Two the Hard Way [Kei]

The times were bound to change. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, generations, centuries. As each one came and went on their own spinning clock of repetition the people that were in power of power at each pass would always be different. He wasn't sure who the most powerful rookie was in Iwagakure some seven years ago when he'd first become genin but today, he had a better idea of his answer. Barring any genin who was hiding and biding their time at the moment for what reason, of those he'd come to know in his time as a ninja of Iwa, himself and Kyousei Kei stood at the top. It was anyone's guess about who was the superior between the two of them. Joint missions told Sen that Kei was a Taijutsu user and Sen's own admission told Kei that he himself was Youton user. By all points in Sen's mind Kei was the one who better held the title of 'Strongest' between the two of them. The black-topped genin's reasoning for this was based in logic. If one couldn't properly distinguish who between the two of them was the strongest the victory would have to go to Kei because if his youth over Sen. If someone had power equivalent to someone three years their superior they were probably a prodigy of some sort. It didn't much matter to him either way, he knew his own strengths and weaknesses well enough and if Kei brought more power to the table than he did then that was fine, it would just make their duo that much more effective since he knew that he himself was no pushover to begin with.

Yet, still no matter who was the strongest they both stood here today, in the Tsuchikage's tower. A summons from Yoko came to his door and the genin was only half disappointed when it turned out not to be a love letter or some romance-based request for a meeting. He wasn't sure if he had a 'thing' for the green haired girl or not but he knew she was attractive, he knew she was nice and he knew he owed her a night at the Firefly House. Personal matters aside the summons had been from the Tsuchikage herself and now that both he and Kei were assembled Yoko would escort them into the Sandaime's office where the two of them would hear out whatever it was she wanted them for. "Yo... Sei." The elder teen greeted the younger teen calmly, even offering dap where dap was due. The two of them didn't know each other that well, but they had witnessed one another's strength and even finished a mission or two together. There weren't unfamiliar with one another at all by this point. Somewhere between Kyousei Kei, the nick name 'Sei' came along. With any luck though the two of them would climb the heights of the shinobi world and leave legends of their own in their wake. With any luck himself and 'Sei' would one day have new nicknames given to them at a moment of great importance in their lives.

His mind could be a trap of speculation and day dreaming so before he became too lost in thought the genin approached the massive wall containing mission specs for ninja to simply take down from the wall and then complete. The D's and C's were familiar enough but the 'B' wall was one he never looked at for a lack of needing to. With a grin he pulled down a piece of paper from the wall and returned to stand by Kei's side ready to see the bosslady.

Kei's usual morning routine was broken this day. A letter arrived at his door from one of the women he favored in the village. The letter looked like it was official. No smell of a woman's skin, nor hearts or any other ticks and tacks females usually send with their letters of the heart. This one, however, was of business. Kei reached his hands over his shoulder to scratch his back, as he held the letter at his face with his foot. He was rather flexible, granted his physical structure. The letter brought him to where he was today. He entered the office, eyeing the familiar Genin. A simple, "Yo." would be greeting for the two, followed by a fist bump. Sen was certainly active and no slouch. He had been taking missions none stop for some time now. Though he would never admit it to himself, he grew weary of Sen, and his power. No other Genin in the village held a light to him. Though he never seen his full blown combat in person, he was the user of a powerful element. He knew he would win a straight up fist fight. A bar brawl would be favor for him. However he felt somewhere that Sen held more surprises than his appearance. Such as the competitive feelings he gets whenever he's around.

Kei placed his hands in his pockets, and stood next to Sen after they greeted one another.

"Same letter, eh?" Kei lifted his, held between his index and middle finger, and swung it slightly at Sen. "Is something exciting gonna happen today?" he inquired, watching his comrade draw the paper. He wondered what adventures would be in store for them both.

Yoko ~ receptionist

"Why, hello gentlemen~"

The secretary cooed with what was probably considered to be too much enthusiasm. She wore her smile proudly today, along with Neptune colored hair which was pinned up for a more professional look. Two of Iwagakure's finest stood before Yoko today ~ so clearing her throat she'd break the silence and pass on the orders of the Sandaime. "Oh, this is a good one ! A Mr. Nakamura has invited each of the great shinobi villages to contribute two of their soldiers." She paused, flipping from one page to the next. "You'll be tasked with escorting both him and his explorers as they make a log of the world's grandest locations." Yoko-san peered up from her paper , if only to make sure the others were still following along. "That's where you two come in ! Lady Anemone has specifically selected you to represent the village, so you should be proud ! Also, any specifics concerning your assignment can be found inside the envelopes I passed on to you." That said, the receptionist approached the duo and wrapped them up in the best of group hugs. "Now I know that the Tsuchikage isn't the most intimate person around, but she's counting on you. So good luck ! Though I know you'll do fine." With a slight chuckle she released the pair and let them be on their way.

"By the way, I hear the pay for this one is really good~"

With a content grin the genin took the envople offered to him he was curious about the details of whatever it was Kei and himself were being chosen for. But, this was a moment of opportunity, the new Tsuchikage was asking something of him and the way the hands were being played it fit into the best interest of all parties involved if Sen asked for something as well. The Tsuchikage was not here to asked personally, but if Yoko was good enough to get word from the bosslady to the two of them she was good enough to get word from the two of them back to the bosslady. "I accept this this offer but if she wants us to handle something this big, I think it would be a smart investment to allow us to work as a duo on a more challenging mission or possibly two or three more challenging missions than the ones were are normally tasked with." The small paper in his hands contained the intel on the mission he wished to partake with Kei. The piece of paper found itself sliding across the desk of the emerald-haired fox by way of his relaxed index finger dragging said paper closer to her. As she picked up and read the paper the genin continued on using his baritone voice to smooth over any doubts Yoko might have had about allowing them to do what Sen was suggesting. "Kei and I... we don't know each other that well..." A true statement. "...and since this big mission is taking place outside the village that alone puts it above the parameters of most of the missions we're qualified to handle." Another true statement, although it was obviously one Sen made to build up his point. He and Kei together could easily topple missions beyond D and C ranks but still, they did not have the traditional means to qualify to take such missions regularly (that qualification being the Chuunin ranking). So, they had no experience beyond C and D rank missions, or at the very least Sen had none. "Please help us out and inform the Sandaime that we'll be taking on that B-rank to facilitate a working partnership and get our feet wet beyond C and D rank missions. I'd like for us both to be ready for this bigger mission when the time comes."

From the Kage's Tower the black haired man, still a teen from a technical standpoint, stood taller than ever before. There was a mission at on the way and in was a big one. It was more important than his day to day mishaps casually knocking out D-rank missions. It was more important than the days where he handled the slightly more serious tasks of C-rank missions. What Sen and Kei had both just been selected for was even more important than the B-rank mission ticket he held in his hand. The bosslady wasn't there herself to directly be asked to he just figured he would take the mission and do it anyway, confidant that upon completion they would both be compensated for their work. Worse case scenario, they complete the mission but receive no payment. Even in such a situation the experience gathered from working together on such a higher ranked mission would be more than enough to balance the fact that they wouldn't be receiving payment. Of course that was just the worst case scenario. He really really hoped they would still be getting paid.

The embrace was warm and as amazing as Kei had anticipated it being for the time he had Yoko on his mind. His cheeks turned a bright red from her harmless expression of emotion for the two Genin. Sure it was a hug shared with Sen, but it was a hug to him, none the less. His mind would drift to a world far from this one, inhabited only by himself and the lovely looking Yoko. His grin stayed on his face as she broke away and Sen begun his speech.

As for the exact moment when Kei snapped out of this trance of his would be unknown. What was certain was that he was excited about Sen's request of their kage. Sen too was bored with D and C ranked missions, despite not saying it directly. Kei's ability to pick up information wasn't at a league of Jounin or even Chuunin, but he was able to recognize a drive like his own. Kei simply nodded his head, folding his arms over his chest as Sen spoke. They needed more of a challenge and they certainly did need to know each other and each other's abilities were they to successfully take on such a task. Kei remember the teachings of his old academy teacher. Knowing one's enemy is not enough to win a battle. One must know themselves and furthermore, learn the people they keep in their company.

Kei lifted his right hand, standing at Sen's side as he slide the mission forward, unsure exactly of what the mission was, he would place his hand on Sen's shoulder, whom stood much taller than Kei himself, he had to raise his arm over his head a bit, but the message was clear. He patted Sen's arm as he grinned at Yoko with the usual confidence that boomed from him.

"We'll handle this just as we handle everything else. No mission is too much for me." A child like laughter erupted from his mouth, as he place his fist into his hips, keeping them there.

Yoko ~ receptionist

"Certainly ! I'll make sure to pass that info along~" Yoko glimpsed over at her two favorite Iwa nin, noting Kei's rosy face with a quirky look of her own. "Makes sense. I'm sure she won't mind you taking on a harder mission. You've proved yourselves worthy enough, after all." That much was true ~ how many times had she seen Sen & Kei in the lobby, only to take a few measly assignments? Their talents were being wasted in her opinion. "And if it means anything to you, I'll make sure to sit down and have a serious talk with Lady Anemone when she gets home. You two don't get enough recognition !" She pouted. Her expression read serious, yet to any onlookers she was way too adorable to be taken harshly. Regardless, the secretary would stand up for the boys, and with an envelope of her own in hand she began to fan Kei's flushed features. "Is it hot in here or something? Maybe you need some fresh air."

She was oblivious.

"Heh heh...," Kei's laughter turned into a subtle chuckle as Yoko referred to the redness of his face, which he was oblivious to...till now. "Yeah. Hot. Really hot. Hot, hot, hot." The words shot out of Kei's mouth like bullets. He scratched the back of his head before realizing Sen had already left. It would be a good exit. "Well gotta catch up to my buddy. See ya later, Yoko!" Waving, spinning, and jetting out of the building with lightning speeds, he disappeared.
