HOSPITAL CRISIS!

DESCRIPTION: As a medic it's your duty to help out the village when it's in need- and it just so happens that the hospital needs your help to take care of the patients that are suddenly flowing in to the place! Heal as many people as you can whilst also keeping up the excellent medical service that Kusagakure strives to uphold. Failure is not an option and any botch job medical treatments will make the user face strict penalties!
OBJECTIVE: Heal as many patients as you can in the hospital!
MININUM SHINOBI: 1
PAY: 25 EXP and 500 Ryo/50 EXP and 1,000 Ryo/100 EXP and 2,500 Ryo.

Sunlight.

Tsukune was enjoying it while he could. As he took the last few steps into the hospital, the bright warmth of the sun faded into the stark white luminescence of florescent lighting. He sighed, shaking his head of the idly distracting thoughts. He instead headed towards the reception desk. A young man sat behind it, with thick dark hair and eyes with bags just as dark under them. Tsukune waited until the patrons at the counter walked away, and then stepped up to it.

Step.

”Excuse me,” he said, his voice soft, yet clear. “Shikou Tsukune, here to assist with the wounded?” He didn't look the part, he knew. He was, however, a medical shinobi, if not a very astute one. He had plenty of training in anatomy and first aid, however, which more than made up for the lack of his raw chakra power. The assistant, harried as he was, did not respond for a moment, instead furiously signing a number of forums on his desk. He looked up a moment later, registering comprehension in his eyes.

“Ah, yes, Shikou-san,” The young man said. He sounded tired. He riffled through a few papers before holding up a manilla folder, offering it to Tsukune. “Here are you assignments. You'll be stationed in the Level One Ward; it's nothing serious up there, just minor injuries that we don't need wasting the time of our more experienced doctors.” He made a gesture towards a nearby hallway as Tsukune took the folder. “It's right down the hall, in the North Wing.”

Hmm.

Tsukune read over the medical dossier he had been handed as he made his way down the hallway. All around him, doctors and civilians were hurrying back and forth, somehow managing to avoid knocking into each other. He supposed that all support ninja learned a certain amount of unconscious evasion, if they survived for very long. Becoming an iryou-nin was kind of like painting a gigantic target on your back, as far as enemy shinobi were concerned. Suffer not a doctor to live, as they say. He looked down at the papers in his hand.

First patient, Touketsu Ren. Age twenty-four, Chuunin. Injured during raid on dissident hide-out. Piercing wound to received from kunai during initial ambush. Weapon penetrated epidermis and soft tissue to a depth of an inch and a half in the lower anterior of the abdomen. Skin and muscle tissue severed by blade, however all vital organs were missed. Lost a small amount of blood before pressurizing and binding the wound. Age of injury at time of admission is seven hours, twenty minutes.

Hmm.

It seemed simple enough. He rounded the corner, stepping into the wide open space of the Level One Ward. Several doors lined the walls, leading to private rooms, and a number of beds sat near the windows on the open floor, for the less pressing patients. One such patient, Bed A13, was Touketsu Ren. Tsukune eyed him up as he walked closer. He seemed like a well-scarred man, with the kind of well-built body that most career shinobi possessed. He frowned, stepping up to the man.

“Excuse me, Touketsu-san?”

The man looked up at Tsukune, his eyes weary. He nodded after a long second, stifling a yawn with the back of his hand. Tsukune just studied him for a while, taking into account what he could. He was clutching his hand to his stomach, presumably where the wound was, underneath his simple black shirt. There was a splotch of blood underneath the hand, by now mostly dried into the shirt. He was hunching as though in pain, but not an undue amount of it. Tsukune nodded.

“Alright,” he said, setting the dossier down. “Take the shirt off, please, and lie back on the bed.” His mouth twitched slightly as a joke flashed through his head. That's what she said. He ignored it, helping the man out of his shirt as he kept pressure on his wound. The man lay back, reluctantly taking his hand away from the puncture wound. Almost immediately, a small amount of blood oozed up from the wound. Tsukune examined the wound, scrutinizing it with a sort of detached interest.

A bit swollen.

“Alright,” he said again, after a moment of examination. “I'm going to have to disinfect this before I heal it, just to be sure. It's going to hurt, so brace yourself. You ready?” The man hesitated, and then nodded once. Tsukune gave him an encouraging nod and reached for the cabinet near by, pulling out a bottle of disinfectant. He measured it out and, with a moment's trepidation, poured it gently around the wound. It sizzled immediately, foaming a thick white and causing the man to jerk in involuntary pain.

“Hold still.”

Tsukune set the bottle aside, waiting for the fizzing to subside. After a few moments it died down, and the foam dissolved into the air. He examined it for a moment longer before he was satisfied with it. He put his hands together over the man's wound, forming a few short hand seals. He channelled chakra out from his core and up into his hands, finely controlling it. As he finished his seals, he poured it into his hands, keeping it as tightly contained inside of his digits as possible.

Just a little bit, now.

He rested his hands over the wound on the man's stomach, hovering perhaps an inch above the wound. A half-translucent orb of green chakra encased his hands, wrapping around to encompass the wound within itself as well. The medical chakra from his palms flowed down into the wound, stimulating the cells surrounding the injury, pouring energy into them. Tsukune frowned a bit, focusing on the complex construct of chakra he was constructing in the open space of the wound.

Slowly, the cells were being stimulated to regenerate, their flesh growing in accordance with the guidance constructs he had formed out of his chakra. Muscle, veins, nerves, and skin, all of them were properly re-organized. The flesh writhed underneath the young shinobi's palms, coming together, first at the very bottom of the wound, then slowly filling in all the ways towards the top. As the muscles knit themselves back together, flesh, fresh and pink, grew over the wound, forming a faint, clean scar.

Good enough.

“Alright, you should be fine, now.” Tsukune said, regarding the scar with a critical eye. It wasn't perfect work. He could have knit the structures back together more cleanly, but it would do for now. “The new tissue is going to take a bit of time to settle, so try not to agitate it for the next day or so. Other than that, you should be fine.” The man nodded, tugging his shirt back down and thanking Tsukune. The young ninja picked up his dossier again, sitting down on the bedside and reading up on the next file.

Let's see now...

Patient name: Ishikoro, Hisanna. Female, age fifteen, Genin. Patient injured when ambushed by rogue shinobi during standard C-rank patrol mission. Patient suffered multiple injuries in ensuing struggle. Cutting wound on upper right bicep, caused by standard-make kunai. Penetrated to a depth of two centimetres, muscle tissues severed and one minor vein received nick. Cutting wound on left lower back, caused by standard-make kunai. Penetrated to a depth of three and a one eighth centimetres. Muscle tissues severed, vein severed.

Multiple blunt-force injuries along face, arms, and chest, likely caused by hand-to-hand combat. Nothing more severe then bruising, possible small amounts of internal bleeding along sternum from particularly strong impact. Piercing injury, left shin., caused by standard-make kunai. Penetrated to a depth of four centimetres. Muscle tissue severed, one minor vein severed. Patient stabilized, sanitized, and injuries clotted to prevent further blood-loss. Time since incident at time of report: one hour, thirty-one minutes.

Ouch.

Tsukune frowned down at the folder in his hands. This one sounded a bit more serious than the last one. She was stable, though, so he could see why the doctors would put her in the Level One Ward. Still, he wasn't sure they understood just how inexperienced he was. He shook his head, trying to disperse his doubts. He could do it. The hospital was over-packed as it was. The village still didn't have its feet under it. They simply couldn't spare any other doctors to this work. The fact that the poor girl was suffering was enough for him.

He sighed. He sometimes he hated feeling compassion. He stood up from the bed, checking the sheet in his hands again. She was down at the very end of the Level One Ward, in bed A67. Tsukune slipped the sheet neatly into the folders, looking around for a long moment to get his bearings. He made his way down the direction of the ascending numbers. He could see one bed, cleanly curtained off at the end of the hall. He sucked in a deep breath, then stepped up to the white cloth, parting it and stepping inside.

Oh, no.

It was a difficult thing to look at. The curtains had been drawn for her privacy; the young girl had her shirt off, and her still-growing chest was heaving in a way that might have been attractive if it hadn't been for the fact that she was obviously in pain. A number of painful purling bruises spread unabated down her arms, to her chest, and up to her checks. One of her eyes was black and swollen. There was a nasty looking gash on her arm, and he knew there was an other on her back underneath her. A puncture wound, its edges thick and red.

“Ishikoro-san, my name is Shikou Tsukune,” He said quietly. The girl looked up at him, her face hazed with pain. She nodded to him once, acknowledging his presence. Her wounds weren't horrible, but there were a number of them, and it was clear from her expression that this was the first time that she had really experienced true pain, outside of the little pains of living a sterilized civilian lifestyle. He felt bad for the poor girl; it never got better. You just learned to control yourself better.

“Your chart says that you've be sterilized and had your injuries treated for infection, so I'm just going to heal them and you'll be done here.” The girl nodded, something similar to comprehension dawning on her expression. Tsukune rolled up the sleeves of his coat, slipping a pair of sterilized disposable gloves on his hands. The only thing that was left to do to him was the close the wounds. That wouldn't require anything more than the rigorous application of the Mystical Healing Hands technique.

Here we go.

He formed a few swift hand seals, focusing chakra into his hands. The gentle energy washed into him, giving him tingles in his fingers and through his palms. He smoothed his hands out and settled his focus into them, exerting a little effort of will and generating that distinctive orb of emerald green chakra around his hands. He looked over the girl, his hands hesitating for a few long seconds. He had to start somewhere. He wasn't comfortable asking her to turn over until he dealt with the other wounds...

We'll start with the puncture wound.

It seemed like the best decision. It was the most severe of them, after all, and would pose the most problems when tending to her other injuries. Gently, he brought his hands down, past the short skirt of a muted red, underlaid with tight black athletic shorts. He brought the glowing orb over the wound, encompassing it in the soft glow. It sunk into the wound, and he began re-establishing the structure of the body below. The puncture hadn't destroyed too much tissue, thankfully.

Mostly, it would be a matter of knitting flesh back together. He first sought out the vein that had been torn apart by the kunai. He linked the two frayed ends of the tube together with chakra, creating an invisible chain between the two of them. Next, he kneaded his chakra into the muscle tissue around them, setting up the same framework of unseen links between torn flaps of flesh. He thickened the net, adding more and more strands until the inside of the wound was something like a spider's web.

Here's the tricky part.

Slowly, using his chakra, he coaxed that flesh into moving, all at once, in slow, rippling waves, as the network of chakra contracted. Slowly, surely, the flesh was drawn together, like two pieces of fabric being stitched into one. It took nearly a minute of slow, gentle effort, but the red matter flowed together, the two broken ends aligning themselves to one another. Tsukune sent a pulse of healing energy down into it, forcing the muscles to form together, knitting into one, joining the broken tube of the vein back into one whole...

Come on, now...

Slowly, the torn skin become one, straight from the severed vein up to the skin, slowly forming new layers of fresh pink skin. Tsukune grunted slightly; it had been a bit more of an effort than he had thought, to close up that wound entirely. He regarded it for a long second, taking his hands away. The wound had sealed itself, turning into a neat little circle of puckered scar tissue. It would keep itself closed, and the rest of the healing would happen on its own. It wouldn't break open any more, for sure.

His hands laid on her thigh for a moment longer as she let out a long sigh of relief. Medical chakra was almost its own anesthetic, when it came to moderate injuries. It felt like being rolled in soft sheets and the gentle caress of sunlight, all wrapped into a relaxing tingling sensation. She smiled at him faintly, and he lifted his hands from her, walking around her to move to the wound on her bicep. He checked it over; a simple cutting wound, just as the dossier had said.

Shouldn't be too difficult.

He formed the hand seals once more, the feeling starting to become rote to him. Soft chakra rushed out of his core and formed that now-familiar glow, wrapping around his hands as he laid them perhaps two centimetres above the surface of her flesh. A gentle orb of colour radiated outwards, taking her body into it and encapsulating the wound. He repeated his routine, spreading his chakra down into it, bringing together the separated parts with a tightening network of chakra cords...

Hmm...

“Are you doing alright?” Tsukune asked the girl gently, his eyes focused on the wound at her side. He was knitting the flesh back together with his chakra, forming a sheen of new skin over the top of the sealing wound. She smiled up at him, her eyes a little bit unfocused. She twitched her had back and forth for a moment, and when she settled again, her eyes were clear and aware. She looked at him warmly, and he risked a glance into her verdantly green eyes before focusing back on his work.

“I'm doing alright, Shikou-san,” She said, her voice weary. “It feels a lot better when you do that.” She made a small rolling motion with her shoulders, an appreciative sigh coming out of her mouth. Tsukune nodded, his expression bemused. Medical chakra had that effect on the body. He was glad it worked that way. It was a lot better than trying to perform medicine without it. That turned into nothing but a mess of pain and blood and made a tremendous mess. Techniques were easier to keep straight than medications.

All set.

“You can call me Tsukune,” He said absently, running his fingers over the scar tissue. It was a bit tight, but she would retain full functionality. He nodded once, pleased with his own work. He looked her over, stuidously avoiding looking at parts he wasn't supposed to be looking at. She turned a bit red, blushing in spite of herself. He coughed delicately, then shook his head. “Would you mind rolling on to your stomach for me, Ishikoro-san? I need to heal your back.”

“Of course.”

She started to turn slowly, wincing as she did so. She let out a gasp of pain as the muscles in her back shifted, her eyes fluttering shut. Tsukune put a hand on her shoulder, steadying her. She looked at him once in unspoken gratitude, and he helped her roll over, aligning herself on to her stomach. He traced his fingers down her spine, gently testing the edges of the wound on the back of her abdomen. He didn't like the look of it; it was messier than the other ones had been, leaving a ragged cut down her back.

Nothing for it.

He reactivated his Mystical Healing Hands technique, bringing it gently over the wound. This one would be a bit more difficult to heal. Because of the jagged shape of it, some periphery pieces of flesh had been sheared off completely. It wouldn't be enough to simply knit the flesh back together. He prepared the cords of chakra, linking them together on both sides of the wound. Where flesh had been cut off, he simply filled that spot with a construct of chakra, mimicking the tissue entirely.

Piece by piece, as he drew the flesh together, he fed chakra into the cells surrounding his chakra constructs, stimulating them to divide and grow. The extended along the construct, drawing on his provided energy to replicate themselves, creating entirely new flesh from almost nothing. Piece by piece, the wound on her back stitched itself back together, lining up the pieces of flesh and sealing into a single, unbroken whole, marked only by a curving line of scar tissue...

“Roll on your back again, please,” Tsukune said, pushing up his sleeves again, as they began to sag back. He peeled off the gloves, tossing them into a nearby trash can. She moved, a lot more easily this time, slowly turning from back to front. She settled herself, half sitting up, supported by her arms, facing him. He turned a bit red, turning his gaze away from her and busying himself in her chart for a long moment. “We just need to heal your bruises up, for the last thing.”

She smiled, her face bright red.

Tsukune swallowed audibly, forcing himself to focus on his technique. He stumbled through the hand seals, his palms encasing themselves in a fierce emerald glow. Gently, he lowered it to her face, working out the purple colours of the bruise. An appreciative sigh slipped from her lips, and she tilted her head back, allowing him to trace the energy down her neck, working as he went. He breathing startened to quicken as he worked his way down, and he blushed all the way to the roots of his hair.

“Thanks, Tsukune-kun,” She said, with a little smile playing on her lips, as he finished up. He swallowed again, hurriedly gathering up his files and stacking them together. She smirked, putting her shirt on, still bright red herself. She slid herself off the table, making a few experimental motions. After a few pretend punches, she nodded to herself, apparently satisfied. She swept past Tsukune, parting the cotton curtains and stepping into the sunlight. “I'll see you around.”

Ah, the hospital.

It felt oddly familiar, stepping back into the two-toned hallways of the medical centre. Of course, it was just a trick of his memory. The Kusakage's Atrium was patterned in much the same way, most likely intentionally, and the memories of the two of them mixed together. All in all, it made him feel as though there was one place he kept going back and forth from, even if it was in two different places. He mused on that thought for a while, considering the intricacies of space and time.

Even those thoughts had to end, however. Before long, his feet carried him up to the main desk of the hospital. Sitting behind it was a familiar face; a tired-eyed young man, possessed of long limbs and short, dark hair. He glanced up at Tsukune, his eyes marked with deep lines. As hard as Tsukune had worked for the hospital, it was clear that some people worked harder, in their own way. He didn't think that this guy had even slept since he last saw him, a number of hours ago.

Man.

“Shikou Tsukune,” He said, though the man surely remembered his name. “Here to assist the wounded.” The man nodded blearily, holding up a thick manilla folder to him. Apparently, now that they had met once, they were close enough to merit wordless communication. Or maybe the man was just that tired. Tsukune took it with a murmur of gratitude, stepping away from the desk to lean against the wall nearby. He flipped open the file, looking over the information contained within.

The Iryou Diaries

Sokushii hitoshii made his way past the populous area of the market into a grey stoned path. It was at the end of this path which marked the location of a hospital. The silver-hued chuunin would make his way in haste, he wanted to be the first to arrive. On this particular day he had chosen to wear an all white suit, without the blazer of course, with a black tie. He wanted to make a great impression on his first day – but in some way he still thought of himself as overdressed.

Interesting !

I could see myself in the reflection of the front entrance – a stainless steel door with golden handles. In small writing, prescribed just atop the handle of the door, the building name and address was labeled. I took hint to it before returning my attention ahead as I walked into the main lobby of the building. At first glance it would seem to me that I was alone here. . no scream from any patient echoed the hall. . no visitors sitting in the waiting room. It was gloomy, it really was, but I was not here to judge the appearance of this monument – I was going to become a part of it. There weren’t many ways nowadays to chisel down ones own hatred. Maybe becoming a medic will help me better understand the ways of others.. I would think to myself as I walked into a hallway decorated with black tiles; several rooms positioned to my left and right.

My body shook involuntarily to the cold chill of the atmosphere as I scanned each and every opening. It would take some time for me to finally gather up the willpower to seek for help. Tense steps would bring me into the first room to my right in hopes to finding someone who could point me in the right direction.
