Entry # 1: Taking Flight

Konohagakure no Sato…

A home of homes, and expanse equipped to cultivate its people, and relish the lives who inhabited such a wealthy locality. A day as clear as ever, peace seemingly befell the village, opposing the violence that rattled in the exterior. A world engulfed by hatred and war, yet a paradise amongst death, the Hidden Leaf supported a healthy, and committed array of citizens and Shinobi alike. A story would be told today, though not one bred or started—more so the continuation of a companionship. A tale of two Genin of the Hidden Leaf rose from different backgrounds, yet finding the silver lining in the form of a friendship.

Deep within the trenches of the Konohagakure forest, just south of the famed Uchiha Compound, a young man stood. Hair a deep red, falling from his head and down to his mid back, fastened in a ponytail. Garbed in short-sleeved, blue kosode that hugged his body loosely, expressing white Sashinuki Hakama to conceal his lower confines. Eyes, a tempting purple that only complimenting the youth and charisma of his appealing face, Ryūsuke stood in the open.

“Where is she?” He murmured beneath his breath. Today was the day were the young Uchiha would finally be reunited with his childhood friend and Genin partner, Natsuki Kiniro. Slightly older then he was, she still retained the conduct of a child, and while he was progressively mature for his own age, the crimson-haired Shinobi could only smile contently in her presence.

Light seeped through the cracks and breaks of the leaves above as rays of translucent gold touched across the Uchiha’s face. Eyes squinting only to readjust, Ryūsuke peered into the heavens, eluding the branches and twigs to see higher than he ever could, allegorically. It would be good seeing her again; she always had the best jokes and held such a jovial character that being dismal in her presence was virtually impossible. It also didn’t help that the two would be partaking in training today. As a dual cell, they would have to learn how to use their techniques in unison and devise plans to help assure safety on the battlefield.

The area around the restaurant was quiet and the only sound that could be heard was the dulled clanging of wooden chosticks as they frantically cleared plate after plate of food. Some stood in horror, others looked on in amazement but the same thought was running through everyone’s mind. Why was this lithe girl able to eat so much? It was beyond human and the cooks were struggling to keep pace but were hardly bothered as she was a regular here and they seemed to love the challenge.

Fifteen minutes would pass before Kiniro would put down her 13 bowl of egg sauce over rice with a side of miso soup. Even though it was a breakfast meal Kiniro indulged it at any time during the day and never felt quite right without having tasted its distinctive flavor. Putting her two chopsticks together she clapped her hands firmly against eachother and burped,

“Thank you for the food.” She promptly stood up and heard the shop owner yell,

“Come back again Kiniro-chan!” She waved at him and smiled as she skipped out the shop, lightheartedly as if she hadn’t just ingested massive amounts of rice and egg. She smiled at a few people as she looked around, already knowing she was late for her meet with Ryusuke, but she couldn’t do anything on an empty stomach and he knew that. He was probably waiting patiently at their designated spot. After the brief self assurance that her delay was justified she made a beeline for the large gates of the village and leapt into a slow jog as she passed beneath it’s arching mouth, taking one last look at the looming mountain of legendary ninja leaders before heading out. It was as much a ritual as eating and no matter how badly she felt about her life before in this village she had a deep respect for those who laid their lives to protect it. Even the little street kid was a part of this village.

Leaping up into some nearby branches she headed for the rendezvous point with a little more haste as she felt the dry hard wood on her hands as she swung from branch to branch before eventually spotting the dark red tincture of Ryusuke’s head. When she was still about a hundred yards away she increased her speed, adjusting herself so she was directly in line with him as leapt into the air in front of him,

“RYUSUKE!!!” She yelled at the top of her voice with much less affection than was intended. She was headed straight for him and would probably knock him over if he didn’t evade her overzealous greeting. It was good to see him again.

Entry # 1: Taking Flight

Standing in the paddock deeply tucked away in the comforts of the forest, the Uchiha was loss in thought. His mind pondering on numerous circumstances, situations, and forthcoming endeavors that would truly not test not only his skill, but those who he entrusted his skill and life with. Kiniro amongst others were all protected beneath his observant eye, but akin to a beautiful construction that lacked a strong foundation, Ryūsuke would disintegrate if he didn’t purify his techniques and arsenal. The life of a Shinobi was rough, and enduring. Nonetheless, with the proper training, preparation, and lastly, commitment, one could achieve greatest.

Pacing in a rather relaxed, calm motion, the sounds of the trees above whimpering escaped the crimson-haired boy, and before he knew it, a loud exclamation of his name echoed viciously. Turning around quickly, only streaks of vivacious purple as he was forced to the ground, followed by a weak stagger and roll. Kiniro had arrived, but in a rather odd, obnoxious manner, quite complimentary to her character as the Uchiha rested on the ground and soon took his attention from the emerald blades and peering towards the women who stood in front of you. The hyper native of the Hidden Leaf, and more importantly, one of his closest friends and partner.

“You’re late, Kiniro-chan.” He exclaimed, taking to his feet, and with an eloquent caress of his hands, whipped away the grim and debris from his legs. Sighing contently, a smile soon warmed the Uchiha’s face as he directed his attention towards the Genin in front of him.

Diverting his attention towards the background beside the purple-haired crazy, Ryūsuke looked on to see if anyone treaded along. No one was to know of their exclusive and clandestine training. Tactics and hypotheses would be tested on such a day, and such crucial information was only beneficial to the two. “We were suppose to begin our training an hour ago.” The crimson-haired said with a rather relaxed tone, his tranquil violet eyes peering deep into the golden moons that resided on Kiniro’s face. Strong, trustworthy, and untroubled she was. Nonetheless, he couldn’t get enough of her company.

“Late?” She looked around, “Looks like you haven’t started yet. How could I be late. Besides you know I can’t do anything if my mind is filled with thoughts of food. Actually it’s always like that, but you know what I mean.” She said matter-of-factly as she watched him rise from his semi-recumbent posture. She put her hands on her hips as his gaze fell to the area behind her. They were supposed to work on some basic tactics today and Ryūsuke seemed a little intent on letting her know that she was late. She simply shrugged, knowing that she had chosen to delay her arrival and she wasn’t completely sure what he wanted her to do about it so she simply muttered a silent apology as she turned to look around.


They were deep within the forest and were unlikely to encounter anyone here, a factor that Ryūsuke had no doubt taken into consideration when taking this location into consideration.

“So, what are we going to do today. I was quite excited to come today but this is hardly the kind of activity I imagined doing after all this time. You should have seriously considered joining me for lunch. It was delicious.” She said making yummy noises and gently rubbing her stomach. Personally she hadn’t done much training herself in the last few months and had tried her best to avoid missions of any kind while she literally ate and slept everyday. This would be a refreshing change of locale and scenery, hopefully it wouldn’t be too strenuous as she was already considering how much time it was till supper.

Entry # 0: Taking Flight

“Well…” He twiddled his fingers, averting his attention from the caramel skinned woman, soon peering towards the floor as if nervous to explain his validation. Though Kiniro didn’t see the purpose yet, there was an objective and reason for their training today. Something had been cutting away at the Uchiha’s persistence and consciousness for some time; the only conclusion would be to tackle the problem while they could. His partner in crime Kiniro would aid greatly in this predicament. Nonetheless, Ryūsuke first had to develop the courage to tell her exactly what was on his mind. Hopefully, she wouldn’t be mad at him.

“Well… I sorta want to embark on a B-Ranked mission. I’ll need your help… But we need to develop more structured tactics..” He exclaimed softly, only allowing his voice to project enough for the golden-eyed Kunoichi to realize what exactly he said.

Lifting his head and soon smiling apprehensively, Ryūsuke would wait tolerantly for a response. His exclamation should have been enough explanation for her to understand what he meant, and should have explained scrupulously what they were going to do today. It was simple really: Develop tactics and combination strategies based around their weaponry to ultimately exploit in real life scenarios on the battlefield. This way, if achieved, they would have something no other Genin team without a sensei possessed; structure.

Taking one step, which was followed by another, eventually starting a chain which allowed the Uchiha to motion forward. The anxiety leaving his body as he moved, and his confidence returning, the once monotonous smile that occupied his face quickly shifting to something more pleasant as he stopped alongside her. Spinning on his hill, and facing the direction that Kiniro peered off into, Ryūsuke had one more surprise that would seemingly spark aspiration in his carefree partner. After all, if this didn’t. Nothing would.

“If you cooperate. I’ll treat us to whatever you want for dinner.” He smiled captivatingly.

“B rank? Hold on a second there. Aren’t B ranked missions a little difficult for Genin? We could be killed before the mission even begins.” She commented casually. She wasn’t adept at the tactical use of her own opinions and most people viewed it as a bad thing but she was a realist and the fact of the matter was that B ranked missions were B ranked for a reason. Even with the two of them, their odds against anyone they met on such missions would be dire at the most. And Ryūsuke wanted her help. This made her smile a bit inside. Guess that wasn’t a surprise but it still didn’t make her feel any better about what he was saying.

“Besides, aren’t tactics and stuff made by a squad leader or a higher ranked ninja? Wait, you’ve got some strategies in mind don’t you? You’re gonna get us killed.” She added at the end with a cheeky glare. She didn’t feel she was being overly negative but there was little motivation for her to go out on such a s=risky mission with another genin. Well, he wasn’t another genin, it was Ryūsuke, but the danger was the same. She was a little interested in what he had planned. He wouldn’t have called her out here if he wasn’t fairly confident in his own abilities and hers for that matter. Still.

She sighed and used her left hand to scratch the back of her head lazily as she considered other options but one thing caught her attention.

“Anything?” She narrowed her eyes trying to see if he was bluffing, “Are you sure about that? Too late you can’t take it back.” The promise of reward for messing around with Ryūsuke today would be greater than she had imagined and all thoughts of B ranked missions and difficult opponents floated out of her mind as she planned out her dinner spread.

She inquired about the mission being too difficult. Upon normal circumstances, that was most certainly true. Nonetheless, as if now, the two could get it accomplished with effort and dedication. More so an optimist, who believed in heart over logic, Ryūsuke was prone to inducing rather extreme and seemingly implausible odds. Nonetheless, like gambling, if they didn’t aim big, could they truly expect a comparative reward in the end? A Shinobi’s life was filled with danger from the moment they accepted the Hitae-ate, and engraved their names intot he canvas of many before them in the name of defending one’s village. He was an Uchiha; this was most likely his aristocratic blood talking. Nonetheless, he was also a believer.


“But I think we can really take this. Plus I may have a Jōnin instructor to aid us in the mission.” He had said too much, and was waiting too much time conversing when the day was only growing younger with each passing moment. The main objective today was finding combination strikes that would minimize usage of individual chakra reserves while still obtaining efficient results. While this normally came in the form of one acting on impulse, and the other following suit; if one could knowingly involve rational thinking, keen strategizing never hurt.

Nodding his head as she nodded eagerly towards the reward she would receive in the end, Ryūsuke smiled as he realized what was next. That was instituting a reproduction of real life circumstances that would ultimately place Kiniro as the depositor. Turning to face an opening, approximately only covered in small patches of grass while majority open dirt for the flooring, the Uchiha smiled. Dragging his arms up, and lifting them to his chest, the crimson-haired Shinobi weaved a series of kata; hand seals formulating with perfect execution as the Ninjutsu practitioner began the preparations for a technique. With his purple-haired friend behind him, the Uchiha could deploy the technique without apprehension.

“Kasumi Enbo no jutsu!” He exclaimed.

Dragging his arms back, inhaling deeply, the Shinobi soon expelled a large sum of liquid mist over the aperture. Sides of trees, the deficient grass, as well as the gravel were all covered in this wreckful substance. Holding an oily air, the Uchiha utilized his Mist waltz technique, which developed combustible mist that would ignite into a series of strong flames if made contact with a reactant. “Kiniro-chan. I want you to use one of your Raiton techniques to generate enough friction to light the oils, okay?” he inquired confidentially, knowing well that his partner could get the job done. Taking a step back, Ryūsuke waited.

She grumbled, not totally satisfied with the mission parameters but knew she’d already committed herself to the cause already. Even though they were close she and Ryūsuke had almost opposite views on things like this. Where he would have a fierce determination to prove the odds wrong she would be taking bets on how badly they’d fail. It was an awkward relationship but one that worked. It would be better with the jonin instructor though he or she would be able to bail them out if things got too sour. Or so she hoped.

Dragging her mind back from its moment of daydreaming she followed a little behind Ryūsuke as he led her to a small opening. He didn’t waste any time as he quickly and methodically performed his hand seals. She’d always been envious of this but her mind was slapped back to reality once more as he chanted his jutsu. It filled his target area with a thick coat of oil. She gulped for a moment before hesitantly turning to Ryūsuke,

“You, should warn me before doing something like that. Not that this is especially dangerous or anything. No ever died from accidentally lighting one of these. What if I’d panicked and unleashed something?” She was somewhat reluctant to move forward and complete the move as he’d requested. She’d done something similar before but this was different. It was like playing with matches. For some reason though, that analogy stirred a childish misdemeanor within her as she considered how much fun it would be to light this place up, let alone perform something like this in combat. And she had a marvelous scheme for this particular moment. She grinned widely as she looked at Ryūsuke. “Time to get involved then isn’t it.” She said mysteriously before making her own hand seals in a slower more deliberate manner than Ryūsuke.

Denkou Bunshin no Jutsu.” She said calmly and an electric copy of herself materialized beside her, “The more the merrier?” The clone quickly ran backwards and away from the area of effect before running forward at full speed and leaping into the air a gleeful smile on its face before landing smack in the middle of Ryūsuke’s technique. For a moment nothing happened and then a sharp cracking sound filled the air before setting all the flammable liquid alight. Kiniro shielded her eyes from the sudden blast, quite satisfied with her contribution.

Entry # 0: Taking Flight

Ryūsuke neglected to find concern in his transgression for the moment as he looked towards the broader picture; surviving in intense, high impact battle against an opposition trying to kill them. Feed one, allow others to die; or simply divide the portion and feed many. A small equivalence to recapitulate his intentions. Essentially, the Genin was trying to implicate tactics that covered large areas and forced others into the opening. If such a plan was conceivable, that would give them such an advantage in battle, and even balance the field against stronger, more seasoned opponents. Perfecting such an art was the task now.

Noticing Kiniro’s demeanor shifting, and her mind now steadily moving towards his intentions, Ryūsuke smiled captivatingly. He had known the girl for years, and her ubiquitous mindset that focused in on rationality always escaped him. Nevertheless, he was one of the few who could change her mind. Their relationship was rather odd, but it worked well, and blending their two distinct personalities form a single cell unit for more efficiency. She motioned somewhat forward, taking the limelight and soon agreed to join in the festivities which needless to say, warmed the Uchiha’s heart as he nodded in conformity. “Yeah, let’s get started.” He sounded, waiting to see what she had in mind.

Stepping back, allowing the Kunoichi the incentive, the Uchiha looked on with widened eyes as the clone instantly found shape and form in the reality. Such eloquence had divided and found equivalent beauty before the genin who smiled at the sight of two. Though his content was short-lived and soon transitioned into excitement when the clone took off, and dived forward. Splashing into the moist area, nothing happened immediately, nonetheless, after a moment the area lit up in a burning inferno, and soon the Uchiha found himself covering his eyes as the searing heat rushed across the area.

“Now, capitalize.” He sounded, soon vanishing into a veil of nothingness; executing a well-exercised Shunshin no jutsu, instantaneously emerging above the blazing contrivance, perched high within a tree, safe from the flames touch as he quickly drew his hook blades. Though he didn’t dive in, he successfully simulated the end result of their tactic, which would consist of the two above or around the fire, awaiting for their opponent to exit with their weapons drawn.

It was a fearsome display of fire and Kiniro backed away several steps from the heat. She heard him say something and then disappear but wasn’t sure what as she returned her attention to the blazing inferno. Being caught in the middle of such a maneuver was almost fatal and while she had a lot of fun controlling her clone she wondered how she would implement it in the field. This wasn’t the kind of high pressure situation that they would encounter and there was seldom any training that could fully prepare anyone for what lay ahead.

She waited a few more moments before leaping up into a nearby branch and scouting around for Ryūsuke. Where had he disappeared to so suddenly. She moved along the edge of the blazing area, jumping from branch to branch as she scanned the field below and the trees on the opposite side. That was when she saw him high up in a tree on the opposite side of the small clearing. There was no way she could shout and be heard from this distance and she watched as he drew his hooked blades. What was he doing now, she wondered before dropping to a lower branch and then to the forest floor. As soon as she touched it she broke into a sprint, veering dangerously close to the edge of the fire as she circled around the clearing and stopped under Ryūsuke’s tree. Taking a moment to catch her breath she used her shunpo to quickly scale the lower branches until she was a few feet below Ryūsuke.

“What are you doing?” she shouted above the sound of the fire. Aside from the fact that they had collaborated in that last move there really was no need for him to draw his edged weapons, unless there was an enemy nearby which made Kiniro put a hand on her own chokuto that was strapped across her back. She waited for a few moments, looking around suspiciously and ready to react to any impending threats.

Entry # 0: Taking Flight

Peering down into the blazing chasm below, only one thought ran through the Uchiha’s mind; how could this be implemented into real life situations? Though this could easily be coiled and amended to meet any circumstance fitting the environment. Nonetheless, would either of them have the psychological stability or validation to execute such a plan? A Shinobi’s life was flooded with three things: Blood, loss, and premeditation. Keen assassins knew their victim’s life style, the areas he ventured into both generally and intermittently, and lastly, knew both strengths and weaknesses. A keen Shinobi knew his surroundings, as well as his arsenal to both perform effectively in battle, and live to see another day.

As Kiniro quickly sprinted below, cautious not to touch the flames, and finally flash stepping into the tree alongside him, the Uchiha’s eyes burned a incensed red; a singular black tomoe embellishing the exterior of the pupils. Having activated his Sharingan a moment ago, the Uchiha was loss in thought, seemingly distracted by a mental prison that seemingly captured all intention and principle through reality meandering methods. After a moment of two, Ryūsuke’s head tilted, and slowly turned to face his friend; the Dōjutsu still active as he smiled charmingly, and placed his bladed weapons away.

“This was part of the first tactic. Close in on the infected area, covering different angles to better assess the exterior. That way we can effectively combat those exiting, or know if the opening was trapped inside. “

He exclaimed tranquilly, transitioning from looking directly into the tempting eyes of his friend, and peering directly towards the ground once more before sitting on the branch, swaying his legs before taking his attention from the fire below, to the lit sky above. “Kiniro-chan. Mind showing me another one of your Raiton?” He inquired, still gawking into the heavens while his Sharingan captured all in sight. They were alone, which was excellent. Nonetheless, energy reserves were still high. Training would continue then a dinner to follow. Nonetheless, something intrigued the Uchiha; what else did his partner know?

So he was just playing a part in the training? She relaxed the hand that had previously gripped her chokuto and let herself lean against the tree’s wide trunk as she looked back down to the flames. She’d never gotten used to seeing a sharingan, it made her feel uncomfortable for some reason, like it was peering at her deepest darkest secrets with ease.

She could never look at Ryūsuke straight in the eye for long periods when he had that dojutsu activated, a fact that she found even more repulsive. He was an ally and his clan was from her village but it just seemed weird for some reason. She wasn’t sure whether it was the color of technique but ever since she had first seen it on him she felt kind of empty. She had known that it was his clan’s bloodline limit but it made her feel like there was a side of him she didn’t know and could never understand. In a way she envied his sharingan and the ease it made for learning new things and ideas. Maybe that was the real reason behind her resentment of it but whatever it was it made her damn uncomfortable so when Ryūsuke asked to see one of her raiton jutsu’s she aggressively and excitedly obliged, leaping several branches higher than him as she extended a hand,

“Now watch carefully, I’m not gonna do this twice. Matoudai Zeusu!” A long and narrow bolt of white lightning materialized in the palm of her right hand and she smiled briefly as she weighed it up before looking into the distance and hurling the javelin like object to the centre of the fire they had created. Unlike her clone, this jutsu had an immediate effect, making a high vertical cylindrical column about 10 meters in diameter that was constantly being shocked as the center were a lightning storm. “How’s that for shock value?”

Entry # 0: Taking Flight

She averted her eyes, and Ryūsuke instantly knew why. Sighing, the Genin deactivated his Sharingan, remembering the uneasiness such a Dōjutsu caused his friend to endure. So caught up in his training, the security and aspects of Kiniro were tossed out the window, and for that, the Uchiha felt tremendously bad. Wanting to make an apology, he knew the Kunochi wouldn’t accept it, regarding the event null and void as it wasn’t anyone’s direct fault. Ryūsuke however didn’t want to place someone he cared into a quandary like that ever again, only if he could control it. The Sharingan was a gift and a curse, one of the negatives surfacing the moment Kiniro directed her attention elsewhere.

His eyes now a stunning purple once more, the boy smiled the moment his partner smiled. She was ready to continue, and with that, he was nothing more than a spectator to events to come. Sitting back quietly in the tree, his legs dangling off the limb, sudden warmth occupied his bottom as the flames comforted the chill of the breeze. What technique she was going to use was a inscrutability. Nonetheless, implicating the Jutsu would be essential, and a rather adjustable technique in his own arsenal would make it possible as he awaited.

Formulating in her palm after reciting the name of the technique, a white, thin strips of electricity manifested and Ryūsuke’s eyes shimmered greatly. Such a stunning display that soon grew in shape, Kiniro stood up, and while aiming for the central region of the flame bitten ground, she launched her technique, subsequently forming, a grand cylinder of spiraling electricity. A beautiful technique with a rather destructive aftermath to follow. He rubbed the base of his chin. “Kiniro-chan. When I summon my clan, and dispatch it. Fire that technique at it, okay?” He asked calmly, with a courteous tone followed by a stand, the Uchiha now stood upright.

Bringing his hands together, and furthermore, running through the incantation. “Katon: Bunshin no jutsu!” he exclaimed, finishing the kata string and soon forming above the tree, in a more elevated branch, a clone of himself generated from a thick cloud of smoke. With the cocking of the right arm, soon followed by a thrust, Ryūsuke signaled for his clone to venture off, and soon without hesitation, it jumped towards the center. This was Kiniro’s chance, and chance to execute the plan the Uchiha had in mind as he looked on with thorough eyes.

It was an awkwardly tense moment as she hurled her jutsu at the fire. She noticed that the distinctive red of the sharingan had disappeared from his eye. She didn’t say anything though and just continued on as though nothing happened, the same unhealthy pattern she’d been practicing as long as she could remember. It wasn’t something she would ever admit but it put her at ease and the smile she had a moment ago widened unconsciously. Even though Ryūsuke hadn’t noticed it, when she threw her Matoudai Zeusu it hadn’t even connected at full power and she had fumbled a lot of the kata. This time though she would not fail and easily and gracefully performed her hand signs before bellowing,

“Raiton: Matoudai Zeusu!” At the same time Ryūsuke’s clone was descending downwards into the clearing and her eyes followed it and then she flung her arm forward and let the length of light fly through the air. Its path was flatter than before and thrown with much more power than its predecessor as it landed just a moment before the clone and spread its shocking circular mass around it, jolting the clone from every direction as it towered towards the sky in a regal yet lethal manner.

A slight breeze was blown their way from the explosion and Kiniro relished it, feeling that nature was reeling back at her power. She turned to Ryūsuke and gave a firm thumbs up and a toothy grin to match it. He was one of the few people she would share her training and combat endeavors with and as a result he knew a lot of her jutsu and how proud she was to have them given her humble beginnings. All this shouting and kata had really worked up her adrenaline and she was anxious to know what Ryūsuke had planned next. Hopefully something more exciting than what they’d already done as she liked to keep herself guessing and alert. A property she had translated into a daily routine to match the uncertainty of real combat.

"Shit! I'm late!" He screamed, his voice could be heard blocks away. Running through the peaceful streets of Konohagakure no Sato, inhaling the calm air into his body - he began to sprint towards the forest; where the training most likely already began. Sprinting past the gates, he didn't even have time to say hi to anyone familiar he saw on the way. Boy, were they going to be mad at him - he was at least an hour late. That's what happens when you go out the night before with some friends, and don't get home till four in the morning.

Thirty meters away, he noticed smoke coming from the area. "What the hell happened?" Pushing himself to go faster, he arrived there to see a big fire in the middle of the forest. Sky blue optics scanned the area and caught onto Ryusuke getting hit by lightning. After more observing, the Ryusuke that was nailed by a jolt of lightning was a clone, and the real one was standing just a few meters away.

"Yo~" His voice smooth as can be, standing still with his hands in his pockets, breathing irregularly because of the run, he stared at both of them. Boy was he going to get screamed at.
