal. Interlacing fingers represented the serpent, the catalyst of this technique, who coincidentally would always be the closest to the soil he intended to control. But being unfamiliar with any other way to manipulate his wellspring of energy left Ue with no choice other than to trek down a conversant path, with the outcome of such an arbitrary action being totally unknown to him.

Domain: Doton. The feeling was all too familiar, the comfortable agitation at the the pit of his stomach signified that his chakra pool was reacting to his call. Normally, with most medicinal techniques, he would simply have to direct the flow of energy into a corresponding appendage to produce the desired effect but this was, for lack of a better word, different. Common sense told him he should concentrate the stream toward the bottoms of his feet in an attempt to acquire some influence on the soil beneath him. However, basic shinobi teachings specified that without the proper transmogrification this would only provide him the platform to walk on water's surface. The idea was scrapped and Uekyuuchi found himself back at the drawing board, but not for long. The previous miscalculation would lead him into a method that was not only more practical, but readily applicable when given it's deserved attention. Rather than burden himself with the where and when he turned his attention to the how. The transformation process was obviously the first step in this equation and so he set forth to usher in it's completion. He slid a foot outward to provide himself a shoulder-width foundation that would anchor him to the ground while he focused. As evidenced by the trial and error of those before him, everything the world had to offer contained within itself a source of energy that was akin to the elemental natures now commonly wielded by shinobi. It was tapping into the source that revealed the potential to specialize one's own natural energy, which in turn took on the attributes of it's progenitor. A stunning revelation indeed but, as life often revealed, knowledge without application becomes waste. Uekyuuchi now knew exactly how to go about solving his problem and promptly took to doing so by allowing the energy of the landmass beneath him to enter through the tenketsu on the soles of his feet. It was then that the alteration process began, evidenced by his chakra pool's sudden stimulation. He'd tapped into his own energy reserves many times before and this feeling was noticeably foreign, which left Uekyuuchi somewhat reluctant to submit himself entirely to it. But like the old saying went, "Go hard or go home," and as a resident defender of the Village Hidden in the Rocks going anything but hard seemed almost irreverent.

Domain: Doton. With the alteration process underway there still remained the problem of where he was supposed to send the chakra. Given that he'd just pulled it from the ground it seemed logical to send it back the way it came after it's refinement but the doctor in him allowed his prudence to get the best of him. It just seemed too risky to do without the proper care and, rather than take an unnecessary risk, he began to mold his chakra in the manner he was most comfortable with. This newly developed earth-natured chakra began circulating throughout his entire frame. With no real destination plotted outright, he could feel the energy surge through every coil his body contained. From head to toe this earth-natured chakra roved until there was no space left to occupy. Something about this phenomena seemed incorrect but he had gone too far to turn back. The feeling of perpetual motion within himself then suddenly ceased. Uekyuuchi opened his eyes in panic before exclaiming.. "W-what is this?!

The energy had completely stagnated within it's conduits. Ue released the seal in hopes to reverse what had been done but that's when he noticed his skin had taken on a deep pigment. He lifted a hand to rub his arm only to notice that the texture no longer retained the elasticity of human skin. Contrarily, it felt exactly like a rock. To further test this he removed his knife from his side and attempted to lacerate himself to no avail.

Although the discovery was a mistake it could've been useful given it's implementation in the correct scenario, he thought, but if he had no control over it there was no point even trying. So what was he to do? He could already tell that this brief intermission had been mitigating the obstructive feeling his new found "power" imposed on his movement. Even lifting a hand up to observe the changes proved to be more difficult than normal, which revealed that there was some consequence for utilizing this dermic augmentation. He would continue to test the waters, moving his fingers, arms, and every other practical appendage the fastest he could, to the best of his ability. But amid his trials came yet another inconvenience he'd be forced to deal with. A slip of parchment had fallen from his pack during a movement and, as luck would have it, a slight breeze had begun to carry it off into the distance. And as it danced ahead of him, flippantly billowing about, Ue struggled to stay behind it. It was as if he'd gained one-thousand pounds. Each step that brought him closer to piece of paper served to fuel his drive to succeed in the chase until, finally, he was an arm's length away from the map. To ensure that the breeze wouldn't further trouble him, a leap of faith left him careening in it's direction; he had hoped to land on top of it. His jumping ability was surprisingly unaffected by his recent change and landing directly on top of the paper was only a matter of time. What?! To his surprise, the soft landing he'd expected was anything but that. The surface beneath him crumbled beneath his feet and the wide-open expanse seemed to carry the sound for miles. His feet were deeply incorporated into the terrain which forced him to literally rip himself of it's grasp. When he looked down to acquire the map all he found were irreparable slivers of what was. And so he thought to himself: Maybe this power is more useful than I thought.

Although chakra control was his forte, the idea that there were still many divisions he'd yet to become familiar with had developed a "hunger" of sorts, one that could only be quelled by the richness of success. His stride across the Tsuchi no Kuni out-lands left him reminescing a time when everything about the ninja world was completely new to him. He never could've imagined that the rudimentary hand seal drills he willingly submitted himself to completing would become as instinctive as breathing when he first started them. Impulse led Ue to mold his hands into the dozen of signatures he was all too familiar with using the cadence that brought him the results he presently lived with. Tori, I, Inu, Tatsu, Ushi, Tora, Mi, Ne, Uma, Saru, U, Hitsuji The cycle continued and Uekyuuchi eventually found himself hailing his chakra reserves, conjuring forth an arbitrary amount of energy with no intention other than to assure himself that he could do such without a problem. His gait then went still before he assumed the position that afforded him the best footing. The shift between the array of signatures went incessantly as his flow of chakra became more concentrated at his feet, stimulating the tenketsu around the soles of his feet to become more receptive toward the energy naturally emitted by the soil. Suddenly, the seals that once flowed continuously became fixed onto one sign that was commonly connected with the Doton release; Snake. An increasing warmth, nestled at the center of his sternum, became apparent as a result. It was from this point that the chakra was his to manipulate willingly and from the center of his rib cage an arousing rotation, ready to be employed at any moment's notice.

The objective was to exert control over an area beneath him but without proper insight on the signs of success, he expected to endure a lengthy trial and error process. The energy put forth would create a nexus between him and the soil that, once established, would leave it susceptible to his requests. Easier said that done. Uekyuuchi didn't know where to begin this "controlling" procedure and could only fathom that whatever he imagined would be the initial spark in the process. It only made sense to start of small and thus he attempted to extend his influence toward the rocks that peppered the area around him. He fixed his attention onto a particular rock that sat just ahead of his toe and began using his chakra to tease the surface it rested on. He intended to create a suction effect that would assimilate the rock into the larger mass and only seconds passed before he began to notice a change. The stone, which was fair in size, began to sink in relation to the amount of will Ue exerted over the area beneath it. The act itself was negligible but the thought of things to come caused him to simper in contentment. Progression was an amazing thing. exit
