ALMOST THERE
For a half-hour there was no sign of Jiso once more, but time it was a good thing. Rasu was nearly at the finish line. A victory would even leave Rasu surprised, but he certainly was not against the possibility. While this may not have been the most significant mission of all time, Rasu certainly would not mind the bragging rights of beating one of the swiftest Genin in Iwagakure. The finish-line (two large towers) was nearly in view. His natural drive had kicked in; Rasu could feel muscles yearn for that victory and it pushed him forward even faster. He was in between the buildings, about to reach the end and-
Jiso made a last minute pass just before the finish and Rasu had lost.
Rasu slowed his momentum and had almost fallen over he was going so fast. He breathed deep and panicked, placing his hands against his knees. The words “Damnit” escaped his lips in a whisper. How was this guy so damn fast? Rasu was a lot more irritated than he would display. He stood up straight and nodded respectively; he had to remember that while his pride had been miffed, this was still a mission. The one known as Jiso was his client and he had to respect the child.
“I won, I won again! Yeah. No one can beat my speed!” Jiso beamed. He jumped up and down, patting himself on the back more than any normal individual should. As much as Jiso loved to run, it seemed he loved winning even more. And who doesn’t? Rasu certainly did, but this really was not his game. While Jiso was a lot faster than Rasu, there was a good chance Rasu could win against him at other things. The Shinobi had to keep that in mind; while he lost at some things, they were many things he was good at. These thoughts were what kept his pride intact and what allowed him to be face-to-face with Jisu in respect.
“Yeah…you beat me.” Rasu scratched the back of his head.
“And you even cheated!” Jiso pointed at Rasu accusingly.
“Least kept you on your toes” The Shinobi answered with a cocky wink. “Always expect the unexpected. Even if something you’ve done a hundred time.” These words seemed get through to the speed demon. It seemed Jiso had learned something from racing Rasu. He had lost, but seeing that Jiso get more out of the race than just a victory was a victory for Rasu. “Anyway, good job. I’ll collect my fee in the morning.” He smiled and waved the young man off, who waved back in dismissal and departed in his own direction.
With that Rasu went to collect his ground spikes…in defeat.
