In Search Of... [Relic Quest]

The mission briefing I received from my superiors was concise and to the point, an attribute I'd grown to except from the company. We traditionally operated in secrecy and, in the off chance that the document had been intercepted, the accoster would be left in the dark. My instructions had been encrypted in a language taught to all higher ranked MANJI operatives; it insisted I travel to a specific region in the barren desert of Kaze no Kuni on a retrieval mission that required my expertise.

To ensure I reached my destination without interruption, I was told to leave on the hour that the moon reached it's highest point. I did just that and without company, using my one-of-a-kind ability to take to the sky the moment I found myself in complete solitude. It came as no surprise that, even while moving at twice the speed of the average shinobi's sprint, my excursion would take hours for me to complete. Daylight crept over the horizon by the time I noticed the significant difference in the landscape. Dunes that normally scraped the sky had started to level out, as if civilization had once cultivated the area, and that's when I saw it; a monolithic structure of incredible design.

I paused for a moment to gaze at the masterfully crafted pyramid. It's foundation had withstood the test of time and remained incredibly sturdy, albeit jaded.


"Interesting," I smirked while circumventing the structure in search of any outside guardians before locating what appeared to be an entrance, which was minute and bland in comparison to the rest of the structure. I descended without hesitation, approaching the aperture expecting some sort of inherent trial upon entry. Had there been one I was poised to react, still I entered with the bubbling curiosity of a child.

A truly remarkable place that had almost seemed to disappear off the face of the earth centuries ago had finally been exposed. One of the few pyramids that still stood in the lands of Kaze no Kuni ‘Sohyo Temple’ a place that had been renowned for trouncing anyone who had elected to enter its confines. There hadn’t ever been anyone that made it through the entire temple and lived to tell the story about what they encountered while pursuing the treasure that it held within its walls. There had been story’s that the place was laced with gold, jewelry and anything else that a man would desire with his every being. This is why the mightiest men had always tried their hand to bring what was in its keep back to their villages.

As you approached the entrance of the temple it would look as if the door was open just for you, it hadn’t been anything stopping you from entering its confines. But as you entered you would quickly notice the lack of light that was available to you, the only real light was coming from the door that you had entered. To your left and right would be two large statues of samurai boasting heights that you would considered to be massive, both of them would have gathered a considerable amount of cobwebs upon them. If you would look down the hall as far as you could see it would look like an endless hallway leading into pure darkness, the walls of the place were filled with ancient pictures that had begun to fade with the test of time. But that was something that you wouldn’t have much time to admire at this point as the door that you had entered had slammed closed banishing the light from outside from its walls, now the entire room was dimly lit with torches lined along the walls of the temple. Shortly after this you would hear an evil laugh echoing throughout the hallway, following the laugh a strong burst off wind seem to had appear out of nowhere. Though it wasn’t a very strong wind it was enough to cause your heart of flutter and possibly lose your balance a bit. Now the game had just began your fate while journeying through the Sohyo’s temple is in your hands.

I soon found myself in quite a bind as the doors I'd entered so freely had slammed shut, taking with it the light provided by the outside. My only source of light had been an unreliable set of torches that lined the interior of the pyramid, though all that remained ahead of me was an ominous hallway that led to who knew where. Before I was partially robbed of my sight, I had time to marvel at the pyramid's design -- besides the aged art stood towered two warriors carved from the same material as the pyramid. Perhaps in an accordance to tradition, these two figures stood as the guardians of the temple.

Whatever the case was, I was slightly anxious about what lied ahead. The doors had closed and a noxious laugh had crept bounced throughout the area. Someone was here and was interested in my arrival. I had no idea how many people had come and gone before my arrival, or if anyone had even survived the tests this landmark provided, but I was past the point of no return and had nothing to lose as a result.

I respected the construct's elusiveness by taking precautionary measures, forming a single handseal that subsequently spawned two replicas of myself. While both replicas moved to acquire two of the lit torches, I armed myself with a single shuriken before we all pressed forward into the poorly lit hallway. Our senses were keen, awaiting anything out of the ordinary as we ventured forth into the darkness in line formation. The light provided by the torches was sufficient enough with one in the back and one in the front.

What this place had to offer was yet to be seen, but that laugh spoke wonders of it's intent. It was a malicious place and a house of evil -- one that I didn't mind purifying.

Adventurous as you were you made sure to take into account that you didn’t just go running wildly into the unknown by your lonesome. As the three of you took off into the depths of the cave the thuds off your feet hitting the ground echoed throughout the hallway, at this point it would seem that you would coast through the entrance of this cave. But that surely wasn’t the case as you had ran along the path you would trigger one of many traps the pyramid had to offer without knowing that you did so, a loud crashing noise would come from behind you. With that sound you would hear two things happening. The noise of something quickly traveling along the hallway while scrapping up against the walls, it had been a boulder that filled the entire hallway with just enough space to roll at great speeds. It would be closing in on your position with great speed, but that was all of your problems.

About 15 meters up ahead of you under the cover of the boulders racket the terrain had been altered drastically. It was no longer a path that you could run carelessly it was a drop in the terrain that spanned about 10 meters in length, but the walls along the pit was lined with a pattern of spikes on the wall. Each wall would have patches of spikes that spanned about 2 meters in width, with small openings in alternating pattern on each wall. With that said the boulder couldn’t have been any more than 10 meters away from you picking up speed by the second, what will you do?

We treaded lightly through the area, observing our surroundings while maintaining a close proximity between one another; however, a faint click soon set are minds into a panic. We froze in place, awaiting what could have been our first encounter until we heard a cacophonous thud from some distance behind us.


"Tch!" The feeling of being caught off guard was disheartening but there was no time to fret; the rumbling noise grew closer and closer with each second that passed. The clone in the aft position of our formation followed instructions, shuffling slighty out of my way as I deeply inhaled, simultaneously turning to face the incoming threat. Shuriken in hand, I allowed it to lay flat against my palm before billowing out a large portion of wind-infused chakra that coated the iron star. That same clone dropped it's torch and stepped on the end of it's handle to form handseals of it's own in the meantime.

It immediately sprung to life, jutting in the direction of our target while humming menacingly toward the encroaching object. As it propelled forward, my hands masterfully flung together to form a set of four seals that would further exert my control over the flying shuriken. The familiar "poof" sound was all I needed to hear to know that my counter had been successful and the shuriken would duplicate three times over until there were four buzzsaws careening toward the object.

It would be sliced and segmented into four quadrants that, albeit smaller, still retained their momentum. We seemed to be at the mercy of what was to come, an unexpected consequence of such a rash action -- that was until the clone who had strung his hands together stepped ahead of myself to unleash his own technique.


"Fuuton: Daitoppa," It stated calmly before unleashing an extreme torrent of wind that equally shook the chamber we traversed. It's force was great, presumably great enough to stop large pieces of stone careening in our direction. My greater aptitude in Wind Ninjutsu would ensure that we remained well guarded as an extra bit of force naturally accompanied the blast, enough to knock the rocks an additional (and at the very least) nine feet backward.

The clone in the front of our formation observed as instructed and once all was clear, we would continue to cautiously traverse the corridor. Given the nature of my clones counter, it's torch's flame had been extinguished but given the recent turn of events our minds had been somewhat geared toward locating "traps", so spotting them was sure to be somewhat easier. Some fifteen meters down the trail we noticed a significant in the floor we walked on and upon observation we noticed that the walls had also been lined with spikes.

I took the only lit torch that remained between us before signalling for my duplicates to return -- they both dispersed into a plum of smoke and their chakra stores returned to my own supply and with little effort I brazenly floated to the other side of the gap, ensuring that I landed on a "safe" patch before continuing through the mystic crypt.

Masteries Used:

[/u][/b] Fuuton has been praised as being one of the most versatile and useful out of the five basic elemental affinities. Just as quickly as it can be used for offensive measures, the wind release can then be used as an effective defense, as well. The winds of the north and south are known to be somewhat turbulent due to their mountainous domain, often times making more dangerous paths incapable of being traveled upon, less the adventurer risk being thrown off a cliff.

Master Fuuton users of this level have learned to channel this ferocity into their techniques; the Fuuton master can, upon contact, choose to "detonate" their Fuuton creation. The force generated from this "explosion" is capable of completely knocking the wind out of a target (if striking them in the torso), all the while sending them three meters back. This detonation can be applied to all Fuuton jutsu without a knock back, and stacks with those that do.

Tier One – Intuitive Chakra Control: Dedicating their lives to the medical arts, the user has refined the method of chakra control. Because of this, the cost of all chakra related techniques (Souin included) have been reduced by a single tier. This also grants the user the ability to access the Souin tier 1 mastery. [/ul]

Shinkūjin no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu which utilizes the Wind Element. After performing the necessary handseals, the user exhales wind-infused chakra onto a weapon in order to increase its sharpness, range and lethality. For example, the user can infuse a kunai to resemble a makeshift sword (no larger than a scimtar) or infuse shuriken to form massive buzz-saws.

Note: Enhanced weapons have the ability to cleanly slice through solid rock and retain their properties for up to three posts before returning to normal. It should also be noted that enhanced shuriken do not lose their momentum when intercepted, and retain all their cutting power and range when blocked or redirected.

Through the use of their innate ability with advanced cloning, the user will be able to create multiple clones of thrown shuriken. When used in combination with other jutsu, the technique allows the user to quickly overwhelm an enemy since, after performing the seals, multiple copies of the thrown tool seemingly pop out of thin air. The momentum, speed, weight and sharpness is all exactly the same as a regular shuriken.

Note: The user must know Kage Bunshin. Up to a maximum of thirty additional shuriken can be created with this technique.

One of the most notable differences between your typical shinobi and a practitioner of the Jinton style is the fact that those possessing this incredibly rare Kekkei Touta can fly. This extraordinary ability allows the user to move considerably faster than they would on foot, all the while retaining a high level of mobility.

Note: While in flight, the user moves at x2 the speed of your average shinobi. Likewise, users can perform other jutsu while this technique is active.[/ul]

“Well done!” a deep bellowing voice would echo throughout the entire hallways as you floated majestically across the pit laced with spikes at the bottom of the tunnel. It had only be the most basic of the obstacles that you would face while you moved through this maze known as ‘Sohyo’s temple.’ As you continued forward from the bit just as before everything would seem very quiet, but you should ask yourself if that was actually a good thing. Because horrid things trekked in the shadows of this building, there had been stories of mysterious beast taking refuge within these walls along with the many traps it was laced with.

Now as you continued to move down the hallway from the light that was giving to your torch you would come to what seemed like a dead in, though it was only the end the hallway that you had been traveling down. The wall at the end of hallway was beautifully designed with two different types of pictures that pointed in opposing directions. The left side of the wall would depict a mythical beast pointing down hallway that was to your left, while the right side would depict a small Child pointing in the opposite direction. Now your fate would be in your own hands, which way would you take?

As I continued down the dimly lit pathway, that same chilling voice filled the area. A sardonic congratulations that made me feel no more accomplished than I had when I originally entered. I returned an equally snide smirk as I continued down the path, eventually coming to fork in the path. Each path was marked with an image possibly foretelling what was to come.

The difference between the two was evident but I found myself eager to see what stood on the child's path and so I turned toward the right, following the path marked with innocence anxious for nothing but expecting something.

“Muhahahahaha” Once again the ominous voice that had been taunting you since you entered the building had made his presents known. At this point you would probably notice that it was monitoring your every move, every choice that you made was being judged by someone that you couldn’t even see. Though if I were you I wouldn’t worry much about what the voice, because your destiny could only be controlled by you. So while you elected to follow the path that was actually dimly lit by a plethora of torches the road would seem to have to have been curving off to the right. As you moved along you would hear a buzzing noise off in the distance, from your position you could see what looked like a set of spinning wheels that couldn’t be further than 15 meters away. There had been a fairly narrow space you could fit through spanning about 3 meters wide, these wheels are rotating so fast that you wouldn’t actually be able to see the spikes that belonged to each wheel they would just appear as blurs.

As you closed in on these wheels you would once again hear a noise coming from behind you, but this time you would hear a bunch of footsteps pounding on the ground rapidly as if someone or something was coming for you. As the noise closed in on your position you would hear a loud noise that would sound like a raging monkey, it had been a group of monkeys that were no larger than the average orangutan but that didn’t matter because they had been moving in a pack, all of these monkeys looked as if they had been zombified sporting a dark green tent on their skin. All of them would be lusting after the smell of your presence, and they would be closing in on you at great speeds. It wouldn’t take them no longer than a couple of seconds to get by you if you couldn’t make your way past the spiked spinning wheels.

Once again the mysterious onlooker mocked me with his insidious laughter. It was becoming quite annoying and but I had to applaud him for his persistence, I imagined he'd grant me the same praise. I continued forward and the area around me was dimly lit like the entrance had been. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until another noise from the distance prompted me to raise my guard. My pace slowed as the faint buzzing noise gradually got louder until I recognized another contraption intended to ward me away from what the pyramid held dear. A pair of rotating wheels that moved so fast I couldn't recognize their attributes, one on the ground and one up top.

Before I could turn to move the other way I heard a cluster of savage growls come from the other direction; apparently I had been followed. My choices were limited and the window for decision making was narrowing with each thought I made. There was little time to formulate a jutsu that required handseals to deal with either threat and I knew that running blindly toward the back of savage growls would land me in a sticky situation, especially considering the limited amount of space I had to maneuver.

Without further hesitation I bolted in the direction of the spinning wheels while concentrating my chakra to the best of my ability. As I drew closer, I recognized a small aperture between the two wheels but they had been moving so fast I couldn't tell if it was a reliable escape or not -- still I couldn't bother with the threat behind me so in a blind leap of faith I shot forward toward the aperture between the two contraptions hoping that I would find my way through to the other side.

I straightened my body as much as possible and had I landed, I would roll back to my feet -- shaken but not defeated.

As you elected to take the route of the rotating wheels of death on a leap of faith your body squeezed through just though it didn’t get through unscathed , the spikes would cause your nice suit to be ripped slightly leaving you with about 3 elongated scratches across it. But the key was that you survived and lived on to continue your pursuit of happiness, not many men have made this far within the seemingly endlessly maze but you did. So as you arrived on the other end of the spiked wheels you would see what looked like a bright light at the end of the hallway, it would appear to be the end of the hallway as you were reaching a check point of some sort. It would be wise to remain poised as you continued to move through Sohyo’s maze because as you can see, it’s not a place only filled with traps it also held deviant refuges within it.

So as you continued to push forward towards the light it would bring you to a large open area with dimensions of about 30x30, on the other side of the room there had been a door that had seemed to hold a set of stairs. Where they lead to was unknown, but it was obvious that it was the only way for you to continue onward. But at the moment you spotted the door you would also noticed a small girl sitting in the middle of the room, you would hear her whimpering historically. Though you couldn’t see her face she had seemed like the center piece of the room, she would say anything to you all she did was sit there and cry. Now it was up to you to choose how you would handle this situation, would just allow this little girl to continue to cry or would see what was wrong with her.

I tensed anxiously expecting my body to be at least moderately damaged by my blind attempt only to find myself clear to the other side of the hazardous contraptions. Like clockwork I rolled forward and propelled myself into a full stance, taking a moment to examine any ailments I may have withstood. My company apparel was noticeably damaged; three parallel lines ran down the front of my suit alluding to the nature of my previous threat. I didn't know what happened to the savages that stalked me from behind but I smirked at the thought of them being ripped to shreds by the spinning wheels.

My survey was cut short the moment a peerless white light carved into the hallway's darkness. It was almost debilitating and I shielded my eyes with my forearm as a result, moving toward it at a leisurely pace before I found myself in a well-lit open area. Directly across from me was a door that housed a staircase. Glancing around the area for an alternative path, I concluded that the only way I could go was toward the stairs. I progressed further into the open area, intending to press onward, until I noticed a small child whimpering at it's center.

A mental image resurfaced as I closed the distance between myself and the girl, of the elaborate stone carving that marked my previously undertaken path. With the pervasive eye of the Elusive Man still etched in the front of my mind, I approached her as cautiously as I would any staged trap. I punctuated my approach when five meters separated us, that was sufficient enough to carry on a conversation.


"Well now, you're the prettiest thing I've seen since I've been here, but I must ask..."


"What is a child doing in a place like this?"

[Bit]

“Well mister, I live here!” she’d say as her head was pulled out of her knees, she’d look up to you with a very pitiful look upon her face. The same tears that had been falling from her eyes would happen to change from water to little trickles of blood; her eyes would turn black as a devilish smile appeared upon her face. In that same moment her head would begin to spin in a complete circle until she was looking at your figure once again, her head would lean slightly to the side as her expression had completed changed from a sad little girl to a smile that only the devil himself could hold. The entire room would go pitch black for a moment before the light had returned to your eyes the little girl had disappeared, the room had been empty once again or was it?

A moment later the little girl had seemed to warp just in front of the door that lead to the stair case, she would let a monstrous roar that would bounce off all the walls within the room. A sight that would have truly scared the life out of certain men, but from your expedition with in the maze of Sohyo something so minuscule couldn’t have scared you right? But as the girls roar came to its end to your left and right doors would sprout open on the walls, out of those doors the same zombie monkey’s that you thought you had escaped from came pouring out. It was a total of 10 of them coming from each side of the room, they would quickly begin to close in your position all them would hold within a grasp a brown substance. As they traveled the monkey’s would begin to hurl it towards you, now you wouldn’t know exactly what it was but you’d think it be best to quickly get out of this room. But the one exit that seemed like the right way to go was were the devil’s spawn had been standing, and the two exits that had just opened were seemed like they a longer road to take especially with the monkey’s in your way. Now the question was what would you do, did you believe that this little girl had great power or would you say fuck it and truck on?

I grimaced in response to her reply. How could anyone live in this forsaken tomb, I mused before she lifted her head from between her knees revealing a worrisome expression. It came as a surprise to find that her tears had transformed into well pronounced trails of blood that ran down her face. Her eyes swelled with the same surrealistic image, an abysmal black, and a sadistic grin filled her expression.


"Who are you?" I took a step back in response, closely observing her as her neck contorted to allow her head to spin in an entire circle. Her appearance was much more demonic than what originally led on and before she responded the entire room lost all of it's luster. At that moment I poised myself to respond to any type of ambush that could have occurred when suddenly the room was filled with light once more -- only this time the girl was no longer in her position.

She was standing in front of the room's only exit where she belched a noxious roar that echoed throughout the area. Having been one of the most bizarre encounters I'd ever been subjected to, a sensation I could only attribute to fear noticeably crept up my spine until the hairs on the back of my neck stood. My jaw clinched tightly and a bead of sweat ran down the side of my face as I anticipated her attack when, out of nowhere, the left and rightmost walls opened.

From each opening poured a pack of savage beasts that sought to close the distance between us. Without hesitation I began stringing together a set of handseals, to which they all fought to interrupt me by flinging an unidentified substance in my direction. I knew for certain that I didn't want to touch anything that came from these unearthly creatures so I instinctively avoided it at all costs -- including interrupting my desired technique.

However, being a man of strategy I sought to use this interruption to my advantage by observing their attack pattern and formation. I quickly deduced that there was five of them on each side, all aiming to converge onto my position. Given their appearance, as well as their brazen attempt to ambush me, it was clear that they were dimwitted and I would also use that to my advantage. As they lobbed their projectiles in my direction, I evaded and anticipated.


4....5....6...

And with each item thrown, they drew closer....


9......10!

...until they (presumably) grouped together on my position. Before they could reach me, however, I allowed my energies to propel me into the air, well out of their range while swiftly moving to hover over the right most door that one group had emerged from. During my move, I weaved my originally intended handseals together until their completion before slicing my arm in the group's direction.


"Juuha Shou!"

A blue hued beam would swiftly careen toward them with killing intent. This beam, had it connected, would slice through each of their frames like a hot knife through butter; but most importantly I had complete control over the direction that it flew.

Under my jurisdiction it would cut through each of them before willfully bolting toward girl-turned-monstrosity with the same lethality.

Juha: Shou is a Ninjutsu technique that utilizes the Wind Element. The user performs the necessary handseals, focusing chakra into their arm or weapon. By slashing it, a single blade of cutting wind is formed, its length equal to the arc of the actual slash. Like other wind techniques, this blade is capable of cutting through wood, stone, and other such objects; what makes it unique is that the user is capable of controlling its path.

Note: The blade of wind can be destroyed if a stronger Ninjutsu technique is used upon it. Furthermore, the user can only control it so long as they have the chakra to expend upon it. Once they run out, it disappears

As your body flung into the air the and monkey’s converged on your position, your quick strategic thinking would allow you to gain an upper hand on the simple minded monsters. Though they had appeared to be monkey’s spawned from the depths of hell, they hadn’t been all that intelligent. So as you poised yourself and fired off your destructive disk of chakra it would rip through their numbers like a hot knife through warm butter. It was truly a sample of what you were actually capable of, but the thing that you would probably notice that these monkeys were undead. As there body’s were cut in half they inched along the ground using their hands to propel them forwards, but as for the wicked girl as the wave passed through her body she would seemingly glitch away. Not in the sense that she was warping from reality, but more like she never existed in the first place.

Now that vary doorway had been open to you, it would’ve been very wise to take off towards that door because those monkeys were still pursing you though they weren’t that fast. And as for the brown substance it made the floor around you very slick, it had seemed as if they planned to be cut down with the intention of making it hard to travel across the room.

My attack had hit the mark on the group of primates and as it launched toward the mysterious figure, I yearned to see her ripped apart just the same. But much to my surprise, my attack seemed to pass through her as if she were a mirage the entire time.


I didn't take lightly to being toyed with, clinching my free hand in anger as my attack appeared to be for naught. It crashed violently into the ground but still retained it's form and without hesitation I sent it careening back toward the undead monstrocities -- a sadistic grin forming on my expression in the meantime. This time it would land in the center of them all where I dismissed the attack by allowing the chakra to become unstable and literally explode; they would receive the brunt of the damage and their disgusting entrails would (presumably) splash about the area.

Hopefully they had been extinguished; I didn't intend to wait and see. Instead I descended toward the staircase and began climbing up toward the unknown once more.

I hoped the Elusive Man realized that my patience was running thin.

Tier 1 - Winds of the North and South: Fuuton has been praised as being one of the most versatile and useful out of the five basic elemental affinities. Just as quickly as it can be used for offensive measures, the wind release can then be used as an effective defense, as well. The winds of the north and south are known to be somewhat turbulent due to their mountainous domain, often times making more dangerous paths incapable of being traveled upon, less the adventurer risk being thrown off a cliff.

Master Fuuton users of this level have learned to channel this ferocity into their techniques; the Fuuton master can, upon contact, choose to "detonate" their Fuuton creation. The force generated from this "explosion" is capable of completely knocking the wind out of a target (if striking them in the torso), all the while sending them three meters back. This detonation can be applied to all Fuuton jutsu without a knock back, and stacks with those that do.
