HEAVENS ABOVE! [Training]

Although she had been training in the prescence of her five patients after she had somewhat rescued them from quite a grizzly end, she hadn’t exactly expected a sudden sixth person to make their appearance nearby- Or she could at least tell that something with a humanoid figure was situated nearby, as she could tell from the silhouette that he or she placed on the snow beneath them. Looking around at her patients once more, she would nod her head- They should be fine for now. ”You may go now- Get some rest.” she would tell them all in her usual authorative tone, suggesting that they catch up on some well needed to sleep to make sure that they were of the best of health for the next few days in tetsu. Staying out in the snow would do them no good whatsoever.

And, as they then started to leave, she couldn’t help but keep her gaze at the nearby figure as it lazed around innocently, the figure being close to her height from what she could tell by simply looking at whoever it had been. But- Althouhg she couldn’t tell who it was at the moment they seemed to have no bad intent from the way they were walking around and seemed to be more interested in.. sticking out their tongue for the snow to gently fall upon it? How very curious- Surely, the person was either young, or was simply a little bit deranged- Although Blanche had been older than the figure in all truths, she did act years older which sometimes suggested that she be older than what her appearance gave- She looked at least 20, and being 21, it complimented her. However, speaking in the same manner a 29 year old or older would speak, it was a strange thing.

However, minutes would pass and Blanche would soon grow weary of the figure’s silence that was current raking through the area- Just why was he- ”You- Leaf nin, are you attending the exams?” she would ask as her steps through the snow would bring her closer to the figure that she was currently faced with. Her words having come quicker than her thoughts, her face bore an expression of slight anger, and her tone was firm and serious- But that was just her, she wasn’t trying to be so aggressive, of course. As she would near him his headband would become even clearer- She had read Konohagakure from it a few minutes ago upon looking at him but up close- His headband was quite hidden away, being on his arm.

Now, she would wait for him to answer, wondering exactly why he was here and why, of every place in Tetsu, he had ended up here, near where she was. Surely it was simply a coincidence but what if it hadn’t been one? Such possibilities were rife in the air and Blanche was one to ponder them but- Surely it wouldn’t be as bad as she had thought- The guy didn’t seem to be up to any bad things, but then again, that might be what he wanted her to think. ”Surely, out in the cold is no place for you to be.” she would say as another cold breeze hit them , she being unaffected by it due to the fact that.. well. She couldn’t let her guise falter- She was the holy lady Blanche- Cold was no problem to her.

It was his own slice of white winter, this single spot in the snow where he stood. He found solace that there was a dearth of ice, the ground harboring no moisture to make it. The sapped ground gave birth to his firm footing, a spot of hard semi frozen earth. In his private tundra he could see over the wall that separated the compound from the chilled bridge and the bare trees that lie in forests in the distance. The only vegetation seeming to be hardy grass that even so withered on occasion and the occasional evergreen pine that seemed to shrug off the winter gale so very easily. He could if he concentrated, if he focused, discern the gentle pine scent amidst the chaotic wind which swept in every odd direction. Every sniff was seemingly more and more futile as he began to develop the symptoms of a cold even though he knew it wasn’t a sickness, simply the dearth of heat outside. He kept his eyes closed, just for a second, just to enjoy to relish the ambient sounds of nature. He could block out the occasional grate of armor plates, of crunching ice, of his ever increasing labored breath to hear just the whistle of wind, the shake of pine needles, the clumps of snow. He would keep his eyes closed for a bit more, just a little bit more.

He breathed in deeply, silently, serenely and sighed out tension escaping through his breath. The cold seemed to melt away in both literal and figural speech. A shiver involuntarily crawled up his spine as the cold soon returned, yet seemed more tolerable. His eyes, taking their time gently opened up to accompany the turning of his head. Something called, a person beckoned, a girl questioned him. She seemed Norse if he could be a bit stereotypical, her face white pallor and her hair spun of gold. Long and flowing it seemed to avoid the snow, pushing it away with a gentle and subtle rejection, as if to boast of its higher class. The way she carried herself seemed to radiate through his heat only one thing that he could discern; Haughtiness? He didn’t know why it seemed as such, but she appeared to crave to be above the environment in such a definite way as to visibly and silently convince an onlooker that she didn’t even seem to mind the cold. He… he didn’t understand her reason for such, was it that she had pride, perhaps she was a diplomat from… He glanced to her neck, a headband of kusagakure tied to it. Or perhaps she was simply putting out for a man or perhaps a woman.

Her voice, choked and strangled reached out to his ears and queried his existence both situational and location wise. It was curt and concise, he suddenly felt offended just by the structure of how she said “Leaf Nin”, though he knew or could guess with certainty she didn’t mean to use the term of his village to deride him. Yet he was displeased at that moment, he had hoped for a solitary soul to find him and keep him company in the solitude outside, but her face was stern and slightly peeved it seemed. He didn’t want to have to deal with an angered norsewoman, that wasn’t quite on his list of to do for the day. Yet it seemed as if it did not quite matter what he wanted or did not want as she submerged herself in the distance where if he turned away it would be unable to feint that he didn’t see her. He could only at this singular moment hope for the best and carry on the conversation by answering her question. She asked if he was attending the exams, which though he knew was going to come at one point from someone somewhere was something that he did not in any way want to respond. What was he to say? He was a young capable looking shinobi who was older than most yet still unqualified by his village standards to join the chuunin exam? That he was a spectator banned from well spectating? There was no correct place in which he could put his right foot forward without it swiftly and firmly lodging itself into his mouth. He sincerely didn’t want to look like a loser or a fool.

He would simply need to bear with it he supposed. ”Ah, me? I’m afraid not. If I were, well I sure as hell would be asking to enter to stay in the warmth He supposed he would be semi candid and at the same time completely frank. It was all he really was thinking and what she needed to know at least at this barely acquaintance level that had just been obtained. Her next question seemed to be a taunt hidden under innocence, three left feet on the dance floor, it just put him off. She suggested from the no doubt physical observations that she took of his shivering that the cold was “no place for him”. Now this in its self was entirely and completely true in that he was from a village with a sunny climate and very normal weather with usually little to no slow year round. It seemed, however, to him or in a fleeting thought that she was challenging his pride as a man, calling him in a roundabout way a frail person to be affected by something so miniscule as an environmental temperature change. And he knew that it was just simply by instinct that he felt this, yet he could not shake it off with a simply though or two, he would have to passively expunge the feelings away from his thoughts over time. He could only possibly absolve his opinion of her by perhaps continuing the conversation with some input of his own, it would at least distract him from his sense of time.

He turned, to face her, to give her his full and undivided attention. His first sentence was a simple one ”And you? Are you a participant of the exams? He was not informed of how the system of kusagakure no sato worked but he figured it was like any other village and that she was no doubt in the same bucket as those ninja who were being tested as they spoke. But, it didn’t quite explain why she was out here. Was she just like him?

There would then be a few minutes of silence as she would but wait, wondering if he was going to bide his sweet time in replying just to piss her off, or if he was genuinely attempting to think of the words to respond to her without sounding like a complete and utter twat. No matter what he was doing, he was taking time- Her time. And who was he to take it and claim it as his own? What a dick. Despite this growing impatience she would stand her ground and await a response, her blue eyes looking at what she could make out as the strangest of browns laying within his eyes- Almost orange in colour. If he hadn’t then started to speak, responding to her questions, she would have probably turned and made her way out of the area to get something to eat. However, as his voice would ring through the area, she could but listen, and would smirk a little at the comment that he had made about the cold- So he wasn’t an idiot then? It was always a good thing, as Blanche enjoyed to be in good company. Those with low IQ, she wasn’t too fond of conversing with.

”I see- I’d seen a few contestants during my stay here.” she would tell him. The island was practically littered with them at this time due to the exams going on, and although she did tend to get along more with kids, a few of them were probably brats. People from all ages took the exams- Hell, Blanche herself was still a genin, so she couldn’t exactly speak- so it was pretty hard to tell who was part of them and who weren’t. The only obvious group of people were the samurai themselves who bore their usual garb of heavy metal armour. Everyone else was either a visitor, or a competitor. With the chance of him being a competitor out of the way, she would naturally assume that he was here to spectate, perhaps? She wasn’t here to see the exams though, so perhaps he was simply travelling as she was doing at the moment.

With her hand, covered by her black glove, rising up and flicking a sumptious amount of blonde hair from the side of her face, her mouth which had once turned in to a smirk now lay flat like it always was, the same unamused look upon her face. The two now stood quite close, and with her arms then crossing on the edge of her ample bust, she would fall silent again. Humans were probably the most interesting things on earth in her own opinion- Although each person had their own mind consciousness, you didn’t have control nor could you always tell what other people were thinking- But despite this, shinobi went forwards and found ways of overcoming this. The world had surely evolved over years and science came to explain numerous things but; It was always nice to be left guessing. Being a woman of medical science herself, the updates in medical technology always seemed to interest her, and surely in the future, she would hope to be part of a new revolution as far as it was concerned- And guys like this nin would be thankful for it!

”And you? Are you a participant of the exams?”

A question- Which was easily answered. Taking but one breath between when he finishes speaking and when she was to start, her response would be almost instantaneous. ”No., I’m not. I just enjoy visiting countries with different climates.” she’d tell him, her answer a bit hazy but nonetheless answering his question- Neither did she point out that she was a genin, nor a Chuunin, which would leave him guessing, but the second part was quite truthful- Since Kusagakure’s weather was quite.. plain to say the least, from what she could vividly remember of her youth, countries such as Tetsu had weather which was unseen of within her home country. Without a doubt, this was perhaps her second time of seeing snow in her life. A simple thing to some, it was interesting to others. ”I’m assuming that you’re either spectating or simply travelling across here- However, you belonging to Konohagakure- You might be delivering something to another village? Or perhaps taking part in a mission?” she’d ask, making a few comments.

From what she could remember back in Kusagakure- You couldn’t just leave the village just like that, or at least in her village you couldn’t. You had to either be part of a mission that took part outside of the country or village, or you had to be taking part in some special business to do with other villages or countries. Whichever his reason for walking about Tetsu, she didn’t care all that much. Perhaps Konoha allowed their nin to travel to Tetsu to cheer on their fellow shinobi?
..Maybe.

[FLASHBACK COMMENCING!]

Now, when exactly was this? Looking around, one would but see what would appear to be a hospital- By looking through one of the few clear windows in the place you could see large, overgrown plants about the place, and yet people walked around them as if they were something day-to-day- But in fact they were, for the scene had been switched to Kusagakure, many moons ago when the young woman that people know as Blanche was but fourteen years old. Huddled along with a few other medical students the young girl, slightly tall for her age, was looking over at one of the older shinobi who apparently were teaching them. Despite being the height any other fourteen year old girl was, her hair was incredibly long at this stage, and almost neared the back of her knees- Something that many other girls of her age in Kusagakure seemed to envy- Which she was quite glad of.

However, what were they all looking at? It was some kind of training dummy as far as the scene would show, as the teacher seemed to speak on about some kind of medical technique that the group were no doubt learning at the current time. Within the few moments the scene would clear, each word spoken quite vividly, and each person highlighted equally in the area, although Blanche herself seemed to be the centerpoint of the room- With beautiful hair in such a quality and quantity as hers, it was hard not to spot her in a crowd! However, right now, she seemed quite intent on learning more medical techniques, as the teacher would keep speaking, introducing his class to the first lesson on the morning.

”Good morning- Today, we’re going to learn a medical technique that’s used quite widely in this here hospital- The anaesthesia technique which does just what it says on the in- It allows you to numb the area to decrease pain whilst operating.”

So, this was a technique that just helped the patient in stopping the pain from overcoming them? It was a good idea really due to the fact that although she had never been on the operating table before, she could but imagine the amount of pain that they must be in whilst being operated on. This technique would really help as far as making them feel a bit more relaxed would go, and with this of course it would make further techniques easier to do since they obviously wouldn’t’ be getting all of the pain that it would usually give them. A few students sighed to themselves at learning hat this was the technique they would be learning, but young Blanche simply stood and watched keenly, looking forwards to trying the technique for herself.

The teacher, his hair grey with age, would move over to the training dummy that they had, which was responsive to chakra in the sense that it was created to mimic the effects of a body, she had trained n these before, and she would watch as the teacher would go forwards and begin to explain to the class exactly how the technique was made. Of course, with most medical techniques it required the person to disperse their chakra within their palms, and Blanche guessing this, she was soon found as correct as the male would start to speak to the class about the steps that needed to be taken so that they could perform the technique themselves without any problems occurring; ”You start by simply fuelling your chakra to your hands, like every other technique that I’ve taught you.” this said, the lesson would truly begin.

As the students then went around to their own training dummies around the class, each one (Including Blanche herself) would begin to send chakra to their hands as they would start to prep the technique. So, anaesthesia, a technique with both a hard name to spell, and an interesting way of using it. A few moments would pass and each student would keep funnelling chakra in to their hands, the people there ranging from the youngest, being 11, to the oldest around 35. People of all ages were around the class learning new things, and it was open to everyone- With the recent threats of war on the world itself Kusagakure wanted to prepare itself as far as medics went, and luckily or them as a whole, many medics signed up to the plan that the leader of the land had made in order to make it’s hospitals filled with specialized medical shinobi to heal any wounded which might have come its way.

Her hand, now filled with chakra, would almost quiver with the might that contained within it, the teacher would continue to speak. ”When your hand has the right amount of chakra in it, change the qualities of it- It needs to have a numbing effect. This is anaesthesia that we’re dealing with.” he would tell them as Blanche would nod, focusing on the chakra that she had in her hand as she then went on about changing the meaning of the chakra within it- What was she going to do with it? Alter it, that was right. As she held her hands in front of her, her concentration solely on her digits and the chakra that circulated around them, the look on her face would be quite clear to be full of concentration, as she adopted the annoyed look that she usually had but- It seemed more intense this time.

”Once you’re ready, please use the technique on the training dummy- I will asses the work done after you’ve finished.” the teacher would shout to the class as Blanche would nod her blonde head up and down once to symbolize that she had gotten the message well. Continuing to look at her hands, she would find this a little bit tricky- Of course it was only a C-Rank technique but she hadn’t exactly done anything like this before as far as anaesthesia went so it was quite a new experience for her to make her hands give out such an ability. ”…..” looking over to the dummy that was on her table, she would prepare herself to place her hands on it but first- She needed to make sure that the technique she had prepped was going well!

As chakra continued to flow rife in the very joints of her hands her hand would soon become accustomed to the light glow that they usually took over while using medical techniques. This one was similar to a few other techniques that she had learned before- It was a bright white colour, symbolizing purity and peace, which was sort of correct seeing as the technique did usually put the target at peace as far as not feeling pain was concerned- Of course they could always see the cuts that were being made in surgery though, so some might find that quite scary along with not being able to feel it but still- It was a good thing for her to learn this technique, because who knows, she might be using it in the future!

And now- With her hands slowly lowering to the dummy as the light continued to glow brightly within her hands, she’d look to the side at some of her fellow students, a few having done it correctly and the same light enveloping their hands were hers, whilst a few seemed to have having a few problems and had seemed to use the anesthesia technique on themselves somewhat, resulting in their hand going dead with no feeling. The teacher shook his head at these, and had told them to try again once the effects wore off. She however- Was adamant that she had done it correctly. Placing her hand down on the dummy, due to the qualities of the pseudo-human and the makings of the dummy itself, the chakra would become visible within it as she’d watch the chakra pour in to the arm.

Upon closer inspection, she’d notice that it was slowly but surely spreading elsewhere within the arm itself. It was quite hard to tell but it was doing this, but, her attention would soon be taken off the technique that she had done as chakra then disappeared from her hands, it now within the dummy, as the gray haired teacher would approach her, looking at the dummy that she had practiced on, and then nodding his head as if he agreed with what she had just done. ”An excellent example- If you’d see, the chakra will then begin to spread through the body, but it takes a while to do so- I’m sure that you could further this technique to allow it to be active for much longer time, however!” he would tell her with appraisal, as she would bit grin, glad that it had gone correctly.

However, despite the fact that she had indeed learned this technique correctly, her mind still craved more- She wanted to be able to perform this technique for quite some time without the effects running out- What was the use of anaesthesia if it only worked for a few seconds? She was meaning to at least learn it just a few times more to make sure that if she was to use this technique in the future then the technique itself wouldn’t be cut short in the middle of performing on a patient. So, as the teacher went on to help the others who didn’t seem to be grasping the technique as easily as she had been doing, she would soon find herself attempting to perform the technique again, in order to make sure that she had the technique nailed down, and to see if she could perform it quicker- With more strength, maybe.

So, with chakra beginning to compile within her hands as it had minutes ago, she would try her best to repeat the process. The anaesthesia technique truly was an interesting jutsu to learn, so by only learning it to last but a few seconds was a waste- It would be much better if she could keep it prolonged. But with this technique- Did it mean that she could perform it on herself too? Which meant that she could easily just numb the area where she was going to be dealt most pain, and help to keep herself active during fights that she might be part of? Maybe- She wasn’t too sure. But in some ways, feeling pain was a good reminder of what was going on with the body, so by diminishing it, she might be placing herself in more trouble than she had bargained for.

Keeping her hands fuelled with the chakra the young girl would wait and keep her focus on her hands which were held out in front of her, above the training dummy, the chakra that had once been in it now gone completely from the item as the technique wore off, which really did just show the bad point to it- Sure enough it was just a C-Ranked technique but it still wasn’t all that great without there being long lasting effects, right? Despite being a young girl she was very intent on being known as a genius universally as far as being a medical specialist went, so little things like this she needed to work on to assure that she knew the technique to the best of her ability. She might even be teaching this technique to someone in the future, so she needed to work on it now!

With the dummy still sitting lifelessly infront of her she would but wonder- Would it be better to train this technique on a living human to see the exact effects rather than on a training dummy? It would of course but she figured that it wouldn’t be right if they allowed people to be tested on, especially with medical techniques as perhaps they could go wrong, rendering them immobile or something like that. She highly doubted that a technique such as this anaesthetic one could do such an effect but surely if someone performed it wrong there was no saying that you couldn’t mess up the whole nerve systems in the body or anything like that.

So because of this, she needed to work her best to assure that nothing happened- Of course she was training on the dummy, but she’d need to treat it as if it was a real patient. Some of the people within this class bore no.. enthusiasm towards becoming medics. Since she was taught the basics of the technique she had been hooked to it, and from there on, a constant lurking spot of hers had been within this very hospital, looking at surgeries taking place and seeing doctors do their work, sometimes picking up a thing or two on the way. She having been placed on the shortlist for people who could learn from one of the most proficient doctors within the hospital at quiet times like was on at the moment, she was learning from the best, and she hoped that in due time, she would become the best. Determination flowed in her veins, and it was hard to break the girl down.

It wasn’t long until her hands once more began to glow with the white chakra that the technique was known around the place for, and she would grin a little bit, happy that she had managed to unlock the power once more. Her hands still held out infront of her she would watch as the white glow would dance around her fingers, coating her very palms in the same chakra which would aid in making the anaesthesia which the technique requested to be used. At the moment it was looking quite hopeful, so with the teacher still walking around, he would hopefully come over soon to give her a few more pointers, seeing as she was quite determined to learn this technique a good few times to assure it’s usefulness on the operating table.

Minutes passed as the glow grew brighter, she soon catching the attention of the teacher as he’d noticed that she had began starting to learn the technique again. ”So you’re learning how to do this again? It’s no problem; I’d slave away training this technique when I was your age, it’s good to expand the timeframe the technique lasts, so kudos to you for trying.” with a grin from Blanche herself at this praise she would nod her head and keep focusing on the technique that she was trying to perform. ”I want to try and perform it quicker but it’s not slow- it’s just.. taking it’s time I guess, I think I could be faster.” she would say, putting her input on the work that she was currently doing.

”You are correct there, lass. You could well indeed do it quicker- Hell, medics over here can perform it within a moment. But it all takes practice- It takes time to make a perfect medic, no-one learns things perfectly overnight. There is always room to improve things.” he’d tell her as she’d nod her head, the words going through her mind as the chakra from her hands would keep glowing brightly- It was almost time to put this technique to the test! Nodding her head again she would look from the grey haired medic back to her hands, and would then place them down on the dummy which was on the operating table, as her hands would slowly begin to transfer the anaesthesia-filled chakra in to the body.

Watching as the bright chakra would insert itself in to the body, numbing the area once more, she would try to imagine the effects that it would have on a normal body- Anesthestia of course was something that was used to numb the area to such an extent that it prevented much feeling of pain from coming from the area when incisions were made. Of course, the cuts would still be there, but the pain from them would be almost invisible to the patient. But there were different kinds- General anaestetic was to knock someone out completely, but this one was simply local from what she could tell- But what would happen if you used it on someone’s head? Would it knock them out? She had many questions to ask, but asking them right now would probably make her seem like a lunatic.

But it was a good question- She would wonder the possibilities that were available by using this technique- A lot, probably. Or were there more anaesthetic techniques out there to learn? ”Well done! That was another great example of the technique. The longer the user maintains contact with the patient, the more potent the anesthesia will be, and the larger the area of effect will be. It takes three turns of constant contact to cause complete numbness, and the user can spread the numbing effect at a rate of a six inches by six inches per turn.
