Battlefield Konoha: the Finale! [1]

With the gates, open and wide, all but welcoming the joint Kiri-Suna forces with open arms, there was little to stop the Legion from pouring into the city much like before. An all out war between the engaged forces erupted in the streets and rooftops, one that would rock the foundation of the Hidden Leaf like never before.

It had taken several long days for this event to come. Hopefully, Konohagakure had prepared well.

It was an indescribable feeling - watching your home burn in the fires of destiny. Though Kouketsu's allegiance was, without a doubt, with the people of Kirigakure, he held no ill-will toward his birth place. Konohagakure had treated him very well, both before, during, and after the Great Shinobi War. Even after his untimely defect from the great Leaf, he'd still yet to be hunted down; none had come to claim his life, despite his knowledge of some of the deepest and most sacred secrets the village held. Their relationship was entirely unique.

In fact, it somewhat pained him to see the village he'd come to make strong shake so easily. Where was the real fight? Surely, the upper echelon of shinobi hadn't been wiped out at Bakudon Gai? More importantly, where was the Hokage?

Kouketsu stood perched upon the highest peak of his - the Hokage's - building, and yet he hadn't been confronted? Had the shinobi world become so pathetic that not even their leaders, the most potent beings the ninja population could offer, would rise to defend their land? This entire conquest had been all too easy, and spare for his brief confrontation with Ue, it had left a rather large space in his life. It was a void he intended to fill, here and now, if he had to drag it out of the Leaf's meager little Genin.

"KILL THEM ALL!" his voice, which was already bass, seemed to boom even louder. Chakra infused vocals would be heard clearly across the mayhem of the city, and the cheer-- which was more of a cry --from his people told him that they'd heard his command.

Aside from his previous outburst, Kouketsu's demeanor was smooth and stoic. He awaited any challenger brave enough to test their abilities against him, showing no sign of joining the fray. Lithe arms crossed over his armored chest, while his eyes feverishly scanned the area(s) for a worthy challenge.

With his skills and strength having long deteriorated from what it had used to be five years ago, his Jounin and ANBU title nothing but a mocking reminder of his current being, Kayori still found the will and courage to stand at the bottom of the Hokage's tower, looking up at the towering building to find the one man that had launched a series of assaults on the other hidden villages. And he had finally made his way to Konoha.

To the aspiring Genins of the Uchiha clan, Uchiha Kouketsu was a legend despite his allegiance. To those present during the invasion of Bakudon Gai, he was the epitome of destruction and chaos. To his men, he was the one true leader that they would follow to their deaths. And to Uchiha Kayori, Kouketsu was the ticket to regaining his long-gone strength.

The Jounin's left hand plunged into his equipment pouch boun by bandages to his left thigh and pulled out a rolled-up scroll, secured with a red ribbon. Pinching on one end of the knot, Kayori gently untied it and allowed the scroll to unfurl itself, catching it and completely opening it before it touched the ground.

His giant sword, the Souten Ginrou manifested seemingly out of thin air, which was easily grabbed by Kayori's right. His digits closed tightly around the cloth-wrapped hilt, his eyes closed as he concentrated his energy into his weapon. The weapon began glowing with a blue hue, and without any warning, Kayori opened his eyes and ran five meters up the wall of the Hokage Tower before he swung his sword upwards in the direction of the other Uchiha, high up on the roof.

If everything went according to his calculations, the blade beam would climb the whole height of the tower and dissipate upon reaching the highest peak of the building, just enough to gain the attention of Kouketsu. Kayori wanted to talk.

Destruction had knocked on Konohagakure's door. It would be answered by an opposition.

Chaos, cataclysm, and confusion stretched far, reaching every corner of the expansive fortress of the Hidden Leaf. The voice of fear itself neglecting its former quiescence easily overshadowing all other sound as flames lifted from the city streets, and the tears of the citizens just as easily shifted into tears of crimson red. Without warning on their behalf, the invading forces of Kirigakure and Sunagakure had flooded into the city streets. Without clemency, and with a skewed sense of purpose, they flocked and devoured on all that they could grab ahold of. The epenthetic plague that once infested Bakudon Gai had surfaced in the heart of the fire country; however the end result wouldn't be the same, so long as he drew breath.

The whispers from the shadows had already reached his ears, and as Anbu scrambled to fend off all they could, the Commander himself quickly made his way to the scene. Antecedent to the third party's aggressive entrance, had the youngest of the three clansmen surfaced via the the stairwell opposite to Kōketsu rear, the scarlet-haired shinobi surfaced. Silent beneath the yells, cries, and destruction which took place all around, the Hokage emerged, paralleling the opposition's battle-cry towards his minions. Cold, near stolid oculars of deep crimson viewed upon the back of the Army's dictator. His name, origins, and intention weren't a mystery; no, any true Uchiha knowledgeable of their clan's history, and those that helped give it structure knew of the person who stood across the rooftop.

Through the faint veil of smoke which coated the sky, the sun's strong rays penetrated the veil of limpid grey, reflecting faintly off the armored chest of the Hokage. Arms to his side, though not unaccompanied, stems of smoke lifted from the twin gantlets that resonated a heat controlled for now. A strong posture complimented a serious demeanor, Uchiha Ryūsuke had arrived, and with the intention of ending this invasion by uprooting its lifeline. Young, and the least experienced in terms of tactical warfare, the Hiiden Leaf Shinobi wasn't shy to combat, and the possibility of death was existent. That, however was he cost of defending that which was dear to you.

“So it was you...” Ryūsuke's voice projecting towards the rear of the famed Uchiha, with nothing more than a seldom seriousness not normally explored by the scarlet-haired clansmen. This itself would surface concurrently with the interruption of an unknown party.

Aside from the glorious view of seeing the Hidden Leaf unfold before his very eyes, standing upon the Hokage's tower also had its other perks: for instance, being surprised or snuck up on, especially when you were actively looking around, was almost impossible. More so when your eyes granted you clarity that rivaled the fabled Byakugan, albeit several shades different. Whatever the case, it'd served Kouketsu well.

The flare in the little one's chakra told Kouketsu that he was a person of interest, and the manifestation of a rather large blade and the beam that followed solidified the Uchiha's suspicion. Though due to the distance between himself and the ray, it was for all intents and purposes harmless; still, that didn't keep Kouketsu from edging several feet further to his right and away from the edge - his hands intersecting only once¹ - just as it dissipated.

In was only a second later, during half-a-twist, that the voice of another rang through his ears. Effectively sandwiched between the encroaching Jounin and the Hokage, himself (Ryu to his left, Kayori to his right as he scaled the building), it appeared as though he'd get the fight he was asking for. Unfortunately, due to Ryu's timing, even he wouldn't have perceived the subtle actions the Shodaime had taken.

"Who else would it have been?" he inquired with a lofted brow, offering the Hokage a sliver of his attention.

Kayori would've arrived either a second or two before or after his brief retort. The new addition caused Kouketsu to take a handful of other steps, forming an obtuse triangle between the three with a meager distance of five meters between the trio (i.e five from kou to kayori; five from kayori to ryu; five from ryu to kou). Comfortable enough, Kouketsu made no immediate action to kill either of the two Leaf-nin before him. A conversation would suffice, for now. He would try to reason with them.

A gloved hand stretched out to survey the canvas of destruction. "This is what the world of shinobi has doomed our people to. Fighting, fighting, and fighting. The reign of the ninja is over, Ryusuke. You can either become a part of this new world that I am creating, in which the people will rule their own destiny-- or you can be crushed beneath me."

Before either of the two might've been able to respond, Kouketsu would've cut them both off. "You both look like promising men, with goals and dreams. Don't throw your lives away for nothing. You know what will come of this."

And with that, his hands came together yet again². The first of many seals, though being held, came with the promise of death for either of the two men. Their responses would dictate what occurred next.

There he stood, nothing more than a myth to most, yet adroitly slipping his way into reality, and into the eyes of the man who most likely detested him the most. With the ghost’s arrival, came sure destruction for segments of the village, and if not stopped, the entire Hidden Leaf itself would crumble beneath the natural annihilation that gave denotation and power to the country’s name. Nothing he could have done would have been worse, and no mere words could justify death—purposeful, accidental, this mattered little. For that timid enough to succumb to the will of a dictator, shame would befall them. For a true warrior, and a true guardian, death was better accepted knowing your last breath was drawn defending what you cherished.

An instrument of the village—bred to destroy but taking a liking to the contrary, Ryūsuke came without hesitation and without the restraints of terrified emotions that normally held a man back. Stationed on the rooftop, however would shed light onto the previous outburst of visible energy. Scaling and emerging unscathed, did Uchiha Kayori reveal himself. A row of three, all hailing from the same clan and worthily wearing their surname proudly, it would seem this would become more interesting then the Hokage first projected. Nonetheless, and to be brutally honest, his arrival would hinder much the scarlet-haired planned to unleash upon his foe if circumstances dictated as much.

Stepping forward, distancing himself from the immediate entry and exit back into the construct a modest 3 meters, the younger of the three found himself locked in a triangular reformatory. Open air attempting to distract and delude him, knowing full well his imprisonment came with the tide of battle itself. A gloved hand outstretched, something had momentarily captured the Uchiha’s all-mighty perception earlier, upon his arrival, and with eyes already set upon the frame of his opponent, the sudden influx of energy was visible, regardless of how dominant or frail, it was an indicator of something to come. While not possessing the extreme clarity of its pale counterpart, the reading of chakra to a degree, even more so with a fully mature Sharingan wasn’t fanciful. The question itself pertained to what Kōketsu was planning.

With an arm outstretched, hovering over the horizon which painted the inevitable destruction of the Leaf, the Uchiha’s grip tightened. His words cutting into the consciousness of the scarlet-haired youth, attempting to penetrate not only his will, but his morals. What he was implying—no, commanding of the two other parties involved was not only asinine, but completely imprudent in itself. Normally a pacifist when it came to matters he could avoid, looking back to the lives he had taken, the hearts he had betrayed, and the lives he’d soon capture as well in the future if he wasn’t stopped was all too unpardonable. As such, the moment the last word fell from the man’s mouth, and before he transitioned into his own aftermath, had the spiritual strength of Ryūsuke instantaneously began to boil and harvest ¹- his shielded hands being their agent.

“You’re ignora---“His words silenced by action.

Before his hands even sequenced into a series of dances between fingers and palms, had the crimson orbs embedded into the boy’s head foreseen their course of action. As such, during Kōketsu’s melody, would the Hokage's dominant hand (right) lift, exposing the aperture, while his left rotated, his palm now facing up tucked to his side—all within one fluid, synchronized motion which accompanied a well-balanced and easily adaptable battle stance. There was no avoiding this matter—not at this level.

Did Konoha really expect me to sit this one out? Unlike Bakudon Gai, I wasn't going to remain on the sidelines and wait for my pawns to draw blood-- no, I openly sought it this time. Wanders, civilians and shinobi alike - they all felt my wrath as I tainted my hands with their blood. By the time I reached the center of the village my armor and clothes had turned an almost crimson hue, the clear insignia of my village still evident upon my chest despite my otherwise disfigured attire.

Still, I wasn't satisfied. Nothing, not even the dead corpses of ninja that fueled our already broken shinobi regime, was enough to fully suffice for all the corruption that plagued the many villages. For my goal - our goal - to succeed, all the other Kages and their villages needed to fall; there was no other way around it, even if Kouketsu spoke of 'surrending'.

It was through such a mentality that I found my way to the highest point of Konohagakure, knowing full that the Hokage would remain at the village's most crucial hub. I was right, too - however, I hadn't been the only one to come to the same realization. Kouketsu, coupled with the presence of two others (One that I recognized as none other than the Hokage), was already engaging himself by the time I arrived.

Instead of plunging myself head-first into battle I simply watched, using my prowess as an Uchiha to analyze and predict each of their movements. Unless they turned to face me, Kouketsu would be the only one to recognize my presence next to one of the roof's six pillars. There I stood atop of the railing, gazing wearily at the back of closest Konoha shinobi to me and his rather gargantuan broadsword¹.

("What happened?! What was going on..?!") The young shinobi had thought to himself as he had ran toward the sound of the screaming villagers who had begged for their lives. But, where slain by the harsh forces which had seemed to be those of Kirigakure, with their headbands signifying their allegiance to their village. They ravaged the village, killing and and destroying everyone and everything in their path. He was then caught within the confines of an old memory of what had happened in Kusagakure when war had came. When all those people who he had loved and fought for died in front of him, it was a horrifying thing. The flashback was only a split second, and by the time he came back to, he would have began to push the shinobi back in a small area, about 500 meters from the Hokage's manor. If one where to see them, they'd appear as a bunch of little ants running into each other, but, soon the many ants running into one would be pushed back and killed. He had slain the opposition which where from Kirigakure.

He had faced many as he slowly closed in his distance to the Hokage's from his far away distance. As he ran on, his hands quickly came together¹, once completed, his chakra would become null to those who could sense and see chakra. ("I got to make it to the Hokage..I hope he is alright..!") He said in a low tone, as he ran through the streets. As more shinobi of the opposition had opposed him, he withdrew his bullwhip from his waist, and painfully whipped it across the eyes of those in his desired path. Though, what was going on was a gloomy, and saddening thing at heart for the people of Konohagakure, the sun had still shone brightly over the village, as if it was some form of hope that still existed for the village. With his left hand, he had reached out and grabbed a black tattered robe that was hanging from a clothing line, he had then sprung another set of handseals² with his right hand as he wrapped the black tattered robe around him. As he moved through an ally a few blocks before the Hokage's manor, he would dive into the shadows that the sun would cast of the ally walls, which received no sunlight. He had became a two-dimensional shadow that quickly moved through the darkness, undetected by the sights of all who would try to see him physically and chakra-wise.

His vision brought to him two figures, standing mightily as the sun bore down on them. Their shadows were as proud as the fighters themselves, both legends of the Uchiha clan. Kayori felt out of place as he stood in the balanced triangle, a washed-out Jounin standing in a deadlock with two Kage. Despite that, the blonde shinobi wasn't going to just give up. His right hand flexed slightly as his fingers adjusted his grip on his sword before clamping down tightly on the hilt. Muscles tensed, as the strength of his grip increased ¹.

"This is what the world of shinobi has doomed our people to. Fighting, fighting, and fighting. The reign of the ninja is over, Ryusuke. You can either become a part of this new world that I am creating, in which the people will rule their own destiny-- or you can be crushed beneath me," Kouketsu spoke, his charisma obvious as the words exited his mouth. It was no wonder he could rally all those under him when he himself was from Konoha. "You both look like promising men, with goals and dreams. Don't throw your lives away for nothing. You know what will come of this."

Stealing a look at Ryusuke, Kayori thought long and hard of what Kouketsu had said and to his dismay, realized the truth in what the man had spoken of. As his considered the possible option that the powerful Uchiha had voiced out, his Sharingan began to materialize, infantile in comparison to the two before him.

He had to choose between serving his Kage to the very last breath, or follow one of the very best shinobi who might well unite all of the hidden villages under his rule. And it was at this point Kayori realized the decision he would make. The veins in his right hand bulged, clearly framed by his skin with his ever tight hold on the hilt of his massive sword.

While all men had their reasons and resolves, Kouketsu couldn't help but mentally scoff at Ryu. Even with his Sharingan being equally as evolved as his own were at one point in time, he couldn't pierce the veil of deceit and slavery that he willingly played a part in pulling order the world. Kouketsu was a living, breathing testament to the corrupt rule of the shinobi; he'd demonstrated first hand how unreliable they were as leader, and how the only path they could lead anyone down was war. Despite his efforts, he was apart of the problem just as much as these men before him. The difference?

He was also a part of the solution.

Kouketsu had given all of his enemies a one time offer, and as he suspected, they shot it down each and every time. They enjoyed this lifestyle far too much; clung to falsified ideals and goals; or simply couldn't understand the greater picture that he was painting. To them, it must've looked like nothing more than a canvas of strewn corpses upon the ruination of an old era. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a greater - stronger and more unified - world would emerge. The ability to simply wage war would be stripped from their grasp, and the distaste for such senseless killing would be outcasted to the shadows for all eternity.

But, that was for another time.

Kouketsu, once more, would demonstrate how far beneath him the rest of this pitiful world was -- clansmen or not. His name would be written in the text of civilizations to come as the man that quite nearly changed the world with his own two hands. What he started in Bakudon Gai would end here in Konohagakure, and Ryu and his pawns would feel the weight of a thousand worlds upon their back soon enough. For now, a simple kick would do.

The sandaled foot that sought purchase on the back of the youthful Hokage's skull did not come from Kouketsu, but rather a carbon copy^{1, 2}. The kage bunshin had been hiding throughout the entirety of their very brief conversation, obscured by the many structures that protruded from the Hokage's building. His refusal to accept the Shodaime's proposal, and the lowering of his stance thereafter, was seen as a hostile action. If he thought that he his opponent intended to take it easy on him, he was sadly mistaken.

The blow would've connected merely a second before his gauntlet covered fists found their resting position, and came with such a force it would send Ryu soaring clean from the rooftop and into the closest building on the Hokage tower's left side. Hardly injured, it was safe to presume that Ryu would be joining the fight again in a few very handful of seconds.

His wouldbe companion, Kayori, wouldn't have been able to help him either. Considering the assault was carried out with a true assassin's swiftness^a, and the boy's Sharingan hadn't even been able to manifest, in the time it would've taken him see the attack and even hint that it was coming the Hokage would be takin' a one-way trip into the concrete wall. To make matters worse, the boy seemed to have a lot on his mind -- contemplating these offers, trying to decide what to do. He'd need to clear his mind if he was going to be of any use to anyone in this fight.

With the Hokage dispatched, likely as he was, Kouketsu would attempt to speak to Kayori one final time. He still hadn't moved. "I won't make this offer again." The one seal he'd been holding the entire time hastily evolved into a small set of four seals^b, with the last being held once more³. His right foot edged back slightly, bringing his heel up from the surface. "Make your choice."

His right hand flexed slightly as his fingers adjusted his grip on his sword before clamping down tightly on the hilt. Muscles tensed, as the strength of his grip increased.

Rookie. He was in the presence of two Uchiha -- two of the strongest Uchiha -- such antics were foolish and useless when we could easily discern his chakra building up within his arms. There wasn't any time to be indecisive in war; if he wasn't going to pick his side - and pick it wisely - I would do so for him. Needless to say, he was still completely unaware of potential danger from behind, so I used that to my advantage.

Five meters was rather small, especially considering the schematics of the building. Therefore, as I leaped forward, silently and fluidly, my hands met and danced a melody of seals I had grown so accustomed to in my years as a shinobi. By the time I landed on the ground a mere couple feet behind Kayori (Arm-length apart), nothing in response to my seals would have manifested - instead, invisibly my chakra would continue to build up on it's own accord¹ .

Considering this Konoha native was facing Kouketsu, he'd have no knowledge of such, let alone of my presence behind him until it was too late. That being said, my right arm ascended into the air as I began to speak, the porcelain material that made up the mask on my face doing well to muffle my voice considerably.

"Choose wisely." Those very prominent eyes of mine pierced every inch of his form; would he really test our resolve? "You have two seconds."

The Sharingan didn’t just present one with exceptional perception and the intelligibility of a god for frontal opts only. No, its powers were more rooted, and dwelled in all aspects of visual prowess in general; his frontal sights captured all, but more importantly in this matter, his peripheral spectrum was invaded. Head turning slightly in the midst of his battle preparations did a shadow emerge stoic, and without indecision, almost instinctively did the young man call out in attempts to aid his fellow shinobi. However, as first projected, his own inability to resist helping others would become his demise. Words with intent deliberately silenced by forces not even the boy’s all-seeing eyes could comprehend at the moment.

“Kayori, behin—“A less than settle force halted his decree.

One’s ignorance was another’s bliss, and with that, Ryūsuke would face the judgment of lady irony. In attempts to forewarn the approach of the specter that revealed himself amongst the platform above the Hokage’s tower would the scarlet-haired be forced off of it? The back of his crimson-coated cranium swallowed by the weight of the earth itself, abielt a soft discomfort as the sandaled limb impacted his frame. Momentum, velocity, and the sheer subordinate of surprise aided a tremendous frontal push. Warning came in scarcity, and the Hokage was now left to take all the suffering and damage. Body reluctantly moving forward as his feet retreated from the ground; he’d soon find himself soaring, tumbling mid air and finally off the ascended plain in whole.

However, not before a turned head, with the slightest anticipation from the Uchiha’s eyes itself allowed him a brief side perception—more than enough for his Sharingan to instantaneously register its origins. Kōketsu was a rather furtive individual.

Arms crossed over his chest, softening the external damage implicated through plummeting debris and solid structures his flame penetrated with ease, The Hokage soon found himself face-first into the concrete floor directly across from the field of battle. (“I was foolish...”) Thoughts revealing emotions normally held quiescent as the Hokage lifted himself from his resting bed of filth and crumbled stone. A slight ache resonating within the nape of his neck soon vanishing as the kick itself produced minute aftermath. Two opponents regrettably became three, and knowing the seriousness of both combatants, it was time to renounce all restraints. Kayori was a member of Anbu, and knew when to evacuate. Desperate times called for desperate matters, however luckily for the Hokage, all sentiments of importance stored within his former place of business was stored elsewhere in fear of this fated day to come.

Both arms, through the willpower beckoned forth in times of distress erupted with flames, Agni serving its purpose of Amaterasu’s physical vessel—Ryūsuke called upon the powers of the goddess of flames herself. Smoke infecting the space unswervingly around him, rustic summer hues emerging as the Uchiha’s chakra spiraled frenziedly within the instruments of fiery destruction. Seconds had passed since the boy’s forced exit, but now it was time to reintroduce himself—Uchiha Ryūsuke, Niidaime Hokage and savior of Konohagakure no Sato.

(“I apologize…. But it must be done…”)

Concurrently, both arms shot forward, aimed at the central point of the Hokage’s residence, and by its own leader, would its foundation disintegrate. Instantly, erupting from the twin gauntlets with a zealous hunger would the majestic, and overpowering flames demonstrate their might. Shooting towards the tower roughly 20 meters away, they’d soon unite, and mold themselves into the embodiment of power itself—the mighty Dragon. Hungry and devastating would the building instantly feel its force. Ryūsuke’s strongest technique rupturing the very edifice itself, erupting through the side, and allowing its pure essence to sweep through the building, it would only a fraction of a second before the top leverl would feel the diminishing of its predecessor in the form of strong tremors and frail explosions that only strengthened within fractions of a second. Soon enough, it would engulf the entire structure, and from his vantage, Ryūsuke witnessed all; and unlike before, he was conscious of what surrounded him.

Special: Can make up to one dragon head that measures 5 meters in diameters, plus one more each time retrained. Dragon heads travel in a straight line roughly a bit faster than most thrown projectiles. Upon contact, they produce a wide, 10 meter explosion that results in widespread, fast moving napalm.

There was no need for two seconds. The moment Ryusuke was struck and flew across his vision away from the roof of the Hokage's Tower, his thoughts snapped back into real time and his senses flared. The threat from behind was too close for his comfort, and his instincts kicked into first gear.

Chakra propelling every single muscle in his legs, Kayori performed a curved variation of the normal Shunpo in the blink of an eye, getting out from within the danger zone that he was just standing in just a second ago and arcing towards the Nidaime Hokage, throwing himself off the roof in the process ². Ryusuke had travelled estimately twenty meters from the tower by the surprise kick, whereas Kayori only managed to achieve half of the distance with his Shunpo.

As soon as the blonde shinobi had leapt of the roof and began his free-fall to the ground, he turned around in mid-air, swinging his cocked blade widely in front of him simultaneously sending a large crescent-shaped beam of energy ¹ towards the Hokage's tower and quickening his descend. Unlike the first time, he was planning on causing some destruction this time around.

With the knowledge that his attack would damage the Hokage's tower upon which the two monsters were standing no matter what, Kayori turned his attention to his fall and landed unscathed on one of the lower and wider roof of a building next to the Hokage's tower, the tiles smashed from his landing.

Apparently, he had just missed a death by flames as he watched Ryusuke's flaming dragon heads punch through the tallest structure in Konoha, rocking the entire building and the foundation as it impacted. Kayori prepared himself for the skirmish that was to come, firmly believing that Kouketsu and the mysterious shinobi that had approached Kayori from behind wasn't going to let things end just like that.

Chakra gathering around his sword arm once more ³, the Uchiha waited in anticipation for the opponents' reply.
