Mission info: There have been a few fights procuring from the bars in Iwa, mainly because there is nothing else for the drunkards to do than to bash each others heads in. The owner of the bar has requested that some shinobi come in order to keep the chaos down to a minimum.

My hand crept past the tsuchikage doors, clearing my exit in a nonchalant manner hoping to tackle all these missions at once. Looks like today I’ll be getting in a bar fight. . I’d say to myself as my eyes began searching in query for the location.

Eyes of ocean-water blue scanned the mission swiftly over and over making sure of all of its content, although it was a D ranked mission I had to make sure of my exact objective. Some people liked you to cut corners in order to make us shinobi do more tasks – but I wasn’t a work mule and neither would my partner be. In the past I hadn’t had too much luck with bartenders though. In fact the last bar that I’d attended I was called a fucker straight to my face, oh well – hopefully this place wasn’t as shallow in thought as they were.

Upon a sign atop of a bar/restaurant my eyes would stop, scanning its entirety. Its name, ‘The Bazaar’ , a rather idiotic name if you ask me. Anyone who names his bar after the synonym of crazy deserves for the freaks to destroy his bar, tch. ‘I should probably get someone to help me on this mission first. .’ I’d say pivoting my back foot in hopes that one would just magically show up. Although I knew that wasn’t going to be the case I somewhat hoped for it.

Try as he might there was no just no words to come from his mouth to draw the attention of the Snow Village Shinobi. 'Hey' or 'Yo' or even a slightly more rude 'You There...' would have worked but when he opened his mouth... he got nothing. It was like his subconscious negativity was over powering his desire to make his presence known. The loudest thing he could manage was a sigh as he tailed the man with blue hair from the Tsuchikage's Tower to the smelly bar named 'the Bazaar'. His first thought was how much that name sucked, he'd never even heard of this bar which lead him to believe it must it have been sort of new. 'Rock's Off' and 'The Rubble Room' those were bars. They had the strongest drinks, the smokiest air and the names were at least a little clever.

He approached the Chuunin ahead of him casually with no attempt to hide his presence. It was best they at least know one another's faces before they went into this place. The bar regulars could be real nasty at the right hour and even though it was still early as hell, 05:00 hours, the morning drunks could put up a fight too seeing as how they were loose from alcohol and full of energy from recently waking up. One thing about the drinkers in Iwa, they had no loyalties to an establishment so while there were on occasion new bars, the bars were always filled with the same people.

As he closed in he saw the Chuunin spinning on his back foot to turn around, most likely to find whatever Iwa headband close enough to assist him. Even if Sen hadn't already been following him, he wouldn't have to had to go too far to find someone willing to help bust up the bar bullies. Fortunately for him, he didn't even have to finish turning around. A simple "Yo." boomed from his box carrying his baritone voice over the small distance between them.

It was the laziest greeting he'd ever given, despite the fact that he'd just given the Kage's assistant a damned head nod for a greeting and despite the fact that he always greeted other with a 'Yo'. It probably just felt lazy to him because deep down he was genuinely interesting in working with someone for a change. It didn't matter that he guy was higher ranked and thus probably more experienced and it damn sure didn't matter that he wasn't from Iwagakure. One of his first missions as a genin involved offering the olive branch to Sunagakure in person on behalf of Iwa, so he knew what it took to build allies and how it felt to be a ninja in a foreign village. He hoped his 'Yo.' was enough to let the Chuunin know that he was his new partner for the day, maybe even the whole while the guy was in Iwa, if it wasn't then the spartan kick he delivered to the bar door to fling it open would be.

He strolled in, hands in his pockets, sure the Kusagakure Chuunin was right behind him. He scanned the crowd cautiously looking for guys with flared nostrils and ripped clothes or alcohol stains, anything that conveyed they were fighting earlier. But with no clues to go off of he had to speak out loud, they knew what he was here for, this thing happened practically five times a week. "We don't have all day... who ever it was doing all the fighting step outside, now."

This mission would be somewhat of a test-run of my abilities as a voice of authority for Anemone. My sky-high blue hair dropped over my eyes a bit as I’d begun to pivot. My attire so far were the normal gear for a chuunin – black cloth pants and a black t-shirt covered up by my weapons.

To my surprise, as I’d turned only 180 degrees to my left, the words of a stranger would have already been sent through the air. He looked messy, like a kid who sat at the back of the classroom shooting gum on the ceiling, but there was an estrange presence to him that I couldn’t quite pinpoint. I shivered a bit – but not because I was disgusted by the rotten smell permeating the entrance of the bar, no, but because he’d scared the living shit out of me. A vein would bulge out of the right corner of my forehead as I became slightly aggravated.

“Holy shit! You can’t sneak up on me like that man. .”

I’d say whilst putting my right arm up as my left covered my chest to exaggerate the look of being scared. If I was any place other than Iwa no Sato I might have tried to kill him. Before retorting to the ‘yo’ he’d blatantly directed to me I’d regain my breathe, straightening my chuunin vest upon my black short-sleeved shirt before nodding. ‘Phew…okay’

“Hyoka’s is my name. But you can call me bro if you’d like. I guess we should go and finish these missions I have – I’m sure you could use the money right?”

My words failed to ever spark any interest of my own personality, or so I thought – I rather liked the feeling of not knowing who I was working with because it made the mission an easier objective. After giving my introduction and listening to his I would simply gesture my head to the side – pointing to the entrance of the bar in hopes that he would follow me in. If anything we would just be standing guard at the door until anything started.

Hopefully this wasn’t going to be as boring as I was expecting.

With no one responding to his idle threat of an ass kicking he the genin simply sighed even deeper. The red collared jacket he wore accentuated his shoulders as they slumped with the sigh. Black boots and black and red pants conveyed a well coordinated color scheme. His own black hair and red eyes were in contrast to the blue hair of his Snow Village counter part. Dirty clothes or not, he was still pretty well dressed.

Behind him the Chuunin identified himself as Hyoka and offered a nickname or maybe a title as an alternative, but Hyoka was fine. It was short and easy to remember since it wasn't composed of a bunch of the same sounds. Sen had once knew a guy named Momoso Mososomo, he was killed during a raid when a comrade wasn't able to yell out his complicated name fast enough to warm him someone was rushing at him with a blade. True Story. The proper thing to do would have been for Sen for give his name as well, but it was too soon for that, a name was just a name in and of itself. For them to be partners even on the little D-ranks, they had to form a bit of trust and knowing someone's name just lead to false pretenses.

In example, he didn't know a thing about Hyoka, but he liked the name which lead to him having a tiny amount of acceptance for the man behind the name, despite the man doing nothing to earn that acceptance. For them to be real partners and form a real dynamic Sen would introduce himself with his actions. A name would come later, when it was more relevant to introduce himself formally.

"It's... uh... " he wanted to say 'nice to meet you' but the truth was it wasn't nice, not yet anyway. It was very much annoying to meet Hyoka, seeing as how the guy snatched his D-rank missions a moment ago. But that wasn't Hyoka's fault and Sen wasn't a total dick so instead of saying 'it's annoying as shit to meet you' he instead took notice of the two burly men who started tackling each other into tables and other customers and at that point he just went with something else entirely. "Welcome to Iwa..." He raced into the bar with little regard for Hyoka's reply hoping the guy would just join in with retraining the other fighter.

Maybe I was really, too drunk for this – symbolically anyway. It wasn’t like me to freeze up like this – especially in a fight, but the way it all happened startled me into halting my actions. The sound of smashing glass and broken tables wasn’t disturbing, by any means, and my newfound nameless partner seemed to enjoy it more than the people who had begun to engage in the fight. I wanted to see what he was capable of as a genin, but I found myself creating hand seals nonetheless although my thoughts contradicted my actions.

“Seems as if we have a problem here boys! Let’s dish in some punishment!”

My voice echoed through the small ‘bazaar’ as electricity shot out from the bowels of my gut at a speed of six meters per second. Given that the two fighters hadn’t even seen me, let alone my friend, they wouldn’t see it coming. A pulse of electricity would radiate through the spine of one of the men as my partner took care of the rest – I couldn’t help but smile at his brute way of entering a battle. I found myself enjoying the nature of a good dogfight as well when the time called for it.

“I’ll let you take it from here. .”

I’d say – realigning my thoughts with my motive. If this genin was going to go on any more missions with me I was going to need to make sure he was doing things right after all.

presented a new challenge. As he raced into the core of the bar at a man easily twice his size Sen could let his mind float away on the challenges of today as his body went into auto pilot. He did a light leap throwing himself across a long bar table feet first into his designated target. His peripheral vision exposed a lightning based jutsu darting past him and into the man he'd left his Kusa partner to take care of. It was an interesting tidbit to learn so soon that his partner from the Village of Snow could use Raiton jutsu his own mind began to wonder what other type he could use and if he could use those in conjunction with one another.

His feet slammed into the bigger man with an audible 'THUD' and much to the genin's surprise the man didn't go down instantly. Landing on his feet and getting a closer look he was able to remember his face and the name came soon after. His name was Rano, he didn't know enough of him to ever get a last name and he'd never had to fight him before but he saw him around enough during the other times when he had to stop drunk jackasses from destroying bars. He would have liked to use ninjutsu to avoid having to face Rano in hand to hand combat but his ninjutsu skills would do more bad than good. Killing Rano and sending the bar up in flames would be an epic failure of the mission.

Squatting down he paused for a moment allowing his opposition to find down and begin a swing down at him. In a rhythm only he could note he shot himself upwards head first like a torpedo uppercutting the bigger man viciously with the top of his head ramming it Rano's chin and knocking him off his feet. Once the drunk was back up he was bleeding from the mouth and sporting a couple cracked teeth. All he could see was red and he had a murderous look in his eyes, but he couldn't find the little punk who had attacked him a second ago. Responding to a faint whistle he heard above he looked up to the ceiling where Sen was waiting for him with an unimpressed "Yo." Rano reached for a glass big enough to launch at the genin but in that moment he cut off the Chakra he was using to cling to the ceiling and he came down on the drunk with his hands locked together in a smashing motion.

The swipe came down hard and across Rano's temple rendering him dazed. Though Sen was smaller the was still a decent sized guy and his strength was enough for what he did next. The moment his feet touched the ground again he gave a hard hook into his opponent's abdomen causing him to bend over clutching the damaged area and the Iwa genin rushed at him with everything he had, effectively picking the bigger man up in a spearing motion, ramming him out the door and into the street. His body hit the ground hard and he was out cold but he was still alive, and the bar was in one piece, save for a couple broken tables and chairs. "This would have went a lot easier if you had just stepped outside when I asked Rano." Wiping a bit of sweat from his nose and forehead the genin turned back to Hyoka and then back to the bartender, unsure if these were the only two guys causing a fuss.

My gaze too penetrated the air around the bartender. He looked a bit amazed at the overwhelming events emanating his dreamt up creation. All he wanted was a quiet bar where him and his buddies could chill and laugh it out on those nights where everything seemed so tough, but no. There always had to be some jackass who crashes the party, those two happened to be Rano and his friend. I could see the slight gulp the bartender took before contorting with the iwagakure shinobi.

The words flowed from him in a very dramatic tone, one that I found myself disgusted at. I had no time to waste in hearing this mans sob story, this is exactly the type shit I didn’t want to happen. My eyes would cut to the genin who seemed to have bloodied the other grunt up. The amount of chakra I’d placed into my technique seemed to have paralyzed the man I was handling – I didn’t need to truly get my hands dirty on such a low ranking mission.

“No problem, sir. Me and my friend will keep a tighter look on this place from now on for you if you ever change your mind about that. .”

I’d say to give him a tad bit of hope. Truth was – I was sure that no one would be disturbing this place again, not if I had anything to say about it.

“You ready to go? Time for you to clean some gutters bro. .”

I’d say with a devious grin awaiting his retort before exiting.

Mission info: An elderly woman by the name of Gertrude needs help cleaning her gutters. She has promised a small reward for any of those who are willing to help.

The walk to the client's home was short enough from the bar but the awkward silences could have been less long. Though really, Sen wasn't too sure about how awkward the silence was. For him it was normal, he was used to working alone everyone of his peers was either his blatant superior or painfully inferior, it complicated things to work with someone who was stuck up because of their advanced abilities. It was just as bad to work with someone who was obsessed with becoming as strong as you your self was. If you didn't have a partner of equal strength a rift would form eventually since, eventually, as a shinobi your life and the mission could be in the hands of your partner. For that reason, Sen mostly worked alone and he had no doubts that this Hyoka was worlds beyond himself but there was still room to form a functioning partnership in spite of that.

Hyoka was in all likelyhood stronger but he lacked a certain snobbery most Chuunin Sen's age possessed. He wasn't sure of Hyoka's age but he looked young enough and the fact that he was trusted and believed in that much by Kusagakure to visit another village spoke volumes about his possible power. What Sen himself brought to the table was less in the form of power and more in the form of balance. He knew the village, he knew the people and he knew what it was like to be a foreigner, he could assist Hyoka better than anyone else in the village, better than any other genin anyway. He also took a wild guess that their ninjutsu were opposites meaning in a fight their could take on a wider range of opponents and be covered in more varying scenarios between his Youton, Katon and Doton and Hyoka's Raiton and whatever other releases he could use. Above all else though there was the fact that together the two of them could partake in B-rank missions though that was something he would have to probably have to get to know Hyoka better for.

Over the course of the day the two would have to get to know each other for both their benefits. Sen needed the experience of higher ranked missions and the Ryo wouldn't hurt either and the same thing most likely went for Hyoka. If they worked together well enough and got along well enough, and if the Chuunin stuck around long enough they could really do some good for Iwa and pocket some major Ryo from the whole thing. But he was getting ahead of himself, before they were allowed to stop criminals and escort diplomats both he and Hyoka would have to prove some things to the Tsuchikage. Hyoka would have to prove he could be trusted and Sen would have to prove that he could hold his own in more serious missions so as to not get the guest from the Snow Village killed by making a rookie mistake... and believe it or not, all that started here, helping an old woman clean her gutters.

With a sigh he did well to hide from the client he discreetly turned to the Chuunin with whom he still had not shared his name. He had a suggestion that he was sure would make this whole thing go by faster. "Maybe we should have a round of Janken to see who goes first..."

It was quiet in our stride to our next destination. This genin was particularly shy and didn’t quite share any sensitive details concerning his life. I found it quite odd he wasn’t outspoken because at his age I had known almost everyone in my own village – but perhaps that was the difference between a major nation and a minor. My attitude was apprehensive which caused my words to stop short of any thought because I was afraid to release any information that could hurt me in the future. I was the leader of one of the most famous criminal organizations in the world and so I made it my duty to keep as infamous as possible during my quest for a prehistoric war relic. This shinobi before me was just the person I needed to meet, he knew his way around.

It was going to take some time but I knew I would get him to speak eventually. .

“I don’t think I know that game very well, you’ll have to teach me sometime”

I’d say with a smile as my hand edged nearer to an elderly woman. Her name was supposedly Gertrude – and by her hairnet and bifocals her name surely fit the description. She was a typical gran-gran sort of woman who wore a purple dress with red flowers painted all around it. I was completely disgusted by the amount of leaves and bird shit bulging out of her gutters. My head would turn slowly to my comrade, showing him the uncomfortable feeling I had just gotten from the look of it.

“WELL HELLO. I SEE THE TSUCHIKAGE SENT ME HER BEST TWO AHUEHUEHUEHUE”

Ugh – damn.

“Uhh yep, she sure did. We’ll be getting to cleaning your gutters now mam – nice to meet you!”

I would reply to her just before turning to tug upon the iwa genin’s collar, dragging him into the side of the house where I had a moment with him.

“Alright lets hurry and get this shit done and get the FUCK out of here. This old lady is giving me the creeps!”

I wasn’t sure of what plan we would concoct to get the remaining gunk out of this womans gutters but I sure hoped that the genin wasn’t going to tackle it.

Cleaning gutters was capitol punishment. When Hyoka claimed not to know how to play Janken it set off an alarm in Sen's head. What kind of self-respecting man in their generation didn't know how to play Janken? It was official, Hyoka was a weirdo. As he climbed up to the roof he took a moment to reflect on how much his Ninjutsu meant to him and in that moment he realized it didn't mean much. It had such impractical uses after all. A wind style user could have gotten this stuff done in a flash, as would a water style user but the only thing lava would do in situation like this would be destroying the woman's home and in that situation it was likely she would just request for shinobi to come build her a new one and it would be just Sen's luck that he'd be the one to have to come back and do it.

The gutters themselves were atrocious. Either the old woman was senile and had forgotten to have them cleaned regularly or the guys that were here before them just lazy as shit. Chucks of hard mud, bird droppings and even the occasional leaf was grabbed by the handful and tossed down into a steadily growing pile of debris. Iwa didn't have many trees and didn't have much avian wildlife it made such that the presence of bird poo and old leaves were... "interesting" for lack of a better word. The real kicker though were the bones he found, probably from mice or something just as small, crawling around in the night and getting stuck in all the garbage, damn thing never stood a chance.

The old woman requested two nin to help clean her gutters but he suspected she wanted friends because she wouldn't stop talking. It got so bad that Sen had to wave off for Hyoka to go listen to her so he could do the grunt work in relative silence. He wasn't much of a people person and he had no intentions of faking it for someone he barely knew. As the gutters cleaned out he could easily tell that they hadn't been cleaned for months, possibly even years. The gutters were a solid and healthy white once the garbage and crud was cleaned from the inside but the edges were a rusty orange color, the markings of water running the over said edges because the said crud was too thick to allow it it's intended passageway.

The genin wiped the sweat from his eyes with the back of his right hand, careful not to dare touch his eyes after touching bird poop, rat corpses and dirt. In the back of his mind a thought formed on how he should get over his stupid depression and start taking better care of himself again. The thought only came because initially he was about to wipe his eyes using his shirt but the damn shirt was just as dirty as his hands. Of course, it was thought that was pushed back down into the recesses of his mind, he definitely wanted a shower but they still had a job to do here and now, and then he had three more jobs to do. With the old woman still yapping away though he figured the sooner they got out of here the better.

Solving a murder seems like it'll be the highlight of the day compared to this.

I wasn’t some old-lady hater or something but this one was itching me the wrong way. That fucker genin took the easy job of handling whatever it was in the gutters. I was stuck talking to this old bitch – making her giggle and shit at how easily my arms fit through the holes of my sleeves. AAAAAGGHHH, the fucking agony man. There was always someone in the village that had no family, so whenever people like me came around they could just talk their heads off. I thought women this age were supposed to be senile and mean, I would rather have had her be that way.

“SO WHAT DID YOU SAY YOUR NAMES WERE?”

I sort of twitched again when she asked me. My eyes, by this point, were already shot open to the types of questions this woman was asking me. I wanted to die, this was the worst mission I had ever taken.

“JON AND LEWIS, I’M LEWIS. YOU CAN CALL ME LUE THOUGH”

I’d say with a slight chuckle afterwards to assert the awkwardness in my tone. Every now and then I would peek up to the other genin who seemed to be enjoying the silence. He looked like he would still need some help in obscuring the leaves from these gutters. I had just the partner that he could use. With a simple thought my thumb would find itself within the center of two of my teeth. Clenching down upon the skin I would tear a piece off, releasing a bubble of blood onto the edge of my thumb.

With a second of time black lines would curl onto my hand and palm releasing a plume of smoke around my figure. Enten, a D ranked bird summon draped in orange and burgundy feathers, would fly out ahead of this smoke onto the roof where the genin was. Enten would caw out as he birthed his wing span into the open sky as if freed from a closed cage.

“HEY FUNIKUMI! WHATS UP BRO!?”

He would say in a loud, obnoxious tone. I would simply point to my genin counterpart.

“Do what that guy tells you to do. We need to finish these missions a little faster so you’re going to help us old man!”

I’d retort to Enten. His head would cock to the side in confusion as to who the boy was.

“OH! SURE! WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU STRANGER?”

The small phoenix would say in attempts to helping the genin. I would turn my attention back towards the old lady whom had gone inside – probably to fetch me something to drink. I was feeling a bit parched after all.

With all the handfulls of bullshit he had to scoop out of the gutters he'd all but drowned out the sounds coming from below. His desire to finish this mission and move on spurred him to move and clean faster. From what he remembered the rest of the mission of the day were at least more serious than this one was. A missing academy student running away from home, some missing art work and murder. How solving a murder and cleaning gutters both fell into the same difficulty and rank category was beyond him. Although the old woman's dirty ass gutters were a hell a job especially when you added in her capacity to talk someone to death. Maybe the boy that was murdered just wasn't deemed that important and that it and of itself was a sad thing to consider he second guessed the notion for only a moment but it was what it was because if the Kage or a Jounin was murdered the investigation mission sure as shit would have been higher than a D-rank.

He hoped Gertrude would understand his desire to get the hell away from her but in all honesty he didn't give a rat's ass if she didn't. He resisted the weak urge to laugh out loud as he came across an actual rat's ass lodged in the gutter. It looked like it had been ripped in half by some kind of bird.

“HA! A RAT BUTT! WHAT AN AMATEUR!”

The loud squawking of a voice that came from over his shoulder almost started him he instinctively reached from his kunai but the oddity of the sound of voice registered as non-human and thus non-ninja, although the latter assumption would turn out to be wrong.

“Phoenix don't eat rats, they're too small!”

"Who the hell are you?" If the damn bird could talk it surely had an identity and Sen wasn't so much in awe that he couldn't ask.

“Enten... call me Enten. I was summoned here to help you out.”

Enten took a couple of paces around the roof trying to find an area in which to help out, it was obvious the bird had never cleaned a gutter before but it was still actively looking for something to do. So he can use summons too? And it's really a phoenix at that. Who knew those things actually existed...It didn't take long for him to process the information at hand, he was impressed but this wasn't the time to show it. Not while he could still hear Gertrude yapping in the background.

"Actually... it's almost done so you can just relax." There was only a small corner to get the grime out of and it only took a few motions of his pooper-scooper/hand to clear the rest of it out. Down below was a pile of the debris that he'd been steadily tossing down this whole time. Leaping from the roof back down to the ground he casually began to toss the stuff into a bag that they would dispose of on the way to the next mission. Enten would give Hyoka the heads up that it was all done and just to avoid getting sucked into a conversation he offered a polite bow to the old woman and began to walk away with the garbage bag, eager to find a place to throw it away and wash his hands before they located the missing student.

Enten and the other shinobi had begun to work – or so I’d hoped. I knew the phoenix would give the boy a hard time if he didn’t have a sense of humor and I could only hope he wouldn’t drive out the boy’s duty to help me. The sound of metal ‘clinking’ would bring me back into the face of the elderly woman whom had brought us all some chilled ice tea. I simply pushed my hand out and shook my head from side to side.

“We’re good, but thank you ma’am..”

I’d say whilst looking atop the roof where the genin had given me a head nod. He would place the rest of the garbage/litter into a black trash-bag. I would take this moment into shuffling around my pockets fingering through the missions slips that I had ripped off of the billboard. I needed to figure out our next mission – this time it would be something a little different. We were actually going to have to find some kid who had run away from home – goodie.

At least it wasn’t going to be as boring as cleaning some womans’ gutter. I would calmly nod back to the iwa genin whilst whistling to alert Enten that we would be moving directions.

“WHERE TO NOW FUNIKUMI? !”

Enten would ask in a loud spout. I would simply smile and wave at the elderly woman who now looked as if she wanted to just die from being alone now that we were leaving. After coming to the side of the iwa shinobi I would sigh a breathe of relief in completion of this mission.

“I guess we’ll be using enten to help us on this next mission right? Seems as if there is a runaway – and we’ll need some eyes in the sky for extra surveillance..”

I would say whilst gesturing to my phoenix summon who flew just ahead of us. I was a bit pleased that this genin was good at navigating through the city, and he was definitely showing some promise to me that we could go on a higher ranked mission. He seemed quiet enough to be the analytical type – and that’s exactly the type of attitude we would both need in tackling on higher missions. It wasn’t over yet though, we had only completed two of the five missions that we had picked up.

“You ready for this kid?”

I’d ask to break the ice between our quiet strides.
