Yuro collided with the mud with failure reeking along his face. It knocked him back a good 20 meters before he stopped skidding along the ground and caught along a piece of stone to prop himself up quicker. Asa’s words hit him like stone… much harder than the substance that he’d used to defend against himself. Tears were not the only thing protruding from the boys pores though.

Chakra seemed to surge through him like no other as his eyes began to spin at an even faster rate. The second tomoe was not evident.. but it was flickering an image in his eyes just like a shunshin.. not yet activated. He was gaining the strength he wanted.. but only at the expense of releasing the hatred from inside him.

His grim visage pumped in and out as if air were not enough to fill his lungs. The sages eyes drew nearer to Asa witnessing his increased prowess. His chuunin title held no bars to the beast of the unleashed. In a world with no order the title meant nothing and the power meant all. Yuro’s fists griped as his head tilted down a little after peering his image in the puddle of tears beneath him.

With one movement he picked his head up, revealing his two tomoe with a grin.

As the portal opened abaft his position Yuro’s image began to fade before Asa’s eyes as the golden sage began to come back down to the ground. His stature was of the same state and he talked with calm authority. It’d take Asa a few seconds to see what was actually happening.

He awaited the chuunins response. Surely if he did not seek power he did not seek the eye itself. The death plateu awaited him through that portal… but he would not know until approval.

The boy flew backwards, the muddy earth covering his form as he came to a halt and propped himself back up. He did it quickly in an attempt to look more threatening, but Asa knew the effort he probably needed to do it so briskly. Though the boy seemed to be a bit emotional, he appeared to be more aggressive then ever. The words he spouted sliced Asa harder then any blade. ““Shutup! What makes you think we’re anything the same!? You’re a coward who didn’t even avenge his parents deaths! They’re not proud of you… they probably HATE you!”

Asa’s eyes bulged at the boys accusation. Hate me? Is it possible? His hands began to clinch and it took a visible effort to keep himself from charging the boy. It was but a moment, but the boy seemed to vanish from sight. Gone from the sages realm. Asa’s crimson pupils glistened as he appeared to be on the verge of tears. The boy was gone, but Asa’s words lashed out to him regardless.

“You little whelp. You think you’re the only person who ever wanted revenge for a family member. Who should I seek revenge against? There were so many involved in that battle, figuring out the owner of one or two kunai is near impossible. Should I declare war on the entire village we were fighting against? There were numerous villages on that field of battle.”

Asa’s began to roar, and fury fueled him. Emotion dripped from his tongue. He was not able to control his words. He wanted the boy to feel the same heart wrenching blow that had been leveled against him.

“I was with my parents when they died. I was the one who listened to my father’s last words. They weren’t words condemning anyone, or wishing harm to anyone else. You can’t enjoy revenge when you pass on to the next world. Revenge is only a construct for the living you selfish little bastard.”

Asa’s speech cut off now, into inaudible sobs. He collapsed to his knees, his right forearm whipping what he would only claim to be sweat away from his eyes. Choked words lashed out, “I hope you choke on that second tomoe you son of a bitch.”

Trickles or ‘sweat’ ran down his cheeks as the sage began to speak to him. It was only now that Asa took note of the lack of emotion within the sages voice. He was complimenting Asa’s skill sure, but it was as if he was addressing a toy he had just finished playing with. Asa was forced to fight the boy, the way the sage had wanted. He was forced into this realm apparently because of the sage, and apparently the sage could send him from this realm with nothing more then a thought. His play at being a god wasn’t fantasy here.

Pulling to his feet, Asa nodded at the sage. “Listen goldie…I’ll go through the portal. I want strength, don’t get me wrong. I just think the reasons for the acquisition of power, is more important then the trials one faces to get it.” Turning on his heels, Asa’s slow steps would carry him through the portal.

The words would ring into Asashio’s head as he stepped into the purple void. At first it’d seem like a soft silk cloth wrapping over his skin but within seconds that would all fade. The words of the sage echoed throughout the decadence of the plateau he now stood upon. Beside of him were two other figures not yet known to him yet but they seemed un-lethal. The game started now… and young Asa had very little to deal with.

Asa’s sarcastic remark about the sage being a tool was blocked out as he entered the portal. It felt as though he was swimming. The air was apparently thick in the gaps between space and time. It was difficult to breath and as he moved through the purple surface of the portal, Asa thought he was moving at a snails pace. Finally he reached the opposite end of the portal, and it was as if time fixed itself. It was like he was going from slow motion to fast forward. In his effort to speed his travel through the uncomfortable wound in the fabric of space, Asa stumbled when his speed righted itself, forcing him to the ground. Asa rubbed the bump that was sure to form on his forehead in the next few moments, as his crimson eyes gazed upon the area he fell to.

He stood upon a plateau, figures to either side of him. The sky held ominous clouds over head. A storm approached. Neither of the figures nearby moved towards him as he lay on the ground. His hands stretched out over the ground where he laid, and pushed against it to raise himself up to his feet. The rock of the plateau was a comfort at least. He had always had a kinship with the earth, always understood its steadfast nature. But nothing else about this place or the figures standing within it was comforting. His eyes scanned the men, but the shadows prevented any in depth analysis. They could be statues for all he knew.

“Ok. So I’m here. Now what?” Asa called out. The sound seemed to echo in the valley below the plateau, eventually fading. No answer was heard at first, so Asa decided that doing something was better then nothing, and began approaching one of the figures. He would try and get close enough to get some definition. Something to enhance his understanding of what to do or where to go.

His words crept upon the man to Asashio’s right’s skin. He didn’t say anything but there was a whining in his throat that allowed the other two to see he was scared as hell. He blew off the plateau quicker than they’d gotten there…racing into the forest like a mad man. The man to Asashio’s left gave him an awkward look, shrugging his shoulders as if he really didn’t care about his own life.

Let the games begin.

Asa saw the dirt incrusted faces of the two men, and was reminded of his own earthen armor for a moment. He dare not remove it, but the chakra drain was going to present a problem if he retained its protection for a long period of time. And if the man on his left was truthful, then a race was not the thing for him while wearing the cumbersome technique. After the man expressed his annoyance, Asa shrugged at him. The man on the right seemed more distraught. Asa wasn’t so much afraid, as he was concerned. There were three men there. That meant that one of them was not going to make his way home. It was a sad revelation. Asa truly wanted to allow all of his blood brothers on this path the chance to stay alive. Sure the boy with the sword earlier had thrown the opportunity for peace in his face, but Asa had to believe that that wasn’t the general consensus amongst his clansmen….for their sake at least.

“So, we need to stay calm and figure out how all of us can get out of here.”

Asa began to say those words, but part way through the more anxious man bolted towards apparent salvation. The other shrugged, seeming sad for his compatriot who couldn’t handle to pressure. Asa shook his head. “If only he’d stayed we may have all gotten out of here alive.”

With those words, Asa peered over the edge towards the forest. The man was still decending while Asa’s handseals finished. Suddenly a large dome of earth would spring up around the man. It would be about 30x30 meters, and would envelop him so that wherever he intended to land would be consumed. Then, Asa would leap towards the dome himself, so that he could insure his plan would succeed. Calling back to the man still on the plateau he said, “Be careful of the animals, but make it to the end of the forest. This one should have had more concern for his blood then he did.”

Eventually, Asa would land on the dome, and would place his hand on it. It the man was caught, Asa’s hand would serve to draw the chakra out of him and use it to replenish his own stores, and heal the dome that was meant to capture him. If not, the lack of chakra would announce the fact and Asa would take to other methods of halting the man’s mad dash to let his brethren die.

The dome sprung up and Asa landed on its earthen exterior, placing his hand on the rock. Normally, Asa would be able to feel a flow of chakra from an opponent inside, but something was wrong. He could feel a charge of chakra, but it was nowhere near the level it should be. It was a mere trickle of what a ninja with a sharingan should produce. "Damn it!" Asa exclaimed as he realized what was happening. The man had found a way to escape. He was ahead of Asa, and there was no telling where. In addition, Asa had displayed his earth abilities to the man. He no doubt would keep to the trees now, so hi underground techniques would be useless.

"Son of a bitch. I guess there is nothing else to do."

Forming a single seal, Asa's earthen coating would begin to shatter and fall away. It exposed his body to the outside world, but the lost weight would give him the speed boost he would need to keep up with the man he was pursuing, or better yet over take him.

Asa's feet pushed off the earthen dome, and carried him through the trees with powerful leaps. Every branch seemed to creek under his feet. Though he was trying to make up time, Asa kept his head. His techniques all revolved around the ground, so he would keep about 10 meters up in the tree branches. Echoes of the forest beasts could be heard all around him. This was not some place he enjoyed being, and forcing the removal of his armor, while refreshing to be without the chakra drain, was concerning. He hated the vulnerability it forced on him. The distance flew by as Asa traveled through the trees, in anticipation of the upcoming events that the sage had set into motion.

Asa listened to the man explain a role for Asa to play. He apparently was skilled in sensing others chakra. A useful ability indeed. Could Asa trust him though? According to the “rules” that he had been told, only two of the three uchiha participating could make it out of here alive. Originally, Asa had focused his attentions on the whimpering man because he hadn’t cared about his brothers enough to slow down and come up with a plan. Instead he bolted off. That signified that the whimpering man hadn’t been a good clansmen. Asa never really got to know the other man. He had just assumed the other man could take the position at the finish line, and Asa would bear the dirty work. But what if this man had decided that he would try to secure one of the two spots now? What if this plan of his was just a way for Asa to be lured into a trap? It was all to possible.

Sweat continued to pour down Asa’s face as he moved through the trees. The choice now was upon him. Would he leap up as instructed and leave his supposed partner to his plans, or would he fall into the mire of paranoia? It was that final thought that decided it for him. Asa wouldn’t lose faith in his clansmen, no matter how many he met on this path that seemed to only lust for power and never for kinship. His partner had given him no reason for doubt, so Asa would oblige. As the man hit “one”, Asa’s legs would push off the branch he had landed on with greater force, sending him soaring into the branches above. He could hear the leaves rustle below, as his ‘partner’ did something. The temptation of freedom pulled at him, but he would not abandon his partner.

Asa’s legs struck the higher branch on the large tree, and he pushed off, sending himself flying like a bullet back towards the ground where he came from. Handseals flickered as he prepared to meet an encounter below. He assumed his ally would be engaged with the other ninja. If so, Asa’s sharingan would guide a mud bullet against the quarry him and his ally had been hunting.

As Asa came careening down through the trees, he came upon his ally. Visibly injured, Asa landed on the same branch as him. Out of the corner of his eye he saw movement, but Asa wouldn’t pursue yet. His hands released the handseals he had been producing, and gripped towards the mans side. His partner told him to carry on, but could Asa leave him? The doubts about the man he had earlier were becoming shameful memories in his mind as he reached towards the now gaping hole in the mans chest, and would put his hands against it. He needed to stem the bleeding.

“I can’t leave you here man. You’re…you’re gunna be alright. We’ll get you to the finish. That’s what we’ll do and then that fucker won’t have anything else to do but fight me direct you hear? You’ll be ok. That sagely son of a bitch can probably heal you. That’s right.”

Asa’s panicked tone was poorly masked with a broken hopeful one. He would reach out to pick his partner up from the ground to carry him, but the gasps of pain from the jostling would echo in his ear. Moving him was a terrible idea. But what else could he do? This man was the sensor. Not him. His chakra was getting to the breaking point. Leaving him here could secure his victory….but could he be so cold hearted? Not only was this man his kin, but he was a proven brother. A man who had risked, and sustained serious injury in an effort to work together with Asa. The only one he had met along this terrible trial.

The echoes of pain were coming from the mans mouth. It was stupid to try fooling himself into believing that the man would survive such a blow, and the grueling travel through the trees. Let alone believing he could outrun their enemy with his ally on his back. What a pickle. That’s when he noticed the footsteps. He had a plan. A few handseals were generated, and the fire flowed from him, taking a mirror shape and landing on the ground. Asa placed a gentle hand on his friends head and whispered, “I won’t let him take your eyes man. I’ll be back. You hang in. We’re getting through this.”

The confidence would seem just as shaky, but it was the best effort he could generate. With that he would jump down and begin swimming through the earth. His fire clone would follow the footsteps, tracking the enemy above. His radar sense while underground would fan out in a 50 meter radius to try seeing where the enemy was now that he was on the ground. If he noticed anything he would take it from there, following swiftly.

Asa swam through the ground, forcing his armor to return to his body. Without it he’d be in a bad way when he finally confronted the enemy. Twenty meters was all it would take to bring him to within range of his prey. He could feel the cowards feet against the ground as he shot through the earth, and with a blinding fury, Asa shot from the ground in front of where he saw the other ninja. He would be about ten meters ahead of him. He was between the other man and the portal. The portals glimmering essence called to him to enter and be rid of this place, but he had unfinished business to attend to. The water in his eyes highlighted the crimson coloring.

Handseals would be made, and a dome of earth would encompass the portal, blocking it off from the both Asa and his enemy. Nobody was leaving until Asa had gained satisfaction.

“You cowardly piece of shit!” The anger and emotion welled within Asa making his words come out harsh. “His name was Eiluro. Eiluro Uchiha. He was our brother. You killed him! If you’d have just stopped and talked, tried to work this problem out with us instead of turning on your brethren, we may have all been able to get out of here. But no! You son of a bitch! You decided to look after number one, and stepped in number two during the process. I’m going to kill you. Then Eiluro will go through the portal. I don’t care if he’s dead already or not. He is more a man then you’ll ever be, and more deserving of the honor of advancement. Your journey will end here!”

Asa’s feet dug into the earth, as he drew his gladius in preparation for combat. He was getting low on energy, but he figured that he’d have enough for at least this battle. And perhaps whatever happened after this didn’t concern him anymore. All he focused on was satisfaction.

With that.. began a flurry of hand seals. His back had been turned amongst Asashio this entirety but he’d now faced him with bloody intent in his eye. With but a seconds notice his eyes would bulge open as the fire within him expelled forth in the form of a dragon. It’s mighty claws scratched at the surface of gaia as his roar beckoned forth to the uchiha. The battle would now commence.
