Scramble for the Exams [Missions]

For once, the weather was immaculate. Not a single cloud stained the baby blue sky as it stretched out past the mountains as far as the eye could see. It was about midday, the sun was nearing its apex offering up pure golden beams to the vast sprawling city. Accompanying the subtle warmth of the sun was a gentle breeze that stoked and caressed Tenshi’s exposed skin and face, bringing about a soft smile of contentment. A lazy stroll led him along at a lax pace, lulling him into a drowsy stupor. His steps were muffled as he moved through the lush park area of Kumo dotted with trees as well as other pleasant foliage and carpeted by a thick blanket of plush green grass. Just ahead, one of the trees stretched upwards towards the sky. Its branches were splayed widely, offering a massive umbrella to shade the ground below.

[/spoiler]It was the perfect place to tightly curl up and slip off into a long tranquil slumber, but the spot was already taken. There it was, Kumogakure’s very own Super Poodle. The miniature poodle was curled up, nestled at the base of the tree trunk comfortably sleeping. Tenshi’s steps lightened as drew closer to the sleeping dog, his hands stretched out from his sides ready to strike, ready to claim the Super Poodle. Before he was in reach, without warning, the poodle’s eyes sparked to life. Tenshi dived forwards, arms spread to embrace the poodle.

THWACK!!

His face connected with trunk of the tree hard enough to leave him dazed and dizzy. The dog on the other hand, slowly pranced away seemingly not even phased by the ordeal. Sluggishly, Tenshi climbed back to his feet and pointed one finger at the dog.

“Ok, that’s it!”

A burst of speed followed, met with an almost equal pace by the dog itself as it weaved through the scenery of the park beckoning Tenshi to follow. Under benches, through bushes, over any sort of obstacle you could imagine, yet the young Genin trailed closely behind. His movements were fluid and nimble, as he displayed an extravagant exhibit of free-running. He vaulted benches with ease, his hands accelerating him forwards as he used his momentum to push himself further and faster. Each obstacle brought him closer to the elusive poodle, placing him almost within arm’s reach. Just ahead a large wooden fence towered above Tenshi’s height, and at the base was a hole just large enough for the poodle to squeeze through.

“Not this time,” Tenshi thought.

Before he could finish the doges were on the prowl. He formed a hand seal spawning a single replica of himself in the form of Bunshin no Jutsu. He once again reached for the ledge of the fence, this time struggling to pull himself over. As he dragged himself to the halfway point, his torso hanging over the fence with his legs dangling on the other side. Just as he began to make the final pull, he felt a tug on the backside of his pants. Fighting against the dog, he struggled to finally collapse on the other side, missing the rear-end of his pants.

“You mutt.”

Tenshi formed another set of hand seals, this time spawning two Raiton Bunshin that leapt over the fence, the real Tenshi swiftly followed. Upon landing, his clones were already being mawed by the feral dogs. Weaving around the animals he spotted the poodle, and scooped it up under his arm barking and yelping the whole way. Funneling chakra into his feet he began to walk up the building nearest to him. A triumphant smile spread across Tenshi’s face as he made his way to take the dog back to town.

A soft sigh was let loose from Tenshi’s lips, exhaling all the tension that had been building up for some time now. He grabbed both buckets and dipped their lips just under the water filling them almost to the top. Next, he plopped himself down on the bank, relieved to be off of his feet for once. As he had hoped, the weather was perfect for fishing. The sun was peeking out from behind the skirts of the soft white clouds that hung overhead creating a nice cool overcast. Fish loved this kind of weather, as did the bugs that so foolishly meandered over the rivers surface. These were the fish’s’ favorite food and Tesnshi had brought a few lures to replicate the insects over the water’s edge. With practiced hands he tied the lure onto the end of his line and cast it over his shoulder into the river, landing with a satisfying plop. Slowly, he began to crank the reel, tantalizingly dragging his bright green lure over the surface. Before the lure had even made it halfway back, a fish had hit it hard jumping completely out of the water, Tenshi gave a firm tug, setting the hook and proceeded to reel the fish in with little trouble.

Again, he let the lure fly this time aiming for one of the swifter moving parts of the river. Once again, the hit was almost instant and even harder still. He tugged harder this time, feeling the fish fight his pull. The tip of the rod bent inwards as the fish tried to swim upstream, but Tenshi tightened the slack giving it nowhere to go. The battle of tug-o-war lasted about five minutes before he managed to drag the fish onto the bank, and it was no fish he had ever seen.

“This must be what’s eating all of our fish.”

He tossed the much larger fish into his other buckt, being sure to separate it from his previous catch. Plop! The lure dropped into the water once again, and Tenshi laid back against the bank, propping his weight on one elbow as he stretched his legs out. This time nothing bit, but fishing wasn’t all about the catch. It was more about the chance to take it easy and escape life as well as reflect upon it. And with each and every cast Tenshi did just that, letting his mind wander even as he reeled in fish after fish. It wasn’t long until both buckets were teeming to the brim with both species of fish. It had been quite an eventful day for Tenshi, but days like these never seemed to last as long as he had hoped. Taking his catch he drug himself up the mountainside where he intended to turn in his missions.
