The image had been intensified by the sounds of rain surrounding them. The village wept, as did the skies. With the sounds of thunder on the horizons, and the crack of lightning having yet to creep into the village, it was clear that this village, and this land had become one. It had been a mere couple of days since the dreaded attack on Kumogakure. Three unnamed, masked ninja would come in the middle of the night, and disgrace the village in ways that would remain unspeakable by most. The memorial room was massive, and held the emotion of these people sparingly. Every few minutes another person would leave the room in tears- either out of memory of their loved ones, or the memory of their kage.

Incense burned beneath a picture of him. He was smiling- it had probably been taken by one of his friends, or maybe one of the academy kids. It was a nice image to remember him by. Rows of people would sit in silence as they reflected his memory, this vigil having gone on for almost half an hour by now. As the entire village was invited, the only ones not to show their faces would be those out on assignment, or still guarding the walls that once stood to protect the village. This was the second time that this village had lost its leader, and was left at an immediate loss. However, it had been known by many, if not all by now that it would be one of Eiichiro's best friends, Ishitsuru Heihachi that would be replacing him as Raikage.

He would sit in his own silence, his eyes dead with thought. Donning the typical all black that was assumed to be worn at a funeral, he would hold his pants legs with a death grip as he would look inside of himself to all of the images that he and his friend once shared. The laughs, the danger, the beauty and the horror... he would expect his fellow ninja to do the same.

Saru stood tall and slim beneath his umbrella as the rain made a cadence of percussion and rhythm. His happy go lucky self was no replaced with a somber and serious version of himself. This was a man who didn't deserve to die, but chose to fight and try to save what lives he could. It was unfortunate that the kage wasn't able to save his sister with his life, but he knew them both to be fine shinobi. There was nothing more either of them could do.

'This is a sad day' thought the female as she entered the graveyard. She was dressed in a simple black dress with long sleeves while her hair was pulled back into a knot. Her hand held onto a grey umbrella to shield her from the rain.
A small sniff could be heard as Yukiko tried to held back her tears. She knew that shinobis did not cry, but it was easier said than done at funerals like these.

I was present too, dressed in all black that fit quite well. My head stayed low and my eyes gloomy under the weight of a harsh reality we'd all come to face. Our beloved, Goldie, truly was in the clouds now. Outside of the fancy room I could hear the patter of rain over our heads - that, as well as he occasional outburst of thunder. While the proceedings took their course I opted to drink down my fourth cup of water. Still hung over, I almost regretted remembering Eiichiro in my own way. And yet, my period of crying had already passed. I could hardly keep up with what was going on but I found that my eyes kept darting up to the picture of Goldie and his smile.

Smiling, knowing he had nothing to be ashamed of.

Kai leaned back against the edge of the gate with his head down and hair drenched in rain. His gaze was cast into the muddy water at his feet as people came in went saying their goodbyes to the late Raikage.

Kai didn't know him quite well but he felt obligated to pay his respects. He had been there even while the entire thing was put together but he never said a word his mind continued to reel, how could they have found their way into the village so flawlessly.

He glanced up watching the headbands filter in quietly as anger stimulated his control and his burning red marks claimed the side of his neck.....

Somewhat rested, I didn't depart from my abode until hours after my body crashed. I had managed to lift the shell of myself off of the ground and once more pour into Kumogakure's shaken streets. The wreckage and aftermath scene of it all had already been ironed into my memory. So I was no more shocked at the crumbled appearance of the village than I was when I saw various signs gesturing towards the funeral of our dear Raikage.

The name of our leader was certainly going to be inscribed on the text of every historical book in Kumogakure. In a way though, Atlas was much more lucky than anyone else. He didn't have to worry about the village, attacks, or any other dastardly things the shinobi world carried. It was strange to say this, but I'm certain that he was at peace. And as I went forward to the very building he tarried in for so long, I made my way through the people to take a final look at his funeral picture.

That guy definitely wasn't Atlas. First Areru's disappearance and now I had no clue of what happened to Atlas. And certainly this mystery Raikage wasn't helping the situation. Still, I whispered a silent prayer for the departed.

All the dead, no matter who, deserved peace.

I was as dead to these people as Eiichiro.

And, for all intents and purposes, I intended to keep it that way. Racked with guilt and grief, I saw no reason to reveal myself. No reason for parting words, or understanding. I saw only despair, and the untimely loss of a great and noble comrade I was proud to call my student. I could only imagine all the responsibilites he had taken upon my abrupt disappearance. All the good he had done for the village, and for our people. And I was, truly and utterly, proud of him.

I stood and watched from afar, beside an old oak tree. My dark cloak dripping with rain, my black boots an inch deep in the mud, my wide-brimmed hood casting a thick shadow over the upper-half of the dragon mask I wore. My cardinal red mane was effectively concealed, tied into a ponytail down the length of my back. Clad in ebony-shaded attire and donning such a mask, I would appear as nothing more than another ANBU agent mourning the loss of his leader. Silent and statuesque.

It was a shame that, even after the devastating First World War, mankind had yet to learn from its mistakes. Wars were still running rampant. People still failed to understand that we were repeating the same catastrophes, over and over again. Each time expecting a different outcome. Good men died for bad causes. And bad men attacked any chances of peace and hope that some of us tried to nurture and grow. This world was becoming sour. And all I could hope was that Eiichiro's legacy would inspire others to change that. Inspire peace.

I spotted Yukiko in the crowd, and it broke my heart to see her so sad. My little sister, the girl that I'd been driven to protect since her days as a petite Genin, had grown up so much since we'd last seen each other. I struggled with the thought of walking up to her, and giving her a big hug, and telling her it was all going to be okay. That year and a half apart... Though my memory had been lost throughout a majority of that time, I had always felt that emptiness in my heart. And now I knew that it came from losing her, and many others I cared for. I had missed her so much. And would continue to do so.

For now, however, I'd remain at this vigil. Quiet, and still.

A spectre of a life once lived.
