Still early in the morning, the youth would be seen sitting on a bench in the middle of Kumogakure, his pale eyes unhurriedly skimming over several of his mission notes.

He’d planned to complete five different d-ranks before the day was over; having already successfully finished one, he would now be sifting through the notes for his next task.

His previous mission had seen him running across town, delivering packages to the large village’s citizens. He’d even been confronted by a small group of thugs during one trip into a rather bad part of town, which had led to their swift incapacitation. Slightly taxed from all of the errands and fight, he’d eventually decide upon a second mission that would allow him to sit down.

“Fishing.. heh, something new I guess.”

His earlier years filled with constant study and training, the boy had never been given the opportunity to actually fish, and thus knew nothing about it. It had seemed quite boring from what he’d observed, though the idea of sitting down near a lake and relaxing now would seem quite exciting.

Moreover, similar to his previous mission, he knew his Byakugan would give him an advantage most fisherman would kill for. Not only would he be able to pick the best lake to fish in, but even the most congested, swarming spots.

It would have been a breeze, had he actually known how to fish. Not only this, but he also had no equipment, and was clueless as to where it could be found or bought.

Crowds of civilians would walk in front of him as he continued to sit; needing to search for some type of fishing store, the boy would activate his Byakugan in order to see through them and at the shops within the vicinity. His plan to ask the store owners questions, as well as buy the necessary rods, bait, hooks, and anything else he’d need.

He’d search to no avail for the first few minutes, which was odd, seeing that Kaminari no Kuni seemed like a pretty good environment to fish in, with the hundreds of rivers flowing throughout the countless amounts of valleys and mountains.

“come on; there’s gotta be one somewhere around here..!”

Getting up from the bench, he’d climb onto a nearby structure in order to get a better view of his surroundings. It had worked, and in no time, he’d spot a large shop with the symbol of a fish and rod on it. His Byakugan prying inside the building, he’d see a plethora of odd looking insects, rods, and several contraptions he’d stare confused about.

Regardless, with the store in sight, he’d get back down from the rooftop, now heading towards the fishers market.

He’d deactivate his Kekkai Genkai just before entering the store, not wanting to scare or intimidate the regular civilians. Stepping inside the building, he’d be surprised at just how vast it was; seemingly filled with anything a fisherman could ever dream of needing, even including a pond to practice at.

A weathered looking man would greet him with a hello as he would begin to look around, afterward asking him if there was any way he could be of assistance.

“Heh, it might sound crazy to you but.. I’ve never been fishing before; I don’t know how.”

Staring at the boy with eyes of hilarity, the store employee would speak while simultaneously holding in laughter.

“Never before?! That’s a first haha; well follow me then I guess.. I’ll get you started.. but may I ask, why have you waited until now to try and get started, and what for?”

They’re conversation would continue as the man would guide Haru through the store, teaching him the basics, while also showing examples and giving advice.

As a result of the worker’s help, the young Hyūga would eventually have learned and understood every detail necessary for him to leave the shop and begin successfully catching the small sea creatures.

With his newfound knowledge, Haru would next begin purchasing the essentials, afterward leaving the store with a tackle box full of supplies, and a fishing rod in hand. He’d been told of several great fishing spots just outside of Kumo’s gates, and decided to check each of the four via his Byakugan before finally deciding upon any one site.

Luckily, and unlike the other fisherman, the Hyūga wouldn’t have to worry about looking for calm spots in the water, which way the wind was moving, or any other kind of sign for that matter, as he’d be able to see through it. Not only would it make the d-rank mission go by faster, but it would also make it much more enjoyable, and much less difficult.

Walking from the village gates and into the immense, dynamic environment of Kaminari no Kuni, Haru would activate his Byakugan, subsequently searching the area for the trail that would lead him toward his first destination.

He’d first arrive at a deep, extremely long river, flowing down from one mountain and throughout a large valley. It looked great, though he’d choose to leave this one alone for now, next heading toward his second suggested spot.

The determined Genin would persist with his investigation for the next thirty minutes, afterward finally deciding on and settling down at the fourth, final location.

His omniscient eyes would search the waters for the area’s most crowded with fish as he sat. Vision focused outward, his hands would be preparing a cage to hold the fish underwater, while his mind began reflecting on his lessons.

He'd set up his cage upon finding a spot, afterward preparing his rod with the bait. He had several different types, though would begin with a simple earthworm. In a drawn out motion, he’d throw his arm back and then swing it forward, effectively casting the rod out into the river.

His first attempt at throwing his fishing line had been a success. Now all he had to do was sit and wait, his eyes trained deep underwater on the heavily congested area of fish near his lure.

“c’mon…”

He had patience, however at this point was too excited to simply sit and do nothing. He’d give his line a slight wiggle, moving the bait around to help the fish notice it.

Nothing would happen at first, though, suddenly, in one swift movement one would attack at the critter. He’d give a slight tug on the handle of the rod as the sea creature’s mouth wrapped around the worm and, consequently, the hook.

The sharp piece of metal would pierce through its mouth within the next instant, sending a rush of exhilaration down the boy’s spine. This was it; if he could reel it in, this would be his first ever catch. He’d stand while cranking the rod’s handle, bringing the snagged fish toward him little by little.

Seconds later it’d begin to breach the water’s surface, being towed into the air as it bended the end of the stick.

“WOO!!”

His first ever fish, the young Kumo-nin would release it from the hooks grasp, staring in awe at the rather large specimen. Laughing, Haru would finish and store it in the underwater cage he’d previously set up. The feel he’d gotten from this was similar to the thrill he received from battle; truly, he now understood why people loved the activity so.

His next two fish would both happen in a similar manner, though the time in between each would be slightly more spaced out than the first. The same bait was used, same technique was used, same rod was used, etc.

Choosing to use a different bait this time, he’d cast his line out unsure of what the result would be. Ten minutes of waiting would gift him with what would be the most thrilling part of the day. His Byakugan not paying attention, the skinny kid would nearly be pulled into the water.

Confused, he’d look out to see a humongous fish almost as big as him biting on his hook. Now in a war of strength with the fish, he’d work with all of his might to, inch by inch start reeling the fish in. He’d dig into the ground with his feet where they were planted so as to not lose any positioning.

Creaking noises would begin to sound off from the bending of his rod; fearing that it would be snapped in half by the enormous creature, he’d reinforce the rod with his chakra.

It was a last minute idea, though one he’d be grateful for, as the use of chakra would easily overpower the being, however strong it may have been. Sending chakra toward his feet, he’d begin stepping backward, simultaneously fighting to work his hand in a circular motion, pulling it in.

Their battle would last another five or six minutes before he would finally drag the being up shore, afterward studying it with wide eyes, utterly shocked at the size, though proud of himself for catching the thing, which could easily equal twenty of the fish he’d caught previously.

He'd let out a laugh as his limbs continued to shake; the sensation he'd felt when fighting the creature, and eventually winning, had truly been memorable. It was an experience the youth would never forget

With the task done and the fish caught, he’d make his way back to the village, replaying his last catch in his head during the trip. He'd drop them off at their designated location before stopping once again to pick another mission.
