So, can a Genjutsu Primary / Taijutsu Secondary learn the supplementary versions of Shunshin? They're unable to perform Shunpo, as its for Tai Primaries only, but can only learn Ninjutsu up to D rank, as Ninjutsu tertiaries. I ask because this would potentially disadvantage one specific group of characters.

I don't believe so, no. And that particular combination is strong enough as is, you have ways of disrupting people from afar (practically the best way to get around the inherent weakness of Taijutsu) and ways of holding your own up close. If you want an escape tool, I'd suggest going into assloads of Efficient Sealing or that Genjutsu fighting style.

Still, having to rely entirely on Genjutsu seems a little unfair given the amount (or lack thereof) of available Genjutsu and NRP's vast array of ways to combat Illusionist. Hachimontonkou, Kai, Bijuu, Pain, having another ninja touch you. The Gates and Bijuu render Genjutsu Specialist useless before the bouts even started.

My recommendation is to make Shunshin for Genjutsu/Ninjutsu Primary.

Or we could make Taijutsu and Genjutsu useful and add stuff for them. With only ONE viable thing in a style, and many ways of countering said style, they are severely underpowered.

Or we could just allow Shunshin/Shunpo for Gen prims/secs.

You mean very specific ways that either require a) a load of EXP into a given branch of techniques or b) one of the rarest things to acquire on the site outside of Kinjutsu? Sure, Kai counters Genjutsu, that's its entire purpose. You first have to realize you're in a Genjutsu and then use it, though. And if you use Genjutsu effectively they shouldn't have time to realize it before you stab them in the neck.

All of those, outside of being touched by somebody, are reliant on either large amounts of drain (in the case of Bijuu, Gates and Kai) or hurting the shit out of yourself to dispel something. Not to mention that Genjutsu is less reliant on creating distance than Ninjutsu is, but is far more adept at it. I say keep it the way it is and make people actually play to the strength of their builds.

Edit: Sorry, misunderstanding. I just woke up and forgot that this was about the supplementary techniques, not the shunshin itself. Since it's the latter, I think it's even less of a problem, honestly. The only really useful branch technique is the Afterimage one, and Genjutsu Primaries can do that 10x better anyway.

Be your argument, should we just not give them a shunshin/shunpo technique, since they don't need distance like Nin prim?

I was under the impression that shunshin was able to be used by ninjutsu AND genjutsu primaries because it requires the use of chakra in order to create the speed, and considering genjutsu primaries have a very extreme concentration over chakra they would be able to perform this simple feat just as easily as a ninjutsu primary would.

No, I think it's fine if they have a shunshin technique. But I don't think it's necessary for them to be able to get the branch techniques.

I don't quite understand why they shouldn't have it? Like... what's your basis behind them only being able to perform Shunshin in one direction and not "backward", "to the side", "curved", or even leaving an "After Image". It just doesn't make sense to me for them to have access to the basic movement and none of it's extensions.

You're misunderstanding, I'm not against them having it, or obtaining it. If a Genjutsu user wanted to use an inferior way of escaping, then it'd be great for them to have the power to do so. Bring it up in staff or talk to Fina about it and see if he wants to meddle with the ranks or add a completely new rule pertaining to it.

All my posts were doing was informing people that there are better options for Genjutsu/Taijutsu combination users so that, until it is changed, people can still get some use out of their shunshin. Until such a time, I'd advise investing in the Genjutsu fighting style or Efficient Sealing, since even with the possible addition of those branch techniques, those will serve the shunshin purpose far better.
