The Hyūga Clan is one of the four noble clans of Konohagakure. Each clan member possesses the "Byakugan"— a doujutsu that, when activated, gives the clan member extra-sensory perception, penetrating sight, and telescopic vision.

With their Byakugan, Hyūga clan members can see other beings' chakra and the circulatory system that carries it through their bodies. This sight, combined with the clans' unique ability to expel chakra from the "tenketsu" (or pressure points) along their own chakra pathway system, allows them to neutralize the flow of chakra in others with precise and seemingly grazing touches.

To protect their family's secrets, the Hyūga are separated into two groups: The Main House (宗家, Sōke), who act as the clan's representatives, and The Branch House (分家, Bunke), who serve as guardians to their main house counterparts.

A common practice of theirs is to pair children that are close in age so that they mature into their roles together.

Joining the Hyuuga requires a Clan trait, as well as Kekkei Genkai trait.

Description: Unlike other dōjutsu which do not manifest until users meet certain conditions, the Byakugan is present from the time of birth. Individuals with the Byakugan are typically identifiable by their unique eyes: the iris is enlarged and white, and there are no distinguishable pupils. When users activate their Byakugan, the pupils become more distinct and the increased blood flow to their eyes causes the veins near their temples to bulge. The Byakugan's array of abilities have rendered it highly coveted. In order to prevent the Byakugan from being acquired by enemies, the Hyūga clan developed a practice of applying cursed seals to most of its members; when those branded with the cursed seal die, their Byakugan is destroyed.

Individuals with a Byakugan have a near-360º field of vision around themselves, save for a small blind spot at the back of the neck above the first thoracic vertebra. The Byakugan's vision can penetrate almost any object, allowing users to see through walls, peer underground, or even examine the contents of a person's body. Certain barriers have been shown to block a Byakugan's sight, as have smokescreens that are comprised of a particular mineral dust. Users can focus their vision on anything and everything within the Byakugan's range, allowing them to monitor individuals from afar, or to quickly survey a vast area and pinpoint specific locations within that area.

The Byakugan can see chakra, enabling users to distinguish certain types of clones from their original, and even identify specific individuals' chakra signatures. Its ability to see chakra is acute enough to see the chakra pathway system within a target's body and the 361 tenketsu that run along it. As a result of the Byakugan's ability to see chakra, users are able to determine if an opponent is currently performing a genjutsu - yet it does not seem to give its users any particular defense against an opponent's genjutsu. Lastly, it can use infrared to detect a target through their body heat, determine the development of one's chakra, and even tell if one can mold chakra at all. Truly one of the three great doujutsu indeed.

{Main Family Cursed Seal}

Hyūga Sōke no Juinjutsu (Hyūga Main Family's Juinjutsu)

Description: This cursed seal is used by the Hyūga clan in order to protect their kekkei genkai, the Byakugan. Members of the clan's main house brand members of the clan's branch houses with the cursed seal so that, when they die, their Byakugan will be sealed away, preventing its secrets from being learned by enemies. The cursed seal can also be used by the main house to discipline branch house members - if a main house member uses a special hand seal, the branch house member will experience intense pain, discouraging them from disobeying the main house again. If the pain is great enough, it can even kill the branch house member, destroying their brain cells. Members of the branch house are branded with the cursed seal on the third birthday of the clan's next heir or heiress, regardless of their own age at the time. Cursed seals are placed on the recipient's forehead, for which reason they tend to keep it covered, such as with their forehead protector.

• The path of the Gentle Fist (柔拳, Jūken) involves a form of hand-to-hand combat that inflicts internal damage through attacking the body's Chakra Pathway System, subsequently injuring organs which are closely intertwined with the area of the network which has been struck.
  
  You do this by surgically injecting a certain amount of you chakra into the opponent's tenketsu, causing damage to surrounding organs due to their proximity to the circulatory system. However, this can only work by employing the use of your Byakugan, as it can see the 361 nodes that are key gate-keeping interceptions in the chakra circulatory network.
  
  At Rank 1, you can destroy any chakra-based substance by releasing chakra from your own tenketsu in your hands and molding it into a needle-like shape in order to slice through the chakra, and you reduce the amount of actions used in multi-hit Eight Trigram Palm techniques by 1/4.
  
  Since the path of the Gentle Fist is rooted in taijutsu, at Rank 2 you can emit chakra from any tenketsu on command, making being bound by chakra-based substances less probable, and you can reduce the amount of actions used in multi-hit Eight Trigram Palm techniques by 1/2.
  
  At Rank 3, being bound by chakra-based substances is now almost impossible, and you can reduce the amount of actions used in multi-hit Eight Trigram Palm techniques by 3/4.

Limit: Each time you take this trait, the ninja grade requirement increases by 1.

Description: This attack consists of a quick, precise thrust of the Hyuuga's palm into the opponent's body. The attack sends chakra into the area where the target is struck to either stun them, or if a more sufficient amount of chakra is used, cause severe internal damage.



Hakke Jūroku Shō (Eight Trigrams Sixteen Palms)

Description: The Eight Trigrams Sixteen Palms is a maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a halved version of the already halved Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through sixteen chakra points of an opponent's chakra pathway system. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and renders them unconscious. It also appears to cause internal damage. Once someone is within range of his field of divination, the Hyuuga assumes their Gentle Fist stance and begins to deliver their attack.

Description: The Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms is a maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a halved version of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, but seems to be no less effective. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through thirty-two chakra points of an opponent's chakra pathway system. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move. Once someone is within range of her field of divination, the Hyuuga assumes their Gentle Fist stance and begins to deliver their attack.



Hakke Rokujūyon Shō (Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms)

Description: This is a secret taijutsu of the Hyūga clan's main house, traditionally only known by the head of the clan and the clan's heir. Using their Byakugan's near-360° field of vision, the Hyūga envisions themselves within the centre of an Eight Trigrams symbol. The user then delivers a series of attacks to a target that is within the symbol's perimeter, striking sixty-four of their tenketsu. Those sixty-four tenketsu are subsequently blocked, stopping the flow of chakra within the target's body and making it difficult for them to move. Alternatively, the sixty-four strikes can be split amongst multiple targets, such as to to deflect incoming projectiles. The sixty-four strikes are broken into six smaller sets. Users perform each set of strikes within the same length of time, but because each set has more strikes than the one before it, the set's strikes become increasingly faster. The last set, during which thirty-two strikes are performed, is especially difficult, demanding great resolve and a strong step forward to pull off. As targets are struck, they are increasingly knocked backwards, with the combined force of the final sets being great enough to push them through tree trunks.



Hakke Kūshō (Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm)

Description: This technique is similar in practice to Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven, but has a specific target rather than a general area. To perform it, the Hyuuga precisely pinpoints the enemy's vital points with the Byakugan and releases a high-speed palm thrust. A "vacuum shell" compressed using the Gentle Fist is formed to attack the opponent's vitals from a distance, blowing them off their feet with tremendous force before they even notice they were hit, as well as sending the victim flying backwards. With extra chakra and stamina added, this attack can be delivered from both palms.



Hakke Hazangeki (Eight Trigrams Mountain Crusher)

Description: A much more powerful variation of Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm. The Hyuuga hits the target at close range with a powerful wave of chakra emitted from their palm, which sends them flying back, causing severe damage. Rather than pinpoint towards specific parts of the body, this is meant to overwhelm the target as a whole, which decreases its range potential, but exponentially increases its damage threshold and overall destructive nature. Not only does the target get knocked back further than with the regular Vacuum Palm, but even fixed items, such as trees, posts, and rocks, can get blasted away in the process.



Hakke Hyaku Nijūhasshō (Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms)

Description: The Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms is a technique of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a seventh step to the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, doubling the previous barrage total and at twice the speed. To perform, the user crutches down while extending both arms outward, one in front and the other behind while angled like propeller blades. This adds another row of kanji to the envisioned Eight Trigrams symbol, extending the technique's perimeter. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through one hundred and twenty-eight chakra points of an opponent's Chakra Pathway System. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move. Alternatively, it can be used to hit a great number of targets very quickly. Once someone is within range of the user's field of divination, they assume a Gentle Fist stance and begin to deliver the attack.



Hakkeshō Kaiten (Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven)

Description: This is a secret taijutsu of the Hyūga clan's main house, traditionally only known by the head of the clan and the clan's heir. The moment before the Hyūga is struck by an attack, they emit chakra from all of their body's tenketsu to block it. They then spin rapidly, repelling the attack (and anything else in the vicinity) away and creating a protective shield for as long as they continue to spin. The greater the force of an attack, the greater the force with which it's repelled.
Revolving Heaven is meant to compensate for the blind spot of the Hyūga's Byakugan. But in this regard it is quite effective, leading many to describe it as an absolute defense. While normally a short-range maneuver, users can still repel attackers from several feet away and do so with such force that it ploughs the ground around them, cratering the terrain around them save for the location they stand on.



Jūho Sōshiken (Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists)

Description: The Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists is a high-level secret Gentle Fist technique typically taught only to the main branch of the Hyūga clan. The user changes the shape of chakra released from both hands into large guardian lion-shaped shrouds. Doing so greatly increases range and destructive power. The lion heads drain the chakra network of those they touch. By expelling chakra from the tenketsu as an innate ability exclusive to the Hyūga, and using precise chakra control, the clan member is able to shape the chakra around their fists in the form of the aforementioned blue guardian lions. It is an extremely difficult ability to learn, as the slightest mistake in chakra control will lead to failure, meaning it is a feat requiring the Byakugan. This technique can also be used in conjunction with other Jyuuken techniques, increasing their already dangerous potential to outright lethal.



Shugohakke Rokujūyon Shō (Protecting Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms)

Description: One of the ultimate Hyuuga abilities, this is a highly versatile technique which affords both offensive and defensive capabilities, whereby the clan member emits a constant stream of chakra from their palms, which are formed into extremely thin, sharp, laser-like blades. While using this technique offensively, the Hyuuga shapes the chakra into thin, sharp, flexible blades allowing them to hit multiple targets with extreme precision, as well as can cut smaller targets into pieces. When used defensively, the clan member creates much larger, stronger, more flexible, arc-shaped chakra blades that spread out across their entire attack range, effectively forming a barricade between themselves and their opponents, rebuffing even the largest and smallest of targets. This technique creates an "absolute defense" effect similar to that of the Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven, though the cutting nature of the chakra prevents any outside force from restricting it.
