Description: A basic yet effective Raiton technique, the user focuses a bit of chakra all over their body, letting the lightning gather and then quickly exploding, effectively providing a blinding light that leaves all within the range blind. Useful for disorientation and quick get-aways.

The light of the morning sun reached past the peaks of the Unabara mountain tops to find Tenchishinmei Satsui already engrossed in his labors. He'd come to the secluded dojo at the top of the mountain in order to train in solidarity and peace. It had been too long since he'd undertaken such a training session and he was eager to sow the seeds and reap the benefits. His meditation had begun before dawn and now that first light had come it was time for the real work to begin. The cold, mountain air wrapped itself around him like a cloak of ice yet he didn't shiver or complain. His blue robes, of seemingly royal quality, and the thick bandages he wore beneath them kept him from feeling the wintry bite of his Step-Mother Nature. Not that he would have given the bitch the satisfaction even if he were stark naked. The training area was in the main pavilion of the dojo; the courtyard measured 50 meters on each side and held the shape of an octagon. Satsui was kneeling in the centre of the expanse of smooth earth which was neither too soft nor too hard, though it was completely barren except for the random rock or boulder.

His training had been initiated as soon as the light fell on his small frame. His chakra was summoned from an ethereal vault within his core and dispersed to the flesh and bone which made up his mortal being. This approach was quickly abandoned for the feeling of numbness it brought on was not the intended effect. After taking a breath, Satsui prepared himself once more and imagined his chakra resting just outside his skin. This image was hazy at first but, in time, the vision came to pass in his mind's eye he was able to see himself clearly. He saw a yellowish hue covering his exposed skin but nothing beyond that as his clothing hid the rest of his chakra, but he knew it the waves of Raiton energy were moving to and fro over his entire body. As the seconds turned to minutes, the image grew steadily clearer until Satsui was able to manifest said image immediately. He opened his eyes, the meditation portion complete, and was pleased to see a yellowish tint to his skin in the early morning light. He stood to his feet and took a deep breath before continuing on. The first step had been simple and he expected the rest to come just as easy.

The next portion of Satsui's jutsu training would be to extend the range of the his chakra so that it would be visible all over his body. Though his clothing obscured a large portion of it he was sure the same yellow tint now existed on all his skin. Once again, Satsui closed his eyes and allowed his chakra to fluctuate from the bare minimum to the level needed to cover his skin completely. By closing his eyes it was his goal to force himself to focus on the feeling and not the visual output which might differ as the morning light intensified. Though this particular dojo had been in his family for untold generations it was still rare for it to be in use, but Satsui enjoyed being alone and found the other training areas in Kumogakure no Sato to be too crowded for his liking. In this place of solitude, he could focus wholly on his work without being bothered by loud-mouthed braggarts or the domineering assholes who trolled for easy spars amongst the Genin outposts. 'Shit', he thought, as he felt his mind wandering from the task at hand. He'd lost track of the sensation of his fluctuating energy levels and had to pause momentarily in order to regain his rhythm. Once it had been reestablished within his mind, Satsui began pushing the outer limit of his chakra's range by a millimeter or so each time and before long the range was slowly increasing.

He could see it clearly in his mind which translated into ease in the actual execution of the task. The yellowish tint would disappear from his skin briefly before flooding back and dancing just beyond the physical confines of his body. And each time the limit of just how far it went was increased by a hair's breadth so that, before long, a light could be seen emanating from within Satsui's garments. The only things Satsui had to contend with was the tedium associated with training alone and the strain his body received from constantly modifying his energy levels. His breathing was becoming less paced and more irregular as he continued but such things were easily remedied. Satsui held his chakra level for a moment; taking the time to control one's breathing was just as much a part of training as anything else. The regular flow of oxygen to the brain and blood vessels kept the human body going and Satsui was well versed in regulating his respiratory processes. He inhaled deeply from his chest and then, with no pause in between, he sucked in even more air from his diaphragm before exhaling the lot of it. This two-staged method of breathing was one of the first things taught to the children of shinobi and one of the first things many of them forgot. But Satsui never forgot a lesson nor did he value any instruction less than any other.

His breathing in check, he proceeded to continue with the meat of his training and once again he began to let his chakra flux. Pushing the level ever so slightly was beginning to have the desired effect as the light from within his clothing was becoming the light visible on his clothing. Satsui allowed himself a moment of validation and when he opened his eyes he could clearly see the same yellowish hue resting atop his robes. The tedium was always overridden by the results and Satsui felt himself to be so renewed he thought he could continue for days. He would not allow himself to be so duped as to think his reserves were unlimited and the quiet voice within his head advised him to move things along. So Satsui let his eyes slowly shut and concentrated again on the feeling of his chakra levels rising and falling until he was able to manifest the same energy level each time without fail. He held that level for about a minute and, in doing so, grew accustomed to the sensation through his constant introspection. He'd conquered the second step and believed himself ready to move on to the final phase in the process but something was eating at the back of his consciousness. A presence, yet unidentified and perhaps unfriendly, that seemed to hang over him like a dark cloud. His eyes reopened and he found himself alone in the courtyard but the feeling lingered in the corners of his mind.

Satsui could feel himself moving past his second wind and he was by no means mentally fatigued enough to stop for a break. This was the part where his self-loathing would come raging forth and berate him for not being stronger, quicker, more in tune with his chakra. Regardless of whatever phantasms might be lurking about this was a day for training and that meant working through the difficult portions in order to gain the prize. He focused his mind on his objective and delved deeper into the mental plane where he did the majority of his training. By that point, he’d become infinitely comfortable with the task of coating his body in Raiton chakra so the next step would be projecting it from his body. The process started off slowly; each time he attempted to push the chakra away from his body the energy would become unstable and rush back towards its origin which left Satsui increasingly numb, even approaching feeling slightly paralyzed. It wasn’t that he lacked the motivation to pull of the jutsu and he was confident his reserves weren’t giving out. It was just the way he was performing the final step. He imagined the Raiton chakra covering his body as a bubble swirling over his form and enclosing him completely from the outside world. As he tried to push the bubble away from himself it would swell in some places but then burst and return to him with malicious intent. He could see that he was not pushing the entire sphere outward and instead he was putting pressure only on certain spots which resulted in him piercing the bubble.

He had to find a way of influencing the sphere of energy in its entirety or he would be met with the same results each time. He tried everything he could think of to expand the bubble but each method met with another shocking failure. He tried filling the space in between himself and the bubble with more chakra but this led to a breakdown in its stability and an even greater shock to his system than all those before it combined. He attempted to force his entire chakra system to yield its maximum power while brining the levels up but this was sloppy and inefficient, not to mention the fact that it didn't work. Satsui knew that if he continued in this way he would, without a doubt, come to the end of his chakra and he knew that would spell death for him in this forsaken wilderness. He dropped to his knees once more and started regulating his breathing as he'd done before. There was only one person he could turn to in this moment of confusion, . . . Jidaishisou.

The immortal spirit which had guided the first generations of the clan sprang into his mind and cast its fiery gaze down upon him. Where he at first might have felt the cold fingers of the mountain air- he now felt as though his skin was ablaze from the light bathing his diminutive body, which was tiny compared to the leader of the Akutenshi. Many would say that Satsui was beyond insane for being able to visualize this beast in such stunning form, but it had always been there in his mind since he was a child. It never spoke, directly, but Satsui could interpret its wishes clearly enough. At its beckoning he stood and from there he would widen his stance so that his feet were shoulder length apart. Then Satsui bent at the knees and settled into that position to await the next command. But the only thing he could think of was how small he was compared to the monstrous Jidaishisou, and how he yearned to be larger or perhaps more equal in terms of power.

If he was larger and stronger such jutsu would be all too easy for him to master. If he was larger in size his strength would increase by the same measure and he would become a master of men. If his chakra reserves were larger he could fight with the same reckless abandon sported by the heroes of olden times. If he was larger . . . .

Satsui opened his eyes and smiled as the answer came to him and said a small thank you to Jidaishisou as he vanished from his mind. From his stance, Satsui began to imagine his body growing larger and larger and the chakra bubble that encased him was forced to grow along with it. Before long he saw himself as ten feet tall, then twenty, and then towering at over thirty feet. The Raiton energy expanded just as he did and held its shape without fail for as long as his form remained unchanged. Then Satsui imagined his body exploding outward under the force of a chakra enhanced petrol bomb until the shadow he cast was five meters wide. The sphere of energy went with it and continued to grow until it dissipated finally in a brilliant display of power and exuberance. He opened his eyes to find himself standing in the midst of a haze of yellow light that briefly mirrored the noon day sun’s intensity.

Shousen Jutsu (Mystical Hand Technique)

Description: Shousen Jutsu is one of the most fundamental yet vital Medical Ninjutsu techniques utilized by medical ninja. This technique allows the ninja to heal wounds by focusing their own chakra to their hands. If the ninja is highly skilled, they are able to heal more critical injuries. Highly skilled medical-nin can use their techniques to perform surgeries that otherwise would not be possible.

It was that time once again and Satsui found himself in the training grounds that had once held sacred meaning to his ancestors. He knew full well that the ghosts of the past still swirled around this place but they held no ill will toward him. He had proved himself before and wouldn't be put to shame now. Satsui inhaled a few lung fulls of the cool mountain air and set his mind to getting started; he'd been preparing for this moment all week long and finally he would have some return for his hard work. He closed his eyes and withdrew deeply into his own mind in order to get a grasp on his chakra levels. He allowed his mind to take inventory of his entire body and then he began to recieve information about how each sector was performing. This would be the basis of all the following jutsu and he knew exactly where he was going. The road to power was often paved with the bodies of others and so Satsui had decided to place his unwavering faith in the domain of the Iryou. He was going to become a medical-nin . . .

From the core of his being, not the physical, chakra flowed out and danced across his skin before pooling around his hands. Satsui was somewhat surprised that this chakra was so different in color from his usual Raiton chakra. The energies he was drawing upon now were an unpleasant mixture of black and deep maroon shades but they still felt familiar. As if they had been a missing piece of Satsui for years and he'd only now rediscovered them. He looked down and inspected his hands for a moment before triggering the spring loaded kunai hidden in his sleeve. He pressed it against his forearm and applied a slight amount of pressure so that the tip entered his skin ever so slightly. The bite from the steel brought the same sense of pleasure to Satsui that always accompanied combat and he had to still his mind and remind himself what was actually going on.

With the first part done and a small trickle of blood escaping from the minor wound on his arm it was time for Satsui to remedy the destruction he'd wrought with his own hand. He pressed his opposite hand against the wound and sought to infuse the area with his chakra and initiate the healing process. He focused his mind on the open flesh beneath his palm and began to envision the hole closing on its own.

Satsui continued to feed chakra to the injury he'd made with his own kunai but was quickly discovering that it was having no effect. The wound remained unchanged even after minutes of continual chakra flow. He had been envisioning the wound miraculously closing but the blood was still trickling out unabated, and Satsui began to wonder if he'd sacrificed his health in a vain attempt to learn the Shousen Jutsu. But with that thought came encouragement because any time doubt reared its ugly head it only meant that was an opportunity for a real man to perservere and overcome whatever situation was at hand. In light of the circumstances, where some might falter, Satsui steeled himself and rededicated his mind to the purpose he traveled there for. If his current level of concentration wasn't enough to activate the healing then he would simply have to expand on what he was doing.

He closed his eyes and went to the place in his mind where would often meditate. There was a calm and stillness in that place that he rarely found in the outside world and, for that reason, he would routinely engage in jutsu training in this place. He imagined the wound on his arm; how it looked when it was first made and how it looked now with his hand covering it. So far he had been envisioning chakra flowing from his core to his hand and then passing directly into the wound. And given the lack of results he'd experienced he cut the flow of energy and set his mind to determining another way of approaching the problem. At first there was nothing to do but wait- Satsui had spent his entire life training to do harm and not reverse it but he knew that if he considered the entire scenario he'd be able to figure it out. And with that thought came a new idea for how to proceed with the Iryou no Jutsu.

Satsui returned to the image of the wound in his mind's eye and attempted to blanket the entire area with healing energies instead of envisioning his chakra flowing in directly into the wound. He used his chakra to created a dome which extended above his hand and below his wound so that a much greater space was now engulfed in chakra. From there he would seek to modify his flow of chakra to match the blood exiting the wound. When his heart beat and forced a bit of the crimson liquid out he would increase the flow of chakra ever so slightly and then pull it back a moment later. Over time, this lead to the blood flow diminishing until there wasn't any coming out at all. Then Satsui began to command his chakra to begin repairing individual cells instead of the entire wound as a whole which yielded much better results. Slowly but surely, his flesh seemed to reach out across the divide and link with other tissue and the injury began to much more narrow and shallow.

Just as his method was showing great promise, and Satsui opened his eyes to peer down at his handiwork, a ray of sunlight struck him and temporarily blinded and disoriented him in the same moment causing his progress healing the wound to become slightly retarded. The oozing, red liquid rose from the cut once more and threatened to spill out with even more vehemence that before. Having been so close to his goal and then having it snatched away from him caused Satsui to burn with an anger more vibrant than a down trodden serpent. He lost control of his emotions for a brief instant and the ferocious disappointment sharpened his psyche to a monofilament edge. His entire being melded into the singular drive to regain the level of healing that had slipped away and, in his anger, Satsui even surpassed the progress he initially had.

He willed the wound to disappear completely and the force of his conviction overruled his caution of chakra loss. The fury in his mind translated to recovery in his body; it seemed that his technique was motivated more by his negative will instead of a calm and peaceful mindset. The flesh around the cut began to stitch itself closed at a faster pace than before and Satsui felt his injury quickly becoming a thing of the past. The blood receded entirely and even that which had been deposited on his skin was being reabsorbed into the pores. The flow of chakra Satsui had been supplying to this process had remained steady even as his anger had increased, but the growing success of his reckless abandon impressed him to go even further and he allowed his chakra to flow freely. The more he pumped outward, and subsequently into the wound, the faster it mended itself and before long there was almost nothing remaining of the incision.

The wound closed with little fanfare and a feeling of wholeness washed over Satsui as if a piece of himself had been returned from the maw of death. He felt as though the thought was somewhat dramatic but he could not doubt the overall success of the technique. He peered down in time to see his skin regenerating to cover the scar that had just vanished. The sensation of being complete gave way into an extremely fatigued feeling and Satsui realized that he might have gone a bit overboard in his eagerness to be rid of the damage he'd inflicted upon himself. His chakra flow died down as he had nothing left to prove to himself and he sank slowly to his knees and inhaled deeply to replenish his stamina.

In'yu Shômetsu (Yin Healing Wound Destruction)

Therefore, when the strike does occur, healing is already occurring before damage is taken. This allows for almost instant-healing of wounds. The larger and more complex the wound is, however, the more chakra is needed to heal it. User employs highest 'Shosen' rank in order to heal.
Description: Filling an area with Shosen-style chakra before taking damage, the user is capable of anticipating an assault and thus begin the healing process for a wound before actually receiving it. When the wound finally does occur, the advanced healing process rapidly regenerates the flesh of the wounded area, healing it before the eyes of the user and the opponent.
Domain: Medical. Shosen of the same rank.

The morning sun rose high and bleak, casting an eerily white glow across the mountain and the Tenchishinmei training arena where Satsui sat in deep meditation. For hours, every since the moon had been at its highest point, he had been carefully regulating his chakra in preparation for the jutsu training he was about to attempt. The art of medical ninjutsu was perhaps the most complicated for many people; not only to learn but also to understand as a shinobi was primarily a tool for killing but Satsui was rather glad he’d settled on learning the mystic arts. Even though he would most likely never actually heal anyone- once one gained enough talent with the basics there were rumors of an untold power that could be bestowed upon the most seasoned practitioners.

Standing to his feet was the first order of business and as he rose it was second nature to brush the dirt and debris from his robes. The regally blue fabric was his trademark, even though he despised Suiton users, and he was thoroughly disappointed when it became too dingy so quickly. But he was training in the great outdoors and such things were only to be expected; Satsui focused his mind once more on moderating his flow of chakra as he assumed his favorite position. His feet were spread wide serving as the basis of his stance for they were as sturdy and as durable as the marble pillars which encircled the pavilion in which he stood. A caressing breeze descended from the clouds and rolled swiftly across the training grounds threatening to tussle the short grass which formed the perimeter of the octagonal arena. His back was straight and his arms were stretched out in front of him though he drew them close to his chest as he inhaled deeply. They would extend away from him moments later as he pushed the air out of his lungs and back into the ether surrounding him.

Satsui began to allow his chakra to rise within his system as it flowed from his core and continued outward to his extremities. There was a definitive, familiar feeling to this strange chakra that was different from his Raiton energies. The chakra his body produced for medical ninjutsu was jet black and seemed to ingest light and regurgitate a deeper darkness. If there was any coloration to it at all it would be a supremely ominous maroon tint that followed the darker portion of chakra like a shadow cloak. This was the essence of his natural spirit that spiraled outward to cover his body before sinking beneath the cloth and skin to saturate the flesh. His body absorbed its own energy without any order or confirmation as it only seemed ordinary for it to return home, but Satsui had something especially unusual in mind and he focused his chakra to his cranial region as he withdrew a lone kunai and made a long, shallow incision from his eyebrow to his cheek.

Satsui’s mind was swimming as the cold steel made a cleft in the meat of his face. It was no secret to him that he was a member of the one to three percent of people who enjoyed it when pain was inflicted upon them. It was almost a shame he wasn’t weaker and unable to fend off attacks from others but he knew he reveled too deeply in the thrill of winning battles to not fight back. Even as he dragged the blade down his cheek and then brought it to a stop he knew something was wrong; the sensation of the pain was too prolonged for it should have subsided quickly if the jutsu was working properly. As was often the case, Satsui hadn’t let his chakra sink far enough into his tissues and so the healing effect wasn’t engaging. Many people who originally tried this technique found they had the same problem and many of them died after inflicting a lethal wound. Satsui was more cautious than most so his first attempt had been something less likely to strongly impair him. Even as the blood began to seep out and trickle down to his chin he was forming his next move.

The only thing to do would be to allow the chakra to penetrate his body on a much more profound level. But he couldn’t inundate his entire body with the Iryou energies and expect to live through such an ordeal. Instead, he would need to flood one particular area with his chakra and then concentrate solely on that point. The kunai was readied again and delivered to the opposite side of his face. Satsui halted in order to be sure his chakra was thoroughly infused before placing the bloodied tip of the weapon against his skin. He pushed the metal through the weak membrane and immediately felt a difference in sensation from his previous attempt. It was as if someone were applying a diluted antiseptic to the wound even as it was being made and yet the pain was just as potent. Satsui clenched his teeth and curled his toes as he brought the kunai from just under his eyebrow all the way down to his lip. The awareness of pain was so exotic to him that he only wanted to explore the feeling more adamantly yet at the same time he knew he had to keep himself centered on what he was doing. The tingling feeling coming from the fresh wound was reminiscent of an alcohol pad being applied to a scrape and Satsui was sure that the healing procedure was fully underway.

After some time had passed, and he was positive the injury was healed, he rubbed the kunai clean against the bandages covering his forearm so he could use the side as a mirror. When he held it correctly it was easy to see a minor scar where the second wound had been made but even that was quickly fading. It seemed that this one was easier to learn than the Shousen Jutsu had been; Satsui wondered if that was because he was tending to himself primarily through learning this technique and thusly he’d been more motivated to succeed. Still, practicing the other one wouldn’t be a bad idea every once in a while so he raised his empty hand to the other side of his face. The first cut was still bleeding but Satsui was completely at ease with the sight of blood, especially his own, so he allowed his chakra to form a dome around his skull which he slowly shrank until it was only covering the gash. The blackish, swirling chakra poured into the cut and, almost instantly, the two sides began to regenerate as skin and tissue came forth to close the gap. When the injury was fully repaired and Satsui had wiped the blood from his eye he turned his attention to the kunai in his left hand. It seemed to him that if he was already able to heal himself from such injuries as the ones inflicted by the gleaming steel he still clutched then greater trauma shouldn’t be beyond his abilities. He put the kunai away and reached into his garments and brought out an Exploding Note.

He set the Exploding Note upon the ground and withdrew to a safe distance to set off the blast. It was foolish to believe that he could escape this without long term damage but Satsui knew if he could complete this in training then he would be able to achieve it in actual combat. Shinobi were always trying to blow each other up, among other things, so this would serve to develop his survival skills even in such drastic situations. As he gathered his chakra and began to draw nearer to the parchment it occurred to him that he was on the verge of creating an entirely new stratagem for conclusively ending a conflict. His timing would have to be impeccable but that would come naturally in the moment so he set his mind to applying the proper amount of chakra to his body before continuing. The dark energies once again compacted themselves within Satsui’s body and began energizing the cells for what was to come and yet Satsui still felt the pang of doubt. He was almost far enough away from the centre of the blast to take no damage at all and when he factored in the armor concealed beneath his robes it was likely he could simply stand where he was and not be affected by the blast at all. He drew closer still, placing himself just inside of the danger zone, and took a deep breath before leaping toward the Exploding Note. A burst of chakra would detonate the slip of paper and a flash of light would be the only thing Satsui could make out.

He awoke moments later having been thrown some three to four meters away from the blast zone. His entire body was in pain due to the blunt force trauma of being tossed away like a damn rag doll and his face, chest, arms, and legs felt extremely hot. As soon as his eyes were able to open and his vision cleared he could partially determine that his clothing was completely scorched and as more time passed he was aware that he could taste blood in his mouth. He guessed that the shockwave from the initial blast was responsible for what felt like a broken rib and the subsequent tumbling had only exacerbated the situation. He finally felt the trickle of blood coming from his inner ear which explained why he was having so much trouble hearing the curse words he thought he’d been uttering. But even through the pain he could feel that same sensation that his entire frontal body was an open scab being dipped in alcohol and the feeling eventually pervaded deep into his chest cavity as well. The fractured rib took the longest to heal and it might not have worked if not for the protective armor that he’d chosen and all his other injuries progressed nicely until they were only a dull ache in the back of his mind. After the potentially life threatening injuries were taken care of and Satsui had regulated both his breathing and chakra flow, he stood.

All of his training would soon come in handy as he attempted to hunt down the one who had run from him; a young Genin with eyes white like snow had fled from a friendly spar and left Satsui somewhat enraged as a result. The boy had seemed strong and had actually succeeded in sending Satsui flying through the air but he’d chosen to abandon their fight just as things were getting interesting for his opponent. There could be no forgiveness for such a thing and the next time they met it would be Satsui that left first- with the other man spilling his blood to the ground. Several minutes passed before he felt up to the task of walking away from the pavilion and, even then, Satsui had to take his time and step lightly. There would definitely be a problem using this technique to often but it had obvious potential as a hidden trump card.
