Momo, like many of the residents from Iwa, was very prideful and took her role as a ninja to heart. Along with that, being around other Iwa ninja had given her a slight ruthless quality that she upheld by completely swarming opponents with her bees until they died from the poison that her little comrades had in their stingers. Despite this though, because she was of the neglected Kamizuru clan, there was always an underlying feeling that no one truly liked her. An outcast was what would come to her mind. No matter how many times her mother would disagree, Momo knew better. Even if she wasn't liked, for the sake of her clan she would at least try to make the best of her deeds.
Upon her father's death and Iwa's lack of caring to at least honor such a great shinobi, Momo's respect for her village dropped considerably. Before all she truly cared about was bettering the name of her clan for Iwa, but now all that mattered was her own progression and that of her brother. Even upon leaving Iwa, fleeing to anywhere possible, and not knowing whether her mother was still alive, the hope of finding a better home, and the hope of bettering herself to become something important to someone allowed her to live on and endure her first experiences in the outside world.
Now with her brother gone as well, Momo has sunk into a bout of depression. Both time when her family could have needed her most she had either fled or stayed hidden while they were taken away. Despite having skill, she felt as though everything she had worked for had been in naught and that nothing mattered but finding a place to grow stronger and one day try and find her missing family...
✘| chronicles;
— Prologue;
The story of a clan falling from grace is one too commonly told. The Kamizuru fell victim to this cliche' long ago during one of the great Shinobi Wars that had wracked the nations. Particularly the longstanding rivalry between the Hidden Rock and Hidden Leaves villages was what caused their downfall. On the battlefield the Kamizuru planned a surprise attack against Konoha but the Aburame clan had intercepted them. A great battle broke out between the Aburame's chakra eating insects and the Kamizuru's bees. In the end, however, the Kamizuru were defeated while the remnants retreated back to Iwa with their clan's reputation completely destroyed.
Over the years after the war, the Kamizuru continuously dwindled in numbers while the respect their clan once held no longer was given. The few that still made it in Iwa's society and those who became ninja were silently mocked and ridiculed. Nothing seemed like it would change for them while no matter what good their clan did to promote the greatness of the Village Hidden in the Rock did it do their clan any good. One of the remaining Kamizuru, Yayoi, was one of the most prominent members of the Kamizuru. Though there was no particular hierarchy within the clan, she was the pseudo-leader that everyone came to.
Through the struggles that Yayoi had to deal with, she had managed to marry another Kamizuru, Yukio, who allowed her to bare a handsome baby boy by the name of Aogi. Yayoi withdrew her self-appointed position and allowed her husband Yukio to take the reigns. He went on missions, helped the clan, and tried to improve their status within Iwa who still laughed at them. Yayoi stayed back home however, taking care of Aogi. Again she would become pregnant, this time giving birth to a baby girl by the name of Momo. As the two children grew, both became quite skilled in communicating with their bee partners, the symbiotic relationship seeming quite strong in the both of them.
Yayoi couldn't have been more proud to see that both of her children, like herself and her husband, would be strong enough to try and leave a mark to help their weary clan. Unfortunately, like many stories, theirs didn't end too well. Yukio had gone out on a mission one day and came back poisoned by the enemy. Though the poison wasn't too strong to begin with, it was enough to keep him in the hospital. Over time, the poison grew in potency and took over the man's entire body until it had put him in a coma. The hope of him coming out of it was strong, Yayoi never leaving his bedside while Aogi and Momo continued their training and managed to become Iwa Genin. Though the children took it hard that their father was in a coma, Yayoi encouraged them to keep going so their father could see their progress when he finally woke up.
More years went by and Aogi managed to become a Chuunin while Momo followed shortly after as well. Though the two were becoming more and more like the strong, noble shinobi they had wanted to be, their village still didn't see them as anything but just that, another ninja. It was around this time also that the doctors finally had to convince Yayoi to let them pull the plug on the machine keeping him alive. Even with the slim chance that he would wake up, the poison had completely destroyed his insides, making him a vegetable with no mind. With tears in her eyes, Yayoi agreed, watching as her husband's forced breathing came to an end. She expected that Iwa and the Tsuchikage would honor his death and maybe even provide for their family and the Kamizuru in general but that hope proved to be false when all Iwa did was burn Yukio's body and throw the ashes down a crevice.
It was then when Yayoi found that Iwa was not the best place to stay and raise her two children. Though all her life she had dedicated herself to her clan and that of her village, Yayoi now knew that Iwa was not the best place to stay. It was risky to run away from the village, knowing fully well how ruthless their hunter ninja could be. But even still, with the help of Aogi and Momo she began to research the other nations and what one would suit them better than Iwa. Aogi, though reluctant, suggested they go to Kumo while Momo suggested Konoha. Kumo was just as bad as Iwa when it came to how they treated outsiders while Konoha, despite the rivalry they had with Iwa, was much more accepting than any other village.
That's when it was decided. The three of them, though all proud Iwa shinobi would flee to another village, still undecided, and beg them to be allowed to stay. With their plans finally made, the next night they all left their village for Konoha. They had two choices, go through Taki or go through Kusa. Both weren’t affiliated with Iwa, which made things easier, but the one with the easier landscape to traverse was Kusa. The three of them managed to escape Iwa and Tsuchi no Kuni with no problems, but by the time that they had smuggled themselves into Kusa was when hunter ninja from Iwa finally began to trail them. As good as they had been doing, it all went awry when they found themselves at the border of the Fire Country. A handful of Iwa hunter ninja finally had caught the three of them but instead of taking them all out, Yayoi pushed her children to leave her while she fought them.
Aogi and Momo did as their mother said and fled further into Hi no Kuni, only hoping that their mother had won and found someway to make it to fire country wilds alive. Though they had thought that their troubles were gone, they reached Konoha Aogi was immediately imprisoned for wearing an Iwa headband, something that both Aogi and Momo had forgotten to remove or destroy. Momo particularly took the experience hard, watching as her brother was taken away and beat to a pulp, leaving her all by herself. In this time, Momo escaped further north and back into the wilds of Hi no Kuni. Both her mother and her brother were gone. Both most likely dead. All she could do now was press on and find a place that she could call home—hopefully somewhere in Ta no Kuni.
